2)      Flower shop AU

i)       You buy a weird amount of flowers and I’m concerned as to why

ii)      I’m allergic to flowers but I work in a flower shop – you’re a customer who’s very confused as to why I’d do that

iii)     (this is also a good way to incorporate flower meanings eg, buying certain colours/types for person to represent feelings etc.)

3)      Library AU

i)       You’re overdue on this book and I want it so I’m tracking u the fuck down

ii)      I work in the library and I’m a little concerned for your health bc you never stop studying

ii)      I thought you were my friend who’s just done something awful to me (read: cut my hair while I slept, dyed all of my clothes pink, etc. etc.) because you look similar from behind so I stormed up to you and shoved you from behind while calling you an asshole

iii)     You get the gist to this one

iv)     Oooh when you told me your name I thought you were joking because it’s fucking awful and I made a joke about it and things got awkward real fucking fast (perfect for a Hannibal au just saying)

iv)     I told my sister I have a boyfriend so she’d stop trying to set me up with people but now she’s coming to visit and I’m in too deep I need a fake boyf ASAP

8)      Soulmate aus

i)       The first words your true love(s) will say to you are tattooed on you and why the fuck are their first words something really ridiculous like ‘I’ll pay you a tenner to punch me in the face’ or ‘quick what’s your favourite animal’ or ‘fucking shit hell holy fuck wow oh my god jesus h Christ fuck me’ etc. or even worse a really ridiculous song lyric like  the opening lines of uptown funk or a high school musical song or smthing did you have to serenade me the first time you saw me asshole?

ii)      You get an ‘impression’ of your soulmate when you turn 18 or something but all I got was a strong smell of bananas or an overwhelming feeling that Thatcher was a good prime minister or an image in my mind of a fucking unicorn

iii)     The more ridiculous the better actually

iv)     Something like whenever your soulmate sings a duet you can’t help but join in and my fucking soulmate is in a goddamn band but I can’t sing for shit

v)      Or maybe something like soulmates always sneeze at the same time and I cant be sure but me and this kid in my French class just sneezed at the same time are we soulmates or was it a coincidence (proceed w character trying to make themselves sneeze around said person to see what’s what)

v)      Pacific rim au (either they’re drift compatible or one of them is a ranger and the other stresses constantly bc what if they die yes I have read a fic like this no I didn’t come up with this one but it’s fucking good) (also if you haven’t seen that film go watch it now)

vi)     Literally any movie or book universe you like tbh just go for it

10)   Other aus that I like

i)       I wanted to go on the ferris wheel but there has to be two people to a cart come on random person let’s go oh wait are we stuck at the top? Fuck

ii)      We work in the same office and you have a goddamn squeaky chair and you wONT FUCKING STOP SQUEAKING IT BECAUSE YOU KNOW IT ANNOYS ME

iii)     Our mutual friend set us up on a blind date and I thought I’d hate it but you’re actually… kind of funny? But because I expected to hate it in no way am I going to let you change my mind just because you’re gorgeous and funny and intelligent oh no my friend is not winning this

iv)     It started to snow and I’m the only one of our friends who would go outside with you – I soon found out why none of the others would go out in the snow with you (this works best if they’re new friends who don’t know each other all that well) when you shoved a handful of snow down my back and declared snow war

v)      It’s nowhere near Christmas it’s literally still November would you calm down about Christmas wait no why are you getting the tree out no stop please stop (if you do this pre-relationship you can have the grouchy one secretly finding the other’s excitement endearing and falling in love with them actually that works for established relationship too)

vi)     Current partner got a new job in America (or other country far away) and we’re getting by on skype calls and emails but it’s not easy and then I met someone new (can be poly or can be finding the OTP person)

vii)   You want us both to get in shape and I hate working out/running but your ass looks really good in shorts oh the things I do for my friends and their nice asses

viii)  Carrying on from 10.vii. you’ve caught me checking you out in what I thought was a subtle way too many times and now you’re calling me out on it what do I do???

ix)     You’re an actor/other famous person that I really admire and I just saw you in the street and as I was debating whether or not to say hi you came up to me and started flirting what do I do??

x)      You were waving at your friend behind me but I got confused and waved back at you and now I’m dying of embarrassment but you think it’s cute

xi)     I sat down in the wrong class and I’m panicking but don’t want to get up and leave because the class has started and you think it’s hilarious and shut up you dumb fuck you don’t know me aahhh

xii)   I’m a waiter at this wedding and you’re a drunk guest who will not stop hitting on me please I’m trying to work no I can’t dance with you omg let me find you some water

xiii)  Our best friends are that awful ‘cute’ couple that make-out in public and call each other “sweetie” and “sugar” and “babe” and god they’re awful let’s talk about how awful they are – develops into “shit we’re the awful couple now”

send me some to @theskyis-forever with a pairing for me to write :)

A Handful of Questions to Ask Yourself While Creating a Character

Compelling characters make compelling stories. Here’s a bunch of questions you can ask yourself while developing a character.

1) What does your character want from life? What is their motivation? What drives them? Most people want things - it could be as small as wanting a sandwich, or something huge like wanting to change the world. Does your character want something? Does your character dream? What about? And if they don’t, why don’t they?

2) Is your character shy? Outgoing? Insecure? Proud? Why are they the way they are? My favourite example of this question answered well is Ron Weasley from Harry Potter. He’s insecure because he doesn’t come from a wealthy family, has a bunch of older brothers who are all amazing in some form or way, his mother always wanted a daughter, Ginny, and so he doesn’t feel as wanted. Also, one of his best friends is the Chosen One, and the other is the brightest witch of her age - a cocktail that would make anyone doubt themselves.

3) What kind of clothes does your character wear? Why? The way you dress says a lot about who you are. For instance, If a character wears designer clothes and the latest fashions, it shows that they have the means to keep up with the trends. However if they wear a medley of things bought second-hand, or buy cheap stuff from supermarkets, they might not have the money to spare on outfits, or maybe they just don’t care about fashion.

4) How does your character speak?  Speech patterns have origins. An accent, language, a dialect, all signify geography, social class, personality. It could be as simple as cussing too much. But be sure you know why your character speaks the way they do. And if it’s not a speech pattern you’re familiar with, do your research!

5) Likes and dislikes I sometimes give characters specific likes (”I like tomatoes”) or specific dislikes (”I dislike eggs”), simply because it humanises them. You don’t have to do this, or be as specific as that, if it doesn’t serve your story. But it’s definitely something you can consider. Everyone has those little things they love and hate, and you can go places with them. (”I hate eggs because my childhood bully threw an egg at me and scarred me for life.”) Be creative and have fun with it.

6) Who does your character love? Romantic attraction isn’t necessary to create a wholesome character. Nevertheless, if they are in love with someone, be sure to understand why they love someone. Love is at its best, a complicated emotion difficult to break down, but a relationship has to be believable. As a reader, I need to be able to look at a couple and think, yeah, I can see what their love is built on.

7) What would their favourite songs be? This is not so much a question as it is a trick I use to get a better feel for who my character is. No matter what time period your story is set in, you can use this to understand your character better. Take your playlist and pick what songs they would enjoy. It says a lot about who they are. For instance, one of my characters would enjoy Western classical music and nothing else. Another character listens to the worst kind of pop and loves it.

8) How does your character react under stress? Can they cope with it? Do they get tense? Angry? Teary? Why? Why not? How a person deals with stress is a vital part of their personality. Decisions taken under stress can be the worst you’ve ever made, or (depending on how you handle stress), can be effective solutions to problems. The way a person reacts to stress often has a lot to do with their background and upbringing. Example (this is a generalisation, of course): someone who comes from a difficult family background may have more extreme reactions to stress than someone who is well-adjusted and comes from a happy family.

9) What does your character do when they’re alone? You’re often a different person alone than when you are with other people. The pretences and false faces come away, and all the little thoughts you usually ignore now have time to play in the open. Who is your character when they’re alone? What do they do? What do they think about? Why do they think about/do things in that way?

10) Where does your character fail? Characters must have flaws to be compelling. Nobody is perfect, and your character shouldn’t be either. Whether its insecurity or anger, or a lack of initiative, or smaller things like not being a good artist, or not being the best at sports–we all have personal failings and we all have things we aren’t good at. Consider: where does your character mess up?

I hope this helps! Remember to have fun. Developing characters can be the most exciting thing. Keep an open mind while working. Happy writing!

season 3 of skam was the most authentic, well-written piece of media i’ve seen probably ever. experiencing it in real time was like reading your favourite book, one you didn’t want to put down the first time you read; one you’ve re-read countless times and dog-eared, highlited, and scribbled in so much it’s almost intelligible.

season 3 taught me what it was like to see myself in someone else’s eyes through mainstream television. being gay is one of the hardest struggles i’ve ever faced, doubled with the burden of being trans. whilst season 3 doesn’t necessarily touch basis on the aforementioned, it sheds light on the lgbtq+ community as a whole, something we can all take from, straight or queer.

being pansexual and seeing straight cis boys discussing my sexuality like it’s not some made up, tumblr bullshit thing is so rewarding. hearing about bipolar disorder and how ugly it can be, how love doesn’t save you but the promise of a future certainly will is so rewarding. how depression isn’t fun or pretty and often leaves a sour taste in your mouth, something your lover will never rescue you from is so rewarding. seeing that, so raw and tender laid out in front of me, is something i’ll never forget, near into the future. mania is scary. mania is awful and ugly and pulses through your veins and bruises your skin. mania is manageable, though, and i never thought i’d see such split open love for queer, mentally ill people.

season 3 of skam was a ride. one that made my stomach sink and my heart twist and bend. one i didn’t want to get off of. the acting was the most phenomenal display of tangible emotion, and i quickly got addicted and sucked into it.

isak valtersen is one of the most developed characters i’ve had the pleasure of seeing. he’s flawed and ripped at the edges, but he’s also kind and caring and loyal. watching him go from a snotty, slightly misogynistic 15 year old boy blinded by love for his best friend to an out 17 year old living with his boyfriend and tackling the future for himself, his partner, and his friends was a wonderful experience.

gullruten or not, tarjei sandvik moe and his character isak valtersen are everything in my eyes.

anonymous asked:

I just read proposal yesterday and thought it was so sweet! I was wondering if you have any fics you could recommend? Jimin is my bias but I'm pretty open to any members with the reader. Thanks and keep up the good work! Kep jarng! 😁

Aghh thank you so much, sweetheart! I’m so glad you enjoyed Proposals and I’m really flattered that you’re asking me for recommendations! :D Okay, here’s a list of my fave fics that you should check out if you haven’t already. So you aren’t confused, the stuff in italics is the synopsis/description the writer provided and the indented bit is me being incoherent and lame as always.

Sin City (Jimin x reader) by @btssmutgaloreAfter a run of bad luck, you can go back home and admit defeat or step out of your comfort zone and look for a job at Sin City.

Hands down the best stripper au I’ve ever read. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this fic because you never know where stripper AUs are going to go, but holy moly am I glad I gave this a chance. You will be addicted to this fic. Jimin’s character has so much depth, but he’s such an enigma at the same time and I’m dying to know what the heck he’s thinking/what his background is. The tension is so drawn out and the sessy scenes are all so different, which is really refreshing to read and you don’t know what’s going to come next. ALSO, I feel like there’s a lot of empowerment and respect in this fic, which makes me so happy. Love love love this fic with my entire being.

Monster (Jeongguk x reader) by @btssmutgalore: You sleep with an obnoxious fratboy who used to be your friend.

This fic is perfection. It doesn’t have a complicated plot, but it’s still so interesting to read and the smut is A++++. Jeongguk’s character has so many facets and though he has a lot of issues to sort through, I’m rooting for him and the OC so much.

Purple Jewels (Jimin/Jeongguk x reader) by @jiminniemouse: When you fall in love with Jungkook and he isn’t there to catch you, a sudden surprise shows up to give you a little bit of help.

GENIE!JIMIN. AKLSDJFKLAASKDJFLK (I really tried not to keyboard smash but fuck I lose my shit because of how much I love this fic). Oh man, where do I even begin with this?? It’s my absolute favourite Jimin x reader fic and one of my absolute fave fics in general because it’s written so well, it’s creative, the characters are interesting, AND THE TENSIONNNN. I come so close to combusting with each part and I’m dying for more. Also Jimin’s character is so sweet and I love him so much (where can I find myself a genie Jimin???). Please please please read this!

Hiraeth (Jeongguk/Taehyung x reader) by @jungkxookA world full of dwindling hope and lost loves and yet you and Jungkook are all the other needs to feel at home.

This is the first member x reader fic I ever read and IT IS THE BEST THING EVER. EVER. It’s a zombie apocalypse au and it’s so angsty and sometimes it feels like my heart has been punched out of my chest and it’s such a wonderful feeling even though it hurts like hell. The world is constructed so believably and there are so many well thought out details to it, so when you’re reading it feels REAL. All the characters are different and you never know what’s going to happen next. I can’t recommend reading this enough, it is freaking incredible (and the love triangle is fucking me up so bad).

Philophobia (Jimin/Jeongguk x reader) by @minsvgasex has its consequences, always; whether for better or for worse, sex always has its consequences. and the drunken rendezvous you have with your best friend is not an exception.

This is discontinued but it’s still worth reading because it’s so freaking hot and I love the plot and just??? I don’t usually read fuckboy fics because fuckboys are the bane of human existence, but this fic is amazing and the smut is awesome. Also be prepared to not know who you’re rooting for. One second I would want Jimin to win the OC’s heart and the next I wanted Jeongguk to end up with her, so brace yourself for conflicting feelings.

Company (Namjoon x reader) by @fireheart-namjoon: Sometimes all you want is a bit of company.

OKAY before I scream about the sessy stuff in this fic, I really want to say that I fucking loved Namjoon’s characterization in this and it’s so nice to read an OC who is strong and independent. The writing style is absolutely fantastic and the thigh riding was 100000/10.

Retrograde (Jeongguk x reader) by @remembeofantasy!au

When I read this I feel the way I do on rainy, dark days when I’m reading a book and just slip away into the world on the page. The details and the way this is written are so mesmerizing and I want to know more. You’re so swept away by everything that you completely forget about the reality for a little while.

A Roadtrip (Jeongguk x reader) by @taeinmycupJungkook makes your planned roadtrip to Busan a bit messy.

Road trip fics never get old and neither does the childhood-friends-to-lovers plot either. This was a wonderful fic to indulge in and um the frick frack is pretty damn nice. Just saying.

Sutures and Stitches (Jeongguk x reader) by @hayjeon: hitman!jeongguk and medstudent!Y/N bestfriends!au; Jeongguk always shows up to your place or hospital whenever he gets hurt because you guys are best friends and you patch him up, but he has no idea that every time you stitch up his wounds, it tears open new wounds in your own heart.

I recently read this and I am OBSESSED. I refresh the OP’s page daily just to make sure I didn’t miss an update. The writing is so detailed and Jeongguk’s character is so interesting, I just want to know what the heck happens next + how Jeongguk ended up with this kind of life.

Chrysalism (Jimin x reader) by @workofteaguk: Bookstores have always lured you in with the promise of the quiet, the serene, and, most recently, him.

THIS IS THE SWEETEST FREAKING THING AND I WISH IT WERE LONGER. It made my entire day when I read it and I was smiling the entire time. Where do I have to go to find a cute boy like this???

It’s All Fun & Games (Jeongguk x reader) by @workofteagukIn which you and Jungkook attempt to fake a relationship for revenge and end up with a lot more than either of you expected.

When will fake relationship AUs not be the best thing in existence? The answer to that is never. I don’t care how many times people write this concept, it will always be so fun to read because of the angsty feels. So if you’re as trash for this as I am, then absolutely read this.

Sounds of You (Jimin/Jeongguk x reader) by @vivacioustae: As a young girl you dreamt of hearing the bells, the ones that signaled you had found your soulmate, the missing piece everyone was so desperate to find. After falling in love with Jimin you abandoned the search, hoping you would come to never hear the bells, preferring to continue your life with him uninterrupted. You’d soon come to learn the harshness of fate, and that it doesn’t care about your hopes, feelings, or you.

Listen, from the very first sentence of this fic, I was completely hooked. From the get go you know that it’s going to mess with your emotions, but it’s worth it. I love this concept so much and my heart is aching reading this. After reading the first part, this fic is all I could think about and my heart ached because I wanted to know what was coming next, but also wasn’t prepared for it. Love love love this.

Teamwork (Taehyung x Seokjin x reader) by @sugajpgPeculiar events occur when the two best volleyball players of your college decide to take competitiveness out of the courts.

Best threesome fic I’ve read so far. I’m just. :’’’’’)) I’m still screaming. Fml this is too good and I feel the flames of hell licking my feet but screw it. Where do I sign up for this?

Like Crazy (Jimin x reader) by @war-of-hormoan: This story is based off the film by the same name.

Because I don’t care about my well-being in any way, I started this fic and I love it so much so far. The film Like Crazy is incredible, but it feels like you’ve been punched in the gut twenty times by the end, and it made me sob… like crazy. So this fic will probably end up doing that too and as nervous as I am for that, it’s so worth it. Everything is written so vividly and the relationship between Jimin and the OC is so sweet to read. I’m really excited to see how this progresses.

Grey Area (Yoongi x reader) by @blushoseoksAnd just like that, your fate was sealed - because Min Yoongi was absolutely going to destroy you. But hell, if you weren’t going to let him, or bask happily in the flames as he did so. And sadly, at the time, you didn’t think that your thoughts would become so literal.

THIS IS SO WELL WRITTEN. SO. WELL. WRITTEN. Ohmygod, I’m in love with this writing style and THE CONCEPT IS AMAZING. The ending of part one left me feeling like I’d been kicked in the gut or something and you’re all ???? wtf is going on??? and you’re completely hooked so you binge read the rest. This fic is perfection.

Until Next Time (Jimin x reader) by @taeverieWho would have guessed that a stranger you met through an online game would quickly escalate into a cyber fuck buddy?

OK OK OK UM LET ME GATHER MY THOUGHTS HERE. First off, how can I be the OC?? Second off, HOW CAN I BE THE OC???? I wouldn’t have the balls to actually be this forward in real life but still, this just kept escalating and they didn’t even really do the hanky panky but it was still hot as fuck and 10/10 would recommend.

Not So Honest (Jeongguk x reader) by @wonhopesJungkook has got a pretty big problem, and he desperately asks you for your help.

Hi hello yes be prepared to explode ok this was TOO good oml. I’m also a slut for sub!jeongguk because that sinful man deserves to be tortured the way he tortures us so this was a glorious find (though the roles do reverse in the end but whatever THIS WAS GREAT).

Obey (Jimin x reader) by @sugasgrowl

sub!jimin. Must I say more? I spontaneously combusted like ten times while reading this and would gladly undergo that again because it’s so nice to read fics where the roles reversed and I would give up a limb to see Jimin in such a debauched state.

All To Myself (Jimin/Yoongi x reader) by @mint-tape: “It’s hard to be a vlogger when half your subscribers care more about your hot friends than you.”
- Y/N, from her April 23, 2016 vlog titled ‘Jimin shows his stupid abs 8 times (not clickbait)’

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST CREATIVE FICS I HAVE EVER READ IN MY LIFE. All the ‘videos’ and the ‘comments’ and just everything about this is absolute perfection. The characters are all diverse and the OC is really likeable. Just. I’m glad I found this fic, it’s so unique and all these extra goodies make the read even more fun.

The Blue Notebooks (Jimin x reader) by @inktae: time travel au

Honestly, I don’t even know what to write about this because I’m still speechless. No words can capture how beautiful the writing is (all her work is beautiful) and how well emotion is captured in this. Everything is so thought out and all these little details come together to form the bigger picture. Do yourself a favour and read this as well as all the rest of the OP’s writing. She is so freaking talented and we are all blessed to be able to read her work.

…Sorry, that got ridiculously long. @_@ For member x reader fics I tend to read Jimin/Jeongguk focused stuff, if it’s not incredibly obvious… Oops. Am I Jimin biased or jiguk biased? Anyway. I hope this list helped and I’m sorry it took so long for me to respond, I just wanted to get through some of the fics I had saved in case I wanted to recommend them. Enjoy!

Broke My Dream

Characters: Sam x Reader

Word count: 4442 - sorry not sorry blame @a-sea-of-fandoms

Warnings: fluffy fluff, smutty smut, a bit of angst if you squint

A/N: Anon Requested: “Can you write one about Sam x reader. Reader is shy quiet bookworm who is in love with Sam. She knows he would never feel the same way. So she fantasizes about him seducing her. Then it really happens. Thank you” Hope this is OK!

You couldn’t focus on the book in front of you. The bunker was quiet enough, the light warm enough, your legs comfortably resting over the arm of the armchair you were laid in, but you just couldn’t stop thinking about him. It was an uncharacteristically quiet day, and it was supposed to be the day you finished this book you’d been trying to finish for weeks. But every time the main character was mentioned, your mind wandered and you thought back to the tall, long haired, broad shouldered man you knew in real life. You weren’t even halfway through this thing, but you wouldn’t give up on it. You’d never given up halfway through a book and you didn’t plan on starting now.

Clearing your throat, you tried to refocus.

You felt your eyes growing heavy and before you knew it you were drifting off to sleep, your head resting on the other arm of the chair, the book still open and perched against your thighs. You felt yourself smile as you saw Sam move towards you, his hand coming up to hold your face before he crashed his lips to yours. You were suddenly against a wall, his hands on your waist holding you in place as he deepened the kiss. You gripped the fabric of his shirt as he let his hands wander down, his lips moving to suck a mark under your ear.

A moan rumbled past your lips as you felt his fingers slip under the top of your jeans and you suddenly started awake.

You jumped up, sitting up in the chair, realising you’d fallen asleep and were having one of your not-so-infrequent fantasies about the younger Winchester. It had been a long couple of weeks and sleep had been severely lacking for all of you as you worked the case.

“Dude you were out,” you heard Dean’s voice and laughed. “And making some serious happy noises,” he winked, and you instantly cringed, your cheeks flushing pink.

You're my best friend

I just got my hair cut and I’m feeling overly emotional, and I don’t know how these two things relate, but here have some sterek.

They have been together for a while now. They just got their first apartment together, and saying that both of them were high on love (for each other) and hope (for a new happy life) would be quite the understatement.

There had been a time when either of them had thought that they could never have the other, that after Derek left they would never find each other again, and they had never even thought possible that one day they could have a place, a home together. And yet, here they were.

They just finished mounting their new bed, and Stiles falls on the bare mattress with a satisfied “oof” Derek following shortly after him.

And it’s then that somehow it hits Stiles. It hits him so hard and so suddenly that he’s so overwhelmed with it that his eyes burn and he wants to yell it at the top of his lungs, but at the same time the emotion is so strong that clogs up his throat, and he can barely manage to speak.

So, he just makes a small noise (all he can muster right now) and rolls over to Derek’s side, throwing one arm over Derek’s body and burying his face into Derek’s neck.

Derek huffs out a surprised laugh, but promptly starts rubbing his back soothingly.

“Derek,” Stiles mumbles, when he finds his voice again.

Derek hums questioningly and Stiles hugs him close, a little bit tighter, before he gets out of his hiding spot and looks up at his boyfriend.

“You’re my best friend.” He says, all intense, earnest and sincere eyes.

Because it’s true. Yes, Scott is the friend he knew longer, they had their high and lows and highs again, and he’s like a brother, but that’s just it, Scott is his brother.

Derek is his best friend.

Derek is the person that he thinks about first when he’s thought of a stupid joke and wants to share it with someone. Derek is the one he looks for when he wants to tell someone about what his favourite character is going through, even if it’s a show or a book that Derek hasn’t watched yet. Derek is the name on his lips when he wants to tell or show someone how he managed to do something, even if it’s just as ordinary and banal as Stiles managing to doodle a real-looking wolf shadow, he knows that even if his first reaction would be to roll his eyes, he’d do so smiling in that warm way that always tell Stiles so many things. Like how loved he is, and how Derek is proud of him, even for the little things. And Derek is the one that he glances up to look at before he even knows why.

And that’s why he hates fighting with him so much, because he’s fighting with his boyfriend and best friend. And really, there’s no one in his life that can match with everything that Derek means to him. Derek is his special person, everyone has their special person, don’t they?

And Derek is Stiles’ person.

And yes, Derek is his boyfriend, and they had already said their ‘I love you’s to each other a long time ago, but Derek is also, and maybe most importantly, Stiles’ best friend too, and Stiles really needs him to know that.

“You’re my best friend,” he repeats, because he needs him to understand.

And of course, because Derek is his everything plus his best friend, smiles small and understanding, before he leans down to kiss him on the corner of his mouth, feather-light and all softness, and whispers “you’re my best friend, too.”

And Stiles knows that Derek understands, because he can see in his eyes that Stiles is his person too.

*Sectumsempra*

Lily: No! Harry!

James: *panicking* I know that spell from somewhere, Blondie needs help immediately. Merlin’s pants Myrtle he’s not dead STOP shouting!

Lily: He’s about to be, it can’t be.. no. That bloody book, that is a very dark spell Jamie

Sirius: Trust me knows, he was hit by it.

Lily: WHAT?!

James: *through his teeth* Padfoot!

Sirius: We are all dead Prongs, it doesn’t matter if she knows or not really.

James: You son of a–

Sirius: Bitch. I know, I lived with her for sixteen years.

Lily: Who?

James: Doesn’t matter.

Lily: *fuming* I. said. WHO

James: *giving up* Snivellus. Dumbledore healed me pretty fast, I didn’t have many scars so I decided to keep it to myself than to hurt you.

Sirius: Speak of the devil

*Snape heals Draco and comes back to order Harry to bring his school bag*

Lily: He’s gonna have to give that stupid book to him eventually

Sirius: *smirking* Not necessarily

Lily: Sirius, I will drag you to hell myself and hand you over to Walburga if you don’t shut it.

James: He’s going to the Room of Requirements to hide his book, I can’t believe we didn’t include that in the Map.

Lily: Jamie, this is so not the time love.

James: Alright alright, got it.

*Snape checks Harry’s copy of Advanced Potion Making”

Sirius: Seriously Harry? Roonil Wazlib and the best you can come up with is “That’s my nickname”?

Lily: He’s in so much trouble, he’s done for–

James: Lily calm down a little.

Lily: He almost killed that boy!

Sirius: Well he’s up to something for Voldemort, didn’t you see his arm?

Lily: Doesn’t mean he has to die! Don’t you ever think of Regulus and how he was forced into all of this?

James: LILY!

Sirius: Don’t you dare talk about him again Evans.

Lily: I– I’m sorry.

*“Well, we shall see how you feel after your detentions,” said Snape. “Ten o’clock Saturday morning, Potter. My office.” “But sir…” said Harry, looking up desperately. “Quidditch… the last match of the…” “Ten o’clock,” whispered Snape, with a smile that showed his yellow teeth. “Poor Gryffindor, fourth place this year, I fear”*

James: That fucking wanker, he did that on purpose. He’s gonna miss the final game. I miss the days with Charlie Weasley, he was one hell of a captain *both Sirius and Lily don’t talk* I will never understand why he went for dragons instead of eternal glory on the field.

*Day of the match and Harry’s detention*

Sirius: Snivellus didn’t just give him our detentions to go through.

James: Yes, yes he did.

Sirius: Merlin I hate him more than I did 20 years ago, I never thought that was possible.

Lily: *shyly* He does that to make sure he reads your name, Sirius. Harry is used to his comments about James but your absence is new to him. He’s just being his cruel self.

Sirius: Well fuck him, Jamie how is the game going?

James: Not bad, not bad at all. Redhead is actually pretty good.

*Hour and a half later*

James: *cheering* THEY WON!

Lily: *surprised* Really?

James: Redhead caught the snitch! I can’t believe this, they won!

*half an hour later*

Sirius: Harry’s off of detention and he’s going to the common room now.

James: Well, a pleasant surprise will be waiting for him.

Lily: Ah look at them, there’s Ginny oh.. OH! Well that’s a way to celebrate

Sirius: YES! LOOK AT THE LITTLE FAWN

James: *dancing* SHE’S A REDHEAD MY DREAMS ARE COMING TRUE

Sirius: *grinning* Resemblance is uncanny.

Lily: Harry, love maybe that’s enough, Ron is watching.

James: And she loves Quidditch

Lily: Molly’s gonna be happy

Sirius: Happy is a very underrated word but wait til the twins find out.

James: And have you seen one of her Bat-Bogey hexes? That girl is awesome.

Sirius: If you are done swooning over your future bride Prongs..

Lily: He secretly wanted them to be together since he rescued Ginny from the Chamber of Secrets, leave him be. It took Harry sometime to take his head out of his ass to see Ginny.

Sirius: *smirking* Evans! That’s your son you are talking about and that reminds me of someone.

Lily: *smiling* Oh shut it Black.

James: Nice one Pads, he’s right you know. Everyone knew you were swooning over me for a good six months before you finally accepted you liked me.

Lily: Except for you, Jamie.

James: Whatever. It’s like us but involving a lot less hexes.

Sirius: He’s like a teenager girl whose two favourite characters finally got together.

James: Fuck off Pads.

Lily: He was like that when you and Remus got together, too.

James: So what? Can’t I be happy for people I love?

Sirius: Sure you can but maybe be a little less enthusiastic?

James: *raising an eyebrow* You are one to talk

Sirius: Okay, got it. I’m out.

Lily: What just happened?

James: Nothing important. Ah! Look at them walking around in the castle talking, if her hair was a bit darker they would look exactly like us.

Lily: *putting his head on James’ shoulder* You are relentless.

James: Tell me you don’t like this.

Lily: I love it.

James: Exactly my point.

Imagine

Person A is a heavy reader. Person B isn’t. Person A usually reads the stories to Person B when they need to calm down, from what it is, Person A never asks. Person B often falls asleep to the stories from Person A’s mouth, and can never stay up long enough to finish the stories, so all they know is the (mostly) happy beginnings, and never the ends.

Person A gives Person B their favourite book, one that’s been with them for a long time. The book has obvious signs of the love and importance it had on Person A’s life, but they know that it’s Person B’s favourite story.

You see, Person B might not notice, but Person A always keep a check of how long it takes for Person B to fall asleep when they’re reading a book. Sometimes it’s within the 3rd chapter, other times it’s on the 23rd. But when Person A reads this book to Person B, they notice how Person B struggles to stay awake, and is always concentrating so hard on not giving in to the slumber. Person A once asked Person B if they wanted to start from the middle of the book this time (because god forbid they say, ‘Where we left off’ because that means they’ll know when they fell asleep and that’s a conversation for a later (or never) time) but Person B always politely declines and says with the sweetest voices, “No, I want to hear your voice as much as possible.”

Person B shakily accepts the gift, and promises to give it back, but Person A declines and says, “No, you can have it. It’s yours. I know how much you love it, almost as much as I do. So here, read it, you fall asleep before the ending anyway.” And laughs it off, albeit awkwardly.

A few days pass since the gift giving, and Person B has had minimal contact with Person A. Then one day, as Person A was in the quiet corner of the library, back hunched over a book and nail biting in progress, Person B comes in and sits in front of Person A.

//“The ending haD ME SHOOK AF BRUH OAGJBAWLJRBGLKJBLEWRKJGB”//

“I understand why this book is your favourite, and I don’t want to copy you but it’s now my favourite too.” Person B says quietly as they watch Person A’s eyes scan 20 words a second. Person A nods slightly. “So I have a gift for you too.”

Person A looks up from the book and stares at a copy of the same book, looking newer and less worn, but still holding the words that made them laugh, cry, and die in a matter of 2 pages. Person B smiles, and says, “It’s my copy, I bought it the day before you gave me yours. I only read the first part, because it’s all I knew in your voice. So I could never bring myself to read the rest.” Person B laughs awkwardly.

“I mean, I don’t usually read books. But when you read them I suddenly picture myself there, in those pages, except it doesn’t feel like just pages, it feels real. My voice can’t do that, but yours can. So… When you gave me the book you had read to me over and over again, suddenly I could picture you, holding the book exactly the same way you are now, eyes scanning over the words so quickly that your voice fails to catch up, and the small hint of a smile in your voice and the sparkle in your eyes, and, believe me, I didn’t understand why people fell in love with reading but I think I’m in love with your reading. Whether it’s silent scanning of words, or quiet whispers of every second word, or when you voice the characters’ dialogue yourself to get the emotion right in your head because you haven’t heard the words said like that before, or when your reading it to me, I’m in love with you and your reading.”

Person B is blushing furiously and Person A is //dyING AF BECAUSE ERMAGHWRHGDHGAHGRHGA// still waiting, listening, knowing that this isn’t the end of what Person B wants to say.

“You’re the person people in books fall in love with,” Person B says with a quiet voice.

(Note from author: Hi, this is me coming back after ‘leaving’ this account. I actually never left and I knew a lot of people started following me AFTER i said I wouldn’t be back, so thank you! Also the words in between the // are just my mind going weird and wanting to add in something really stupid haha, love ya’ll.)

Podcast Recs [2/5]

Part 2 of my horror/fantasy podcast recs is finally here! (Sorry it’s taking so long @thefestiveoctopusnods!) This is the start of all the fiction I listen to and they’re in no particular order. Part 3 should be up soonish..

Passage
Ok. So this is a new podcast (only 1 episode out right now!) And it follows the time honoured tradition of “journalist explores spooky goings on and gets in over their head”. This is based around Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest and is based on GHOST SHIPS! A lifeboat washes up with a bunch of skeletons and an antique pistol and sets the internet on fire when it’s revealed to be a lifeboat from a ship that disappeared 150 years ago. A journalist travels to Puget Sound to find why and how this happened. The first episode is 15 minutes but that may increase as the series goes on.

Spines
Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to wake up covered in blood in an attic with no memories of what you were doing or why there’s arcane symbols painted everywhere? If so this is the podcast for you. It follows Wren as she tries to figure out what was going on and why the other people in the attic seem to have really creepy powers. There is quite a bit of body horror in this one just as a warning. Wren is trying to find her “boyfriend” and figure out what he did to them all and why all her “friends” seem to want to kill her now for what he did. Also the main character is bisexual so that’s a giant plus in my book. Each episode is about 20 minutes long so if body horror, secret societies, and creepy superpowers interest you then give this one a try.

Darkest Night
One of my favourite new podcasts! It’s narrated by Lee Pace and is another body horror podcast! This one has super secret creepy private company doing human experiments. These experiments boil down to poor lab tech gets a severed head in a box and sucks out the eyeball jelly to put in a machine that plays the last things the eye saw before it died. Each episode is a separate story but with an overarching story about the lab tech doing a casual bit of corporate espionage. Episodes are between 20-30 minutes long and have some of THE BEST 3D audio I’ve heard outside of ASMR videos so you definitely need to use headphones with this one.

The Magnus Archive
The Magnus Institute is collecting first hand accounts of the strange and unusual things that happen to normal people for their archives. It’s based around a new archivist who is replacing the last one and going through all the archives and digitising them (as much as possible). Each episode is mostly a stand alone horror story but there are a couple of overarching mysteries that link the podcast together - the three main ones are what happened to the previous archivist and where she went, a private collector’s library of books that come alive as they’re read, and the creepy worm lady. Episodes are about 25 minutes long and it’s just started it’s second season.

Mabel
This one is told in a series of voicemails. The narrator, Anna, is a live-in carer for a old lady and she’s leaving messages to the lady’s granddaughter. That’s the basic premise at least. The granddaughter is the mysterious Mabel who is off doing something. Most likely avoiding the creepy house. Each episode is about 20 minutes long. It starts off with a haunted house vibe but quickly descends into something else entirely that makes you wonder if Anna is psychotic, or if the house is influencing her in some way. If Haunting of Hill House is your jam then this is definitely one to check out. I really wish I could explain more about it but you kinda need to experience it to get the full effect. But trust me, it will keep you guessing like all great haunted house stories do.

The Bridge
Ok. Ok ok ok. So. Imagine they built a giant transcontinental bridge across the ocean so you don’t have to fly. Now imagine they build hotels and water parks and sightseeing spots along this bridge and kept safe by the Watchtowers. Now imagine that everything goes horribly horribly wrong. That is the situation the guardians of Watchtower 10 find themselves in. It’s 2016 and the ocean has revealed that it’s still not ready to be tamed. Join the gang in these 25 minute episodes as they broadcast to an empty road, fight off weird cults, and struggle to keep their secrets secret. Oh yeah, and no one release the sea monster in the basement please and thank you.

Tales of THATTOWN
Welcome to THATTOWN. Found in the deep south (Alabama) THATTOWN is filled with the normal things you’d find in any small town like bands of marauding zombies that like to whisper your deepest secrets to you, casual demon possessions, auto cults, and town mages. Not going to lie - I love this podcast and would urge everyone to check it out. Plus the creators are so nice and will put up trigger warnings for you and are writing up transcripts for free because they want everyone to be able to access it. Episode lengths vary and you need to listen to the first couple of episodes together because the first one is done in such a different style to what the show actually settled with.

The Lift
If you ever find yourself in a creepy building that no one else can see, staffed by a dead girl called Victoria who knows just that little too much about you then congratulations - you have a decision to make. Each episode is based around a new person who somehow stumbles into this liminal place. Victoria will take you to the floor that will best help you work out your issues and try and help you. If you deserve it. Of course, it’s up to you if you want to take the help. Each episode is about 30 minutes long and season 2 just started where we’re learning a lot more about Victoria’s backstory and how she ended up trapped as a guardian to that place,

Help Me
This is a short, completed podcast about one girl’s journey to find out why her best friend committed suicide. Turns out the answer is - because she didn’t. The podcast quickly takes a turn from trying to find acceptance in death to fighting for your life from the thing that stalks you and wants to steal your soul. There’s a lot more out there than people know and, if you’re unlucky, you can accidentally draw their attention. Fans of slenderman or creepypasta this 15 part miniseries is one you definitely need to listen to. And I really hope the creator decides to put something new out soon!

My family is going to be moving houses at the end of June, and since I’ve started packing away my books, I thought I might as well share some of my books with y’all and give some book recs while I’m at it!

First up is the LGBTQ+ books I own. Unfortunately, I don’t have very many given it’s kinda difficult to find ones with plots that I like. (I contemplated whether or not to include the wtnv novel in this one, but seeing as it’s not centered around Cecil and Carlos, I decided to leave it out for now).

But anyways, here they are:

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz - A coming-of-age story about two young Mexican boys, Aristotle “Ari” Mendoza and Dante Quintana, who are as different as can be, but who somehow manage to forge an unbreakable connection that spans from childhood to adolescence, and beyond. Ari is angry and confused and from a broken family. Dante is gentle, and emotional, and is “crazy about his parents”. Dante knows he’s gay. And Ari has no idea what to make of his relationship with his best friend.

This one is super sweet and isn’t in the picture because it’s with Natsu at the moment. But it’s really thoughtful and adorable, and I just love Ari and Dante to bits and pieces. Definitely a must-read, guys!

Beautiful Music For Ugly Children by Kirstin Cronn-Mills -  About a young trans teen named Gabe who recently came out to his best friend and parents. The book is about him trying to make peace with who he is. Mostly, he does this through his love of music, and his bond with his next door neighbour, an old man who helps him get his first radio show, where he quickly develops a following of fans who fall for his unique taste in music and his quirky personality.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell - A Harry Potter-inspired fantasy book with an absolutely fascinating magic system. We follow an orphaned chosen one who’s just trying to get through the his last school year at his magic boarding school, the Watford School of Magicks, while the entire magical community somehow expects him to save them from the villain who’s been stealing their magic. And not to mention having to deal with his archnemesis vampire roommate who has probably been trying to kill him since the moment they met in first year. But after being broken up with by his girlfriend, and invited to his aforementioned archnemesis’ house over Christmas break, needless to say nothing is going as he would have expected. This entire book reads like some kind of strange, drarry roommates au fanfiction, and it’s absolutely GLORIOUS.

every day by David Levithan -  “A” doesn’t have a body of their own. For every single morning of their life, they’ve woken up in a different person’s body, with no friends or family or life to call their own. And it’s all fine. A’s gotten used to it, made peace with their fate. They’ve learned not to get too attached to anyone, learned not to attract too much attention or interfere too much with the life of the body they wake up in. That is, until they somehow find themselves falling in love with the girlfriend of one of the guys whose body they’re borrowing one day. I actually had to consider for a while whether or not to include this book, because a lot of the most important bodies A inhabits throughout this book are male bodies, and the main female lead is straight. But A themself is nonbinary and pan. They identify as whatever gender the body they’re in is, and are attracted to people regardless of their gender. Loved this book to bits and pieces, really bittersweet. It has a sequel called “Another Day” which is focused mainly on the Rhiannon, the female love interest, but I haven’t read that one yet since I’m not terribly interested in her.

Fan Art by Sarah Tregay - This one is….very juvenile. And by that, I mean it’s one of those idyllic, clichéd ya romances that we all like to pretend we don’t like, but that has all the tropes that we just adore in fanfiction and that we inevitably end up finishing in one sitting. It’s about a high schooler named Jamie who’s recently realized he’s head over heels for his (seemingly) straight best friend, Mason. Cue teen drama and angst and mutual pining. A really cute, light read with an adorable little comic near the beginning.

More Than This by Patrick Ness - Seth attempts suicide by trying to drown himself, and is pretty sure he succeeded. He felt his skull bash against the rocks after all. Only…he wakes up, naked, thirsty, starving, and utterly alone. He has absolutely no clue where he is, but the abandoned, crumbling, overgrown streets seem somehow vaguely familiar to him.

A suspenseful, thrilling, heartbreaking post-apocalypse with a gay protag that absolutely definitely has room for a sequel, though I don’t think the author has any plans to write one.

Openly Straight by Bill Konigsberg - Rafe Goldberg is openly gay, and has a pretty good life. His parents are super supportive, he’s popular at school and has lots of friends, and no one really cares that he’s gay. But he’s getting tired of always being labelled as “the gay friend”. He just wants to be a “regular guy” and not “the gay guy.” So when he transfers to an all-boys’ boarding school, he decides to become “openly straight” instead. But just when everything was going perfectly for him, it all starts unravelling when he finds himself falling for one of his new friends.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I enjoyed it quite a bit while I was reading it, but the ending left me quite unsatisfied, and after having some time away to think about it, I’m not entirely sure I like the main character very much. He’s kinda really manipulative. Read at your own risk.

Proxy by Alex London - Sydney “Syd” Carton is a proxy. Rescued from the wastelands as an infant, his debt to the city was bought by a huge corporation that sells the lives of orphans like him to various rich and powerful people, who buy them as scapegoats for their own children. Syd’s patron, Knox Brindle, is exactly the rebellious, asshole bad boy that every proxy dreads. When Knox breaks an expensive vase, Syd is beaten. When Knox crashes a car, Syd is forced to donate a dangerous amount of blood to keep him alive. When a girl dies because of Knox’s aforementioned car crash…Syd gets the death penalty. His mad attempt to flee his fate leads to the accidental kidnapping of his patron and has the two of them branded as terrorists, leading to a crazy, cross-country chase that will change their entire world as they know it.

This book. Is literally one of my favourite books in the entire fucking world. Hands down the best dystopia book I’ve ever read. The characters are absolutely fantastic, the character development is fucking amazing (Knox somehow ended up becoming my fav character???), the world is rich and vibrant, and the book is beautiful and thrilling and utterly heartbreaking. If you read just one book from this entire list, let it be this one. It also has a sequel, for those of you interested, though I haven’t read it (and don’t plan on it either), so I can’t really vouch for it.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan - When two boys from completely different social circles and personalities somehow stumble across each other on one mutually crappy night, their shared name brings both their lives careening together in a strange, complicated, and downright frustrating way.

This one….was kinda dark. It was funny, because one of the Will Graysons is an edgy lil emo kid who thinks strictly in lowercase and writes angsty poetry and he’s absolutely adorable. But it also addresses some very real hardships and struggles that both gay and straight teens have to face.

Let’s face it, we bookworms tend to put a lot of pressure on ourselves, when it comes to our reading, because we’re weird like that, but in a good way. And, the truth is that reading should always be fun. Guilt free. ALL THE FUN SO MUCH OF THE FUN BECAUSE WORDS ON PAGES *insert screech* You know what I’m talking about. So I thought that compiling a list of the reasons that bookworms feel guilty and why they should just stop would be a great idea

  1. Not reaching our Goodreads challenge/lowering our goal for the year

In the past few years, the Goodreads challenge has become a staple of measuring achievement when it comes to reading. It has become insanely popular and it’s honestly such a good tool to keep track of everything you’re reading. But it also adds an immense amount of pressure. I’ve been there. When December rolls around and you see that you’re to the Goodreads challenge what Pluto is to being a planet in the Solar System (a.k.a. not even close; also VIVA LA PLUTO because Pluto deserved better smh), the panic sets in. You’re left with two options: lowering your goal or not finishing the challenge. Both make you feel like crap. But honestly, life makes us feel like crap far too many times, thank you very much, so let’s not let reading add to the ever growing pile of crap, am I right?

There’s no reason to feel guilty. If you read one book that year, you’re still a bookworm and it’s still a HUGE achievement. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t reach your challenge. It’s just a stupid tracking tool on the internet, it’s not something to measure your worth as a reader or as a person. You’re still awesome, even if you read just a page. Even one page counts. We’re busy, school and work get in the way 99% of the times. Unexpected life events occur. Shit happens. It’s normal and it’s expected, because life is fun and all that jazz.

Also, may I suggest a great idea: set your goal to one book for the year. Boom! Pressure off. You’ll still be able to see what books you read, how many pages and all that jazz, with the bonus that you don’t feel like hyperventilating every time you open your Goodreads account

  2. Not finishing books (the dreaded DNF)

Let me tell you something right off the bat: life is too short to waste on books that you’re not enjoying. Yes, I know, if you’re like me, you die a little on the inside every time you are at that point where you want to scream at the book you’re reading: BUT WHY ARE YOU NOT GOOD WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME WHO DID I OFFEND IN A PREVIOUS LIFE FML FML. It’s a reality. But let’s face it: you’re not going to enjoy every single book you pick up. It’s just not written in the stars. Which is why it’s perfectly acceptable to just…stop reading it. Put it down. Hug a kitten. Contemplate the universe. Leave it be. Maybe pick it up at a later time, maybe not. But don’t feel guilty. You didn’t disappoint the book, yourself, the book gods or literature as a whole. It just wasn’t meant to be and you should never force yourself to read a book you’re not enjoying. In my case, every time I force myself to keep going with a book I’m not enjoying, I tent to end up in The-Thing-That-Should-Not-Be-Named a.k.a. the Book Slump™. Just…no.

  3. Not reading classics

80% of the classics I’ve read have bored me to tears. I mean. I want me some dragons, magic and lost princesses. There are no such things in most classics (a huge oversight on the part of the writers, but I’m not pointing fingers). I’ve stumbled upon some that I really enjoyed, but too few to really make me actively pursue reading classics. The trouble is that a lot of people cringe so badly when you tell them that you don’t read classics.

“So yeah, I don’t really read or like classics”
“OMG HOW DARE YOU I AM OFFENDED”
“Um, I just..don’t really enjoy them/relate to the stories/want to live while I’m reading them”
“BLASPHEMY. SACRILEGE. BEGONE HEATHEN. SHAAAAME”

Whenever people react like this, it puts me off reading classics even more, because I hate judgy people. But I digress. My point is, the amount of classics that you read or don’t read doesn’t indicate how “good” of a reader you are (fyi, there are no good or bad readers imo). It’s just indicative of the genres you enjoy reading. That is all. People who read classics aren’t THE BEST BOOKWORMS™. They’re just people. Like you.

  4. Rereading books

I will shout this from the rooftops: I LOVE REREADING BOOKS. It’s something so refreshing and comfortable to go back to a book universe you fell in love with. To revisit favourite characters and go on adventures with them again. I reread at least a few books every year. Last year, I actively tried to reread at least one book each month. It was so much fun!

Rereading books can get you out of The Slump™. Rereading books is an excellent alternative for when you can’t afford to buy new books because stupid life costs money booooo. Rereading can be so insightful, because you notice so many things you missed on your first (or second, or third or…you get my drift) read. Rereading can be a whole new experience years after reading that book for the first time. Rereading a certain book can be the best for you at a certain time, because everything is familiar and safe. Rereading is absolutely no reason to feel guilty – people usually say they’re wasting time when they’re rereading (um, no), missing out on new releases (they’ll still be there a week later when you finish rereading your favourite book thank you very much), they fear not liking it as much the second time around (fine, I’ll give you this, it’s a possibility, BUT I ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE). Long story short: reread more books 2k17.

  5. Neglecting books because life

We’re bookworms, yes. But we’re also People Who Need To Live and Function in Society. What does this mean? That we sometimes don’t have that much time to read (I know, it’s just so rude). Days may pass when we don’t read at all. Weeks. Sometimes months. Years? (all my college years were spent reading almost academic books exclusively; it was a dark time in my life). But that’s okay. There’s no reason to feel guilty for doing our best to live out lives. Doing that sometimes implies giving up certain things, because we simply don’t have the time or energy to do them. That doesn’t make us bad people or bad readers. Your books will still be waiting for you when you have the time to devote them your full attention. Books don’t judge.

Surprisingly or not, this is just part one. I have many feelings about this particular topic, because I really really want people to read books guilt free. And live the bookworm life to the fullest

I’d love to hear your thoughts on these points. And if there was ever a time you felt guilty for something book related

Happy reading, bookish people <3

#FannibalFicRecs

This post was supposed to be much shorter, but people in the Hannibal fandom are so talented and there are too many fics that I love, so this is the result…
After much struggle I decided to divide the stories into two categories: fics that I read some time ago and that still hunt me, and some WIPs that I am following eagerly.
I tried to avoid reccing the “classic” stories and to limit myself to one rec for each writer. It doesn’t mean that I don’t love them, it’s just a length-of-the-post problem!

Fanfictions that stole my heart and that still have to give it back

Friendship is Not My Forte by Azure_K_Mello
“When Will becomes too ill to stand Hannibal takes him to another neurologist. Then the good doctor takes care of him and learns a little more about Will in the process.”
Season one AU where Will’s mental issues have much more influence in his life than in the series. Will is acutely aware of his problems and perfectly capable of dealing with them, and the story explores his coping mechanisms and the constant struggle to live as a functional member of society. In the meantime, Hannibal murders people, Jack tries to catch murderers and the slow burn love story proceeds. This is a WIP, but absolutely charming!

Alternative Means of Influence by 9_of_Clubs and Quedarius
“There are means of influence other than violence.
A Ravenclaw with a rare and inconvenient talent for legilimency; a Slytherin who cannot speak, and thus cannot spell. Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter are strange boys who fall into a strange friendship in this Hogwarts AU, told through their journal entries.
Magic and all else aside, what could have been if they came into each other’s lives at just the right moment.”

Hogwarts AU sadly in hiatus -.-“
This story touches all the genres, from tooth-rotting fluff to devastating angst and violence. As in the Harry Potter books, the plot grows increasingly darker and Hannibal’s sad past is slowly revealed. This story is an emotional rollercoaster and it is impossible to stop reading it!

Wage Your War by Della19
“To say that Will Graham is still an unmated, childless omega at the age of thirty-eight is his own choice is true. It is not to say that it is his preference. Will wants a mate and a family just as much – perhaps even more – than the next omega. He’s simply never met that one person who fit the bill before. And then he walks into Jack Crawford’s office and meets Hannibal Lecter and well that, as they say in the business, is that.
Now all he needs to do is convince Hannibal of that. But well, this is Hannibal Lecter he is dealing with. It must be done a certain…flair. But that isn’t a problem for Will. Not at all.
After all, snakes may kill mongoose, but one must never forget this as well: mongoose hunt snakes too.
It’s Will Graham’s turn to wage his war.
Or, here is a fic about omega! Will Graham manipulating alpha!Hannibal Lecter into getting exactly what he wants.”

This story features dark omega Will slowly manipulating Hannibal into loving him. It is refreshing to see Will using his empathy as a weapon to get what he wants and to kill without a second thought. In the meantime, he also convinces Hannibal that Hannibal is trying to court Will, and not the other way round! Because, of course, it wouldn’t do to destroy an alpha’s pride…
Absolutely dark and delightful!

Bloodline by @xzombiexkittenx
“Someone is murdering fledgling vampires and it’s up to Will Graham to figure out whodunnit while coming to grips with his own undeath. Ostensibly, Hannibal Lecter, whose noble and ancient linage opens doors for the investigation, is supposed to be helping. Helping, is not the term Will would use.”
The classic story where Will has to pretend to be Hannibal’s boyfriend to solve a murder, but with vampires! The investigation proceeds more or less smoothly, and in the meantime we get to discover Hannibal’s quirks as a vampire. Because it is not possible for Hannibal not to cook, right?
Very funny and heartwarming fic, with murders. As in the best Hannigram tales.

This Dangerous Game by MissDisoriental
“ “Keep your wits about you Inspector Graham – I rather fear you are going to need them.”
London 1888. In order to catch the notorious serial killer known as Jack the Ripper, Will Graham must seek the insights of Dr Hannibal Lecter.“

Hannigram AU set in victorian London, with great characterization, humor, cliffhangers and an intricate plot!
This is my absolute favourite AU in all the fandom. Miss Disoriental is incredibly talented and can both make you laugh or scream in terror!
The connection between Will and Hannibal is not explained, is simply shown… They behave differently around each other, they are happier and more relaxed. They really seem meant for each other! Every sentence of the story is filtered through Will’s or Hannibal’s thoughts, which gives emotional resonance to every little details.
This is an absolute masterpiece and everyone should read it!!

Sensates by @starkaryen
“Will Graham is consulting for the FBI on the case of the Minnesota Shrike, but things complicate and everything goes wrong. When he kills Garret Jacob Hobbs, something happens to him and he starts having hallucinations with the known serial killer Hannibal Lecter, who has been imprisoned on the Baltimore State Hospital For The Criminally Insane for three years.
Or, at least, Will thinks they’re hallucinations.”

A Hannibal-Sense8 crossover. Hannibal and Will can touch and feel each other even if they have never met. Will knows from the start that Hannibal is a killer, but he is inevitally drawn to him.
This story is incredibly sweet and emotional :D

A Way to Live by @sugarmaus
“Hannibal is in the market for a new slave. It’s time for his next experiment.”
A really dark story. Hannibal is planning to amuse himself with his slave and then to kill him when he will get bored. Will has to read him correctly and to keep being interesting to survive.
The story is told by Hannibal’s sick POV. Will’s expressions and reactions are constantly evaluated and challenged, and you can see Hannibal slowly falling for his slave… and constantly planning how to kill him. The sense of danger is palpable and the exchanges between the two characters are full of tension.

WIPs that have me hooked

I Do Wander Everywhere by @moku-youbi
“ It’s something he could always do, as far back as he can remember. The first time that really stood out in his mind, he was six and his father was angry. Will did it without thought, running down the hall, trying to calm his wild heart and rapid breathing. His father’s footsteps heavy behind him.
In the end his father had dragged him out from the bed. “Never again,” he’d said, holding Will tight enough to leave bruises on his arms. “Your mother’s gone and I won’t have that under my roof.”
Canon Divergence from Takiawase. Using his ability to become invisible, Will beats Beverly to Hannibal’s house, but his reckoning soon takes on an entirely different shape than what he’d originally intended…”

Will has the ability to become invisible, and he uses it to get out of prison and wreak havoc on Hannibal. Hannibal understands what is going on, but decides to play along…
The idea is enthralling, and I am so curious about what will happen!

Priority One by @shiphitsthefan
“Will Graham became the unwilling host of a xenomorph, ultimately leading to his demise. Hannibal, an android scientist working for the Verger-Pazzi Corporation, finds his dear friend’s death unacceptable; additionally, the opportunity to study the newly-discovered species is too tempting to turn down.
The Company looks to profit; the crew of the Baltimore, to cope; the resurrected and hybridized Will, to accept his fate. As for Hannibal, his developing emotions may prove more alien than the actual one he cares for on board.”

This is a delightful serie of ficlets telling the domestic little inconveniences of android!Hannibal and xenomorph! Will. The stories are packed with so many emotions, and are hopeful and sad all at once. I can’t wait for the next chapter!!

highlands by peacefrog
“Will woke to the sound of crunching leaves. Nearby, water flowed, the scent of it bright in his nostrils. He opened his eyes and squinted against thin rays of sun. His body was bare save for the boxer shorts he went to bed in.”
When Will sleeps, he wanders into the kindom of Hannibal the Forest King. When he wakes up, he deals with the real Hannibal.
This is too short, I want to know more about this universe!

An untamed force by DrHannibalLecterMD
“A season 1 canon divergence with a different meeting.”
This is an Alpha/Beta/Omega Verse, but with a twist. Will and Hannibal meet and have sex, and Will leaves shortly after. Some months later, Hannibal found him…and his son.
There are a lot of things going on in this story. We have a serial killer trying to befriend the Ripper. We have the Ripper declaring unending love to “someone”. We have Hannibal wondering if he should just kill Will and take custody of the baby or do the effort and court him. Through murders, of course.

Conquerors by @cinnamaldeide
“Will had never felt the need to wear them in the presence of Alana, never wanted to distance himself from her, not until Hannibal went from being his best friend to the person who stole his longstanding crush.”
A short but intense dialogue featuring annoyed Will, oblivious Alana and scholar Hannibal. The interactions between the three characters are delightful, especially Hannibal trying to find the meaning of his name in history. But Will can see right through him.

@hannibalficwriters

accidental-rambler  asked:

“I’m in a bookshop and I really need to get that book but I'd rather get on my toes and jump at the shelf and do every single ridiculous thing to reach it than ask for your help, oh wait, you've read that book, let's have an aggressive in-depth discussion about it." for nessian au, pretty please :) (bc height difference and bookworm Nesta are life!)

(they really and truly are. Okay i had a go??)

Azriel emerges from the backroom with a large box full of new books to put out onto the shelves. He and Cassian had agreed to watch Amren’s book store for a few hours while she ‘did things’, which was all the information either of them had gotten on the matter. Az doesn’t mind, he enjoys working in the shop. Cassian sets up at the front of house and talks to the customers and deals with that side of things, leaving him free to sort out the backroom which, inevitably, is always a mess.

Glancing over at his brother as he begins to set up the display at the front of the till he notes the way he’s standing. Both elbows are braced on the desk in front of him, his chin propped on his hands, gazing across the room with unwavering focus.

Azriel spots the girl who’s become the unfortunate object of Cassian’s attention and frowns. A few years younger than them, by the looks of it, petite, brown hair that turns golden when the light hits in the right way, a neat dress on. Pretty, he supposes, but not worth the intense focus Cassian is levelling her way.

“You’re staring,” he says pointedly, hoping this will direct Cass’ attention elsewhere.

It doesn’t. He only gets an irritable wave of one of Cassian’s massive hands, he doesn’t even turn to look at him as he does so. “It’s a slow day,” he says, as though this explains anything, “She’s very entertaining.”

Frowning, Az sets down his box and pads noiselessly over to the counter for a better look at the woman. She seems to have her eyes on one of the books on the top shelf but, coming in at just a little over five feet, she’s having some difficulty getting the one she wants.

Az sighs, “Why don’t you go over there and help her?” he suggests, shaking his head.

Cassian turns to him with a look on his face that implies he’s just said the stupidest thing he’s ever heard in his entire life. “But this is much more fun,” he says, a wicked grin spreading across his face.

“She’s going to hurt herself,” Az says, casting a wary eye over her again, fearing for the straining muscles in her shoulders as she reaches for the book again.

He makes to slide out from behind the counter but Cassian grabs his wrist. “We’re right here,” he says, that annoying smirk firmly back in place, “She can ask us for help any time she wants. You know Amren’s policy is not to bother the customers.”

Azriel glowers, “I’m sure she wouldn’t want us to have to send a customer to hospital because you miraculously decided to start following the rules,” he comments drily.

Cassian irritably flaps his hands again in a shushing motion, then gestures back towards the woman, now apparently looking around for something to stand on. Cassian slaps a ten pound note down on the table, “I give her five minutes before she’s over here begging for one of us to help her get her book.”

Azriel eyes her again with an appraising look, then rummages in his own pocket and pulls out a ten pound note of his own, far less creased than Cassian’s and lays it neatly on top, “Not a chance,” he says simply.

As predicted, Azriel is correct. Five minutes later he scoops up the money, Cassian grumbling irritably with his hands shoved deep in his pockets, and the woman is still doing everything she can think of save simply asking for their help. When she gets to the stage of piling books out of her bag on top of one another to reach the shelf above, however, Azriel nudges Cassian in the ribs and orders him to go and help her. Now.

Huffing, and throwing Az a vulgar gesture over his shoulder, Cassian moves towards her.

“Need a hand, sweetheart?” Is how Cass chooses to open proceedings and Az groans, shaking his head. He resists burying his face in his hands only because he wants to fix this moment perfectly in his memory for the rest of his life.

The woman gives him a truly withering glare that would have caused any man save Cassian to shrivel before it and then replies with forced, terse politeness that no, she does not need help from some overlarge, hulking busybody, thank you very much.

Azriel’s eyebrows raise in approval even as he watches his brother cock his head at her, sizing her up, a new worthy opponent to distract him from the slow day they’re having. “By all means, knock yourself out, sweetheart,” he drawls, crossing his arms over his chest and stepping back to watch her struggle, smirking.

“Don’t call me that,” she snaps at him, eyebrows narrowing.

“Well if I knew your name, I wouldn’t have to resort to it…Sweetheart,” he replies with a casual smirk, laying a delicate emphasis on the petname. Azriel is thinking he should have started another bet before Cass left him, namely on how long he could pull this shit with her without having his head ripped off, which she looks altogether too capable of doing.

She isn’t forthcoming with her name, she only turns away from him, as though he isn’t worth the breath it would take to spit out a scathing reply, and turns back to the bookshelf with renewed determination.

Cassian simply watches as she climbs onto her teetering pile of books, reaches, stretches, jumps, snarls, and mutters a string of highly amusing curses that Azriel has never heard before in her attempts to reach the book.

When, however, she actually starts climbing on the shelves in her bid to grab the damn thing however, Cassian starts forwards in alarm. Not a moment too soon, either, as a second later her foot slips and with a gasp she topples from the shelf, right into Cassian’s waiting arms.

He sets her gently on her feet, looking a little shellshocked and she manages to grit out a stiff, “Thank you,” not looking at him. Before she can attempt any more dramatics in the pursuit of fine literature, Cass reaches up and tugs a copy of the book down, pressing it into her arms.

Amazingly, she opens her mouth to snap at him but he cuts her off firmly, “You have good taste, sweetheart,” picking up her pile of books he carries them towards the counter, “Why don’t you go home and read it rather than ending up in hospital trying, okay?”

She glowers at him but salvages her pride, lifts her chin, and marches towards Azriel. Cassian trails her like a lost puppy, watching her now with hungry eyes. He elbows Az out of the way to ring her up himself, studying the book she’d picked, “Let me know what you think of it when you’re done,” he says, “It’s a good read.”

“I’ve already read it,” she says coolly, digging in her bag for her purse, having replaced the pile of books she’d attempted to use earlier as a footstool. Then she looks up at Cassian, eyes slightly narrowed, “You’ve read it too?”

He grins almost wickedly, leaning casually against the counter, “Of course I have,” he smirks. When she further narrows her eyes, as though she doesn’t believe him, he launches into a debate about one of his favourite characters who was brutally killed off far too early, in his opinion.

She fires up at once in response to this, seeing red and ranting at him about how necessary that death was, how it had to happen, how the story would have been flat and meaningless without it. After fifteen minutes of hot bickering back and forth, neither of them stopping long enough to breathe in between bouts, she catches sight of the clock behind the counter and jumps, blushing faintly.

“I have to go,” she mumbles, pulling the book off of the counter and stuffing it into her bag.

Daringly, in Az’s opinion, Cassian reaches across the table and takes her hand, staring straight into this beautiful blue-gray eyes, “I’m free at five,” he offers quietly, “There’s a nice little coffee shop just down the street we could continue this in.” Azriel isn’t sure if she catches it, but he can hear the hopeful note in his brother’s voice.

She stares at him for a long moment, weighing, considering, then, “My name is Nesta,” is all she says, before turning and heading towards the door.

The smile that spreads across Cassian’s face in answer might have implied that he’d just won the lottery, rather than potentially secured a date with a woman who seems just as likely to devour him as to get on with him. Az just claps him on the shoulder in a universal gesture that implies he’s going to need a lot of luck to get through this, then shuffles back down into the storeroom, leaving Cassian standing at the till and grinning from ear to ear.

St. Francis Orphanage - Little Details

hello it’s time to cry about nate being a sad orphan child

Nate and Elena’s First House || Adventure Family House Part One || Adventure Family House Part Two

and here we see the exact moment Nathan Drake developed a problem with authority figures

Sister Catherine victim blaming our titular hero. how rude

(seriously though… some kid stole his books and told him his father hated him + his mom was in hell because she killed herself. I would beat the shit out of timmy too, Debra)

nate was drawing like da vinci right out the womb. the other kids got nothing on him

you’ll visit like every one of those continents one day bb dont worry

sister catherine is right. if you had left ur books in here with jesus, no one would have touched them

(also - Adventure Life magazine! your kid is gonna be on that one day my dude)

pirate comic books ;_;

it’s the 16th of January I think? There would be a shitload of snow in Boston though, wouldn’t there? (Sam also mentions the motorcycle and their mom’s stuff was a surprise that “couldn’t wait till Christmas”, which is like an entire year away if it’s January, so who tf knows what the actual date is).

If it is January though, the year that Jan 1st was on a Sunday that would make the most sense would be 1989. This makes Nate 13, as he was born in 1976. I got Nate’s birth year from A) the ‘76 on Sam’s lighter, and B) Nate was 30 when he met Elena in 2006 (he’s 34 in uncharted 3 (can’t remember where that’s mentioned tho, oops), and Sully makes a comment about them blowing up his plane 4 years ago), so 2006 - 1976 = 30.

@im-elated made a cool post about this here already, but I wanted to include this detail in this post too - the orphanage got 3 separate “certificate of excellence” awards, which is meant to do a couple of possible things narratively:

1) Establish a rift between the perceptions of happiness and well-being between the staff running the orphanage and the children living there, as Nate makes it very plain how much he hates being at St. Francis. Or,

2) Establish that Nate’s experiences in the orphanage are an anomaly, and that the other children are generally content with being there.

The second option might make more sense, given that Sister Catherine says it’s a “waste” that Nate is following in his brother’s footsteps + her mentioning to Father Duffy that he should potentially be moved to another orphanage because of his behaviour. Nate is clearly a misfit among his peers, based on the way the nuns treat him, and the contrast shown between his own space (messy bed, books and craft materials piled everywhere) and the other children’s (neat, toys sparse and put away out of sight).

what do the red circles on the dates mean? Are kids adopted on that day? is that when they go on bible retreats? slightly ominous

The windows directly outside of Nate’s room. I didn’t take a picture of the windows left of this scene, but they’re similarly barred. Given that this is the only window not barred in the kid’s dormitories, and given how much the nuns seem to dislike Sam + his life choices, I wonder if he ripped the bars off while he was still there or something.

Nate’s report file! You can see the M of his last name hidden behind the very unhappy-looking photo.

What the report says:

I caught a glimpse of Edward waving one of Nathan’s books around, teasing the young boy; Nathan immediately lept on Edward, knocking the larger boy down. I ran over to separate the boys, but not before they both managed to pummel each other.

Other stuff worth noting: they were in the Cafeteria according to the report, so Nate was likely sitting alone, minding his business and reading about more interesting places, when Asshole Child Edward came up and stole his book (and badmouthed Nate’s parents). Poor muffin :(

It’s funny to see that the chapter directly after this one (Infernal Place, in Panama), Nate is in still in some form of captivity, but he is now the bigger kid on the block. He’s carved out a space for himself in a familiar environment (ie any prison or form of state incarceration), even if he has to take a few punches to make that happen. U go boy

ah yes. my favourite childhood games: Democracy, the Game of Strife, and Fruit to Fruit. I see you, naughty dog

Arts and crafts! I’m sure Nate hoards this stuff during play time

I’m very much feeling my age with this old ass box PC. I remember fighting with kids over the lone computer in my grade one room. good times.

alright which one of you fuckers ate the goddamn Z magnet

@im-elated also pointed this out (thank u for inspiring half the content in this post), but this is the Pain Board. “DREAMS” has a typical American Dream family home under it, and if you look closely:

Nate’s name is half-erased and crossed off the Star List (probably by another kid, given how messy the job is). Nate being chronically bullied as a child just feeds more into his issues with self-identity and worth later in life. RIP

More pain. I don’t think Nate has a picture up here though? His drawings are a lot more precise than the other children already, and given that he’s the only kid in his room who hangs up his drawings next to his bed, he probably likes to keep them more private (possibly because he was picked on by jealous assholes who wanted to be as good at drawing as he was, or called him a nerd for drawing historical scenes)

look how instantly just,,, happy nate gets when he’s with his bro. Sam is the only good thing in his life at this point, and he doesn’t even get to see him regularly.

(also: hairy floof)

It’s difficult to get photos that show the full extent of St. Francis, but this place is huge. This might be a mix of different buildings - church, orphanage, and possibly even a divinity college? It covers a pretty massive area in Boston.

hmm. the front door, aka the last place Nate and Sam saw their father. I wonder if Sam ever tried to find their dad after getting out of the orphanage?

aaaaand there we go! This chapter is hidden with lots of cool stuff (and pain) that gives a surprising amount of insight into Nate and Sam’s early development and character establishment.

The more I think about it, the more I think the main thing that ‘went wrong’ with Andromeda is that it plays everything so safe. I still like the game, but that is the one overarching issue that stopped me from enjoying it as much as I wanted to.

This is a new galaxy; they could have done anything, but it all feels so utterly familiar.

The story starts at the wrong point in the time line

The biggest mistake they made, story wise, was making us come into the galaxy at the point that we did. I will never for the life of me understand why they took a game that was going to be about exploration and how ‘we’re the aliens now’ and not let us be the first humans to arrive in Andromeda.

Just start the game at that point. Before the uprising, before the outposts, before the Nexus is half-built. Have us truly be the first humans the Angara meet. Have us struggle to understand each other, and slowly win their trust, only to lose it when the Uprising happens and they see a darker side to humans.

How devastating would it be to have worked to gain their trust, gain Jaal’s trust, and then see it all get swept away by events out of our control?

This way we also get more chances to bond to Alec, as he’ll be around for longer than 2 minutes. Think about establishing those first outposts on Eos with Alec, only to see them fail disastrously with us, the pathfinder team, carrying that guilt with them.

This also means we’ll see the Nexus fail, see Garson murdered (not entirely clear on the timeline for that tbh). And eventually we will have to see characters we know turn against us during the Uprising itself!

And if they have to get rid of the dad, he could die during the Uprising (adding a personal touch to having to deal with the Exiles), or hell, maybe he joins them.

As it is now, it just feels like we missed a large part of interesting narrative in Andromeda. We’re made pathfinder in 2 seconds and succeed from the word go. There are obstacles to getting the outposts up and running, but no real struggle. Another consequence of setting the story 18 months (I think it’s 18) from when the first people arrived is that it robs us of being the first.

(I’m also not entirely clear on why the Nexus had to be there first, because it can’t function without Outposts, they need a pathfinder to find outposts, but the arc’s had the pathfinders and they were meant to arrive later on? Also, no one on the Hyperion says they arrived too late, but on the Nexus they say they thought everyone was dead, which seems to indicate they were waiting for longer than they thought they had to? I might be missing something here.)

Planets are not inviting to explore

As it stands, it just adds more familiarity into a game that already suffers from taking too few risks.

Everything from the planets to the wild life to who we encounter feels so safe. Storybeats are repeated from the original trilogy, enemies as well. On four of the planets we already see a lot of milky way equipment/ milky way species. And even Kandara Port (though I like the design), which was built by the Angara feels like it wouldn’t be out of place in me2.

All the planets are a bit of a let down when it comes to how not-alien they feel, excepting Havarl and arguably habitat 7, they don’t feel that alien. And the frustrating thing is, this isn’t filmed on location, they’re not constrained by planet Earth; they could have gone all out.

Besides not feeling alien the planets also feel so… dead. I know there is a bit of an in game reason for this, but 1. they created the reason 2. I don’t think that’s the reason.

Every planet gets one or two pieces of plant life, looking only slightly alien from what we see on earth. The rest is desert, snow desert, almost barren ground. Throw in a lot of rocks. And 4 different animals, all just reskins of that same set from other planets. (Even those acidic lakes are things we can find right here.) And why do we still not have a weather or day/ night cycle? It’s one thing if you just work with smaller hubs, but bragging about your huge maps and then have them be utterly static seems a bit weird.

We also only get one alien city. One, and it’s tiny. At least it feels more like a city than Val Royeaux, but not by much. I do like Aya’s design though. We do see some smaller camps? settlements? of the Angara, but if they were such a presence in the cluster until 80 years back when the Kett arrived, where are the ruins to their civilization? The abandoned cities of the Angara?

The Jardaan certainly piqued my interest, but what do we really see of them? The vaults, that one giant starship, not-Meridian, and Meridian itself, which is one of the few places that was inviting to explore so of course we couldn’t. Did they just not leave any other marks on the planets except those things and the ‘points of interest’ (that are not interesting)?

All we really have to interrupt these huge boring maps, clearly designed to only rush through with your Nomad, is some random fights (the same two variations I think) and ‘points of interest’, except there’s never anything of interest except some remnant to kill and a container? After a while I just gave up checking them out tbh, so please point out any great ones you found.

There are of course a lot of sidequests thrown in, some of them I found pretty fun and a huge improvement on da:i, but they don’t invite you to explore. The planet itself isn’t worth exploring so when doing a sidequest you just rush to the point you have to get. In other games, games that do this concept well, you set your quest and then while going there get distracted by things you find out in the world. Here that happened maybe a few times, and usually it was because I came across a point for another quest and someone hailed me. It was never because I saw something that piqued my interest and I went over there and it had something fun to do.

A lack of new species, and disappointing returning aliens

They never showed a lot of the milky way species and the ones we did see lacked diversity. The just picked one head morph - or two in the case of Turians where the females have different facial structure - and slapped on some paint. I expect more not less from a newer game. The Asari were the most jarring - to the point I avoided Kerri because she has Lexi’s face and it’s just ridiculous. But the Salarians have just as little diversity. Google salarians in mass effect and you’ll see they did so much more with them in the original trilogy. And I have to say, there were too many Turians with white faces,  a few of them important characters as well, I still mix up Kandros and Avitus.

And what do we get in exchange for all the species we don’t see return and the diversity that’s gone? One new species. One. I love the Angara, but I can’t help but be disappointed that we travel to a new galaxy only to discover one new race. Unless we count throw away enemy the collectors .2 the Kett. But really, they only brought back 4 of the original trilogy’s races and still didn’t have enough resources to add some diversity to Andromeda? Really? We just get the Angara…

Finally…

I would just have scrapped the giant maps, and gone for smaller but denser packed ones, like Havarl and Habitat 7. Add much more plant life and animal life and real diversity in those two, to all the planets. And make them more alien.

Have no more than one desert planet, I vote Elaaden as it was the best desert, and stick more sunken ruins in it that have actual things to discover about the Jardaan. And make that the only planet so huge that you absolutely have to use the Nomad.

Make Kadara much smaller, with much more lakes so it looks more like a deadly lake planet.

If we have to have a snow planet, make it more original than a white reskin of a desert planet. Maybe we have to drive in giant ice caves, maybe we don’t even get to walk on the surface, maybe the Angara have buried themselves underground in ruins of a old Jardaan city.

And this is just sticking to the planets in game, but they should just have scrapped all of them except Havarl and gone much more alien than they have.

I still like the game, I just think there was a lot of potential there they never bothered to explore. All in all it just feels like they played it safe. Maybe that’s a reaction to the backlash after me3′s endings, but I think it’s where they failed the game the most, and for me it leaves the game in ‘if only’ limbo.

Bonjour! We all know language learning is fun, but it’s still studying, and sometimes you just get really tired of studying. And if you’re like me and you’re intermediate in a language, it gets to the point where you want to start using the language instead of just endlessly reading textbooks and doing the same practice questions over and over. So I’ve compiled a list of things you could do where you’re learning a language without it feeling like you’re studying!

- ̗̀ Reading ̖́-

  • Books. Pick up a book in your target language and just read it, with no need to analyze it or answer end-of-chapter questions. Don’t worry about every single foreign word you come across, try to get the general idea of it from the context. But if a word shows up a lot and you still don’t get it, you can look it up! Children’s books are great, too.
  • Comics. Basically just dialogue with pictures to help you understand what the characters are talking about. Need I say more.
  • Blogs. Follow a blog in your target language which posts about something you’re interested in. Blogs usually have less formal language than novels, are of course a lot shorter, and have lots of pictures.
  • Wikipedia. Whenever you’re curious about something and want to casually look it up, switch to the page in your target language. If you want to, you can always read the article in your native language first to understand the topic.

- ̗̀ Listening ̖́-

  • Films and tv. Some have more complex dialogue than others, some have simpler, so there are films and tv shows for almost every level of language learning. If you can’t find a movie originally in your target language, find a dubbed version, it’s better than nothing!
  • Cartoons. Or live-action movies/shows aimed at children. These usually have dialogue that’s easier to understand than those aimed at older viewers. Also they’re fun!
  • Youtube. If you can find vloggers who upload videos in your target language, then go ahead and watch them. Kind of the same thing as with blogs, where the language is more “everyday”!
  • Music. Listen to songs in your target language. It’s okay if you don’t understand everything or even anything, the most important thing is to get used to how the language sounds!

- ̗̀ Writing ̖́-

  • Keeping a diary. This is by far my favourite thing to do when it comes to language learning. The point of this isn’t to write a flawless essay with no mistakes, no one has to read your private diary anyway. The point is to get used to producing a text and expressing yourself in your target language. Start with writing about your day in the present tense. Go on to write about something that happened yesterday. Write about your feelings and what you think will happen in the future. If you want to express something but don’t know the word, look it up. Woo, new vocab word!
  • Short stories. Similar as above, but experiment with verb tenses and sentence structure. Use the fanciest words you know to make that description extra descriptive. Learn to use idioms and similes and metaphors. Your story can be as complex or as simple as you want it to be. And this time, get someone to correct it!
  • Letters and texts. Get a pen pal who speaks your target language, if you can! Or even just an internet friend you can text with. You can even practice speaking with them via Skype or maybe even in person if that’s possible. What better thing to do with a language than do what it’s meant for: communication!
  • Anything else. When writing down your daily to-dos in your planner, write them in your target language. Jot down that reminder on a post-it note but do it in your target language. Anything.

That’s all I have for now, I hope this was helpful and that it has given you some extra motivation to learn that language. Good luck!

Characters: Jimin x Reader
Genre: Fluff (so much fluff I’m drowning in it)
Word count: 1598 words

A/N: Finally, Admin Caramel’s first scenario on this blog! I took a break in-between revision and just wanted to write this request (cuz I’m a sucker for fluff)

We will get to the other requests eventually, but it won’t be soon as we’re busy with school and life (Admin Dumpling and I are about to do our exams) - Admin Caramel

It was late at night and you were seated on the couch with a book in your hand, curled up under a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate on the coffee table. You heard the door opening, but paid no attention to it, too engrossed in the plot to allow any distractions. It is only when you felt a heavy weight land on the couch did you finally look up.

You see Jimin sprawled across the entirety of the couch, with his head on your lap, looking up at you with tired eyes.

“Hey,” he tiredly greeted you. You noticed his hair was slightly damp with sweat, his shirt soaked from the intense dance practice they just had.

“Ew, get off of me Jimin,” you shrieked, not wanting to dirty the blankets or yourself.

“You stink,” you continued, attempting to push him off your lap and the couch. But to your dismay, his dead weight refused to budge no matter how hard you tried to push him. Seeing that your efforts were futile, he simply whined and latched onto you, burrowing himself in to your stomach.

You giggled at the ticklish feeling, and once again tried to push him off. He only latched tighter onto you, unwilling to let you go.

“Come on, let me go and I’ll draw you a bath,” you suggested with a smile on your face at his antics. It was only then was he willing to let you go,  but not without making you promise to cuddle with him after his bath.
