you will get through it

self-pity is okay

but don’t let it turn into self-loathing

there is a line you need to learn

where the two start to fade into each other

and i know, it’s hard, i’ve been there

but don’t cross it

there are no paths over there

no guidance, just detrimental thoughts

it’s so easy to get lost and buried by your own mind

left with no air or will to exist

it’s all taken away from you so easily

and it’s such a cold place

i don’t want you to be stuck there

i don’t want you to be lost

i want you to have hope

i want to tell you a story. it’s a story about a 17 year old boy from columbus ohio, with a rubber band on his wrist and bad thoughts in his head who writes about trees and saying hello. it’s a story about a 20 year old boy from ohio who makes this musical group, and starts to need his rubber band less, and puts his words in to music. it’s a story about a 22 year old boy from ohio, whose life isn’t going quite the way he thought it would but he’s made a new friend, a new brother, and this new friend is helping him project the words he once feared to say, louder and further than he ever thought possible. it’s a story about a 24 year old boy from ohio who has stopped wearing his rubber band completely, and who is singing the world his darkest thoughts, at first afraid of rejection, but growing confidence as he hears the world sing back. it’s a story about a 27 year old boy from ohio, with tattoos lining his wrist where a rubber band once was, who stands in one of the biggest venues in america and sings to nearly 30,000 people about trees and saying hello.

i want to tell you a story. it’s a story about a boy who made it. and i want you to know that you can make it too. you are not a sad story. you are not hopeless. you will sing about your own trees one day.

This is what I get for not checking my email while I was on vacation…

y'all I got so much appreciation for coran it’s obvious he was alive for a good few years more before going into the cryopod

coran had lost everything at this point

he witnessed the rise of the galra and the death of his best man alfor

his children, spouse, any family he possibly had, were probably gone

And he decided he was going to protect allura, alfor’s daughter, because if he couldn’t save his own children, he could at least try to save someone else’s child

I’m assuming he traveled to the castle of lions at Arus alone, and then willingly put himself to sleep so he could continue protecting allura later on

which is why when he first awoke he immediately sprung into action to neutralize the threat and protect allura

In the aftermath of it all, Catarina can’t find it in herself to be mad anymore.

At the start, after Magnus had portaled home, staggering and hurt and halfway to death with this boy leaning against him, asking that she help this Shadowhunter first… she remembers healing him – Alexander – and feeling rage. With runes stark on his skin and blood on his knuckles, he had been every inch a Nephilim. The Nephilim who had stolen Magnus’s heart.

She remembers the way she’d frowned at his unconscious face, comparing him to the strip of photographs Magnus left on his desk. Watching him lying there on a makeshift cot in the living room, suffering from the shock of blood loss and broken bones, she couldn’t imagine him making funny faces, couldn’t imagine him looking at Magnus with soft, sweet eyes. Couldn’t imagine that he’d want Magnus’s touch, that he would smile that boyish, lopsided smile with her best friend’s arms looped around him.

She remembers thinking, you don’t deserve him. This Shadowhunter, this lying Head of the New York Institute, didn’t deserve Magnus and his love. Magnus, who had started sleeping exclusively on the right side of the bed, who looked at Madzie with something wistful in his gaze every time she ran toward him, who always protected his people at the expense of his own happiness.

He’s too good for you, she had thought as she glared daggers at the boy in front of her, with his angel blood and penchant for prejudice. But she hadn’t said anything, hadn’t rolled him down the stairs, and had gone to help Magnus instead; her best friend, drained of magic and still stubbornly trying to heal himself. She’d gone to the balcony afterwards to clear her mind for a minute, to rest her hands, and now, as she turns around to check in on Magnus…

The Shadowhunter is missing from his cot. Classic. Rolling her eyes, she opens the door to the master bedroom.

They’re lying in Magnus’s bed together, Magnus’s head pillowed on Alec Lightwood’s chest, nearly asleep as he slowly heals from the wounds of battle. His body still lies stiff from the aches of demon venom coursing through his blood, skin paler than its usual golden hue, bruises littered everywhere, yet his arm is still curled possessively around the Shadowhunter’s waist in a familiar motion.

And the Shadowhunter…

He’s looking at Magnus like he’s a miracle.

His eyes never leave Magnus’s and his face is soft and warm and content, like he’s holding onto something he thought he’d lost forever. He looks young like this, the way he smiles and whispers secrets into Magnus’s ear, the way his fingers trace patterns on his bare shoulder, the way he readjusts the red silk blanket so that it’s tucked carefully under Magnus’s chin.

Magnus can’t see it, with his face buried into the Shadowhunter’s shirt, but from the doorway, Catarina can. This boy… he’s truthfully, honestly, painfully in love. The type of love Catarina hasn’t seen Magnus receive in too long, the type that’s as helpless and natural as the sky is blue. And a part of her still wants to be angry, to shake Alec Lightwood until his teeth click in his skull, to tell him, don’t you ever hurt him, but from the way he’s staring down at Magnus with his heart in his eyes, she thinks he already knows.

Catarina starts to turn around, when unexpectedly Alec Lightwood’s eyes dart up to meet hers at the sound of her loafers swishing faintly against the rug. They stare, frozen for an awkward moment, and she nearly laughs at loud at the way his cheeks go rosy pink. She opens her mouth to say something, to make fun of him maybe, or tell him to let Magnus sleep, but right then Magnus shifts, groaning low in his throat, and the Shadowhunter breaks his gaze, mumbling something into Magnus’s hair that makes her friend smile gently.

Wordlessly, Catarina magics the door closed, staring at the smooth black wood as Magnus and Alec fade from view. In the kitchen, she makes herself a cup of chamomile tea, hands wrapped around the soothing, fragrant heat as she sighs in exhaustion. The two of them… they don’t make sense to her, not at all. They shouldn’t work. But Magnus is Magnus, and he’s never done anything by halves. If his happiness comes in the form of a too-tall Shadowhunter with gentle eyes and a cautious smile, then Catarina will be the very last person in this dimension to tell him no.

anonymous asked:

How’d you learn to draw mechas? I’ve been wanting to try that myself for a while, and I know as an artist that the only way to learn is to just Do it, but it’s so daunting! I have no idea where to begin. Do you have any advice or tips? Thank you for your time!

Okay first of all, sorry to take so long to answer. I really wanted to draw some pics for this, and the last weeks have been quite busy.

1. Draw from the reference

Drawing is like learning a new language: You can’t say you wanna learn English and then just start making up your own words because you think that finding words in the dictionary is cheating - It doesn’t make sense. Find a super cool robot picture and try to copy it. These are called “studies” for a good reason. You’re studying the vocabulary of those drawings. Many times people don’t share their studies since it’s only for the practice. But don’t study just one person. You don’t want to become that person - you want to become better! And if you post your study online, don’t forget to credit the original artist!

2. Try different techniques

One of my favorite techniques is something I call color blocking - I’m not sure if it’s an actual term or just something I came up with. I kind of carve the silhouette of the robot with one color and then I add a second color and carve the details in. I do this also if I have a picture with lots of characters and I want to make sure everything reads correctly. But these are all personal matters. Try different techniques until you find a one that works for you. And remember to flip your canvas!!

3. Try different brushes

My favorite brushes vary, but these three are the ones I keep using more than the others. Kyle’s brush I got used to while I was working on my freelance work - it just feels good to draw with. The square one is really fun to work with in mecha designs, and the basic one also feels surprisingly good while drawing. Sometimes I just grab a new brush, start doodling, and end up with a decent piece.

4. Symmetry vs. asymmetry

This one I included especially because I’m talking about robots. Breaking up the machines with asymmetrical parts gives them more character BUT it’s important to keep the symmetry in mind. If I do a robot that has a one big arm and one small arm, I later make sure that most of the other parts are symmetrical. This way the asymmetry is the choice rather than a mistake.

5. Draw from the reference (!!!)

Yes, I added this the second time because I really feel it’s important! I use Pinterest all the time - I have a board with over 1000 pins of robots! There are paintings from my favorite robot artists, 3D models of super cool robot designs, and even photos of real robots all collected in one place. And for anyone who feels “wrong” doing this: Finding reference DOESN’T mean copying - it can be just an idea or inspiration: It’s finding the language you want to use. Sure you won’t need  the reference as much later on as you build your own “shape-vocabulary” - just like you won’t need your dictionary after you have learned the words you use.

6. It doesn’t have to be perfect

I’m never 100% happy with my work. But I have learned to say “oh well” and move on. Next time I’ll do better.

7. BE PROUD!

Don’t talk down your own work no matter how much you’d like to. If you’re not standing behind your drawings, who will? Sure you do see the mistakes, but it’s still a great piece of art you made!

The Gates of Bisexuality

I was looking at a gifset earlier, when I had a sudden thought. Now, others have speculated on many of these elements already, but I feel like I need to consolidate them. Take a look at this shot:

In this shot, we clearly see that the special suite Dean has ordered has two areas–a sleeping area and a living area. Now, the doors to the sleeping area (where sometimes things that, bear with me, are not sleeping occur) are saloon doors. In other words, they swing both ways. Also note that they are positioned directly in between two figures–one male, and one female. And Dean is the only person we ever visibly see open both doors (Jack only opens one when he goes to wake Dean)–in this shot, here:

In honor of this lovely design choice, I am officially designating these doors the Gates of Bisexuality.

On a related note…Dean’s attire seems to match the male figure’s remarkably. They even strike a similar pose in the same shot…

Meanwhile, as Dean is standing on the side with the male figure, take a look at the female figure…

That tan coat…with blue pants…and short, dark hair…with a light (a lamp even) turned on right next to her (in the middle of the day)…why gee, doesn’t that remind you an awful lot of Cas? Cas, who happens to be sitting on the same side of the  room as that female figure?

So we have Cas and Dean paralleled in both appearance and placement to the two figures who frame the Gates of Bisexuality (I’m gonna trademark that, I swear). I wonder…what could it all possibly mean?

dear tom holland fans,

i’ve heard that there’s been some (completely outrageous) negativity in this fandom especially directed at tom recently. some are about people getting mad that tom didn’t go to the china premiere of spider-man: homecoming when he was clearly sick and unwell. another thing i saw was that tom had apparently unfollowed all the instagrams of models that he was following because people got upset that he liked one photo of a model. i’m sure many of you follow guys or girls that you find attractive on instagram. and i’m sure there isn’t a group of people who are constantly breathing down your neck and making you feel bad for finding someone attractive. there’s plenty of other issues but these are the ones that i’ve seen most recently.

i would just like to point out and remind all fans in the tom holland fandom, whether or not you’ve been involved in this ignorance, that:

  1. Tom is HUMAN
  2. Tom has FEELINGS
  3. Tom has EMOTIONS
  4. Tom deserves PRIVACY
  5. Tom deserves to hang out with whoever he wants regardless of gender and not have people assume that he is in a relationship
  6. Tom doesn’t deserve the pressure some ‘fans’ put on him
  7. Tom doesn’t deserve the shit this fandom gives him
  8. Tom shouldn’t be sacrificing things for his ‘fans’
  9. and last but not least, Tom Holland is just like any one of us and i’m sure if you were in his position and being pressured by people that are supposed to be supporting him and loving him, you wouldn’t like it very much either

i want you all to understand that this is not an attack on the whole fandom. heck, i’m part of this hellhole of a fandom. but it’s to those particular few who seem to have the assumption that they can control tom and have a say in his life that i want to remind that there are boundaries to being somebody’s fan. you can love them, support them, laugh for them, cry for them, but you cannot control them. they are not yours to boss around. not now. not ever.
