I was tagged by @mygeekcorner to answer her 11 questions and then come up with some of my own. Thanks!
1. Do you sing along to intros?
Compulsively. I can still sing all of the Slayers themes in Japanese. (To be fair, those are particular catchy.)
2. What’s a line you’re proud of having written?
Out of context it doesn’t seem that good, but in context the line is jarring. “Don’t pretend you don’t know how lucky you are,” Mari whispered. (I told you it’s not that great out of context. If anyone wants to know, just message me. It’s in my a/b/o universe and some of the content is sensitive.)
3.We all know that astrology is fake, and we all keep reading the horoscopes (or bullshit tumblr posts about the signs), but how offended ™ are you when you don’t agree with what it says about you?
I’m a Pisces, it’s all pretty true to be honest.
4.What was the last performance you saw live? (plays, concert, competition etc)
Thinking back it was almost two years ago, my sister and I saw the choir from our local university’s large Christmas production. (But I’m going to see Cinderella as well as the Russian ballet when they’re in town in February this year.)
5.What will Santa find on your wishlist this year?
Well, if Santa wanted to bring me the YOI nendos, or the Victor and Yuri gem figures or my DVDs early, I wouldn’t complain.
6.Are you a breakfast person, and what is the best breakfast?
So the chances of everyone regretting this question are high. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE breakfast. Like, I eat breakfast at every meal. There is not best breakfast- all breakfast is AMAZING. I love cereal, eggs (particularly scrambled or in omelette form), hash browns, pancakes, french toast, crepes, sausage links, coffee- I am a fan of just making breakfast-for-dinner whether that’s what my family wants to eat or not. I like pop tarts and toaster strudel and coffee cake and breakfast sandwiches and I want to branch out and start international breakfast like we did dinners, but uhm, my breakfast love is a fandom of one over here.
7.Can you do a handstand?
I can barely stand on my feet. (I’m way to clumsy to try this madness. So no.)
8. What’s a random fact that you never get to share with anyone? Now is your chance!
So my dad is obsessed with trivia (he plays 4-5 nights a week), so I always have an outlet for random facts. And get tons shoved into my head. Did you know the first Thanksgiving Parade was in 1921 in Philadelphia and sponsored by Gimbles dept store? And that the Macy’s parade is the second longest running Thanksgiving Day parade? You do now. (Technically Macy’s ties with another one, but I forgot which one. :p)
9.Best hot beverage?
10. Are you competetive?
Sometimes. Mostly not really.
11.So far, what has the best part of 2017 been?
Road Trip to Grand Canyon with @artisticentropy. That might be the best part of my *life* so far.
Right questions for me to ask.
1. Are you a single fandom or multi-fandom person? 2. What fandom(s) are you in right now? 3. What book or series of books (or author) from your childhood has had the greatest impact on your life? 4. How long have you been reading or writing fic? 5. What is your favorite fic trope? 6. If you could be doing anything at all at this moment what would it be and why aren’t you doing it? 7. What animal were you in a past life? 8. What is your favorite food? 9. Are you missing anyone right now? 10. Is there a circumstance where you would find it okay to take a person’s life? 11. What is something you appreciate?
One night after a difficult mission made Bruce even gruffer than usual, his children gathered for a group complaining session that featured sarcastic Bruce-impressions and comments like “it would be nice to get positive feedback every once in awhile”
“I get that he loves us and all, but he could stand to show it” “Or say it, even. Never heard him do that”
At that point Cass, who had been sitting quietly, confused all of her siblings by replying, “He says that a lot”
See, Cass’s understanding of language is different. She reads body language, and it allows her to understand how people feel when they aren’t necessarily communicating it to others. Technically, Cass has never heard Bruce say “I love you.” But she’s certainly seen him say it many, many times
And since her siblings found that hard to believe, she set about proving it to them. Through the rest of the mission, every time she saw Bruce say “I love you,” she approached the nearest sibling and whispered “There”
[Bruce adjusts Damian’s cape on his way past] “There”
[Bruce rolls his eyes as Dick and Tim strike intentionally melodramatic poses on the rooftop] “There”
[Bruce hands Duke a granola bar when his stomach starts growling] “There”
[Bruce uses excessive force on a villain that came slightly too close to Jason] “There”
[Bruce tells off the collective JLA for unprofessional behavior while they openly ignore him and continue said behavior] “There”
[Bruce turns away from the truly impressive kick flip Cass used to incapacitate three separate combatants with absolutely no change in expression] “There. See? He’s proud”
The others aren’t totally sure they believe her, but if she’s right…. wow. That kind of changes everything
And since Bruce had no idea any of that went on, she’s free to continue. Whenever Cass sees that one of her brothers is feeling down, she follows them around to act as Bruce’s translator. Somebody has to do it, she figures
Maleficent is a dragon who cursed an infant because she wasn’t invited to a christening, this woman CANNOT raise a child.
Queen Griemhilde is a conceited, vain witch who killed a 14 year old because she was prettier than her, this woman CANNOT raise a child.
Jafar hypnotised the sultan, got himself turned into a magician, a genie, just for power and forced a 15 year old to be his slave girl, this man CANNOT raise a child.
Cruella DeVil is a mentally ill woman whose affection consists of derogatory comments, blowing smoke in your face and never taking no for an answer, this woman CANNOT raise a child.
So, let’s say Evie, Carlos, Mal and Jay grow up on an island without magic, surrounded by murderers, thieves, people who did bad things, people who are proud of these things. Let’s say, they don’t teach them to be evil. Let’s say, they teach them ‘don’t let anyone keep you from what you want, you are a queen, a dragon, a genie, you are magic’. Ben has dreams about a girl with green eyes and lilac hair, of a girl who is different, something fae, and he remembers the fairy who cursed his father because he wasn’t kind, so he asks his parents to let some of the villain’s kids stay in Auradon. Show them goodness.
When they arrive, they don’t arrive in a tumbling mess. They don’t even get out of the car, and when the chauffeur opens the door, there’s a stick thin girl with long blue hair staring at her hands, a muscled boy who almost isn’t a boy anymore, rubbing the bands on his arms, the girl from his dreams, eyes glowing, a little boy dressed in fur curled up in their laps.
They aren’t used to magic, even though it is in their very cores. So they take time to get used to it, to learn to live with death and power under their skin.
They weren’t sent to get a wand for world domination. They were sent to get a wand for freedom. So it takes them longer to realise just what their parents did. It takes talks and family day and Queen Leiah screaming at the top of her lungs (‘Get away from here, do not touch my grandchild, my daughter will never be mine because of you, how dare you, how dare you?’) for Mal to realise that this isn’t about invitations and pettiness. It’s about a woman with hair as yellow as gold and lips that shame the red red rose, growing up poor, in a cottage, falling to her death at the touch of a spindle, this is about her mother talking about the raven with more fondness than her, this is about all the things her mother did, no matter the reason.
Evie still studies with Doug, and she hasn’t been taught to score a prince, she’s been taught to use her beauty, it is all men want, get rid of them before they get rid of you, do NOT die. So she meets with Doug at his house and Dopey stares at her and then he gets Snow White, who breaks down crying at the sight of this thin, beautiful girl with hair in a colour that has haunted her sleep ('what did she do to you, was it not enough for her to kill me, what has she done to you’) and Evie realises that her mother’s stories are not about men, they are about this woman, about her sister, who was 14 and beautiful and dead. And this is about her and all the bones she can count when she looks in the mirror.
Jay befriends the only other Arabian speaking children he can find, plays gurney, ruthless and self centered and for him, and one day Aladdin picks his children up and Jay does one of those backflips where he stays in the air for too long and it knocks the wind out of him. Jay doesn’t understand because of Aladdin, he sees a thief, who is like him, but it isn’t what makes him think, tourney does the trick because they are a team and the world does not revolve around him, he is not the center of the universe.
Carlos knows that his mother is wrong from the moment he is old enough to master critical thinking. She shrieks and hits and worships fur and he spends his days begging for scraps. There’s no magic in him, no rush he gets from crossing the barrier, so he helps his friends. They have always been his lifeline, so maybe now he can be theirs.
Shout out to all of you having a tough time right now
Whether you’re struggling to make content
Feeling lost or alone
Having an identity crisis
Not feeling like yourself
Dealing with the loss of someone you love
Or going through personal issues that feel like they just won’t end
I love you and you’re doing great. Just remember, a journey is not a straight road. It is littered with mountains and rocky edges and cliffs that sometimes feel too high to climb. But you’re going to get past them, and continue on. You’re doing great. You’re valid. I love you.
Please stop praising Taylor Swift for “reclaiming the snake”.
She got caught out in several lies and STILL continued to play the victim (don’t even get me started on how she’s played into the innocent white female narrative) - something she’s built her whole damn career on.
What she’s doing by “reclaiming the snake” is pretty much saying she has nothing to apologise for. And YET AGAIN making herself out to be someone to be pitied and to rally behind because she’s so brave and she’s the underdog. It’s frustrating and embarrassing and the fact that she’s STILL using this whole narrative just shows that she hasn’t learned anything.
SNK Character Song Series 06: Levi (Image song & monologue translations)
Heeeyyy, Tumblr! Long time, no see :’) Did y'all enjoy SNK Season 2?
Levi and Erwin’s image song CDs were just released and I enjoyed listening to them a lot! ♡ So, I decided to pop back in for a bit and take on a new translation endeavor, something I haven’t really done in a while.
First up, this post is Levi’s image song and monologue! For the song, I included the original Japanese as well as romaji for karaoke purposes, if you’re so inclined ;) I also made a transcript of the monologue in the original Japanese, which you can read here (feel free to use it to translate into other languages.)
This should be obvious but keep in mind these are spoilers for the song & monologue, in case you wanted to experience them for yourself first. I definitely encourage supporting the official release & ordering the CDs if you haven’t already ♡

This kind of world now
Even if we try shaking it upside down There isn’t one thing that comes out
Which is certain, is there?
Outside the walls, it is hell
Inside, it is brimming with deceit
What’s more, we have to swallow it down
We can only fulfill our duty
Will we lose control of emotion and be consumed by a god of death? Or will we try to use our dim-witted heads?
The dark side of the moon, untouched by light
For the sake of pushing forward
We have to be faster and at times
Be heartless without hesitation It’s not a mistake if it’s what you want to do, so do it
There are no right answers here
Just being without regrets
Is my own decision
If were to I survive here
Rather than education with words
Isn’t persuasion by memories of pain
An essential lesson?
To avert sacrifice as well as danger
Things like results
Cannot be obtained
Steel yourself for it
The dark side of the moon is concealed
For the sake of someday being revealed
Do not get agitated, do not scream
Be certain of the circumstances
Without results, there are no right answers
Therefore only in the end
Just being without regrets
Is my way of living
Brave soldiers who died noble deaths² before us The hopes they left behind give us power
Without fail, one of these days
We will demolish the obstructive walls as well
For the sake of freedom, we devote this life
¹ It appears that Levi’s gruff style of speaking is present even in the lyrics of his song. The standard form of the verb here would be detekiyashinai (出てきやしない). ² The verb in the original Japanese, chiru/散る (or in this case, the past tense form chitta/散った) in the literal sense means “to fall” (in the context of leaves or blossoms from a tree). However, it also has the figurative meaning of “to die a noble death”. Even though we also say “fallen soldiers” in English, I worried that translating the lyric as, “fallen before us” or “fallen behind us” could both be misinterpreted, I decided to go with the more figurative meaning;;
Levi Monologue English Translation
Seriously now, I’ve had enough of this. This world is perpetual shit, and humanity is still toothless prey.
Those ugly titans are always going to take a bite out of us, and so we die a meaningless death.
Humanity is powerless.
When we won against the titans for the first time, the time when we sealed the wall in Trost district with a boulder, we could do it because of Eren’s power– a titan’s power.
The weak ones die quickly. How much power they use up doesn’t matter.
Eventually all of humanity, every single person will end up in the stinking maw of a titan, and while we experience the worst feeling there is, perhaps our miserable lives will end.
I realized it a few years ago. The stench of the gutters fills the inside of these walls. It’s been like this for over 100 years. It’s the way things are now.
Because I’ve had to breathe in this foul air ever since I was born, because I had no choice but to live crawling around in piles of trash, I thought that it was normal.
But when I went outside the walls for the first time, I realized how much I didn’t know about anything. It hit home for me, how much I had hated it.
The world outside the walls was like hell with titans wandering around, but the air I breathed there was completely different from the one inside the walls.
I realized, out there is what freedom is.
Freedom is something that absolutely cannot be obtained within the walls.
So I made a choice. I will continue to kill all of the titans.
If you want to confront the titans, information is never enough. So in order to survive, I learned how to live.
Quick action and callous decisions by assuming the worst is a necessary endeavor.
A moment’s hesitation, surrendering yourself to emotions, and you will be nothing but Titan bait.
If you don’t want to die, you have to always continue to keep this in mind.
And small choices will accumulate.
That is the way of living I have learned.
Risking no danger, making no sacrifices– there is no such easy discussion.
Even if there was, it’s all make-believe.
So far, I have lost numerous subordinates.
Whether my choice was correct at those times, I do not know. It’s always been like that.
Even if I believe in my own power, even if I believe in my comrades whom I fully trust, none of us will know the outcome.
Afterward, all that’s left is reality.
In that case, What can I do except make a desperate effort?
What can I do except doggedly press on?
If I have time to think about the bygone past, like if I were to have made a different choice back then, I will kill as many titans as possible within my power.
In that time, in that moment, a sudden, ridiculously strong power boils up from inside my body, and then I know what to do.
When that moment comes, I can no longer go back to my old self.
With these blood-stained hands, I accept my new self, I steel myself, and I only do what I must.
Was I correct? Or did I make a mistake? That’s the sort of thing no one knows, so it’s not worth worrying about.
All you can do is keep your mouth shut and make a choice without regrets.
Not understanding things about this world is true for everyone.
So I choose the guy whom I want to put my faith in.
Erwin is like that, too. No one knows what he is really thinking deep down.
But I trust his judgement.
He may be inviting the worst outcome, but he’s not afraid of that, he is able to choose something. That’s the kind of guy he is.
That’s why I chose to follow him. And I chose to fight.
In order to fight against this shit world, with this hand I’ll grab hold of the freedom of going beyond the walls for the first time.
