Andrew opens his eyes to the pitch black of their dorm room, unable to move, barely able to breathe. His back is to the wall, his hands are clenched in the sheets, and he is struggling not to bite through his bottom lip. Images of demons past play behind his eyes, so he does his best not to blink. Andrew jumps when Neil makes a small noise in his sleep, and he feels like the walls are closing in on him.

He climbs over Neil, careful not to touch him, and silently makes his way toward the door. He thinks he hears Neil call after him, but Andrew knows he will give him some space. At least for a little while. Andrew leaves the room, fully aware that this is just a feeble attempt at outrunning his own mind.

Neil’s weight beside him is now familiar and can even be a comfort, sometimes. But on the occasions when Andrew’s senses are on overdrive and the smallest movement feels like an avalanche, an earthquake, a fucking planetary realignment, Neil knows better than to take Andrew’s abandonment personally.

Neil’s hoodie is thrown on the back of his desk chair, so Andrew makes his way over to dig out the pack of cigarettes from the pocket. He thinks he could light it with just the fire on the edge of his tongue, but he grabs a lighter from the drawer just in case.

He opens the window with so much force that the glass vibrates harshly for several seconds. Andrew is unconcerned. He watches with disinterest as a small crack forms at the bottom of the windowsill. Whatever. It’s still functional.

He climbs onto his desk and pulls his knees up to his chest, leaning back against the wall before lighting his cigarette and taking a long, slow drag. Andrew wonders if maybe the smoke will clear out the tar in his lungs, if he’ll be able to breathe again. Probably not.

Time passes, and Andrew doesn’t notice. An hour, maybe two. His breath fogs up the window. He stares outside as the sun slowly illuminates the parking lot below. The Maserati begins to take shape, and he has the sudden urge to drive until he can’t anymore. Maybe through the mountains, maybe off a cliff. Who knows.

He must be spending too much time around Neil.

Andrew distracts himself by recalling the highest points of elevation in the United States from a geography book he read in high school. He isn’t even halfway through the list when he hears the bedroom door open. He doesn’t look, but the sound of the door closing lets him know that it’s just Neil. He never lets the door click back into place; he turns the knob and shuts the door, releasing it only when the door is fully closed and will make no noise. Andrew isn’t sure whose sake he does this for. Maybe Kevin’s, maybe his own.

He keeps his gaze trained on the parking lot until he feels Neil approach him. He slowly flicks off the ashes from his cigarette into the small pile he has made on top of Kevin’s history book. Ancient Rome or something equally as useless. Andrew doesn’t care enough to look. He turns his head to see that Neil has stopped a few feet away, running shoes in one hand and a hoodie in the other. He doesn’t say anything, but he extends the hand holding the hoodie, the same one that was on the chair. Andrew looks back to the window and takes note of the layer of frost on the outside. It’s probably a bit above freezing. Funny. Andrew hadn’t noticed.

He reaches out and takes the hoodie. Stares at Neil. Prepares to pry open his jaw and force out a reply to whatever Neil is about to say.

Polyester Makes Her Butt Itchy

A/N: I hope you guys like it, I didn’t edit this so I hope you don’t mind too much.

Harry knew Y/N’s love for animals were strong, she was always kind to each one she saw. Y/N went to pet stores everyday, no matter if she barely had enough time she would make time. Everytime she came back she would ask Harry the same question “Can we please get a pet please H? You know I’ll take care of it, maybe we can get something small like a mouse, spider, or something please?”

Harry was taken aback the first time she’d asked the question, he knew damn well the spider was out of the question. He didn’t want to risk getting scared at night and accidentally kill it then consul her after breaking the unfortunate news. But that day and onward his answer had been the same, “Pretty girl, you know I would love nothing more than getting you a pet, but when I take you on tour with me it’s not very practical to have a cat with you. Even if you leave it at home who’s going to take care of it for that long? I’m sorry love, but it’s a no.“

Telling Y/N no made his heart stop, she never asked him to throw all his money into her needs and wants. So it was extremely easy for him to say yes to her, well the only thing he hesitated on was letting her do is make up, after a few kisses and a blowie he agreed.

Y/N called Harry before walking out of the house, “Hey H, I’m about to walk down to the pet store, Louise said she’d keep it open for thirty extra minutes so I can’t pass that up. You’ll most likely get home before me so can you preheat the oven?” Y/N fumbled with the keys before putting them in her pocket and walked toward the shop. “Unfortunately love, I’m gonna hafta pull an all nighter at the stu’. If I do that and work tomorrow as well I’ll get this weekend free.” A free weekend sounded great to Y/N so no complaints left her lips.

“Yeah that’s fine. I’m here H, I’ll call you when I finish.”

“Okay love, can’t wait to see yeh this weekend cause I have a surprise jus’ for yeh. Love ya pretty girl.”

Y/N’s cheeks got heated at the thought of his surprise. “Okay Har, Love you too.” she opened the door as soon as the conversation ended. Y/N was used to seeing Louise at the front desk waiting for her, but today was different. “Louise? Where are you?” she called out. “Back here!” Y/N maneuvered her way to the back of the shop. Louise stood to greet the guest but with tears in her eyes, Y/N’s heart immediately broke and she pulled Louise into a hug.

“Oh my goodness are you okay? Was it Kevin? I told you that butt was no good for you.” Y/N pouted while combing through Louise’s newly red hair. “No it’s not him, it’s Minty. We have to put her down tomorrow since her medication is getting pricey and we barely have enough to feed and take care of all the animals. I’ve called every cruelty free animal shelter and they have no room.”

Y/N herself started to ball her eyes out at this news, Minty was Y/N’s favorite animal there, of course she treated and loved on all the pets there the same amount, but Minty held a special place in her heart. “Are you sure? No one wants to buy her or anything?” Y/N quickly ran to get her favorite cat, minty, and cuddled her next to Louise. The redhead sighed and went to pet the cat in question "No, I’ve tried giving her to other shelters, but they don’t have space. I tried to give her away for free but when they find out about her condition, they bail.”

Y/N sighed and placed kisses on the top of the cats head. “Then I’ll take her.” the redhead shot up “You can’t, you know what Harry will say then you’d have to give her back and then she’d get put down the next day.” Y/N shook her head, “No that’s not going to happen. I’m not letting go of her when I could have done something to stop it. Harry can yell at me and chew me out all he wants because honestly I don’t give a damn. Won’t let Harry return this cat, if he even thinks about it I’ll beat his ass with a  hammer.” Louise chuckled at Y/N she may have been quiet and sweet but if you fucked with something she loved, she won’t hesitate to release hell upon the one who wronged her. “Well love bird, if you’re serious let’s get some paper work done.”

After about forty minutes of paper work, Minty was officially Y/N’s. While the redhead locked up shop, Y/N called Niall, “Hey Ni! How are you?”
Niall sighed on his end of the line. “You only call me ‘Ni’ when you do something wrong. What’d you do?” Y/N mentally cursed herself for letting Niall in as a big brother and knowing all of her tells. “You know how I love animals rig-”

“Christ Y/N, you didn’t. Who am I kidding, fucking huge heart of yours. What happened?”

Y/N cooed at the kitten in her lap, “Well, you know Louise and how she has a pet shop? Minty is my favorite cat and they were going to put her down and I couldn’t allow it, so I took her home. Harry’s going to be pissed I don’t know what to say to him.” Niall cleared his throat, “With that reason alone Harry wouldn’t be upset with you hell, throw some puppy dog eyes and tears? You’d get away with bloody murder.”

Y/N chuckled knowing he was completely right, “Well we just pulled up to Pet Smart, I’ll call you later yeah?”

“Okay sweetheart stay safe.”

Louise and Y/N walked around the store picking out toys, food, bowls, collars, a cute sailor outfit Y/N just couldn’t pass up, and finally a bed that felt just right and was made of the right materials because, “Polyester makes her butt itchy. So get something with way more cotton than polyester.

While Y/N looked for a bed, Louise started ordering Minty’s medication. They got every thing they needed and drove to Y/N and Harry’s shared home. After setting a up a small scratching post and letting Minty get used to the house, Y/N decided she held the redhead captive enough and let her go for the night. Once things got settled down, she called Harry.

” 'Ello love. I thought yeh said she’d keep it open fo’ thirty minutes not two hours.“

"Yeah, after visiting the pets we came back to the house and watched a movie. Kinda lost lost track of time but at least I called.” Y/N decided not to tell him over the phone, this was a matter that had to be discussed face to face. “Ahh I’m glad yeh got a girl’s night. Anythin’ else?”

“Nope, just chillin’.” Harry laughed and they continued their conversation until she got tired.

Today was the day. Early Saturday morning, she made Harry’s favorite breakfast and waiting at the kitchen’s island for Harry to walk through the door. As Y/N poured juice for herself, Harry walked into the kitchen. “Goo’ morning pretty girl, whatcha up ta?” Y/N smiled and ran into his arms, “I made breakfast come on, let’s eat.” Halfway through breakfast, Harry felt Y/N’s foot rubbing against his ankle. “If ya wanna play footsies jus’ ask.”

Y/N furrowed her eyebrows “I’m not doing anythin’.” Harry gave her a face then looked down at his feet. His chewing slowed and his eyes got wide, “Tha fuck!” Y/N’s eyes also wided in realization, “H, baby hear me out th-”

Harry swallowed his food and looked up at Y/N. “You have negative five seconds to explain the cat at my foot.” it’s was obvious he was holding back yelling at his girl, the proof in the vains protruding from his neck. She ran over to pick the cat up and bury it in her chest. “H, they were going to put her down today since she was getting expensive and no one would take her. Yell at me call me what ever names you want, I don’t care but you aren’t taking Minty away from me!”

Harry immediately soften at the mention of Minty. Everyday after her vists she would always go on about this particular cat and how happy she made her. Harry saw the love in her eyes every time she talked about her. He sighed and walked toward Y/N and the cat. “Tha’s Minty?” the worried girl nodded her head. He looked his lover in the eye before holding his hands out for the kitty. “If she makes yeh that happy, I guess yeh can keep her.” Y/N’s eyes filled with tears as she jumped and cheered around the kitchen.

“You hear that Mint? I can keep you!”

After that fiasco, all three cuddled on the couch and watched TV. “Mmm wait, get up fo’ a second.” Y/N lifted herself off of Harry’s lap and watched him walk toward his abandoned bag at the door. “Here.”, he placed a smallish rectangular box on her lap. Y/N opened the box to reveal a phone case with a picture of her and Harry as the design. She cooed at the case then leaped up the give Harry a kiss and a hug, “Oh my gosh, thank you thank you thank you! I love it babe!” He smiled into the hug and rubbed her back.

“ ’m glad yeh do.”

This may sound kinda rude, but why do you only use red to sketch?

short story: i like it

long story: it starts from like traditional sketching where red is a really good base colour, like its not very overwhelming to most other colours so you can use it as an initial sketch layer and its very easy to go over with another colour (i usually like a darker red or a blue, depending on what im planning to do with the sketch),, but its also quite striking on its own so if you do like the sketch then you can leave it that way

also when i want to draw clean lines i like to use layout paper and then a regular black pencil, and layout paper is kind of like a more substantial tracing paper, and red is very visible through the layout paper and, unlike if you had had a greyscale sketch under the layout paper, your clean black lines dont get confused with the grey lines underneath

below you can see the initial red sketch with the darker red refinements of the sonny/pete sketch i did yesterday, and also the cleaner lines i did on layout paper afterwards (i wasnt happy with the sketch at this point, so took it into photoshop for another refined layer)

also i have a red sketchbook i started this year, where all the sketches in it are just red, which i decided to do because i wanted to practice filling space, and chose red because i had a nice new red pencil, and love how red looks less scrappy than pencil, and all the sketches come together and flow nicely and the red brings them together as one whole page but doesn’t overwhelm the individual drawing,, i mean DOESNT THAT LOOK COOL????

now, digitally, the choice of red was just initially transferring the technique, like “oh red looks nice on paper, lets do some of that here” but now i really do think that its a good choice,, and to prove my point i edited some of the lil bennys from earlier

black is just a lil plain and bland, yellow is always hard to see and very easily overwhelmed, pink is too loud and overwhelming, blue is probably my second favourite but you cant draw in blue without bringing sadness to the party, and then theres red! soft, good, not overwhelming, easy to get depth of tone, very visible but not dominant, doesn’t evoke any particular emotion so its very versatile (unless of course you use a very harsh red and really try to bring out the anger of the colour and what not), just pure and good and nice

SO PLEASE, people who made it to the end of this long long red nerd out, GO FORTH, TRY RED, HAVE FUN

You woke up in a cold sweat on Monday morning. You knew something was wrong from the second you opened your eyes. You turned on your phone, using it as a light source in your pitch black room.

Immediately you froze, your fingering hovering over the unlock button. You had a ridiculous amount of missed calls and texts from Betty, Veronica, and Kevin. You glanced at the time, your eyebrows knitting together in confusion. It was 3:30am. What could they want this late?

You opened your texts and were flooded with information.
Kevin was going to the river with Moose, Kevin and Moose had been caught at the river.
Veronica was wondering if you had seen Betty.
Betty was letting you know she was okay
And finally, all three had messaged you the exact same thing, in almost uniform wording. five words that explained your feeling of dread.

They found Jason Blossom’s body. He was shot.

Body.
Corpse.
Dead.

You knew Jason was dead…but it was still like a punch to the stomach. Maybe a little part of you hadn’t believed it. Maybe a little part of you hoped your half brother was just…missing. But a corpse was irrefutable. Final.
And more importantly…someone had killed him.

-
-

After a restless four hours of attempting to sleep, your alarm saved you from your thoughts. Every time you closed your eyes you saw Jason staring back at you, his eyes dead, hair dripping with water, a bullet wound through his head.
You couldn’t shake it from your head, you had no idea why you even cared that Jason was dead. You hadn’t known him.

You reached onto your nightstand and silenced your alarm. You threw the quilt off you and onto the floor, climbing out of your bed. You walked across your carpeted floor into the bathroom. You splashed cold water onto your face and then ran a damp hand through your hair to calm down.

You stepped into the shower and let the warm water wash away the dark thoughts and fears plaguing you.

You got out of the shower and finished getting ready. You glanced at your phone after pulling on your shirt and groaned, you had taken longer in the shower than usual and had no time to eat breakfast. With a resigned huff, you pulled on your shoes and walked out the front door.

When you got to riverdale high, Betty’s name was called over the announcements to come to the office. You decided to go to the office. You wanted to check on Betty after the shit storm that was the weekend.

You got to the office at the same time as Betty and Kevin. They smiled at you in greeting before Kevin caught sight of the mysterious yellow roses on the desk.
“Oh, my god, those are gorgeous*. Are those for Betty, Mrs. Phillips?” Kevin said, walking closer to the flowers.

The decrepit old woman behind the desk gave Kevin a harsh stare. “That’s why I called her.”

Kevin snatched a white card from the center of the bouquet, “Dear Betty, please forgive me. XOXO, V?’ Who the hell is V?”

“Veronica.” Betty and Veronica said at the same time. Veronica stepped through the door from the hallway, holding a white box.
“The yellow’s for friendship, I also had magnolia cupcakes flown in from New York…because, as my mom likes to say, there’s no wrong the right cupcake cannot fix.” Veronica took a tentative few steps towards Betty. “Also I- I booked us for hers-and-hers Mani-pedis at Chez Salon…blowouts too. I am so, so sorry, Betty. I don’t know what happened to me that night…It was such a basic bitch move. It- it was like I was possessed by-”

Kevin interrupted her, “Madame Satan?”* he asked snarkily.

“The old Veronica.” Veronica finished, looking down in shame. “And I will never, ever, do anything like that to you again. I swear on my mothers pearls. Just…can you please* give me one more chance?” Her eyes were pleading.
Betty smiled and shrugged, “Okay.”

You, Veronica, and Kevin all spoke at the same time, “What?”
“Really?!” Veronica’s words were excited, a huge grin on her face. Your’s and Kevin’s were shocked, his also accusing. You weren’t the hurt party here so you had decided to follow Betty’s example on the whole Veronica thing…but you honestly hadn’t expected that.

“Awesome! I’ll take it. And you won’t regret it!” Veronicas grin got wider.
“Okay.” Betty said again, so quietly you almost hadn’t heard her.

“I’ll bring these to lunch so we can celebrate.” and with one last grin Veronica walked out of the Office as the Bell for class rang.

As soon as she was gone you and Kevin stared at Betty in shock, “It’s the path of least resistance guys. A week ago Veronica and I weren’t friends… Next week, we’ll nod to each other as we pass in the hall, but that’s it. In two weeks, she won’t even remember my name. And in three, she’ll have latched on to some other girl to destroy.”
You and Kevin frowned. You didn’t think Veronica was out to destroy Betty…and you were positive that Betty wouldn’t get rid of Veronica that easily. But you kept quiet, not wanting to get on Betty’s already crowded bad side.

So you just nodded awkwardly and walked with them to class.
The speakers crackled on and Weatherbee began the morning announcements before you could say anything more to Betty.

“There have been many inquiries about the upcoming pep rally. So let me state clearly…it is happening as scheduled. Now, on a less felicitous note…if you could give your attention to Sheriff Keller.”
Another man’s voice came over the announcements, who you assumed was Kevin’s dad. “Most of you already know the details, but your classmate Jason Blossoms body was found late Saturday night. So as of this weekend…Jason’s death is now being treated as a homicide. It is an open and ongoing investigation.”

The entire school was silent. Everyone was staring at the speakers. Your fingers clutched at the necklace you were wearing, your knuckles going white. You were the only one not staring at the speakers. You were staring down, your face emotionless.

Cheryl’s voice crackled over the speakers. “And may I interject? Neither I nor my parents will rest until Jason’s death is avenged, and his cold-hearted killer is walking the green mile to sit in old sparky and fry. I for one, have my suspicions. hashtag “riverdale strong.”

Kevins father’s voice came back on, “If you know anything that could help us find and apprehend jason’s killer, or anything about what happened to him on july 4th, I strongly urge you to come forward immediately. You can speak with me or principal Weatherbee. A death like this wounds us all. Let’s not let Jason down.“

Your first class was biology. As you walked in you instantly regretted it, there were dead frogs splayed on trays at each work station.
It wasn’t that you were afraid of blood or anything, you just didn’t like…dissecting things.

Betty and Kevin had taken their seats at a desk by the window and all the other seats were taken… except for the one next to Jughead.
“Hey…this seat taken?” You smiled hopefully at him.
Jughead didn’t answer and just gestured for you to sit down. You smiled and took a seat next to him, setting your bag down on the floor.
“You look moodier than usual…you okay?”

Before he could answer or you could press further, the teacher came in.
“Seats everyone! Pair off, gloves on, scalpels up!”
Your friends quickly paired off leaving you with no partner for the dissection.

Heyyyyyy…so how are you with a scalpel?” You asked Jughead who, you assumed, also had no partner. considering he was still sitting next to you.

“Is that your way of asking me to be your partner?” Jughead raised an eyebrow at you.

“Yes?” you grinned sheepishly
He just rolled his eyes. It wasn’t with annoyance though, it was more on the side of amusement. Jughead took out a pen and filled out your names on the top of the assignment paper.

Two of Cheryls cronies leaned on the desk you were both sitting at, completely ignoring you and Jughead and whispering nasty things about Cheryl. You were quickly becoming annoyed with them, but before your anger could get the best of you there was a sickening squelching sound of a scalpel being stabbed into one of the frogs. The girls jumped, you and Jughead whipping around to see Cheryl with her hand tightly gripping the scalpel. Her face was neutral but there was a definite murderous glare directed at the girls.
You and Jughead stared for a few seconds more as the girls turned and fled from Cheryl’s eye line. You hadn’t known Cheryl Blossom that long but that had been extremely unsettling.

The rest of class passed by in a blur. You tried making jokes to cover your squeamishness and Jughead mostly ignored you, occasionally smirking or doing that eye roll thing again, but most of the class was passed in silence. Something was definitely off with jughead…but you couldn’t ask him what.

Later that day at lunch you, Kevin, Betty, and Veronica were walking across the field, trays of food in hand.
“sooo…” Veronica started, a playfulness in her voice, “what did Moose want?”

“Oh, my god. I don’t even think he knows. I mean, I am devastatingly handsome in that classic pre-accident Montgomery Clift kind of way, and sexuality is fluid, but can someone named ‘Moose’ actually be that fluid?” Kevin ranted.

Veronica laughed, “Okay, well I ship it.”
“I ship it too! You deserve pretty things, Kev.” You grinned.

“Well of course you guys would! You’re big city girls with loose morals.” Kevins tone was teasing, but his joke wasn’t well received, given what had went down just two days earlier. “I just meant…that Moose has an official girlfriend. Midge. Anyway, it’s terrible to say, but part of me wishes he would just stay in the darn closet.” Kevin finished as you approached the blue picnic table where Archie was already sitting.
Archie shot the four of you a confused and concerned look.
“Obviously, I didn’t mean literal closet…” Kevin corrected.

“Comfy.” you said, voice dripping with sarcasm.

“Archie! Any new material you wanna try out on a very forgiving audience?” Veronica expertly changed the topic.
“I–” Archie trailed off.

“Please?” she said, her eyebrows raised in plea.
“Yeah, please Archie? you didn’t even let us hear the end of the last song!” You added.

“Would you? I’d love the hear it.” Betty said, a soft smile on her face.

That did it.

Archie sighed in resignation and reached for his guitar. “I’m still working on the lyrics, so…okay…”
Archie sang the first few lines while the four of you watched him. It was actually amazing and you freaking loved Archies songs, even if you were a little unsure on how much you liked him as a person.
Before he could get far into it, Betty looked like she was about to cry and he stopped.

You Kevin and Veronica applauded quietly.
“Betty?” Archie’s voice was laced with concern, “You okay?”
Betty had a distant and sad smile on her face as she looked away from the group. “I’m supposed to say yes. That’s what the nice girl always says, but…No, I’m not. I-I want to be. I thought I could be, but it’s too much, too fast. Archie…” Betty turned and walked away crying.

Archie bolted up, “Betty–Betty, wait!” Archie ran off, leaving you, Kevin, and Veronica watching in stunned silence, none of you knowing what to say.
You watched as Betty and Archie had a pretty intense conversation. You, Kevin, and Veronica all sat with baited breath. You couldn’t hear what they were saying but it didn’t look good. Finally it ended, Betty walking off about to cry and Weatherbee calling Archie to see him. The three of you shared a stunned look, Kevin’s mouth open in shock and Veronica at a loss for words.

The next day you caught up to Betty and Veronica at their lockers, both locked in an intense conversation. When you approached they stopped talking and smiled at you. “Hey (y/n)!” Betty greeted you. You waved awkwardly, feeling like you had just intruded in on a relatively intense moment.
“Hey guys, sorry can’t actually stay to talk I haven’t eaten yet and I’m freaking starving. There’s a vending machine in the lounge thingy right?” Betty nodded and pointed in the direction of the vending machines, You smiled gratefully and took off.

You walked through double doors into a room filled with couches and loud-mouthed jocks. You navigated your way to the back of the room. Betty, Veronica, and Kevin arrived in the room soon after, but quickly split off into different places, Veronica began talking to resident playboy (and suspected dickwad) Chuck Clayton, and Kevin and Betty took a seat at the edge of the room to do some homework.

You walked over to the vending machines and contemplated the machines contents, There were mostly off brand chips and overly processed suspicious looking packets of jerky. You groaned in frustration, “I think I’d rather starve to death than attempt to eat anything in here…” you muttered to yourself.

“I think eating anything in there would kill you a lot faster than starvation.” You jumped slightly, startled at the sound of Jughead’s voice.

“Jesus! Don’t you know its not polite to sneak up on people?” You accused.
“I didn’t sneak up on you.” Jugheads lips were curled into the faintest of smirks.

You were about to argue back that he had, in fact, snuck up on you, when Reggie’s voice cut you off.

“If a kid at Riverdale killed Jason, it’s not gonna be a jock, right? No, let’s be honest. isn’t it always some spooky, scrawny, internet troll, too busy writing his manifestos to get laid? Some smug, moody, serial-killer-fanboy freak. Like Jughead!” You rolled your eyes at Reggie, his loud-mouthing was getting old real fast.

“What was it like, suicide squad? When you shot Jason? You didn’t do stuff to the body, did you? Like, after.”
Jughead closed his eyes in annoyance and then lazily turned his gaze to Reggie, his arms crossed. “It’s called necrophilia, Reggie. Can you spell it?”
You grinned at Jugheads retort, Reggie however, found it less amusing.

“Come here you little–!” Reggie leaped over the back of the couch he was sitting on, towards you and Jughead. But before you could blink Archie had shoved in front of the two of you, pushing Reggie back.
“Hey, shut the hell up, Reggie.” Archie shoved Reggie away. You took the opportunity to get out of the way before things got ugly.

Veronica stood up, “Boys?” her face plastered with concern.
Reggie looked Archie up and down, “What do you care, Andrews?”
“Nothing, just leave him alone.”

Holy crap. Did you and Donnie Darko kill him together? Was it some sort of pervy blood brothers thing?”
You snorted in amusement. This kid was a special kind of stupid.

Archie didn’t answer and shoved Reggie forcefully, Jughead shouted but it was lost in the chaos as Reggie and Archie slammed into the vending machine, shattering the glass. Jughead tried to pull Reggie off of Archie but one of the Jocks pulled him off. Reggie punched Archie, knocking him out.
You didn’t know what to do, but it looked like Reggie was going to punch him again. You did the only thing you could think of…and hit him with your backpack.

The bag made contact with Reggie’s back and he stopped mid swing. He got up and stared at you, rage in his eyes. You were a little terrified but Archie was your friend…kind of. And Reggie was a massive dick.
Everyone’s eyes were on you as you spoke, a false confidence making your words sound steady.
“That’s enough, Mantle. He’s unconscious.*”

He grinned, “Oh, so Andrews gets his girlfriend to rescue him now? Can’t fight his own battles?”

“Im not Archie’s girlfriend. What I am is someone who doesn’t like loud mouthed jocks that pick on everybody to hide their own insecurities and issues.”  your tone was cold and biting.

Reggie was pissed, his hand curled into a fist, but you weren’t done.
“You, reggie mantle, are just a highschool has-been waiting to happen.”
He actually looked like he was going to hit you, but you knew better. Hitting a girl is a big no-no, even among the jocks. He walked up to you and towered over you, trying to be intimidating.
“What are you gonna do, Reg? Hit a girl?

You sidestepped him casually and knelt down next to Archie, motioning for some of the guys to help carry him to the nurse’s office. You walked out alongside the people carrying the unconscious red-head and your friends followed you out.
Kevin and Veronica cornered you as soon as you were clear of the room.

“Holy crap (y/n)! Where did that come from?” Kevin grinned at you, a flicker of what seemed to be pride in his voice.
“Yeah girl, that was AMAZING!” Veronica added.

You smiled wearily, “Yeah, well, can it be amazing in the bathroom? Because I think I might puke. That was straight up terrifying.”

The night of the pep rally you were running to the football field. You were already late, and you and you had promised Betty and Veronica that you were going to watch their cheer performance. Your shirt had been buttoned in a hurry and you had forgotten your jacket,  but you were sure as hell not going to break a promise to your friends.

You got there as the game was just starting and you swore, You spotted Jughead and jogged over to him. “Any chance in hell I didn’t miss the cheerleaders performance?” Jughead furrowed his eyebrows at your weird question and disheveled performance.
“I promised Betty I’d come out and support them…and then I kind of lost track of time…” you offered as explanation.
Jughead nodded with a faint smile on face.

“Is that a real smile on your face, Jones? Wow that’s gotta be like, the seventh sign of the apocalypse, right?…So what brought that on?”
Jughead rolled his eyes, but, like always, there was a warmth behind it. “Just had a good chat with an old friend.”

You grinned playfully, “Well, I like it. Looks good on you.” You suddenly looked semi-concerned. “Hey do you think they noticed I was missing? Probably not, right? Jeez, if I had known I was going to miss it anyways I would’ve grabbed my sweater. It’s freaking freezing.”
Warm fabric was gently draped around your shoulders. You looked up in confusion to see Jughead’s jacket on your shoulders.

“Just to be clear, this isn’t a boy giving his coat to a girl he likes. This is a friend lending another friend his jacket because she tore a new one in Reggie Mantle to stop him from further beating up the first friends other friend.” Jughead was staring at the football field, turned completely away from you.
“You lost me at the third friend, but thanks for the jacket.” You smiled softly and turned to the game.

You passed the next few hours in comfortable silence, just watching the game surrounded by noise and people and the rain. But it all just kind of blurred as you stood next to Jughead.

After the game, Archie had invited Jughead and you to Pop’s, which you had happily accepted. Any excuse to go to a place with food was good with you.
When the three of you walked in the door, Betty and Veronica were already in a booth. The five of you stared at eachother and betty smiled. “Do you guys wanna join us?”

Jughead smirked. “Yes, but only if you’re treating.” You nodded in agreement as the two girls laughed.
“Veronica Lodge.” Veronica introduced herself.
“Jughead Jones, the Third” Jughead answered, climbing into the seat next to the window.

“Jughead Jones the Third.” Veronica echoed, her eyes narrowing a bit and a smile on her face.
You laughed and pulled up a chair rather than squeezing into the booth. “He really likes the ‘the Third’ bit.”

Everybody was laughing and smiling as you all sat there around the booth at Pops.

And for one shining moment, you were all just kids.

It had been a rough couple of weeks for you. With the death of Jason Blossom and the constant pressure set on you from your so called ‘mother’; you were starting to feel it. The slow, painful drain of energy finally starting to take it’s toll on you. You were becoming dangerously care free. Your schoolwork was sloppy and the shade under your eyes was becoming a deep lilac, a side effect of the insomnia, which your friends had started to notice. Betty and Ronnie were constantly asking if you were okay, Kevin trying to make you life with his puns and side comments, and Jughead trying to make you feel better with his sardonic humour. However, it was your closest red-headed friend, Archie Andrews, that had taken the most interest.

You and Archie went way back, as did you and Betty. You’d lived on the same street for as long as you could remember; you’d practically grown up together. You and Archie had always got on best though. Maybe it was your common interest in sports, or maybe it was just how it played out. Either way, you were thankful to constantly have Archie by your side. There was never a time he left you alone; like the time you and your mother had a mammoth argument and she chucked you out for the night. It just so happened that the minute your intoxicated mother slammed the pale green door in your face, Archie had been returning from a run. Whilst you stood lost like a star in the solar system, Archie didn’t hesitate to check you were okay, which also happened to be the first time Archie Andrews witnessed you cry. It scared you both. Your wall that you had spent so long reinforcing, crumbling within a matter of seconds in the arms of your favourite red-head.

“Hey” you heard someone pull you from your thoughts. You took a deep breathe and looked up from your jumble of homework, spewed across Archie’s bedroom floor. You rested your head against his mattress for a second before casting your eyes to him, receiving a questioning gaze. You knew this look. You held eye contact for a few seconds before he put down his biro and walked over to his bed, patting the space next to him. You followed suit, placing your pencil in the margin of your biology text book and crawling onto the bed. You took your spot nearest the wall as you both reclined backwards, your head instinctively falling onto Archie’s chest. He traced his finger gently along your forearm, although strictly platonic, as he knew it relaxed you. Silence had fallen upon you both.

“Are you okay?” he whispered. You let out a slight chuckle; how could anyone be okay after what this town was going through? You closed your eyes for a second, readjusting yourself in an attempt to escape the world by burying your head into his chest, again strictly platonic. You felt his grip tighten on you slightly;feeling physical touch was the best comfort he could offer. You sat up to face him, where you were met with his pleading brown eyes. He pushed himself into sitting position, his fingers reaching out towards your face. His fingertips brushed the bags under your eyes, sadness and pity filling his.

“How much sleep did you get last night?” he murmured. You felt the all to familiar feeling of tears start to build up in your eyes. You didn’t want to disappoint him with such a small number. Your murky green eyes glazed together with you lip trembling slightly. You saw the  sorrow slowly fill Archie’s eyes too. You chuckled slightly again; an attempt to compose yourself. You pushed Archie back down and placed your head back on his chest, playing with his hand and his other arm went back around you. You fiddled your fingers with his, his hand seeming to engulf yours, but he let you.

“Sing me something” you whispered weakly. You felt his stare on you as you closed your eyes once again. You heard him start to sing softly, one of his most recent songs that he’d written. That was the last thing your brain registered as you finally managed to drift off into sleep and it was at that moment you realised that Archie was your safe place.

I am NOT angry! I am in PAIN…and YOU put me here! The person who was supposed to love me more than anything…!

Could you maybe write a Kevin accidentally meeting Joaquin's closest friends/gang members oneshot? Like would it go well/friendly teasing or more threatening? Thank youuuu

This Is Not How I Imagined It

Or, Kevin meets Joaquin’s ‘family’

Word Count: 1.4k

Genre: Fluff

Warnings: mentions of gangs and mentions of violence

Read it on AO3

Note: all of the gang members and Joaquin’s brother are made up by me. These are my characters. All of Joaquin’s family life here is completely headcanon.

Kevin didn’t know when he had become the kind of kid who made out in the back of bars. He used to roll his eyes at the couples that would grope each other during school dances or behind the shelves of Riverdale’s library. Yet, here he was, in the back of a Southside bar, with his tongue down his boyfriend’s throat. Speaking of, Kevin swirled his tongue around Joaquin’s, mimicking something far dirtier and prompting the serpent to moan and press their hips together. Kevin smirked, his hands running all over Joaquin’s body before finally resting on his ass and gripping it firmly. Joaquin broke apart, tossing his head back with a moan that rushed straight to Kevin’s pants. Kevin attached his lips to the shorter boy’s neck, sucking and biting.

Suddenly, Kevin felt a short vibration. He ignored it in favor of continuing down Joaquin’s neck. Still, the vibrations persisted, coming from Joaquin’s back pocket, where Kevin’s hand was resting. He still ignored it, but Joaquin broke away, swatting Kevin’s hand and reaching into his pocket. Kevin didn’t get a glimpse at the caller ID before Joaquin hurriedly untangled himself and began to walk away.

“Don’t move a muscle, I will be right back.” He called over his shoulder before answering the call, moving away for some privacy.

Kevin slumped against the wall, annoyed that some stupid phone call was keeping his boyfriend from him. His super hot serpent boyfriend, who he had been very close to taking someplace more private. Kevin sighed, growing colder without the heat of Joaquin’s body shielding him from the draft. It was Kevin’s first time being in this particular bar, but it looked very similar to the other Southside bars Joaquin and he had attended. There were two pool tables down at the end farthest from where Kevin was standing, a rickety bar with even more rickety stools, and, right by the door, a snake slithering around in a large tank. Kevin shivered a little when he looked at the snake, not completely comfortable around the creatures yet.

Kevin was getting impatient. Joaquin had been gone for far too long, and he was slightly concerned about the four young serpents who had been staring at him ever since Joaquin had left. Kevin knew that he looked out of place in his charcoal sweater and blue button up, but he normally didn’t attract much attention from the other serpents. He kept his head down. But these four were staring and whispering and not even attempting to be discrete about it. Kevin swallowed nervously, but smiled at the group anyway, trying not to get beat up. Apparently, Kevin fucked that up because the group of serpents began to walk towards him.

“Hey there, preppy.” The tallest of them started. He was taller than Kevin, something that didn’t happen often, with white-blonde hair, and a scar running from his bottom lip to the edge of his chin. He was clearly the leader of the group. Kevin was immediately wary of the nickname, it was what Joaquin called him; how did this kid know that? Could it be a coincidence? It had to be.

“Um, hello?” Kevin questioned cautiously, “do I know you?” He shuffled back a few inches before his back touched the wall. This time, a small, yet still somehow intimidating, girl with jet black hair spoke.

“Nope.” She grinned. “But, damn. We sure know a lot about you, Kevin.”

Kevin gulped. This definitely was not going to end well. “Actually, I was just leaving. I’m sorry for bothering you.” Kevin made to leave, but was blocked by a short, chubby, ginger boy. In any other setting Kevin would have smiled at a boy who looked like him, winking and hoping to make him blush. But not in this bar. Not when the boy in question looked like he could easily kill Kevin, despite the red locks and rounded cheeks.

“You aren’t going anywhere. We need to talk to you.” He glared at Kevin, the taller boy and small girl following suit. It was only now that Kevin realized that the fourth member of the group hadn’t walked over to him. Behind the three serpents in front of him, a boy, with hair that matched Joaquin’s, but who was quite a bit older, leaned against the wall, talking in the phone in hushed tones. Kevin didn’t have time to give this anymore thought because the three serpents that were paying attention to him, closed in, forming a semicircle around their prey. Kevin stood tall, however, attempting to appear confident.

“Well if you know my name, it’s only fair I know yours.” He stated, and was surprised at how convincing he actually sounded.

“A joker, huh?” The blonde chuckled, but offered an answer. “Name’s Finch. This here is Winston, and the lovely lady is-” He was cut when the shirt girl elbowed him in the gut.

“Keep your comments to yourself Finch.” She spat back. “I’m Millie. Not that it means much to you.” She glared at Kevin, clearly not as impressed by his feigned confidence as Finch had been. Winston was the next to speak.

“Look. You are not part of this world. You aren’t a serpent. You couldn’t even pretend to be one of us.” He scoffed, reaching out and teasing the sleeve of Kevin’s sweater. Kevin resisted the urge to yank his arm away.

“So just keep that in mind.” Finch continued, “We know you think that you understand Joaquin, but you don’t. We are his family.” He paused and Millie picked up where he left off.

“And we are not the kind of family that quickly forgives. Hurt him, and your fate will be worse than that blossom boy’s.” She snarled. Kevin was sure she was going to hit him, or at least shove him a little, but at that moment, the kid from the wall hung up his phone and pushed through the circle, making him eye to eye with Kevin. He brought his hands down on Kevin’s shoulders menacingly.

“Here’s the bottom line, Keller, you hurt my little brother, I hurt you.” Kevin couldn’t stop the gasp that escaped him. This was not how he wanted his first impression with Joaquin’s brother to play out. He had been expecting dinner, maybe some light hearted chatter before explaining that he really did like Joaquin and wasn’t planning on screwing that up. Instead, here he was. In the back of some seedy bar, pressed against a wall, just hoping not to get the shit beat out of him.

“Damn it! Sebastian! What did I say about accosting my boyfriend?” Kevin smiled at the familiar voice as Joaquin rounded the corner. “Is this why you called me? To keep me occupied while Finch, Will, and Millie threatened Kev?” He questioned, pushing past the other serpents and grabbing Kevin’s chin, checking his face to make sure there were no bruises. “Are you okay, Kev?”

Kevin smiled and nodded, amused by his boyfriend’s worry. “I’m fine Joaquin. Just a little surprised, that’s all.” He lowered his voice, “This wasn’t really how I imagined meeting your family.”

“Wait. What?” Wilson interrupted, reminding Kevin that the gang members were still standing there.

“Uh, this isn’t how imagined meeting Joaquin’s family would be.” Kevin repeated.

“You imagined meeting his family?” Millie questioned further.

“Well yeah. I mean he’s met my dad. I assumed I’d be meeting his brother soon enough.” Kevin was confused by their reaction. Were they not threatening him a mere minute ago?

“So you guys are like serious?” Finch asked, backing away slightly to give Kevin and Joaquin some room.

“Of course we are, dumbass.” Joaquin interjected. “What? Did you think I was dating the sheriff’s son for shits and giggles?” This prompted laughter from the group, including Sebastian.

“Kevin?” Sebastian inquired.

“Um, yeah?”

“Take good care of my little brother, okay? He deserves to be happy.” As he said this, Sebastian reached over and mused Joaquin’s hair.

“He deserves everything.” Kevin muttered, looking at Joaquin as if he’d hung the moon. Sebastian chuckled, throwing his arm around Finch and leading the group away from the two boys. “You deserve everything.” Kevin repeated, taking Joaquin’s chin in his hands.

“I have all I could ever want.” Joaquin responded, “I’ve got you.” Joaquin pressed their lips together gently, and Kevin couldn’t help the grin that spread across his face.
