you need to get yourself a new show

Aries: “The floods have passed. You won.you stand victorious now, gold medal around your neck. You have conquered and won every required.  Let the flames come roaring home. Let them carry your spirit, because I know you’re tired. Let joy fill you again. The time for war cries have passed, it is now time to sing. Let the flames drape you in warmth and illuminate world. Let them restore all that has been laid to waste. It is the healing era.”

Taurus: “You’ve been at war against change for so long, ironclad in your stubbornness. If only you could see that this time is going to bestow your wings upon you. Preparing for you to take flight; from a caterpillar cemented to the ground, into a stunning butterfly. You just have to be willing to take the leap and enter your chrysalis first. This is no easy feat since there is no instant gratification here. You must put in the effort and persevere. You can do it.”

Gemini: “Time to grow quiet and reflect. You’ve wallowed in naïveté, and played in a childish mindset for too long, my dear. Being loud, screaming and laughing, jumping up and down until the ceilings rattle with joy. It’s time to silently ponder and deliberate carefully; especially in regards to what fate has in mind for you. It may not always be easy, the road may be rough. But hold on. Have faith that it all changes with time.”

Cancer: “I know sometimes the change looks scary, but it’s time to let it come. You already wore the crown and your reign was glorious. Let someone else take the stage, and pass the baton. You aren’t stepping down, just stepping aside. You don’t always have to be the image of sheer perfection. Let yourself fall every once in awhile. Being held up on a pedestal has to get exhausting every once in awhile.”

Leo: “This is it, your shining moment. All eyes on you, watching you light up the room like the sun. Take the risk, step up to the plate and give it your best shot. Aim your arrow and point it true. You cannot miss. Be sure of your steps because you’re heading in the perfect direction for you. We are all cheering you on. Can’t you hear us? We want nothing but the best for you right now.”

Virgo: “The world applauds you for all that you’ve done, but the time has finally come. Lock the door, lay down, close your eyes and breathe. Feel the weight of the world fall off your shoulders.  You do not have to carry the burden of everyone’s sins anymore. You are not responsible for kissing every single scraped knee better, and mending each broken heart. Allow yourself to focus on what you need. You can’t expect to save anyone if you yourself are drowning, my dear.”

Libra: “I know the storm is raging. The thorns sprouting from your blooming roses deprive your buds of the little sunlight they initially had. You’re feeling just as suffocated and trapped right now. Everything around you is a whirlwind of chaos, but don’t let that break you. Stand stronger than the storm pounding against you. Learn to make yourself big, even in the smallest of places.. Purchase some weed cutters; treat yourself to a solution, even if it’s temporary. Have faith in knowing that the storm will pass and the sun will radiate once more.”

Scorpio: “Heed my warning you stubborn child. Listen to me, I’ve been here before. This isn’t criticism or condemnation. It is just firm advice from someone who only wants to see the best in you. Who only wants to watch you succeed. By allowing the red haze of fury to cloud your mind, you surrender your better judgement. Every time you drink the poison you lose another piece of yourself to make room. The pressure builds inside you like a volcano and when you erupt; your pride, and joy will be your only casualties. You’re strong enough to let this shit go so, do it.”

Sagittarius: “Your words drip like venom from your fangs, digging under others skin. I know you think it shouldn’t hurt, but god does it ever. And yet, here you are, a beacon of optimism with a grin plastered on your face. What a beguiling cluster of traits you are. I can’t figure you out, and I suppose I’m not meant to. But if we could find some kind of peace that doesn’t give me anymore scars or leave you any more upset, I would call that a victory.”

Capricorn: “You’ve locked yourself in a tower for so long. Thinking that the only way to stop missing the sun’s warm glow is to never feel it in the first place. Open yourself up again. I know it terrifies you inside. But just because it gets rather cold some nights doesn’t mean the heat isn’t worth it. You can’t survive on your own forever. Eventually you’ll need to reach out. Just know I’m here waiting. Hand outstretched, waiting for your firm grasp.”

Aquarius:  "Time to look forward to a new sunrise. Grab your jacket and let’s go! You have so much to show the world and so much to accomplish. The church bells are ringing for you. Your time has come. They are calling you, coaxing you into glory. Do not be scared, this is the blank page you have been craving for. You just have to take the risk and jump. To push your fears aside, leave them behind. They won’t do you any favors.“

Pisces: “Use your innate strength as fuel for your inner flames and utilize them. You are a goddess and you own that shit! Time to start acting like it. Make these flames dry your tears, make them dance for you beneath the spotlight. Use them as a shield, or a deadly weapon. Make them your tool to carve art onto every inch of your world. Whatever you do, just make it yours. Because, Honey if you can tame the roaring flames within you- you can tame anything”

—  This Week In Astrology (Co-Written by @babygirlastro )

Hey babes! August is here, which means that the first day of class isn’t far for a lot of us! The first day is exciting, but it can also be pretty scary. Here’s your guide to tackling the first day with grace, and setting yourself up for your best year yet!

be prepared

Having the best first day means putting in some work beforehand! This way you can wake up the day-of and have a relaxing morning, instead of rushing around trying to find your textbooks.

  • Save your class schedule to your phone
    • I like to add each class (including details like the room #) as an individual reminder in my iPhone. That way all you have to do is swipe right on the lock screen and everything you need to know is there! If you have another type of phone, setting a picture of your schedule as your home screen works as well.
  • Prepare your supplies
    • Make sure you have everything you’ll need for the first day, and pack your backpack completely the night before.
  • Think of some ice breaker answers
    • I don’t know about you, but for me the worst part of the first day is sharing “a fun fact about yourself” or “one word that describes you” in every class. Save yourself some stress and think of those now!
  • Pick out your outfit
    • First impressions are important, so show up on your first day feeling confident about how you look! Make sure everything is ironed and laid out the night before so all you have to do is put it on!
  • Pack a lunch and prep breakfast
    • Make sure you have a healthy lunch packed and ready to go before you go to bed the night before, and go ahead and get a head start on breakfast too. Lay out the ingredients on the counter so all you have to do is fire the waffle iron up and go.
  • Get a good night’s sleep
    • Go to bed a little earlier than you normally would. Nerves about the first day mean that you may not get to sleep as fast, and you’ll probably be waking up earlier than you’re used to anyway.

the first day!

  • Wake up early
    • If you wake up a little earlier than you need to you can start your day relaxed, and that sets the tone for the whole day! Take your time getting ready & eating breakfast, and avoid using your phone (or you’ll totally find yourself on Twitter instead of getting dressed)
  • Get to school early
    • It usually takes me a little while to get my bearings on the first day of class, especially if my first class is in a new building. Show up early so you have time to scope out the halls and find your way.
  • Bring a planner
    • You’ll be getting a lot of dates thrown at you the first day, so be sure to bring your planner to write it all down!
  • Introduce yourself
    • Before class, say hello to the person you’re sitting next to and get to know them a little! After class be sure to introduce yourself to your teacher (or say hello if you’ve had them before). It’ll leave a good impression and may help you out with your participation grade!
  • Relax!
    • First days can be scary, but they can also be fun! Try to relax and enjoy it and know that you’ll have the best year ever!
venus placements: where u go wrong in your love life (poem)

aries: you are bloodlust and explosive stardust, your need for raw emotion and high energy is more important to you than your need for genuine security and cozy duvet blanketed love that tucks you in every night.. you’re looking for fire when you only need heat

taurus: you are grandeur bogoise decadence in the form of a lavish meal at a five star restaurant, where you wear your finest jewels and gown, sit pretty and appear only mildly amused as your truest inner princess rightfully deserves to be pampered, it is typically you doing the pampering, quit kneeling to the feet of your lover and make them bow to you for a change

gemini: you are a hot miami summer’s night car chase, in the fastest sleekest brightest Lamborghini.. your lover is able to outsmart you only by a fifth of a millisecond, as they use the back alleyway to beat you at your own route, pulling up in tesla model you’ve yet to see – you are so enthralled by the chase you are blind to what is under the hood

cancer: you are disneyland fireworks, chocolate malt milkshakes in glass mason jars and pretty umbrella fixtures that peak out in an aesthetic that gives you hope for your future, you crave a love that nurtures and humbles you, you need so badly to feel wanted and find a love as authentic as the fairy tale you reread every night before bed, but you’ve never heard of grimm’s fairy tales and that’s a trouble in itself

leo: you want “you are the only person in this world i could ever imagine a life with, i want nothing but you, i need nothing but you” but you are willing to accept complete unadulterated adoration from anyone willing to drown you in it, even if your intuition usually screams that this line has been said before, it’s okay as long as you feel appreciated, but maybe you see appreciation in the form of danger and gifts, and there’s no love in that.

virgo: you are so in love with the idea of what you want and who you are that you don’t see what is actually happening in front of you, you play jester to your peers and yourself - more focused on the intellectual integrity of a person versus the morality and there is fault to that

libra: you give and you give and you give until there is nothing left for them to take from you and that is usually when you convince yourself that it is only fair you pour yourself into a cracked jar until all of your substance has leaked onto the counter, because there was something you saw in that person nobody else did, and you were promised they weren’t going to let you pour out but

scorpio: you are at war with your need to love so fiercely it could destroy you, and your need to guard yourself from the pain that your past lovers subjected you to and you carry all of them around like ghosts that won’t let you fully sleep at night, but this new person is better and more promising but every time they go to kiss you, you flinch because the only physical contact you’ve told yourself is possible is a fist

sagittarius: you are a train ride that lulls you into melancholy as the whirring and smoke engine relax you, taking you into unchartered territory, different shades of trees show through your window and you’re so fixed on the getting there, you never actually stop to exit the train, eventually try to get off and explore your new destination, versus anticipating your next.

capricorn: you need routine kisses on the cheek after breakfast, and mandatory phone call check ins in the afternoon, you need monetary insurance in the form of a ring that sits nice and pretty on your finger reminding you of how this is what you need and what you want – but you’re so skeptical if any of these things becomes irregular or unreliable you lose sight of what you love about a person if they can’t nullify the ocean of your insecurities, you must learn to trust in order to love.. you cannot let people into your bed, and mistake that for your heart.

aquarius: you need substance and raw agave sweet purity of a person’s soul, you are searching for an innocence you no longer can see in yourself, but you’re jaded and you wish on stars for people that will never love you instead of people that actually could

pisces: you need soft kisses and plush pillows and for someone to take you into the forest and host a picnic for two, where you can discuss your eclectic taste in indie records nobody else has discovered but the two of you, and you are so levelheaded and calm that you forget your anger is unforgiving and if they wrong you just once you cut their head off and leave them their on the checkered blanket in the woven straw basket, maybe try to be more patient

Moon Signs

Aries

You are illuminated with incredible perseverance, so even if you aren’t bragging about your inventiveness and accomplishments most people will see you shine brightly simply because you never give up, and persist in your goals.

You’ve got a brilliant sense of humor that puts people at ease. This is a good thing because your exuberance and full-on voltage is sometimes off-putting to more sedate or reserved people.

But you can’t be asked to hold back from your electric impulsiveness - you absolutely must express yourself. You do this exceedingly well in group projects - you are a consummate cheerleader; always motivating the group.

Taurus

You like utter honesty, and if you feel mind games are being played, you want no part of it. You tend to be very classy, with killer taste in design, fashion, art, etc. In fact, you need to surround yourself with refinery and loveliness. Otherwise, you’ll pick up on lower energies and dingy or sullied environments will send you to an abyss of depression.

You have notorious inner-wisdom. Your job is to trust that inner-knowing (because often these signs lack the conviction behind their gut instincts) because you are always dead-right. Do not make a move until you feel it is right on a visceral level. It’s your gift, and a fantastic tool for self-preservation. Trust your inner guidance, always.

Gemini

Your mind is as sharp and clear as the fullest moon in the sky on a crystal-bright night. With this kind of mental alacrity comes a tendency to over-think. And, with over-thinking comes anxiety, worry or even doubt about your own judgment.

Geminis do best when they can balance their active minds with some sort of creative outlet. Music is particularly effective as it activates both left and right brain functions. You have remarkable communication skills.

You easily speak to others with confidence, and have the uncanny ability to “know” what is being said to you - even when your mind is thinking instead of listening to what the other is saying.

Cancer

You shine your brightest when your mission to help, heal and support others. Moreover, you are “over the moon” with joy when you can see all your hard work pay off. You need to see the difference you make in the lives of others - this is your highest reward.

Of course, recognition for all your support and nurturing is a great motivation for you too. As a moon sign, you’re not likely to show your touchy-feely-emotional nature to others.

Give acknowledgement to your inner stirrings rather than hide them. You’ve got amazing intuitive skills and, under stress you’re known to just blurt out thoughts on your mind that are incredibly accurate on a psychic level.

Leo

You are in your element when you are being admired for your amazing wit, charm and intelligence. With your sharp intellect comes a tendency to process to quickly and this makes you miss subtle clues in communication with others.

Consequently, some misunderstandings can take you completely by surprise. Just remember the phases of the moon, and train your mind to move a bit like a rolling storm. You like to take risks, and these usually pay off for you because you tend to be naturally lucky.

Virgo

Well, your intuition orbits everything, and that means you’re often on “sensory overload” making you anxious and twitchy much of the time.

What’s more, you try to make sense of it all - putting chaos into order. Sorting out details and making everything tidy and logical tends to make you edgy, and others often have no idea what’s gotten you irritated. This kind of intuition is a gift

And while you’re at it, ease up on the self-criticism. No one else is as harshly critical about you - so why are you being so relentless with yourself? Simply know your standards (even for yourself) are higher than everyone else’s.

Libra

You see tremendous beauty in the simplest elements, and seek to keep purity and clarity in place in all your dealings.

A moon in Libra is always looking for a yin to your yang (or vice versa). Meaning, you’re always seeking a complimentary balance to your energy - particularly in partnerships.

You love a challenge, and you work very hard to balance the equation by finding solutions. This means you often attract partnerships with people who have some glaring flaws (because you know you can tip the balance and sort them out).

Scorpio

You process better in private, where watching eyes cannot see you. You are deeply intuitive and other people’s thoughts and feelings reveal themselves to you like curious magic

Your challenge is to be more forgiving of your natural cycles (you get impatient and angry with yourself - and tend to hide these feelings from others which just exacerbates your tension).

You also tend to be guarded, and take great measures to manipulate your environment to match your ideal setting. And you are incredibly idealistic, which is a fabulous balance to your intensity.

Sagittarius

Ever the adventurer, you require life to show you excitement and high times. When things get dull, you get weary and set looking for something better, brighter. This need for shiny newness sometimes gets you into trouble because sometimes you stir the pot in the wrong direction - churning up too much activity or drama.

Your saving grace is a strong sense of justice, and a love for humanity. These passions bring about your philosophical nature, which easily puts you in a position of teacher and mentor. Actually, you’re quite a brilliant tutor, and win a great deal of admiration from your followers (of which, there are many).

Capricorn

This means you make everything you do look easy, which can also put people off. They have no idea beneath your cool exterior you are pragmatically planning the next five moves in your strategy to accomplish your goals.

A unique mixture of patience, willingness and dogged determination usually insures victory. You’re also remarkably dependable; others naturally seek you out for guidance and advice.

Your special ability to stay collected under pressure makes you a fantastic leader. You also win respect from your peers easily because you don’t just talk the talk (you rarely boast), you actually walk the walk.. People really look up to you for that, and admire your integrity.

Aquarius

It’s the moon that enhances your knack for perception, and the Aquarian nature is to intellectualize what you’re perceiving. So, it only makes sense you are able to “read” people to the extreme.

In fact, a lot of your decisions and actions are based on unseen intellect. This makes you look a wee bit daft or eccentric to others. Odds are you don’t mind the label - maybe even relish it.

You are a humanitarian, and easily serve as a catalyst for positive change in the lives of those around you. You also give off a comforting, secure vibe that puts people at ease and makes them trust you. This enhances your ability to help others.

Pisces

You live on the darker side of the moon and tend to be reserved, sometimes downright withdrawn. Some people mistake this for shyness, but that’s really not the case. You’re just sensitive

In fact, you have a vein of psychic gold that is so accurate, it scary even to yourself at times. You are incredibly gifted in your powers of observation

Even better, you are incredibly shrewd, you make accurate assessments and have sound judgment. This unique combination makes you a force to be reckoned with, but you tend to use your powers in creative ways.

here’s just a small list of study tips and tricks that i learned over the course of
attempting to take six ap classes all at once (don’t do that to urself pls):

  1. take notes - take all the notes! it doesn’t matter what way you take notes (cornell, etc.) it’s just a really nice way to make sure the material really sticks in your brain
  2. revise said notes - it’s all about beating the curve of forgetting; as long as your keep on revising and re-annotating your notes, you won’t need to super cram on test day. in addition to that, don’t highlight a dense block of text; underline, colour-code, and add notes to the margins. instead, if you just highlight like crazy, you won’t know what to focus on revising. not saying that highlighting is bad, just saying that overhighlighting is bad
  3. actually read the textbook - a lot of teachers assign pages of textbooks but i recommend reading the entirety of the textbooks and working through the examples. sure, it’s a little bit more work, but you end up with a well-rounded view of the topic/subject you’re studying (and i also find that a lot of teachers will skip important topics in the interest of time, so be sure to read the textbook so you don’t miss out)
  4. do all ya homework - so important! do the homework!!!!! you will not succeed if you don’t put in any effort and don’t do any of your work!!!!!!!!!
  5. if you have time do extra problems in your textbook - just for revision/practice!
  6. redo old hw assignments - this helps in revision, esp. in topics like math where you have to physically work out problems to understand concepts; you don’t get math by just reading the textbook, you have to physically DO problems
  7. maybe invest in a review book - it helps some people, but don’t completely rely on it; you still should read the textbook
  8. flashcards are the bomb - they help solidify learning and because of awesome apps like quizLIT (hehe) you can learn/revise on the go
  9. ask questions - the teacher wont bit your head off- they’ll be grateful that at least SOMEONE was paying attention in class
  10. pay attention to the teacher - if your teacher seems to repeat some terms over and over again take that as a hint to revise that, lots of teachers have really effective lectures too and its just a good thing to show respect to others too
  11. make metaphors/analogies for EVERYTHING - for example, think of the declaration of independence as a breakup letter or try to string together events like the revolutionary war together in a narrative style; this helps with memorization of factually-dense topics like the ones in APUSH
  12. study grps are aMAZING - very helpful 10/10 recommend and check out my post on this too
  13. call a friend - don’t be afraid to ask for help. seriously. we all suck at things and its our job to get better
  14. relax once in awhile - you don’t need to study 24/7 to succeed. study smarter, not harder and TREAT YO’ SELF
  15. on the subject of music - listen to music if it helps you, but if you find yourself drifting off or enthusiastically singing to BTS’s new comeback, you gotta stop girl
  16. sleep - don’t pull all-nighters unless you need to; studies show that sleep helps in the consolidation of memories, etc. so get that sleep! that way you’ll be happier and more in the mood to study - its a marathon, not a sprint
  17. find textbook companion sites - very helpful, they usually contain self-quizzes and generally if your teacher uses the chapter tests provided, you can better tell what types of questions will be asked
  18. revise your mistakes - don’t just discard that test with the 94%, make sure you understand what you got wrong so you don’t make the same mistake again
  19. actively hoard your papers - old papers/tests/hw are the best review fodder so don’t loose it!
  20. track your grades - be on top of it always! if you have a missing assignment or if a teacher put in the wrong grade DON’T HESITATE TO EMAIL THEM
  21. find other resources when your teacher sucks at teaching - khanacademy is amazing. enough said
  22. YOUR GRADES DO NOT DETERMINE YOUR SELF WORTH! repeat after me: GRADES DO NOT DETERMINE SELF WORTH!
  23. self-care is important - if your sad tired or angry, YOU WONT GET ANYTHING DONE so do yourself a favor and take a nap or watch a movie, idk
  24. figure out what works for you - i like the pomodoro technique but other people do different things so just do what works
  25. you’re fantastic and you got this
“Writing a book is so easy” - Volume 3

Read the original viral sensation: Writing a book is so easy
The somewhat sensational sequel: Writing a book is so easy - the Sequel

Now, prepare for the third volume, the most in-depth behind-the-scenes of writing books yet…

Every book that you read has a story to tell. Not just the one in the pages, but so too the behind-the-scenes hell.

I documented what writing a book looks like from Day 1 to Release Day. The work never ends. You write wherever and whenever you can.

And when I say write, I mean, you have to WRITE

Like….DON’T STOP.

Here’s a secret: the more you write, the longer the book gets!

Sometimes you’re gonna be absolutely STUMPED. Like the entire universe is just being petty and conspiring against you.

When all else fails, drink coffee. Worship coffee. Sacrifice your first-born child to coffee.

Sometimes you’ll show up at your regular writing spot AND SOMEONE WILL HAVE STOLEN YOUR SEAT, THE STUPID, FAT HOBBITSEES

So you’re forced to write out of your element, totally distracted as you figure out ways to make it look like an accident…

And remember how your teachers always said you’d need to use math everywhere in life? Well, they weren’t wrong…

Every day, you persist. Inching closer. And closer. Every word pushing the story toward its close.

It might take a week, or a month or two or three, but every time you add another 10k, you can’t help but feel a swell of pride.

There will always be the days you miss writing, but that’s absolutely okay! Don’t beat yourself up! You can make time for it. Writing is art, and art takes time, and shouldn’t be rushed.

And one day you’ll sit down and stare at your screen and realize….the end is near. You can feel you’re closing in on those final words, those last sentences with the characters you’ve spent the past year with.

When you write those last words, a wave of relief will slam into you. You might shed some tears, because writing a book is difficult, and finishing the first draft is an incredible feat to achieve. Treat yo self. You deserve it.

Then…..take a break. Take as long a break as you need. Some people might need a month, some a year. Whatever your rhythm is, find it, stick to it, and never give it up.

No matter if you edit by hand or by computer, print out that first draft. Hold it in your hands, feel the weight of the words you wrote. The words that were stuck in your head for months, even years. Flip through those pages and look at what YOU created.

Then, when the time is right, edit that book.

Maybe you’ll finish editing a chapter in a day. Maybe it’ll take a week. For me, it’s usually an hour per page! Edit at your own pace. It’s not a race!

And then…..voila. You’ve edited the first draft!…….

If you have other books out, don’t let them fall to the wayside! Keep marketing, keep telling people about them (and showing them your work on the newest one!!), and get book signings and events whenever you can! Bookstores are ALWAYS looking for authors to feature. Just ask!

And of course, make it fun for yourself, too! Book flare and merchandise? Um, YES PLEASE.

Aaaaaaaaaaand now you need to focus again, and, you know, actually put all those edits in. Which usually turns into an entirely new round of editing in-and-of itself.

Keep putting those edits in….

And more, and more, and more edits…

Did I mention sometimes you’ll need to go to extreme lengths to fit in writing days?

Although art itself is so, so, so rewarding, we’re all still human. Some days will be more difficult than others. Some days, your mind will weigh you down. These can be the hardest days, but push through. Find an anchor and hold tight and take care of yourself.

Other times, you’ll be traveling! Take your writing with you. I find that when I’m on vacation, I’m a much more productive writer! The atmosphere is usually more relaxed. You’re not in a familiar place, so it gets your creative juices flowing stronger!

When you’ve edited your book a few times, FIND BETA READERS. These can be friends, followers on social media, or someone random you meet in your coffee/tea shop! Get fresh sets of eyes looking at your work! They will make suggestions, edits, and faun over your book.

Sometimes they’ll make corny jokes.

You will get a TON of feedback, and you will have to compile them all together, chapter by chapter, reading and considering every single comment and comma.

Your beta readers will love you forever when they finish reading your book. Guaranteed. Always. So in love. Yes.

Eventually, your beta readers will finish, and the countdown to publication will begin…

As you near the end, the Universe might have some surprises in store for you. Me? It took me back to the exact seat and window where I wrote the entire first draft of the first book in the series….a very poetic twist of fate.

Finally, the day will come when every major edit is done. When you’ve skimmed and scanned and combed and proofed. When you have a cover design and formatted all the pages to books, it’s time to order those first copies.

And then….the day comes….when your book finally arrives. You see the mail truck pull up and you see the boxes, and you just KNOW it’s for you.

And then you open them and look inside….

And you get to hold it in your hands for the first time ever…..

And you get to put it next to the other books that come before it….

And then you get to ship some of them out to ARC readers who will be reviewing your book before it’s released!!!!

And then you get order an entire shipment for upcoming book signings, and copies to send out to people who pre-ordered, and seeing them all stacked together will ALWAYS be a beautiful sight. Cherish it. Take a picture to show off to potential readers, that image of YOUR books all stacked together.

This is what writing is like. This is what goes into all those thousands of hours of sitting behind a computer. This is how books come into existence. It’s not the same steps for everyone, but the process for all of us is similar. It’s not easy. You won’t see a dime for your work for years, unless you already have books being sold.

But it’s worth it. Pouring your soul into writing a book, or making music, or graphic art… This is the beauty, the struggle, the dedication, the pain, the hours of lost sleep, the gallons of caffeine, the barista friends you make along the way….

Even though they might catch you in your candid element…..

But you will form a bond with them. They will learn your favorite order, have it ready the moment you walk in the door. And if you ever leave, it will be a heart-wrenching day…

They might give you a keepsake, too, to remember them by….

Stay humble, and remember every moment. Every experience. Appreciate everyone who helped you along the way, from giving you free drinks and food, to all the support and encouragement, to the avid fans who rave about your books. They’re all here for you, following your journey as you write.

For this particular book, the journey was 23 months, from December 2015 to October 2017. It takes a long time, even when you work every single day, and stick to a strict schedule. Some days you won’t want to write at all. Some days you won’t want to stop. That’s okay. Just hold true to your passion, and celebrate your accomplishments.

Don’t let anyone tell you not to write. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re doing it wrong. We all live through the same process, from the great artists to the starving artists. If you want to write a book, this is what it looks like. Though writing a book isn’t easy, the reward of holding it in your hands is worth the days, the months, the years. You will have created something beautiful. You will have created art.

Relationships with Prince!Tom

I was really in the mood for this so don’t blame me

Tags: @iamnesta@stormyparker (Tell me if you wanna get tagged!)

  • Let’s imagine that he’s the prince of England
  • Cause why not he’s British so yeah let’s go
  • He’d have a love hate relationship with the life of being a prince
  • He loved being able to do something for his country and the people in it
  • Yet he hated the part of having almost no privacy
  • Also the fact that a lot of people wanted him to marry another princess isn’t one of his favorite things  ( mostly from older people his family didn’t care tbh)
  • Most princesses he met we’re either totally stupid
  • Incredibly ignorant
  • Or were chasing after his money

  • And ladies and gentlemen he finally found that
  • In no one other than
  • Y O U
  • So you’d be at your local book store, needing some new goodies because you basically live in books (lmao me)
  • He was just walking around the store looking for some books who could may catch his interest
  • But when he saw you is heart would be like ‘imma just stop cause she’s stunning’
  • Like literally he would just stare at you
  • After some time you felt like you’d been spied on
  • So you turned around to see the prince of England staring you
  • And your heart would also be like ‘imma just stop cause he’s stunning’ (and bc he’s the prince so yeah)
  • Moments of staring at each other passed by awww when he’d finally have the guts to talk to you
  • “Hi, uhm, what book do you have there?”
  • His brain would be like
  • ‘‘What kind of question was that???”
  • You’d be all flustered and tried to come up with some actual words
  • “Uhm.. Well.. I, uhm… the g-great gatsby..”
  • You’d mentally slap yourself for stuttering so much
  • “That’s one of my favorite books. Really recommend it.”

  • After some time you’d both loosen up a little bit
  • Eventually you show each other your fav books
  • You’d be hella confused about the fact that he’s so chill and not ignorant what so ever
  • After you both bought a lot some books you’d leave the book store
  • You were about to leave but homeboy didn’t want you to leave yet
  • “Wanna go get some coffee?”
  • Your brain would be like ‘!!!!!!!’
  • Cause same he’s the prince after all
  • So you went on a lot of cute little dates from that on
  • Also book store dates were a thing
  • Or cute little picnics aww
  • You had to keep things kind of private cause well again he’s the prince
  • Getting used to having a bodyguard on your dates
  • His name was Dave and he’s the nicest lad ever

  • Two months passed by and he finally did it
  • He asked you to be his girlfriend aka princess aww
  • He’d be so nervous
  • Cause like, you showed him that you actually really care for him, and that’s not bc of his money
  • Again you’d be on one of your dates when he suddenly bursts out
  • “Would you like to be my girlfriend y/n?”
  • You’d be like ‘?!!!????!!!???!!’
  • “W-Wait what,I ,uhm….WHAT?”
  • “You’re the first person who truly understands me. You like the true me, not just the famous me. And I love you, so yeah.”
  • “You what?”
  • Your eyes would almost fall out of your head
  • “I love you, y/n l/n. With all of my heart.”
  • And then you were like fuck it and just kissed him
  • YAY A GIRL MAKING THE BIG MOVE GO FEMALES
  • Boy that kiss would be heaven on earth
  • Like he’d be so gentle cause he didn’t want to ruin anything ahhhhh
  • After you pulled away (may I mention he thought that it was way to fast for ending the kiss) you asked him
  • “Does that answer your question?”

  • Okay but you were so nervous to meet the family
  • Cause they’re tHE BLOODY ROYAL FAMILY AND YOU WERE SCARED THAT THEY WOULDN’T APPROVE
  • Tom taught you basic things of the royal life
  • Like how to stand the right way, handshakes, the right way to sit, dancing (oh mah gawd), etc.
  • He bought you this really pretty dress
  • Homeboy wants just the best for you

  • And then you met the family
  • And they were so nice!!!!
  • You embarrassed yourself every now and then but they never judged
  • Actually they think it’s really sweet of to you, how much you try to be perfect
  • “Y/n, darling no need to pressure yourself. I assume this is very new for you, but I’m pretty sure you’ll get used to it very soon.”
  • You highkey loved them
  • They secretly loved you more than Tom
  • Tom absolutely loving the fact that you love his family and that they love you

  • Also E V E N T S
  • He bought you to almost every event
  • If it’s possible tho
  • He’d lowkey loved to show you off
  • Whenever some would ask about you he’d have the biggest smile on his face
  • “So Tom, your lady. Is she really just a normal civic? Doesn’t that bother you?”
  • “Absolutely not. She really tries her best to fit in, which may I add she is really good at.”

  • Okay but Tom would be so scared of rumors getting to you
  • Let’s assume he was in other country and suddenly there were those dating rumors of him and that princess
  • Poor Tom would immediately call you to tell that they’re fake
  • “Love relax, I know it’s not true. Yesterday you told me how incredibly stubborn she is, so no worries.”
  • “I just don’t want to lose you.”
  • Your heart would be filled with so much love
  • “Trust me, you won’t get rid of me that easily!”
  • “Yeah, I won’t let you go now that I’ve got you. Never.”

  • I need this to happen in real life like Prince!Tom can hit me the fuck up!!!!!!

You followed Sebastian into the large glass building. He lived in the penthouse loft at the top floor. It was exquisite. Dark mahogany lined the floors of the ivory colored walls. Windows lined the walls facing outward and you could see the entire city from the front door, mesmerized by the lights downtown. You noticed the curtains lining the windows were pushed back, allowing for more privacy if so wanted, but not like it was really needed on the top floor of this building. The furniture was mod-inspired but still relatively new. The furniture looked like it had barely been touched, it’s ivory-mocha blend color matching well in the loft.

40 tips for incoming college freshmen
  1. “I’ll sign up for morning class because I tookclasses in the morning in high school.” NO DON’T DO THAT YOU’RE GOING TO WANTTO KILL YOURSELF
  2. If you can,try to spread your schedule so it’s 9-5. It’ll get you used to functioning atthose hours.
  3. Go to seminars. Pick up on some random shit. Impress people with random shit. But don’t be cocky.
  4. There’s literally no popularity so you really don’t have to fucking deal with cliques or anything just find your group and branch out and go from there.
  5. If you’re drinking:
    1. POUR YOUR OWN DRINK I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH
    2. Have a cup of water (or a bit of Gatorade) between every drink. You’ll never get a hangover.
    3. Don’t be fucking loud. Everyone hates the loud drunk and you’ll get the cops called on you and that’s bad shit.
    4. Don’t mix your liquor with other liquor and oh my God don’t mix it with anything else like drugs that’s just asking for a crisis.
    5. If your buddy is in a really bad place call 911. Don’t be that douchebag who thinks that someone can sleep it off.
  6. DO EXTRA CREDIT FOR THE LOVE OF FUCKING GOD NOT EVERY PROFESSOR OFFERS EXTRA CREDIT DO THE FUCKING EXTRA CREDIT.
  7. College is for expanding your mind. Talk to friends about their majors. Attend their events or art shows. Talk to someone you met about their religion. Take an English class on Lord of the Rings. Learn things you wouldn’t normally learn in high school.
  8. Love might come. It might not. Don’t worry about it and it won’t be a problem. You’re young.
  9. Don’t be the douchebag who plays acoustic guitar in the lounge.
  10. Have fun because you’re spending a fuckton of money to be there but do your homework.
  11. There’s a general rule of college that if you were sitting in that seat for over two weeks, that is your seat. Not many if any professors have seating arrangements but switching seats will fuck everyone up.
  12. Get there early and stay late. As soon as you get home you will not want to do shit. Stay on campus and do some homework while you’re in the environment.
  13. SIT UP FRONT. The best way to start understanding something is to listen to someone talk about it and you can’t do that from the back of the class trying to listen over everyone whispering to each other. LISTENING WILL MAKE HOMEWORK SO MUCH EASIER.
  14. Be childish, but be respectful. Have a massive snowball fight across campus, but don’t aim for anyone not taking part.
  15. SHUT THE FUCK UP IN THE LIBRARY. Some people work there, some people sleep there. It is a quiet space.
  16. Don’t be afraid to talk to professors. They are not there to flunk you. They would rather you pass than not.
  17. IF YOU NEED TUTORING GET TUTORING DON’T WAIT UNTIL YOU’VE DUG YOURSELF INTO YOUR GRAVE.
  18. Get involved. It will help you make friends, give you new skills to learn, and even help you get a leg up in the work place if you know the right people.
  19. Take time for yourself—buy a planner, figure out when your best study hours are, figure out WHERE you study best, and figure out how much time you need to complete an assignment—AND THEN make sure to pencil in an hour for video games, some time to watch a TV show, or time to just lay on your floor and blow bubbles. Whatever you like. Don’t forget about YOU.
  20. SLEEP. EAT. DRINK WATER. Don’t die. Caffeine =/= sleep. I cannot emphasize that this much.
  21. COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR INSTRUCTORS! If you’re sick, shoot an e-mail and say “Hey, I’m sick today. Can I set up a time to talk to you about what I missed?” If you’ve got a good opportunity (scholarships, to go to another country, to check out a cool lecture, etc.) let your prof know ahead of time. If you just need time to work on projects, all it takes is an e-mail. We understand. I gave a student a free skip day because he e-mailed me and said “Hey, look, I have two massive tests and a project due and I need the time to study.” And THAT IS OKAY
  22. Before signing up for classes, look on “ratemyprofessor.com" and see if the teachers at your campus are included. There may be two or more teachers for the same course, and you want to try and pick the good/easy one. Who your professor is can have a great affect on what grade you make, even for the “same” class.
  23. Look for a facebook group for your “graduating class” set up, which is a good way to make friends and find people with similar interests (particularly for introverts).
  24. Look for a facebook group for your “graduating class” set up, which is a good way to make friends and find people with similar interests (particularly for introverts).
  25. If no one else does it, make a google doc of the exam reviews and post it on the class facebook page. That way everyone contributes to the review. 200 brains are most definitely better than 1.
  26. During lectures, unless Internet is required, TURN IT OFF. If it’s on, you WILL end up on tumblr or some other site, and you will miss important shit.
  27. For the love of God, pay attention to your syllabus. Sometimes assignments are listed there, and that’s the only place it’ll be mentioned. Also, if it says to do a reading by a specific date, DO THE READING BY THAT DATE. Otherwise you will get behind, and you will have 200+ pages of textbooks to read in one night before the test, and you will cry.
  28. Yes you actually need to do the readings. Yes it is a lot. Yes it will suck. Do it anyways.
  29. If you are used to getting all A’s, do not cry when you get a B. Take it from someone who killed herself for two years to maintain a 4.0, it feels like the end of the world when your GPA drops, but it’s not. You’ll be okay. Just breathe and do your best. Your best is good enough.
  30. Try to make sure you leave an open hour around midday so that you have time to get food in you. A lot of people forget to do this. If you have to have back to back classes, check your syllabus or with your teacher—some midday classes allow you to bring in a drink and a snack. Some will even allow you a full meal.
  31. If you can get an online/pdf copy of the book without busting the bank, DO IT. Sometimes there are even annotated versions online. This can make notetaking a shitton easier, because you can highlight printed-out versions of the book and they won’t dock you on the money back. Sometimes professors move through their lecture too fast for you to write stuff down. Shrugging off that old ‘don’t ruin your books’ rule you had in high school may be your only hope.
  32. UNLESS YOU NEED THEM OR REALLY WANT TO KEEP THEM TRY TO SELL BACK YOUR BOOKS—maybe even offer them online to incoming students. You won’t get nearly the worth of them but someone after you will thank you a million times over for providing a used copy. If you take good notes, you can sometimes buy/sell those as well. A lot of professors teach literally the same class every time.
  33. IF YOUR PROFESSOR PUTS NOTES ONLINE GET THEM. GET THEM NOW. TRUST ME. YOU WANT THOSE NOTES. Bring them in with you if it’s possible to get them before class.
  34. Keep change on hand. Always.
  35. The Best Way To Make Friends:
    1. Bring a printer with you to college and offer to print people’s stuff for half of what the school does or for free if you can afford it.
    2. Carry around small candies with you and offer them to people while waiting outside of class. If you are the ‘candy person’ this gives you an in for starting conversations.
    3. Buy a jumbo pack of chalk and find an open sidewalk on a free day. Write the words ‘Come draw with me?’ and begin doodling.
    4. Have a pack of cards.
  36. If you go onto campus and you can’t find what you’re looking for, and you are afraid to go up to someone and ask, find an open, well-populated area, hold your schedule/map in hand, and walk in circles for a few minutes, looking up and around in obvious confusion. Other students know this body language well. Someone will stop and point you in the right direction. (if you are worried that the person’s directions are a joke or faulty, wait for them to leave and take up the stance again; if the directions match-up the second time, they’re legit; do not allow a person to ‘show you the way’ unless EVERY STEP is along an obvious walkway, just in case)
  37. For those of you who fear assault, most campuses aren’t much for small blades or mace. Carry a pocket air horn or a hand bag of those little pop-rock fireworks unless you can get a concealed weapons permit.
  38. Make friends with transfer kids. Chances are, they won’t be able to live in the dorms and it’ll be ten times harder for them to meet people since they have to drive to and from campus. It’s also fun hearing about their experiences before the college you both go to.
  39. Make friends with an older student. I’m talking about students who have families and full-time jobs. You can learn a lot from them, and they honestly have the best stories. They’re often the smartest and the most dedicated, so they make great study buddies.
  40. Your teachers are people! Joke around with them, talk to them a bit during break. Make sure they at least recognize you as “that dude with the god-awful puns during break”. In my experience, professors are even more willing to bend over backwards to help the students they know. (But also, in general? They want you to learn! If there’s a way they can easily help, there’s a really good possibility they’ll do it!

MITSU’S TOP TEN ANIME OF 2016

Wow what a shit year! Not for anime, I mean, it was okay at worst. I think we’re definitely at the upward slope of the anime renaissance now, but still at the very start of it. It’s hard to think about that when most of what comes out (and is somehow popular) is just…the most generic shit. Well, I did the work for you. I weeded and trudged through some of the worst anime around and even some of my shit favorites to bring you the actual good, worth watching anime of the year.

Yeah, not everything you saw or want to see on this list is here, but you can check my foreword from last week that explains all that garbage. Links to each anime’s respective review will be on the titles (and added for those that just finished). Know that this list is pretty fluid. From 8 or 7 up, it’s all very much I loved them, but the higher up, the more I recommend anyone watch them.

10. Magical Girl Raising Project

Madoka was cool. I finally watched it this year and I was just as blown away by the psychological aspects as I expected to be. It just lacked that extra bite it needed to really scare my pants off. MGRP however, did indeed take a few years off of my life. I’m really in ruins right now since I can grab you by the shoulders and tell you now: you’ll like a lot of these characters and their thought out designs and personalities, but don’t get attached, cus ALMOST ALL OF THEM DIE.

I have to put MGRP on this list because aside from its fun and original designs, awesome interactions, cool-ass premise and execution (sometimes literally), it had some amazing rewatch value. I watched this anime three times, which is a lot to do in one year. I just had to watch people’s reactions and seeing stuff hidden in the background and revisiting some foreshadowing was so much fun. Definitely worth a watch and I’ll cover more about it in my upcoming review.

9. Orange

Regrets, like I have over not putting Kekkai Sensen into last year’s list, are the main theme of Orange. Buried under the shoujo themes of romance, high school, and angst, lies the actual regret: letting a friend kill himself. The main story unfolds itself very slowly as the group of friends discover that is what they must prevent, but it’s done in a realistic way. The signs of depression and suicide are so jokingly cast aside; it’s no wonder people miss it before it’s too late.

The climax of this story was heart-pounding and gut-wrenching. You find yourself rooting so hard for there to be success, to save someone who may not want to be saved, but must be saved. It might also make you pay closer attention to those around you. It’s an important anime to watch. If you do want one with a little less romantic emphasis though, I recommend you see Colorful instead (or also!).

8. Sweetness and Lightning

I need to marry someone who can cook. It doesn’t have to be a five-star chef, though I wouldn’t complain if it were the case, but Sweetness and Lightning reignited my need to be fed well. The show is about how food brings family and friends together. Aside from the great character interactions, well written children characters, and for god’s sake, the beautiful, perfect looking food, this anime was so pure in the amount of love put into it.

The food tops even some shown in Shokugaki no Soma, purely cus it’s doable for someone with a low skill level (like me), the meals are made for picky eaters (like me), and there’s not a ridiculously emphasis put on the orgasmic nature of food. That’s a thing that Shokugeki no Soma and even Koufuku Graffiti used stylistically in a comedic manner, but it doesn’t fit in Sweetness and Lightning for good reason. This show is accessible in that way, making it easier to show to someone who might want to try anime, but doesn’t want all the sexy fanservice.

7.Drifters

Kick-ass and Metal come to mind when Drifters is mentioned. I love Kohta Hirano’s previous work, Hellsing, a lot. It was a massive gore and blood fest with a sprinkling of comedy in the mix. This is a war and gore fest with a, not a sprinkling of comedy, but more like Hirano accidentally knocked the bottle of comedy over when he was checking on the oven directly into said mix. It’s really funny, but also really awesome. I have a lot to say about it in my review, but I think a dog fight with dragons involved kind of state my case for me. Also Elves, Dwarves and other Tolkien demihumans and monsters abound. It’s fun.

The animation is also gorgeous, especially that stylized, graphic novel looking opening theme with the rock anthem “Gospel of the Throttle” making you “NA NA NA NA NA NA” along with the characters every opening. It’s an excellent show to watch with friends or get yourself pumped. Returning sometime next year!

6. Kuromukuro

How can something be so trope-y, yet so damn enjoyable? Kuromukuro isn’t an original concept, but is done in an original way. The samurai trapped in a machine for 500 years is the new exchange student. The reluctant heroine needs to board the mecha to fight the alien threat. The school festival has been compromised by an alien mecha entering the atmosphere. This anime is funny, but it’s also emotional and holds a much wider scope than I ever could have expected. P.A. Works has been putting out some good contenders in the last few years, and with their lovely art style and well-balanced budget, they were able to pull off this massive mech story in an engaging and entertaining way.

I applaud the cast for one of the best ensembles on this list, bringing forth some of the best and most memorable character chemistry of the season, and some hilarious situational humor. I also cried a little near the end, but honestly, a lot of anime on this list did that to me this year.

5. My Hero Academia

Shonen anime is such a delight now, always a favorite of mine as a kid, but not as firmly as now. I love the underdogs; I love the over the top villains; I love the powers, the fights, and the yelling to infinity. It’s just so exciting and blood pumping, and MHA made it so refreshing with such an interesting spin. These characters are children, inexperienced, with quirks that may or may not be useful. I love Deku because his anxieties and general feelings of being less than everyone else not only make it exciting to see him overcome them, but to use them to keep his head and ego from getting over inflated like some shonen protagonists. Bakugo is such a good foil to him, showing where this could be a major weakness to a shonen protagonist.

Also it’s coming back with THE TOURNAMENT ARC, and if you’re like me and haven’t started the manga yet, DO IT! You won’t regret it! I’m more than excited to see more of this awesome anime in action.

4. Flip Flappers

This anime, wow this anime. I’m so upset not more people are talking about it, but have you seen this delight for the senses? I’m looking forward to reviewing it now just because my jaw is still kinda on the floor. Beautiful animation, a crazy cool style, and some of the best nonsense in magical-girl but not really fight scenes I’ve seen in a while. This anime reminds me of something, but I can’t quite put my thumb on it. I do know it’s like an amalgamation of my editor’s anime “TYPE” so you’ll see more about that in the review.

But good lord did I love the heart of this show. The pure romance, the exciting battles, the trippy psychological horror. Let me just say, that one episode (the Maria Watches Over Us “GOKIGENYO”), probably has scarred me for life, but I love it. It’s just so different and good. It deserves a watch, just for how delighted your eyes will be.

3. Erased (Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi)

I love a story that can get you emotionally invested and cheering for or yelling at the character who you don’t have any control over. Erased was paced beautifully (though some might disagree due to the slight differences in adaptation), and its animation only made every silent, tender moment more enjoyable to look at before the lighting and mood would change and the feeling of bloodlust would stain the air. That’s how you write suspense.

I’m a little annoyed because apparently some other people were reading some character motivations “differently,” (looking at you crunchyroll), but I think it’s safe to say this doesn’t cross the line into romance, at all, and stays a thriller about growing up in a life-threatening situation.

2. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu

I love the theatre, and I love comedy and storytelling. This anime manages to hit both of these points while showcasing some of the best animation I’ve ever seen. On top of the animation, there’s good directing, and supporting that is a great soundtrack. The story is vast and covers several characters’ lives over several decades surrounding World War 2.

The rakugo, though, is what makes the story. It’s not the first anime to touch on this topic, but it’s the first to do so in such an interesting way. It was very refreshing compared to a lot of titles on this list (though many of them are refreshing ideas!) with its originality. It’s heartfelt, it’s serious, it’s funny, but it also makes me want to cry. If it weren’t for the top spot being so hype as hell and generally a weekly freak-out among me and my friends, this would have been number one.

1. Mob Psycho 100
What can I say about Mob Psycho that hasn’t already been said? Its opening is gold, its animation is unique and interesting, its writing, directing, and characters are all praise-worthy. It is just hands down the best anime of the year. You may be thinking, “but Mitsu, One Punch Man was number one LAST YEAR. Isn’t Mob a little overhyped?”

No. Sit down and shut up. One is probably one of the best writers on the scene right now and is doing a lot better at writing genuinely empathetic characters and commentary on modern anime genres and tropes than most of the big budget barf fests. I think the “overhyped” talk is nonsense when it comes to mob. It genuinely does some interesting and groundbreaking work. That’s why it’s not only on this list, but number one. It never moved an inch since I decided it should be on the list.

Everything I’ve said has BEEN said by several really good reviewers and critics out there and you should definitely check out what they have to say about it too, because honestly, they’re a lot better than I am. I like Mob Psycho, I like One Punch Man, but I like Mob more. I’m so delighted that One Punch Man will be returning shortly and I only wish for Mob to also share the spotlight, as it deserves.

empressharuhi  asked:

If we buy the jacksepticeye cube headed figurine from his store, does some of the money go to you? Or is the only way to give you money to buy stuff directly from your store?

I’m supposed to, yeah, though I haven’t actually spoken with them in a while but don’t worry about giving me money! I make next to nothing off the shirts on my merch store anyway, so only buy those things if YOU really want them! The “best way” otherwise would be either though Patreon (which would charge you whatever amount you choose, per animation I post) or just straight up donations during streams.

But as I said, don’t worry about it! I’m lucky enough to have a job that pays the bills, and the Youtube-stuff I do for myself adds a little extra here and there. Buy yourself a dope new Hogwarts-themed coffee cup instead! :D

Of course I’m always super grateful if anyone WANTS to show a bit of support, it’s always very flattering, but I just wanna be clear that I don’t NEED it, which is why I don’t really like to bring up, or push, my Patreon etc. There are plenty of smaller creators who actually need any help they can get, just to get by, or alternatively there’s always the Humble Bundle which gets both you some games and forwards money to charities. But I appreciate the sentiment :)

Opportunities to Meet People In College

Before Move-In

Admitted Students Days.
Your school/uni may have these under a different name, but days where you can go to get to know more about the academic programs and campus activities.

New Student Send-Offs.
Casual gatherings hosted by alumni of your school/uni who live in your region.

People From Your High School.
Maybe you know people from your high school who got into the same college as you. Knowing some familiar faces can make adjusting to a new environment easier.

Class of 202_ Facebook Groups.
Student-moderated Facebook groups for prospective students. Be sure to look for the one that is moderated by current students at your school/uni. There are some that are affiliated with businesses and posts a lot of advertisements. Once you join, make a brief post introducing yourself. You’ll get better responses if you’re specific about your interests (talk about your favorite TV shows/movies/books, your major, what you’re looking forward to doing in college, etc).

Contacting your Roommate(s).
You’ll need to contact them anyway to make sure you guys know what you’re bringing for your dorm. Eventually, you can talk to them to get to know them better. Ask about their interest, but also ask about anything you should be aware of (e.g. allergies, sleeping/studying habits, etc).

During/After Move-In

Helping Others Move In.
Maybe someone's struggling to move a heavy box or needs some tape to hang their photos on their wall.

Keeping Your Door Open the First Couple Days.
Maybe one of your floormates will notice your cool collection of band posters and you two can bond over your similar music taste!

Orientations/Welcome Week.
Meeting people through activities or department-specific informational sessions the first couple days after move-in.

Joining Clubs, Sports, Fraternities/Sororities.
This one speaks for itself.

Creating/Joining Study Groups.
On the first week of class, ask your classmates if they’d be interested in creating an online study group, a place where you can share notes, ask for help, or get information about the classes you’ve missed. You can make a GroupMe (recommended for smaller classes) or a Facebook Group (recommended for bigger classes) or any other social media you see fit.

Good luck next year! Remember that it’s okay to be nervous. There will be lots of people adjusting to a new environment just like you!

Stuff from the RTX 3D Animation panel

[You can view the panel here!]

A bunch of this is off the top of my head after watching the video myself, so I may have some details wrong: but feel free to watch for yourself and correct the notes! These are things that stood out to me

  • RWBY and Chibi is animated in 24 Frames per Second (which is pretty standard for 2D Animation as well)
  • RWBY Volume 4 and RWBY Chibi Season 1 were major experiments in getting used to animating the shows with Maya, and the new production pipeline it needed
  • (Poser was Monty Oum’s staple software for animation, but very niche compared to Autodesk Maya, which is currently the industry standard for 3D Animation)
  • That said: Beginning with RWBY4, all the character models and their rigs were redone from scratch to be compatible with Maya, moving from using Poser.
  • RvB’s Season 14 episode, “Mercs” was also a major experiment in tools, lighting and shading that they’d be using going forward with RWBY Volume 4.
  • Volume 4 Episode 1 was late coming out last year because it was being worked on right up until release. The exported file was actually ready to upload to the RT site at 9AM (the episode was to be released at 10AM), but it couldn’t be uploaded until much later that day, because there was too much traffic from sponsors excited for it!
  • RWBY’s backgrounds are rendered with the engine, “Redshift” while the characters are rendered in 3DS Max with the “Pencil” plugin
(which is similar to Blender3D’s “Freestyle” rendering)
  • RWBY Chibi has/had a lot of freedom compared to other animated productions- with Chibi Season 2, they’ve tightened up some parts of production like animatics and audio.
  • Gray has provided temporary audio for many episodes, until they could get certain voice actors to record: Like Cinder Fall, voiced by Jessica Nigri, and Neon Katt, voiced by Meg Turney. Paco says that Gray is really good at it, and some say they can’t unhear Gray’s rendition of Neon from animating to the audio so long.
  • In RWBY, facial expressions and lip-syncing are hand keyed with the audio, but in RvB, external lip sync software is used.
  • Certain bloopers and extras are created by animators who just have spare time and fun
  • Certain Extended Scenes can be added to the Blu-Ray versions of the series, but not the DVDs because of disk space. RvB14 is one of the only seasons where they couldn’t fit all of the content onto DVD.
  • The animators voice how they liked working on “Mercs” because they didn’t have to animate the Halo Spartan Armor
  • Because the animators have had better opportunity to get acquainted with Maya and their production pipeline, they feel that they’ll be able to push more of RWBY Volume 5′s animation and do more experimenting with classic animation principles (such as squash, stretch, smears, anticipation, etc.) as well as pushing RWBY’s 2D Anime-inspired aesthetic even more.
  • Paco says that they view the feedback on websites like Reddit, Twitter, the RT Site, and strive to improve based on it.
Advice For The  Signs
