you will forever be one of my favorite characters on tv

anonymous asked:

Okay so hi, I was wondering why Robbie isn't in the show anymore? I joined the fandom last season so I don't have any idea what happened behind the scenes pre-Season 12.

Writers move on!

Robbie left the show after season 11 - IN ONE OF THE MOST SAVAGE MOVES IN NETWORK TELEVISION HISTORY BY THE WAY, MORE ON THAT BELOW - to work on some of his other projects

It was a very sad day for me but that does unfortunately happen in show business! There was absolutely some tension between Robbie and TPTB at the time, AS EVIDENCED BY HIS SAVAGE FUCKING EXIT, but I can’t speak to whether that was really a contributing factor in his decision to leave. But I like to think that it was, for the #drama of it all.

Explanation on Robbie’s SPN career and final episode, plus why I’m willing to die for him, can be found below:

Your Awards

Pairing: Evan Peters x Reader

Description: One day, you see something crazy on tv leading to cuddles with your favorite superhero.

Warnings: Fluff. So much fluff. Also adorably clumsy Evan. Also insecure Evan?

Your boyfriend flew into the room with a wild expression and hair sticking in different directions. “ARE YOU OK? ARE YOU HURT? WHAT IS HAPPENING?” Evan panted as he checked you over, making sure you were alright. “I’m fine you idiot. Look at the tv.”

You happened to be flipping through channels when your boyfriends name read across the screen.

“..and the nominees can be viewed on” You dove for your laptop, threw open the cover and furiously began typing.

“Babe, what’s going on?” Evan was thoroughly confused by the way you were acting. “SHH!” You finished typing and started to busy yourself with clicks and scrolls. You seemed to find what you were looking for and practically threw the laptop in poor Evan’s face.

“Look! Look! Oh my gosh, look!!” Evan caught the computer midair and scrutinized the view that was presented on the screen. The page read, ‘MTV Movie Awards. Best Comedic Performance Nominees.’ “No. You’re messing with me.” You laughed at Evan’s expression. “This is all very serious Ev. Oh and go back a page.”

He did as told and it basically said the same but with Action Performance. “TWO?! Holy crap!” “Babe this is so huge for you. Being nominated for two big awards? SO PROUD!!”

Evan suddenly became quiet. He looked at you with an unreadable expression. Extremely confused and a little worried, you asked, “what’s eating you, babe?”

He slowly set the laptop down and stepped over to where you were sitting on the couch. “You,” he said.

“Me?” you asked. “You. These are your awards.”

By now you were very worried and reached to check his temperature. He was probably just overexcited.

“Babe. I don’t believe you’re thinking straight. What’s up?” “This is your award. You’re the one who got me out of bed every morning even if I was being an arse about it. You made sure I was fed and hydrated so I could function at work. You supported me every night I felt I wasn’t doing Peter justice. You were.. are my rock. I wouldn’t even have got the audition if you hadn’t pushed me to. So yeah, these are your awards.”

The room fell into a calm aura, setting your emotions skyrocketing. “Sure I helped you, but that’s just it. I helped. Who’s the one who read scripts until three in the morning making sure he wouldn’t screw up his lines? Who went to the gym even though he hated it there so his character would look the part? Who acted the same scene for sixteen plus hours one day and was just as excited to do the same thing the next day? That was all you, baby. So if you want to call the awards partially mine, I’ll let you, but they are yours and you did everything to deserve them. You are a great actor and your coworkers tell me they’ve learned a lot from you. I’m so proud, baby. I’m so proud.”

Evan was practically in tears now. He always questioned his acting ability yet you always could reassure him. He could never tell you how thankful he was for you. He just couldn’t do it without you by his side. Someday he’d ask you to be with him forever. Just not yet.

“Thank you, baby girl. I love you so much.” “I love you too my Quicksilver.”

That day ended in cuddles watching his X-Men movies.

Rebecca's Guide to Starting Star Trek

Holy Representation, Batman! You may have just heard that Star Trek Discovery is happening and it has a black woman as the lead, and Asian woman as the captain, and a confirmed interracial/interspecies gay couple, and you’re gunna watch!

Perhaps you want to start Star Trek now, but shit, there’s 13 movies, seven separate tv shows, all ranging somewhere between 3-7 seasons of 45 min episodes, plus there’s all those comics and novels.

First of all, if you don’t want to do anything other than Discovery, THAT IS 1701% OK. DO NOT LET GATE KEEPING BULLSHIT KEEP YOU FROM ENJOYING THINGS.

But if you do want to start, here’s my recommendations. Other people may have their opinions, but here’s mine.

Start with the movies, sorta. It’s much easier to get through all the movies than all the seasons. But, I say sorta, because don’t actually watch Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The first movie is just, well, it’s not great, and there isn’t enough plot to justify sitting through it. One day, for kicks and giggles, go back and watch, but for now, leave it alone.

What you’re gunna do is replace the first Star Trek movie with a few episodes of The Original Series (TOS).

You’re gunna do:

Space Speed (Season 1, ep 22)

City on the Edge of Forever (season 1, ep 28)

Amok Time (Season 2, ep 1)

Journey to Babel (Season 2, ep 10)

If you wanna toss one out to get to the movies faster, City on the Edge of Forever isn’t like, super plot important, but it’s generally considered one of the best episodes of all the series, and I think it’s really good for understanding characterization.

You’re gunna watch 2-6, and then I’d recommend pausing. You can just keep going, but I’m gunna suggest a few The Next Generation (TNG) episodes first before you move onto movies 7-10.

Q Who (Season 2, ep 16)

Best of Both Worlds part 1&2 (Season 3, ep 26, Season 4, ep 1)

Chain of Command part 1&2 (Season 6, ep 10-11)

The last one is similar to The City on The Edge of Forever. I think one more is best for understanding the characters moving forward, and this is a great ep for that, also it does my favorite Star Trek thing, which is discuss reverent political issues (use of torture in this case) while also getting you acquainted with the Cardassians, who will be around more in Deep Space Nine (DS9). But if you’re eager to get back to the movies, go ahead with the rest of the movies.

Movies 7-10 are all with the TNG cast, and then 11-13 are all the alternate Kelvin timeline (AOS).

Woo! At this point, you should feel much more aquatinted with this universe.

Now if you still want to watch more of the TV series, honestly, this may be controversial, but you can just watch whichever one strikes your fancy. The stories usually hold on their own, and one crew my be more interesting to you than another.

The Original Series and The Animated Series are the same crew, just one is animated.

From having watched the movies, you should have already met The Next Generation crew and should be able to tell if you want to see more of their adventures.

Deep Space Nine is not actually about a ship, but rather a base. This is the first time the captain was not a white man. Benjamin Cisco is played by Avery Brooks, a black man. Also, his first officer is a Bajoran (an alien) woman. This one also had the closest to the occasional LGBT+ rep with Jadzia Dax, an alien that is gender fluid and changes gender based on their host. It’s not perfect, but it’s at least not the regular cisgender heteronormative character we’re used to. Both Worf and O'Brein from TNG are in this series.

Voyager is about a ship that gets put 75 years away from Federation space and is about their adventures on their journey home. This features the first female captain, played by Kate Mulgrew from Orange is the New Black. It also has a Native American first officer, and a black Vulcan (not the first ever seen, but the first one as a main character), a half Klingon/human woman as the engineer, and later on in season 4, a former Borg assimilated woman. There’s even more than I’ve mentioned here actually, diversity wise. Other than Discovery, this is easily their most multicultural Bridge.

Enterprise is a prequel series that follows the crew of the Enterprise 100 years before Kirk took command. It’s, much less diverse to be honest. There’s a lot I like about it, and tbh I’m always a little Gay for T'Pol (Vulcan Sub-commander) but there’s a lot of white dudes, so if you’re looking for diversity, this…. may not be your jam.

Later, I’ll do a follow up post that has abridged recommendations for each series, because if I’m being totally honest, there’s really some episodes you can skip.

For now, this is my starting point for everyone.

Character Design is an important part of any movie, but few use it to map out character design as well as Howl’s Moving Castle

Some stuff foreigners might not get about the Korean K-drama experience:

  • Korea is a geographically small country, and a lot of kdramas take place in the same major cities. If you live in one of these major cities, chances are you a) heard about where they were filming and can actually go watch, or b) are watching the drama and going “oh hey, I was there last week.”

  • Timeslot wars get intense because SBS, KBS, and MBC are constantly fighting for viewership, but then TVN has been making some pretty darn good cable dramas lately

  • If you pick the wrong drama to watch at the beginning of the season, you’re going to miss out on basically all the references to the ‘dominant drama’ in all the variety shows and in real life until you finally make time to catch up to the undisputed winner of the season

  • If a drama gets super popular, there’s that sense of dread of “oh no, all the commercials are going to be by these drama characters now, I will never escape”

  • If a show gets popular enough, yeah, it’s not just the actors - the characters might do the commercial. The first one that comes to mind is the Olleh ‘really?!’ campaign from 2013 with I Can Hear Your Voice

  • This isn’t mentioning how you will never escape their face for the rest of the year. Every commercial. They’ll become the face of a pizza franchise and you will never escape them eating pizza for the next 12 months.

Life Begets Life: Arrow 5x23 Review (Lian Yu)

“Lian Yu” a summary:

I love the journey we take on stories.  I particularly love the journey we take with television. There’s really no medium like this. The experience is over in a couple hours with a movie.  We can control how quickly we read a book (even if we have to wait for additional sequels). But television? Television is a week to week story that spans years. Or at least it is if you watch live from start to finish. Television can be a long and arduous journey. Full of ups and downs. Great episodes and horribly bad ones.  We walk the road with the characters in real time. It’s a serious time investment and the hope is the story eventually connects. That the threads the writers weave come together in the end and we can see the full picture.  "Lian Yu" is one of those rare storytelling gifts that repays all the many years of patience.

We started this journey with Oliver Queen five years ago. We have walked each step with him. We’ve rejoiced with Oliver in his moments of triumph.

We’ve grieved with him.

We threw things at him with every maddening step backward.

Step by step, we’ve watched Oliver come back to life.

It hurt and he fought it for a long time, but slowly Oliver began to learn how to live again. Instead of shutting himself off, he chose to build a life filled with purpose

and love.

He’s clawed his way out of the dark and into the light that was always there, deep inside.

It was all leading somewhere. A destination, a choice, Oliver had to make. No matter how far Oliver has come there is always a piece of him that remains on the island… and on the boat.  Oliver had to return to Lian Yu, one last time, so he could finally let it go. So he could finally come home.

A hero’s story is fraught with triumph and tragedy. There is both in “Lian Yu.” The great tragedy is once Oliver decides who he is, and is ready for all that entails, he’s faced with an impossible choice and loses what he’s spent years building.

Or did he? Adrian Chase is the master chess player. He was always ten moves ahead, even in the final moments, but perhaps there was a move Chase couldn’t foresee. One Oliver set in motion years ago, in a moment where he clung to the light and held to Diggle and Felicity’s faith in him. A moment where Oliver kept a promise.

Let’s dig in…

“You taste like coffee” - Tim Drake x Reader

Because there isn’t enough love for our lovely Red Robin. Besides, many of you asked for more Tim Drake so, here’s a fluffy fic with him, hope you’ll like it

My masterlist blog :

Once again, he’s late.

It used to bother you how he would NEVER be on time, and invent stupid excuses when he’d finally arrive. At the beginning of your relationship, you actually almost broke up with him because of that…You thought you just didn’t matter enough to him, and you were not one to play game.

When you were with someone, then there was no one else and you were committed, and it seems that he definitely wasn’t ! When you talked to him about it, he kinda panicked and told you things that no one ever told you (« You’re the best thing that ever happened to me, the only one that keep me sane ! » and such things), his eyes so honest that you could only believe him and…You stayed.

And oh man, you were sure glad you did. You stuck around, even though his tardiness was really getting on your nerve, and it was the best decision you ever took.

Because after three months of relationship, you finally discovered why it seemed to be impossible for him to be on time.

You were walking home late at night, which was a terrible idea when you lived in Gotham, but you got caught up in the school library, working on some important essays you had to give the next day (you and your habit to always wait the last minute to do things…Queen of Procrastination). You had missed the last bus that could get you to your apartment and you knew the night bus was even more dangerous than walking, with all the robberies and drug deal (it was just the perfect place for those stuffs you know ? Always in movements, and there were so few night buses that traffic was easy to keep track of for criminals…And to be warned in advance if the GCPD was around).

So here you were, in the streets of Gotham, very late at night. For some reason, you weren’t really scared. Not because you thought you’d get saved by any members of the « Batfamily » as you liked to call all of those night vigilante lurking around in the city, but because..Well, you were born in Gotham.

And when you were a true gothamite, born and raised, you were used to the latent comes and insecurities of the place. Besides, it was when you where scared that things always got bad. If you walked through the streets, fast but not too much, with a confident pace, you were most likely not gonna get attacked.

Lowlife criminals who attacked people in the street weren’t really tough, they were waiting for a weak prey, so if you looked confident ? Nope.

You were a short woman, but you weren’t afraid, and people who weren’t afraid in Gotham were dangerous. You had walked a thousands times home on your own, at night, and never once did you get attacked.

But there were always exceptions, you guessed…and tonight was one of them.

They jumped you from a side alleyway, and dragged you down into its darkness, muffling your screams with their hands. Oh. They weren’t just any lowlife criminals. They were the worst of them all.

Those weren’t the people that were after your phone, or your wallet. No. Those were the one that wanted something else, that were just disgusting pigs.

You fought like Hell, but they were more powerful than you, and besides, you were largely outnumbered.

Tears appeared down your cheeks when you started to feel their hands on your naked skin, and you closed your eyes…When suddenly, you fell on the ground as they released you.

Were you dead ? No. You could still feel the cold ground of a chilly Autumn night in Gotham…Or maybe that was what the Afterlife was ? Being stuck in the place you died forever ?

You opened one eyed, and then the other, and what you saw…blew your mind.

It was one of the guy that always stuck around Batman. The one that had a black mask over his face, and wicked cool red wings.

And looking at him fight made you feel something strange. His movements looked familiar, as if you knew the dude. But…it was impossible right ?

One of the thing that made Tim fall in love with you, was your quick wit and quick thinking, and as you were watching « Red Robin » fighting those disgusting thugs that attacked you, you slowly came to the realization that…this was your boyfriend.

Stevie’s favorite things

I have received a request to post Stevie’s favorite things (”music, books, food, poets and all things beyond, far and in between”), so I gathered some things from several interviews and Q&As.

I feel that I have to add some sort of disclaimer though - This list could never be a thorough look into Stevie’s likes as she’s a very private person (as she should be!) and I’m far from being an expert. All the things listed here were mentioned publicly and I have no intention of intruding or disrespecting. I hope you enjoy it, and if you think of things I’ve left out, please drop me a line.

▬ Music

It’s almost impossible to gather all the artists, bands, and songs Stevie has cited as favorites in just one place… Nothing I post will do justice to her love of music. “I have a love of music that goes far beyond what I do onstage.” (, 2017)

 • ”Tom Petty is my favorite rock star.“ (BST Hyde Park Festival, 2017)

•  "If you could do a duet with anyone in the world, with whom would it be?” “I would say James Taylor.” (Facebook Q&A, 2014)

• “So I got got the flamboyancy and the attitude from Janis and then I got the humbleness and the grace from Jimi Hendrix. And then one other thing, I got a little bit of slinky from Grace Slick.(South by Southwest Music Festival, 2013)

•"I have striven to live up to the songwriting of Don Henley and Glenn Frey, Jackson Browne and Joni Mitchell.“ (1981)

• “If I can sit down and be going through a crisis and I can listen to Joni Mitchell or something and I can feel from her that she understands, even though she doesn’t know me, then, for me… I love that, and that’s what I try to do.” (1976)

Here’s just a little of what she has mentioned over the decades: Her Grandad, Leon Russell, The Everly Brothers,  Led Zeppelin, Eagles, Buffalo Springfield, Foo Fighters, Vanessa Carlton, Haim, and so many more. Click here for a playlist containing 73 songs Stevie has mentioned during interviews.

▬ Poets

“Do you have any poets you enjoy?”
Yes, Oscar Wilde and Edgar Allan Poe.” (Q&A,

I think that poets and songwriters have a lot in common because a songwriter really has to be a poet first. That’s how we live our lives. It’s the same kind of thinking. Unlike people who write fiction or make movies, we put our stories into these small little containers filled with mostly short lines and verses. This is how we talk about the way we feel and talk about things and explain the world and ourselves.” (The Creative Independent, 2016)

The Mabinogion Trilogy - Evangeline Walton

These four fantasy-fiction books by American author Evangeline Walton (The Prince of Annwn, The Children of Llyr, The Song of Rhiannon and The Island of The Mighty) are based on traditional Welsh myths. Someone sent them to me back in 1978 because I’d written a song called Rhiannon 5 years earlier. Walton started her work around 1934 and finished in 1974, which was right around the time that I wrote Rhiannon, so I felt like when her work ended, mine began.

• Wide Sargasso Sea - Jean Rhys

Wide Sargasso Sea is inspired by Bronte’s classic Jane Eyre. The novel explores the life of Mrs Rochester, ‘the wild woman in the attic’, in 1830s Jamaica before she was brought to England by Mr Rochester. Jean Rhys wrote this book as a precursor to Jane Eyre because of her love for the Bronte novel. I saw the film adaptation of the book in the early 1990s and it inspired me to write the song of the same name on my album.

• Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte

I first read Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights (written by Charlotte’s sister Emily Bronte) when I was in college in California in the late 1960s. They are two of my favourite books because they’re just so brilliantly written. The beauty of both these classics is that they were fantastic when I was a teenager and they still appeal to me now as a 63-year-old woman.”

• The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe

“I’ve read all of Poe’s poetry as well as Lord Byron’s and Oscar Wilde’s. He is deep and brooding - you can make many songs from his poems. I like Byron for the same reason - his characters are dark and intense like Lindsey. Oscar Wilde’s work is more flamboyant, but he was a really good storyteller.”

Out of Africa - Karen Blixen

“This memoir recounts the time Karen Blixen (a Danish author) spent in Kenya from 1914. When I saw the 1985 movie version with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford, it just killed me and inspired me to read the book. Both make me sob so much I can hardly breathe. Later, my assistant gave me a beautiful old copy, which makes me treasure the story more. I even stayed in the Karen Blixen suite at the Hotel D'Angleterre in her native Copenhagen. The relationship between Blixten and the Safari hunter Denys Finch Hatton broke my heart. It’s a book about finding and losing love.”

The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I first discovered The Little Prince when I was in high school and fell in love with the book straight away. My make-up artist has a tattoo of the Little Prince on the side of her leg, so I’m often reminded of what a beautiful story it is. It’s a sweet fable about the relationship between a little boy and his love for a rose. There is such a strong philosophy of love and loneliness running throughout the book that I can’t help but return to it again and again.”

The Twilight Series - Stephenie Meyer

Moonlight (A Vampire’s Dream), a song on my new album was written about New Moon. The song is about what happens when a relationship breaks down or, more specifically, when you are abandoned in some way. I could totally relate to that. I think that Meyer’s stories are magnificent and I’m amazed at how she built her complex world. Writing a song seems much simpler that writing a novel - a song is just five verses and a chorus! I think the love story between Edward and Bella is going to live on forever, like Beauty and the Beast.

• “Right now I am reading ‘Wheel of Fortune’ by Susan Howatch.” (Q&A,, 2000s)

• “On the bookshelves are volumes about the Kabbalah, Madame Blavatsky and Arthurian legend; a copy of The Johns Hopkins Consumer Guide to Drugs sits beside Luxury Hotels of the World.” (Stevie Nicks: a survivor’s story,, 2007)

• “She is gurgling scales along with a recording of her vocal coach while flipping through a new memoir by Janis Joplin’s road manager. ”Look,“ Nicks says, perking up, “I knew Janis wore sling-back heels.” (Rolling Stone, 2015)

• Mentioned: Jean Cocteau’s “La Belle et la Bête”, “Mary, Queen of Scots”, “Julia”.

• Stevie’s favorite horror movie is “The Haunting of Hill House”, however… “Nicks has very little experience with horror: she’s seen only a handful of old horror movies, like “Bride of Dracula”. “They don’t scare me,” she says. “I just love the costumes.” - (AHS:Coven interview, 2014)

• “I can see a movie—say, it’s a movie with Michael Fassbender called “The Light Between Oceans”—and I can’t get this movie out of my head. The tragedy of this movie is so intense and so beautiful you can hardly stand it and you go home and think about it for days afterwards.” (The Creative Independent, 2016)

▬ TV Shows

• “I worked on the edit of my documentary about the making of In Your Dreams. And then I got pneumonia. With my pneumonia and my mother’s death I watched the entire first season of Game Of Thrones—so that was great! That certainly took my mind off everything.” Not only did the series distract the Grammy winner, but it re-ignited her creativity, inspiring her to write some G.O.T.-centric fan poems. Explains Nicks, “I’ve written a bunch of poetry about it—one for each of the characters. On Jon Snow… On Arya…. On Cersei and Jaime.” She also says that she has a talent crush on the author of the Game of Thrones book series, George R. R. Martin, who is her age, and “would love to write some music” for the show. (VanityFair, 2013)

• Among the TV shows she loves, besides American Horror Story and Million Dollar Listing, are The Good Wife, Ugly Betty, Glee, Elementary (“That guy [Jonny Lee Miller] who used to be married to Angelia Jolie, oh my God, he’s amazing. I’d marry him. In a second”), and “all of the creepy shows,” like the Law and Order franchises, Criminal Minds, NCIS, and NCIS: L.A. (Vulture, 2014)

• “Judging Amy is my favorite!” (Q&A,

I ate with Stevie… You have two girls with a sweet tooth, it’s like carnage.” (Chrissie Hynde, talking about Thanksgiving with Stevie, November, 2016)

I am always on the Weight Watchers diet. I kind of eat food that is fixed for me all over the US. I don’t really get to eat my favorite foods, like vanilla bean ice cream, gelato, cherry pie, and lemon cake, and chocolate chip cookies. I’d love to have them every day, but I don’t. I have to zip back into that long, black, seriously tight dress! (Facebook Q&A, 2014)

“I eat one yogurt every single night right before I go to bed. It’s my, like, special time.”

Mexican is my favorite, but I don’t eat it very often. I can make a GREAT omelet!“ (Q&A,

It’s so interesting – when my mother was pregnant with me, the only thing she could keep down was enchiladas and refried beans. As for me, whenever I’m sick, the only thing I can tolerate is Mexican food! So the fact that they actually pulled that out of the air was so great. Because if I was ever going to have a restaurant that’s what it would be."

"Stevie really doesn’t have alot of time to cook… but if we can get her to, she makes one heck of a sandwich!! (It’s all about the sauces she makes…) (Ask Lori [Nicks],

"I just eat the airline food, but I always get a Starbucks soy latte before boarding.”

"Stevie is an iced tea kind of gal.” (Q&A, Cory Buckingham, 2003)

I like antiques, I love old things. I must be very old underneath because I love beautiful old things. I love dancing. I love most of all writing songs. I love animals!“ (1977)

I absolutely still draw. I have 4 drawings out here with me right now. Drawing for me is like a tranquilizer. It puts me into another state of mind and takes me out of the Rock N’ Roll mind and puts me into that drawing I’m working on. I can just sit and draw for hours and hours. It is food for my soul. Someday I will put our my art, just as I have begun putting out my polaroids.“ (Facebook Q&A, 2014)

Painting in my room that looks over the ocean. That is my favorite thing.“ (Q&A,

"I like to decorate! I like to go decorating shopping at furniture stores. I’m constantly changing around the rooms in my house, so that’s something I really love to do. You’ll be at my house one day, and 2 weeks later, you’ll come in and it’ll be different.” (Facebook Q&A, 2014)

“Nicks moves among the collection of colourful Art Deco lamps that stand on every surface, carefully orchestrating the ambient light. ’That’s the famous blue lamp that’s been in lots of photos; that’s a Tiffany,’ she says. ’And so is that one. I don’t know about the others.’ (Stevie Nicks: a survivor’s story,, 2007)

Hawaii, Paris, New Zeland.”
I would have to say it is New York City. There is so much energy in the city, and so much to do there. It is a very exciting city for me.”  (Favorite destinations, Q&A,

Stevie actually goes out a lot. In every city she goes shopping and out for dinner, at the least.” (Q&A, Cory Buckingham, 2003)

Stevie also shops a lot, and in perfect female form, jewelry shopping tops her list. She loves it when a group of people, maybe 8 or more, get together for dinner. She can sit and chat and laugh for hours on end. Literally. Although I didn’t travel with the band, and we were very rarely in the same cities, I do know that Stevie goes out a lot on days off. She loves shopping, whether it be for something she actually needs or wants, or just strolling around window shopping. She and her posse go out to dinner a lot, and also spends time writing and taking pictures. She really a lot of fun.”  (Q&A, Cory Buckingham, 2003)

“You want your journals written by hand in a book, because someday, if you have daughters — I don’t have daughters, but I have fairy goddaughters, thousands of them — all of these books are gonna go to them, and they’re gonna sit around just like we are now, and they’re gonna read them out loud, and they’re going to be able to know what my life was.” (New York Times, 2014)

And finally one of the passions I believe many of us fans share with her:

Yorkies are my favorites because they have such amazing personalities.” (Q&A,

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Just saw King Arthur and the theater was practically EMPTY???!!? Wtf!??!!?!!! This movie was so good you guys, and it’s being torn apart by critics because the lore doesn’t 100% match? *screams frustrations into void* Guy Ritchie took a legend that has been told over and over again for what feels like forever (and let’s be real, it’s been retold so much cause it’s a damn good legend) and put his own unique twist on it.

Personally, I was not going into this movie expecting a word for word reenactment of Thomas Malory’s Le Morte D’Arthur or even T.H. White’s The Once and Future King. The trailer made it very clear that KA: LotS was going to have a different take on the story. And it was gooooood. Omg! This film was like if Lord of the Rings met Kingsman.

Here are some of my favorite things about King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
• The war elephants were just as fantastic and terrifying as I wanted them to be and more!

• The AWE-INDUCING AF Lady of the Lake *heart-eyes*

• The absolutely mesmerizing Sirens (like holy fuck I couldn’t look away they were SO COOL)

• Arthur growing up protecting/respecting women, not because he feels he’s a ~strong man~ who saves ~weak damsels~ and expects a reward for his actions but because he is genuinely sickened by men who disrespect women. Because he was raised by women and *gasp* sees them as *GASP!* people?? Revolutionary.

• How the sword got stuck in the stone!!!! So cool, what a concept, I love it!

• The ANIMALS and the Mage working with nature and all the imagery and the SNAKES!!!

• I legit cried when the Round Table was revealed like holy shit yeessssss.

• Excalibur is a literal powerhouse and we finally get see what it can do!

• The acting was top notch! (Jude Law gave me chills as King Vortigern)

• The soundtrack fed my SOUL hell yes!!!! So good.

• The fight choreography, with an *appropriate* use of slow-mo, gave me life!

• The story telling!!! Like, yes Guy Ritchie’s way of telling the story of King Arthur is amazing but I’m talking about the particular way the *characters* told stories *in the movie* like w.h.o.a. So awesome!!

• The cinematography! I couldn’t go two seconds without coming across a shot that I NEED as my TV and Computer background.

• The special effects. Have I talked about the animals and the MAGE AND THE LADY OF THE LAKE AND THE SIRENS AND EXCALIBUR AND THE COLORS AAAAHHHHHHHH

• The story line. Honestly, screw the critics for giving this film a bad review just because it didn’t stick the legend. IT WASN’T SUPPOSED TO! They took the Legend of King Arthur and built off it to tell their own story and it was sooo gooodd!!

• The camera work!!! Omg the camera work!!! Hot damn.

I will say that I was disappointed in how the film fell into the trope of hurting and killing women as a means to motivate the male lead. That wasn’t cool. It has literally everything else going for it, but they tripped up here. This motivation device is used too often in all forms of media, and honestly I’m sick of it.

But! That was the only flaw I could find after one viewing, and the rest of the movie was phenomenal.
Please go see this movie!

Okay real quick! There’s something else about this movie that I LOVED SO MUCH but I’m not sure if it is considered a spoiler. It’s a bit more specific than the bullet points so to be safe, I’ve put it under the cut here.

  • when you walk into the school-sponsored off-campus apartments and head towards your assigned apartment, you don’t expect to see an extremely handsome black-haired boy already lounging around on the couch
  • as the door swings open and you roll your luggage into the apartment, the boy perks up and turns off the tv
  • “hey! you must be my roommate. i didn’t know they were doing co-ed, but i swear i’m a chill guy”

  • so all you manage out is a shy smile and a flustered introduction before you just scurry off into your room
  • “i’m seongwoo, by the way! you can call me ong! not hong or gong, ong!!” you can hear laughter and amusement in his voice but you can’t help but find amusement in his introduction as well

  • life with seongwoo is gets comfortable
  • he’s funny and you two are pretty close– it’s not uncommon for you two to go on platonic restaurant dates and you two tend to drag each other around to the mall or anywhere else. movie nights on fridays become a usual thing and sometimes, there’s a pillow fort or he throws his arm over your shoulder while throwing popcorn into his mouth
  • you two don’t see each other at school around a lot though since you’re in a whooooole different building than his is
  • you’re a law student and he’s a theater student, so

  • every time he sees your tattoo, he can’t help but hide a bitter smile because there’s no name on his neck, but he hoped that somehow his name would be on yours, not someone else’s)
  • when seongwoo tells you that his best friend daniel invited him to dinner with his girlfriend and begs you to be his date, you roll your eyes but nonetheless set aside the case you’ve been working on for hours deciding you needed a god damn break

  • your hand flies to the back of your neck as if applying pressure will help to ease the pain
  • seongwoo looks at you peculiarly, asking if you’re okay, and you just excuse yourself to the bathroom before daniel and sana arrive to the table
  • you wait at least five minutes for the pain to pass and when you return to the table, you apologize to the other couple
  • “i already ordered for you. the usual and your favorite smoothie, okay?” seongwoo’s still concerned as he looks into your eyes, but you smile and thank him
  • you dismiss all of it as extraneous stress and smile your way through the dinner, trying to enjoy your meal that seongwoo had chosen well
  • but when your neck spikes with pain every time you even look at daniel, you piece things together as the smart and logical law student you are
  • daniel, formerly known as kang euigeon in your past lives, was your soulmate
  • the dinner ends and you hug sana goodbye while shaking hands with daniel, and when you two do touch, it’s uncomfortable for the both of you but your knees weaken and seongwoo has to catch you
  • “sorry, i guess i’m just feeling woozy from all the studying. law school’s getting pretty intense”
  • daniel just smiles and sana furrows her eyebrows, worriedly telling you to get lots of rest
  • as they walk away, you can see their matching soulmate tattoos– kang daniel and sana minatozaki
  • time has left you behind, it seems
  • you get home to your apartment though, you damn near collapse as soon as you’re through the door
  • thankfully seongwoo catches you but he’s freaking out now because you weren’t even this bad during finals and law finals were damn stressful
  • he carries you into your bedroom as you’re barely awake and it’s as he lays you down that he realizes
  • the scarring on the back of your neck in which the soulmate mark tattoo has faded into a bulging red scar
  • “y-your soulmate tattoo–”
  • “my soulmate is daniel. was daniel” you say weakly, barely processing the flash of memories that you had when your hand had touched his
  • you’ve heard of cases like these where soulmates had been switched around and you knew that those who suffered from it experienced heavy heartache and were often hospitalized for it

  • however, you’ve never heard of a case as cruel as yours were you were lead to believe that you still had a soulmate
  • most cases either were reassigned a new one at birth like their soulmate was or were just born without one
  • no tears spring from your eyes because you can’t seem to mourn a man that you don’t love (in this lifetime, at least), but there’s this ache in your heart and you know that this loss of a soulmate is going to affect you forever
  • eventually, upon the realization that you’d be forever alone with no soulmate to love and no family to raise, you do start to cry, and seongwoo just holds you throughout the night

  • the next day you wake up to seongwoo having gone to his classes and a text from an unknown number that reads ‘can we talk?
  • you sigh figuring daniel probably got your number from your polisci’s group chat and put your phone down because honestly? you don’t want to talk
  • it wasn’t going to go anywhere– you’d remain without a soulmate and daniel would remain with sana
  • fate has spoken and the tattoos on both of their napes– and your scarred tissue you used to call a soulmate tattoo– had confirmed it
  • your phone buzzes again with a ‘please
  • but you just send a quick text ‘if you’re worried about me, i’m fine. there’s no other way that this is going to go since you’re happy with sana and i don’t want to get in the way of that. please just leave me alone, i don’t need a literal pain in my neck every time i see you.
  • your text is read immediately and you watched with glazed eyes as the three dots signaling his typing continues to reappear and disappear
  • you leave your phone by the bedside table when the process repeats for a whole two minutes and start your day, thanking the fact that you didn’t have polisci with daniel today

  • as a month goes by, you realize that seongwoo’s spending a lot more time with you
  • maybe it’s pity or not (it’s not, seongwoo’s just really concerned because he’s in fucking love with you but he can’t do jackshit about it) but you don’t question it
  • it’s been the fourth time in a row that he’s come home early on his usual saturday night out with the boys (you try to ignore the fact that daniel is a part of said group of boys) and this time, he comes home to you watching howl’s moving castle
  • he carries two tubs of ice cream– cookies and cream for the both of you, your favorites– and his jaw gapes at you in disbelief
  • “you’re watching studio ghibli without me? what happened to OUR movie nights?!”
  • you roll your eyes and gather your legs against your chest to make space for him on the couch, and with a grumpy pout, he stomps over and plops himself next you, motioning for you to put your legs over him
  • instead, you reposition yourself so that you’re sitting next to him and grab one of the tubs of ice cream and a plastic spoon from him before digging in
  • “wow, the stories are true. heartbroken girls really do love their ice cream”
  • that earns him a glare and a swat on the shoulder before you turn back to the tv
  • seongwoo just laughs and half-heartedly apologizes as he opens up his own tub of ice cream and throws an arm over your shoulders
  • as the movie comes to a close that night, you turn your head and look to seongwoo
  • “hey, what’s your soulmate’s name?”
  • seongwoo tenses visibly, but he nonchalantly raises an eyebrow at you
  • “we’ve lived together for nearly a year but you never noticed the nape of my neck?”
  • you sheepishly shake your head and then he shrugs
  • “i don’t got one”
  • “… oh” unconsciously you begin to rub the nape of your neck where the scarred tissue has nearly faded, because you were pretty much over daniel. it didn’t hurt to meet eyes with him anymore at polisci, you just had difficulty swallowing the fact that you had no soulmate
  • “maybe you can be my soulmate, because fuck the system” he has a shit-eating grin on his face that signifies he’s joking so you pass it off despite the blush on your cheeks and shove a spoonful of ice cream into his mouth
  • “let’s watch ponyo now”
  • “i have a friend that looks like ponyo”
  • “i know, he’s really cute, do you know if he has a soulmate?”
  • “WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME AS A SOULMATE?!” you shove another spoonful of ice cream into his mouth and start the movie
  • whoever lost out on seongwoo being their soulmate was an unlucky person

  • the next morning you wake up on seongwoo’s lap and scramble to get up
  • one of his arms are loosely draped over you while the other draped against the back of the couch, and he was slouched in his own slumber
  • you ignore how hot your face feels as you scramble to the kitchen to make breakfast, ready to pretend that that never happened
  • the scarlet is still present on your cheeks as you tie up your hair and start blending up a bunch of frozen fruits
  • you don’t think to realize that the blender would wake up seongwoo and the boy comes into the kitchen rubbing his eyes as you top off the two smoothie bowls
  • “you can’t just make mine look ugly like that while yours looks like its going on instagram”
  • “because mine is going on instagram”
  • “okay make mine instagram worthy too then so ours can both go on instagram!!”
  • you roll your eyes again, forgetting the situation that you had woken up in earlier and turn around to work on the smoothie bowls, redecorating seongwoo’s and fixing the way that you had thrown the fruits on top of his
  • “…. hey…… why is my name on your neck…..” seongwoo stammers out and you drop the banana you’re slicing into seongwoo’s smoothie bowl
  • seongwoo turns around and indeed, your name is on his neck just as he claims his name is on yours
  • “do you think there was a glitch in the system….” you murmur questioningly
  • “nah i think i just control fate like, i literally said this last night and now it came true”
  • you smack his arm again and march out of the kitchen with your smoothie bowl
  • you blush scarlet and walk out of the kitchen faster, denying how quickly your heart was beating and how red your cheeks were again
  • you slam the door of your room shut in fluster and you realize with a smile on your face that
  • maybe the reason your ass wasn’t hospitalized the night you met daniel was because your real soulmate seongwoo stayed beside you the whole night

You paid for the right size robe but because you arrived a little later than everyone else, they only had robes three times bigger than your size available. You moaned and groaned but had no other choice but to accept it.

So in light of what happened on Critical Role last night, I want to talk about a couple of things trope wise. Spoilers ahead so if you aren’t caught up, be wary!!

For this, I want to focus more specifically on the NPCs. Throughout the show, there have been several NPCs that have been LGBT+ in some way or another. Kima, Allura, J”mon, Gilmore, Artagan, all amazing characters who are all not straight or not cis in canon. It’s not a fan-bait play-and-switch, it is real, undeniable canon. They are all very powerful and very visible characters who have had major impact on the story and the PCs throughout the course of the game.

Now in any aired television show, we might get one of these characters and they very much would not have gotten half of the character development that these NPCs have gotten on Critical Role. Very likely, they also would’ve died in some tragic way very quickly. The ‘Bury Your Gays’ trope is more alive than any LGBT+ character in mainstream media.

A lot of people complain about any criticism of BYG because they say that it is only realistic for LGBT+ characters to be in the same amount of danger as anyone else and that it should be expected for them to die from time to time. Which, if that were how things actually played out, would not be such a bad thing. HOWEVER. LGBT+ characters are not in the same amount of danger as straight or cis characters. They are in far greater danger.

Writers will claim that if they can’t kill off LGBT+ characters, then there’s never any real danger to them being in a situation and you won’t ever be drawn into it. Not to mention, many writers will put a LGBT+ character into a show to get a pat on the back for being so inclusive, and then promptly kill that character off. They want the brownie points having an LGBT+ character gets them, but they don’t actually want that character in their show.

And then you have Matthew Mercer. Glorious, glorious, Matthew Mercer.

Since the beginning of the stream, there have been LGBT+ characters on the show. And the fantastic thing is, and one of the many reasons I continued to watch the show, is that you know all of these characters. You know something about their backstory and where they came from and the struggles they’ve faced. Even though they aren’t main characters, they are fleshed out and very much a part of the story, critical in many cases even.

Mercer has also, in my opinion, gone to great pains to avoid “Bury Your Gays’. The characters are in very real danger where they could die, but they are never put in inescapable situations and then killed off to further the emotional development of the PCs. Some of them have come very close to dying and might have died if VM had taken a slightly different path, but it was never a shoehorned ‘you could’ve never prevented it’ situation.

What Matt does, and what every writer everywhere should take note of, is that he doesn’t make any situation unsolvable or impossible. Different courses of action have different consequences. Because VM stayed in the Feywild longer than planned, Vecna was able to get to the people they cared about the most. Gilmore, Kaylie, and Cassandra could have all permanently died (I’ve never been more grateful for a nat1 by the way lol) but they didn’t because they players and the characters have that free agency to be able to react as things happen and to be smart and clever. Matt has never made the life/death choice for a character, it has always been the players and their actions/decisions. He lets them be clever and reactionary and he lets them solve problems as they are presented.

As a trans, pansexual person, I cannot begin to express the amount of relief I have felt when my favorite NPCs have continued to live. Because in practically any other show, Kima might have died in the Underdark or drowned with Allura after fighting Raishan. Allura would’ve been the victim of a political power grab on the Tal’dorei council or would’ve died when the Conclave knocked down her tower. Gilmore would’ve died in the first Chroma Conclave attack or in the final battle with Thordak or killed by Hotis. J’mon would’ve died in a heroic, but ultimately meaningless, self sacrifice fighting Thordak or fighting the dracolich over Thar Ampala.

With television and movies, you learn not to get your hopes up. That lesbian character might be a main character and be around for a little while, but you’re just waiting for that stray bullet to the chest. That gay character might be confident and strong, but he’s going to be broken down, outed against his will, and then get blown up because he got caught in a revenge plot he didn’t know existed. That woman has a good relationship with her friends and girlfriend despite living in a zombie infested world? She’s going to get an arrow through the head that was meant for the fan-favorite straight guy.

I will never be over the fact that such a beautiful show as Critical Role has given me so many characters that I can see myself in. I will be forever grateful to Matt for giving those characters real agency and playing them the way he has.  Seeing so many long-lived LGBT+ characters shouldn’t be as new or as refreshing of a thing as it is, but that is what mainstream media has conditioned us to. If more people wrote stories/characters the way Matt Mercer does, the world would be a better place.

TL:DR: Critical Role is a beautiful show and Matt Mercer is a writing/acting genius who has helped to restore my hope in humanity and who has worked very hard to give his characters the stories and respect they deserve and for a closeted kid from the deep south, that will never not mean the world to me.

How Versailles Did “Arranged Marriage with someone of the opposite sexuality” Right

My I guess you’d call it meta? on Versailles is getting really cool responses (wow thank you guys I didn’t actually think anyone would read them lol) so here’s another one I’ve been thinking about.

Let me preface this by saying I love “The Magicians”. I’ve loved the books since they came out, I think the idea of a realistic take on Harry Potter/Narnia is brilliant. I think it’s a wake up call to all of us who have dreamed about having magical powers/going to a mythical land because it’s a series about what that would actually be like for your average millennial. It could be awesome but also suck balls. I think the characters are interesting, the writing is both witty and grounded yet doesn’t stay away from campyness and the Les Mis sequence is one of my favorite things I have ever seen on TV.

However, I find what they did to Eliot Waugh questionable  and borderline extremely offensive.  For those of you who are reading this and do not watch the show, Eliot is an openly gay young man who studied theater at SUNY Purchase and is a Magician. He  actually reminds me a lot of Philippe (damn that crossover would be amazing),  very sarcastic, very troubled, yet a truly good  person. He  becomes the High King of this mystical land called Fillory and so he and his friends can get a blade to kill this evil being called the Beast, he needs to marry the daughter of the blacksmith who made the blade. Which is made infinitely more complicated because in Fillory marriages are forever and he cannot physically have sex with anyone else except his wife ever again.  This is kind of a huge problem being that he’s gay.  Now you’d think that for such a progressive show they would find a way to make this not as awful as it sounds. Yeah no, they even go so far as to imply that he’s falling in love with her and his sexuality for about most of season 2 is erased or retconned to be Bi (nothing wrong with that but he was created as a gay character). That’s not good. Also Fen, the girl he marries, is kind of annoying. She’s desperate to get him to fall in love with her in the beginning and is honestly mystified as to why he seems reluctant to sleep with her. She wants him to love her and doesn’t grasp the fact that he’s gay. Anyway this is made all sorts of awkward, they are trying to fix it by also giving him a ‘husband’ because in this fictional land you can have one of each! Still…it’s awkward.

Back to Versailles. There were some people when Liselotte was introduced that thought she was going to be THAT girl, the girl that gets in the way of the OTP. One person on twitter even called her a “blonde cow” (do NOT get me started on that…that was beyond disgusting). Now knowing history, I knew that was not going to happen, those two are together until death do them part (quite literally look it up it’s sad but doesn’t happen for a long time don’t worry everybody!). Yet having experienced The Magicians, I was a teeny bit hesitant as to how this whole thing would be handled as Philippe did have children with Liselotte. How would Liselotte come off? Would she come off as clingy or not understanding of the realities of the situation?

I was SO impressed by the writing of her character, the writing of their situation, and the resolution between Liselotte, The Chevalier and Philippe. I really didn’t want a freaking love triangle of awfulness to last an entire season, especially when Liselotte was such an amazing character. I think that it was genius that they made her someone most people can identify with and even aspire to be. She’s fun, she’s down to earth, she’s courageous, she’s blunt and she’s a damn good person. She walked in fully knowing that Philippe had a boyfriend and though I know she was probably disappointed to realize that he was not attracted to her whatsoever and physically never would be, she came up with a solution that ultimately got her what she wanted (aka kids so she didn’t get kicked out of Versailles and sent home in shame) and  was a great influence on both Philippes. She had the right idea all along, that this whole mess would work better if the three of them could stop fighting and if the Chevalier would just calm the fuck down and realize she didn’t want to take his place. I love the scene between her and the Chevalier, I think it’s an eye opener for both of them. She comes into things with a very business-like  mindset…and he gives it to her straight, that this isn’t about just sharing a bed or sex, it’s about love and that his heart is broken. His monologue to her is heartbreaking. And I think she kind of knocks some sense into him very gently when she says that the reason he’s acting like this is because he’s terrified and that Philippe loves him but he’s going to lose that love.

The writers made her important to both men, and I think, at the end when she realizes that she’s in a fucked up situation where her brother in law actually had most of her family killed, at the very least she knows she has two people who she can count on.  Philippe loves her, maybe not physically but definitely loves her as a person. The Chevalier knows she’d never hurt either of them, and that she wants nothing more than to make all of them happy so he has someone to talk to as well. I think the fact that Philippe basically tells both of them that should anything happen to him (IT WON’T) that the Chevalier will marry her and raise their kids says it all.  And the last scene where they are both watching Philippe leave and Liselotte clutches an obviously distraught Chevalier’s hand, you see Philippe smile knowing the two people he loves are going to be ok. And then the final scene of the season, which I assume is some time later, you see the two  of them again together and it’s clear that they are both leaning on each other for friendship and support while Philippe is away. I think the progression from all three fighting  to working together  and ultimately love is so different, and such a breath of fresh air and also shows just how awesome a person Liselotte is. She’s a bit disappointed, but she’s a damn fine human and she wants the people she cares about to be happy. She becomes sort of the missing ingredient to making those two work, the one who will knock some sense into either one of them when Philippe gets too moody or the Chevalier gets too possessive and I hope they’ll get her to also have more fun and embrace the ridiculousness of it all. Yay great character arcs for everyone!

Also SO happy they made it clear that Philippe is pretty exclusively gay and does have trouble having sex with a woman since he is not attracted to women. He doesn’t just magically perform cause ‘welp now I have to’. That was amazing.

TLDR: Liselotte is a gift of a character, Versailles stayed away from the stupid love triangle trope, and gave us a pretty polyamorous marriage that is respectful, loving, and not uncomfortable.

Update: Sherlolly: A Male Newbie’s Perspective.

So…the long awaited Sherlolly: A Male Newbie’s Perspective, is on it’s way. Promise!! I had no idea my son and his friend’s comments would be received with so much interest. Live and learn, right? Truth be told, their response to His Last Vow wasn’t nearly as interesting as their previous thoughts. In my humble opinion. They watched with rapt attention, and offered - quite vocally - their thoughts on the overall episode, which was far more serious than TEH and TSoT. I’ll finish it up over the weekend.

In the meantime, for those who asked, and because it’s still fresh in my mind – here’s a few conversations that took place amongst my daughter and sister, after The Final Problem. Parts of the conversations are slightly paraphrased, although I did have a chat record with @swjmart about those conversations immediately afterward, while they were fresh in my memory.

I feel a bit silly posting this, but given all the crap Sherlollians have put up with over the years, I wanna add to this ship and see it turn into an Arc. Just sayin’.

I’ll start with my sister, who is the quintessential casual viewer. She didn’t start watching Sherlock until this past autumn, when she binged on Netflix. Lucky girl – she did not put herself through an agonizing three year hiatus. Whether she realizes it or not – she digs Sherlolly! Yay!

It all started with a late morning phone call….

Sister (which will be referred to by ’S’): So, did you watch Sherlock?

Me: Surely you jest.

S: Just thought I’d ask. Did you like it?

Me: Of course. You?

S – Oh gosh yes! T (her hubby), sat on the edge of his seat the whole time, even covered his face in a few places.

Me: God, he’s such a pussy.

S: What?

Me: Never-mind. So, what’d ya think.

S: It was excellent – I loved the whole season, but wish there was more than three episodes.

Me: Welcome to fandom.

S: Pardon?

Me: Nothing. Continue.

S: Can you even imagine having a sister that brilliant and insane? That was so heartbreaking. Really, T almost cried.

Me:  I know, completely mind-blowing, although there were clues in previous episodes that some shit went down. (silently begging her to get to the good part about Molly and Sherlock saying I love you, but not wanting to be overly obvious.)

S: I wish you’d stop swearing. (sister does not swear ~le sigh~)

Me: Do you know that recent studies showed people who swear —

S: Whatever, P. Those clues never indicated a child was murdered.

Me: I know, but even though it was ‘technically’ murder, I don’t think that was the intention of five year old Eurus. She wanted her brother to play.

Me: Hmmm. Weren’t you even a bit disappointed that nothing was said or shown about Victor Trevor’s family, or any investigation? (I’m not being serious, of course, just baiting for opinion)

S: No, it’s not that kind of show. It’s not CSI Sherlock.

(now I get to go in for what I really want to know!)

Me: But there were so many things left unresolved!

S: Like what?

Me: What do you mean 'like what?’ I thought you said you watched.

S: T and I thought the season finale was great – there was nothing left unresolved. I don’t know if they’re going to make another season, because all the actors are so in demand, but if not – I don’t know how it could have ended more perfectly. The only thing I’m really sad about is Mary dying. She was such an interesting character and I liked her a lot.

Me: You didn’t get put off that she shot Sherlock? At one point I found it very hard to believe how easily she was forgiven.

S: Of course shooting the protagonist was dramatic, but he didn’t mind, why should you?

Me: What?

S: You do know these are fictional characters, right?

Me: Don’t be ridiculous.

S: These characters are very dark and most of the time suicidal. Sherlock was on drugs probably all of season three and most of season 4, so of course he didn’t have a problem forgiving Mary. He probably admired her for it. They’re fun to watch, but you can’t think of them as normal – they’re not. Except for Molly. She is the only relatable character. I think she’s T’s favorite part of the show. It’s just too bad they didn’t give her more.

Me: Agree. But…but what about the Molly / Sherlock phone call dealio? I mean, what happened there? The only thing we got after that was a 2 second montage of Molly walking into Baker St.

S: So?

Me: So?! What happened? One minute she’s crying, Sherlock’s smashing a coffin and then she’s all smiles. WTF?

S: They’re not going to show that. I thought you preferred British television over American? British television is always more subtle.

Me: I know, but still – they could have given something more than a stupid montage.

S: They got married. That wasn’t hard to figure out.

Me: What? LOL!

S: Molly has always loved him, anyone who watched the show could see that. Sherlock is probably the most emotionally constipated fictional character ever written - Spock doesn’t count because he’s Vulcan - and he finally realized he loves her too. Probably always has. They’ve been building this up from the beginning. Didn’t you ever pay attention to all the stuff he pulled? Sabotaging her date before he knew that guy was his enemy? He told her to give up on relationships. It’s not like he was joking, although it was funny. He’s literal about that stuff. He didn’t want her to date because he couldn’t cope, it was about him, not her. T really loved that part – wished he would have thought about it when he was trying to date me. Then there’s Sherlock’s temper tantrums, and getting her to do things he could do himself. It’s typical stuff men do when they’re jealous or stupid. They think they’re being smart, like no one can see through all their crap.

Me: Looking at it that way, he probably broke up her engagement, too.

S: Oh, you know he did. T called it right away. What episode was that, where he told her how important she was and basically had eye sex with her. If it had been any other woman they probably would have burst out laughing. What a guy move.

Me: Ummm, the one where he came back, that one? And, btw, I wouldn’t have laughed if Benedict Cumberbatch was staring into my eyes.

(okay, this is literally the most surreal convo I’ve ever had with my sister. I had. no. idea. she even thought about stuff like this.)

S: Well, he’s not Benedict Cumberbatch, he’s Sherlock, lol! Not real life, remember? And, yes, that’s the episode. After that scene T said, 'her engagement just ended.’ Thought it was a smooth move. I’m telling you, this is typical guy stuff.

Me: He probably caused her to doubt herself.

S: It doesn’t matter, it wouldn’t have lasted anyway. It was over when Sherlock came back.

Me: So, why do you think they got married?

S: How old is Sherlock and these guys? Mid to late 30’s? What do you think he’s going to do? Start dating? He’s not going to do that. He can barely cope with what he does feel and Molly is patient and independent enough to be his partner and she’s not needy. Which is good because he is.

Me: So you didn’t see her as weak with unrequited love?

S: Where would you get that idea? Who cares if she’s loved him the whole time. It’s not like she sat around waiting for him to do something about it. She has life and must have felt he cared too, otherwise she wouldn’t have stuck around. She’s not one of our girlfriends who has no self-will or independent thought, and lives in a constant state of angst because her boyfriend or husband is horrible and we have to constantly tell her to leave. It’s not real life. Besides, Molly is sane and helps him connect to people and the world, like John does. Speaking of which, wasn’t it the episode before this one where John gave Sherlock that big speech about how a relationship would make him complete?

Me: Yep, he did. But, he was talking about Irene Adler.

S: Oh, she doesn’t matter.

Me: No?

S: He doesn’t love her. She’s every guy’s fantasy, it’s not real. T still believes Drew Barrymore will adore him if they ever met. Keep dreaming, big guy. Anyway, the writer’s set up some big dramatic relationship thing with John’s speech. So, you knew something was going to happen between Sherlock and Molly.

Me: It’s called foreshadowing.

S: Sherlock is completely ignorant about how to do relationships and love. He trusts Molly with his feelings and heart – she kept his secret for two years about being dead - and now that he knows how much he loves her, why would he let her go? He wouldn’t do that. The only way to keep her around is to marry her. At least that’s what I think. Or, maybe they live together forever…although if I were Molly he’d have to come to my place because it’s so much nicer and she can make him leave when he’s annoying or too clingy. Besides, his place is too dangerous and it’s more like an office than a home.

Me: I just read an interview this morning from Steven Moffat, the show’s creator and writer, who said that Molly was wounded by what happened, but Sherlock was devastated. He went on to say Sherlock apologized, Molly called him a 'bastard’ and they got over it. Then he added that Molly probably had a drink and shagged someone. What the hell, right?

S: That doesn’t sound like the character I saw, but then you probably shouldn’t take stuff like this so literally. I’m sure Sherlock apologized and you could see he was devastated. She almost died – I mean, I was holding my breath and wondering if they were going to kill her. Honestly, that was the most heart-pounding part of the whole episode. Of course he was devastated, but Molly was really hurt. She thought he was making fun of her and they both thought that whatever they did have together was over at the end of that scene. Maybe what the writer is saying is that they had sex together? That would make more sense after something this horrific. Wouldn’t you? I know it’s not real life, but if you were Sherlock and realized you loved someone and that person almost died, those emotions are powerful, overwhelming and mess with your mind. They probably had sex first and then he told her what happened. You know, like couples have sex after they argue.

Me: I didn’t realize you were such a romantic.

S: The whole show is a romance, with some mysteries thrown in. It’s not Hollywood, it’s very subtle. I thought you minored in English composition and literature? You should know this stuff.

Me: I do, but just thought I’d get your take. Hey, let me ask you one more thing…there’s this idea that John moved back into Baker St.

S: Why would he do that?

Me: Probably because he did that in the books, only it was very different because they (S / J) were much older and Mary had already been dead for a long time. Of course John didn’t have a kid in the books, at least not that anyone knew of. Although, I think there’s some pastiches that suggest, or give him, a child.

S: I can’t think why that character would do something so dumb and irresponsible. He’s smarter than that. Baker St isn’t safe for a baby and why would he or Sherlock want a baby around all the time?  It’s Sherlock’s office with a bedroom. His kitchen is contaminated and he keeps body parts around. They meet clients and really dangerous people come there. Plus, John has his own house. If he did anything, maybe he should experience what single mother’s go through and have to take care of his child after working all day and saying 'no’ to things because he has to put his child first. I understand people helping out right after Mary died. Mom had all kinds of help after our dad died, remember? But, this isn’t RL and he and Sherlock have their 'the game is on’ thing, so the baby is going to be sent to be with others.

*** Pretty much the end of of our convo, unless someone wants to hear about how we planned an outing at Sephora and met for lunch…. Probably not, right?

Phone call from daughter, who is known as 'K’ – another casual viewer.

K: So, did you watch?

Me: Of course. Watching it again, to be honest. What did you think? Just give me the Molly / Sherlock low down.

K: Wow, he really lost his shit, didn’t he?

Me: Yup.

K: I honestly thought they were going to kill Molly.

Me: I was a bit worried too. So, what do you think ended up happening between them? We were only given a few seconds.

K: They got married or living together.

Me: Have you been talking with your aunt?

K: No, why?

Me: Because she said the same thing.

K: It’s the only thing that makes sense.

Me: Why do people keep saying that?

K: What else is Sherlock gonna to do? He could barely do stuff without her before he knew he loved her, and now that he knows, it’s not like he’d let her disappear.

Me: Wow, I guess something’s just aren’t that obvious to me. (just kidding, of course)

K: Yeah, well, you don’t watch much television, so maybe you don’t notice stuff.

Me: You don’t think they’d date for a while, that sort of thing?

K: Why? Like Mike (her boyfriend) said – Sherlock just got played by two women.

Me: I don’t understand.

K: The evil sister set up the test for Sherlock to get Molly to say I Love You, right?

Me: Yeah.

K: But, that’s not what it was about. Molly wouldn’t say it until he said it first, because she thought he was playing a game and making fun of her. But, his sister had been watching Molly and maybe watching Sherlock too and knew Molly loved him but would never say 'I love you’ unless Sherlock said it first. But, Sherlock is thinking he just has to get Molly to say it, when the real game was about getting him to say it. But, he’s not going to say it, he won’t even consider it, because he’s an emotional dwarf. So, the only way to get him to say it was knowing Molly wouldn’t, thereby applying the appropriate pressure needed for him to grow the fuck up and get some balls. Well, that’s what Mike said, but I agree. Molly didn’t know she was being played, but his theory still works.

Me: So, his sister played Dolly Levi.

K: No, she’s just bat-shit, fucking crazy and didn’t care. She wanted the thrill of the ride. She doesn’t understand emotional attachment

Me: But, why married?

K: Maybe not married, but they’re definitely living together in a committed relationship for life. Sherlock isn’t capable of anything less. I mean, he could be, he is smart, but I doubt it. God, mom, he railroads her all the time. He would literally implode if she went off and found someone else. I mean, think about the few genius people you know. They have no idea how to do shit and need normal people to help them.

Me: I don’t think he’s that bad off.

K: Maybe not, but he was shooting up all last season because he couldn’t cope with the changes with his friends. John got married, Molly was engaged. He was able to be part of John’s life, but not Molly’s. And he spent most of this season high as a kite. He almost overdosed on the jet when they shipped him off for killing that guy.

Me: Part of that was because Mary asked him to save John.

K: Yeah, but not the jet part. He doesn’t cope with loss and there were other ways to help John. He was dying, mom – headed toward renal failure. Maybe now that he has those memories about his sister, he’ll be able to do better and won’t have the need to self-anesthesize. Plus, he finally understands he loves Molly, like really loves her and being with her helps him stay grounded – she keeps him centered. It takes a village to raise Sherlock.

Me: True dat. So the coffin part was pretty intense.

K: It was. But, he was scared, emotionally vulnerable and couldn’t manage what he was feeling. He had to vent and the coffin was handy. I also think he realized how much he’s hurt Molly. Not just the phone call, but all the other stuff he’s done. She couldn’t trust him and almost died because of it. He got to see what he caused, the consequences of his bullshit. He didn’t know that. He never connected the emotional dots about why she couldn’t say 'I love you’. So, yes, I think he married her and probably will never, ever do another thing to cause her any doubt. His life is too dangerous to put his bullshit on her, leaving her not knowing when he’s being a douche and doing his fakey mcfakerson shit, or being serious. And, why wouldn’t Molly want marriage or a committed life with him? She’s been on the ride since the beginning and it’s better for both of them to be on the same page. They’re both kinda lost without the other.

Me: Right on. So, the I love you was real?

K: Later, mom.

So, there ya have it. Two perspectives from non-fandom people. I love Sherlollians, even the ones who don’t know they’re one. : )

Thank you to Sarah Shahi for her amazing portrayal of Sameen Shaw. No one else could’ve brought this character to life the way she did. Shaw is such an important and complex character. Not only is she a WOC (Persian) but she’s also bisexual and has a personality disorder (and was never villainized for it). On top of all of that, she’s a hero. I could gush about her all day, she means so much to me. She’ll forever be my favorite tv character of all time and I’m so thankful she exists. She is literally everything I wanted in a female character plus more. And thank you to Jonathan Nolan for creating her. ಥ‿ಥ

“Ready Chuuya and… action!”

“This is a view rivaling even the most priceless painting.” Chuuya smirked as he stood on the stairs. “Eh, Dazai?” Chuuya shifted his foot, causing him to slip and fall down the fake stairs. “Oh shit.” He said before face planting.

“Pfffftttt.” Dazai began to laugh, before bursting into loud laughter. “There are tears coming out of my eyes ahaha!”
