hi hi, do you have any advice for like...writing a new ship for the first time??? i wanna start writing some malec fics cos i've had a ton of ideas in the backburner for ages, but i really don't want to get the characterization/their dynamic messed up and i'm honestly terrified that i'll do stuff wrong
To be honest, there’s no right/wrong way to do it. I remember feeling so nervous (and still am sometimes) about writing for malec. But the best advice i can give is just….start? Yes, your first drafts/stories may be cringe-y or not perfectly in character, but you’ll start to get a feel for the characters as you continue.
You can rewatch clips/scenes or think about traits that you think really stand out to you in the characters too :)
Trust me, no one starts out writing brilliantly in-character fic (unless you’re a god, in which case, congrats you amazing being you xD). Also, getting a beta/someone to read over your work can be helpful, especially because it gives you an objective opinion.
A friend also gave me some brilliant advice, which is especially good for writing dialogue: if you can’t close your eyes and HEAR that character saying it in the show/book/etc, then it’s probably best to edit/cut it.
But all in all, remember that it should (hopefully) be fun! You clearly love the characters and want to write more about them, which already makes you halfway there! See where the writing takes you, and have fun with all the worlds and scenarios you can create, and good luck! :) xxx
