you make this world a better place

anonymous asked:

Sanzu still looks like a person to me, so do you still care for him?

* I don’t. My latest problem is that Blublu, very literally the opposite of Sanzu and very much everything the world needs, developed a kinship with him.

* Thing is, messing with Blublu’s well being comes at the price of making the world a better place. I feel like my hands here are tied. Or, more literally Sanzu’s until I figure something else out.

in case you need to hear this, too:

you are making the world a better place by being in it. not only that, but you have the capability to continue making the world a better place. the world has one more good person in it because of you. with so much evil around, that makes a difference. you have the capability to continue making the world a better, softer place. you have the power to do that.

Sending hugs and comfort.

We just heard of the attacks in Barcelona, Spain and Turku, Finland. Our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of those who lost their lives.  We wish the injured a full and quick recovery.

We also wanted to thank all those who help others in times of peace and in those of crisis.  You’re the ones who make this world a better place for everyone to live in.

in search of softness

(sorry for the long post but this Hell Site wont let me put a read more in for Some Reason)

just finished the adventure zone finale and….jeez. cried myself a stomach ache

rly glad i got into it last summer and got to watch it wrap up a calendar year later, nice coming in a circle thing?

but like, wow, im very glad it ended the way it did and it gave me all of those nice douglas adams and terry pratchett vibes and im glad this story exists in the world

stories about the specific kind of found family that is like

“the world is an absurd, unpredictable, and often inhospitable place but somewhere in it you will find Your People, and you will make a small and good and earnest and bright thing with those people, and that thing may be an actual tangible thing or maybe the thing is bringing those bonds into the world and those good vibes into existence. but, regardless, that thing will be Yours and you will be better for it and because that thing exists you will be able to stitch up all the wounds this bizarre and often terrible world has given you. the search for and the maintaining of Your True and Good Thing is what makes waking up to survive and push through another day worth it”

will always be my kryptonite

it has the same kind of vibe that i think some of the best night vale episodes had and i wish i had transcribed joseph fink’s answer to the q i asked at an interview panel once bc its that same thing. about people surviving the shitty times and making the good times regardless of whether the bad times are cancer or if they’re unknowable monsters.

what makes me call a story “kind” or “soft” has little to do with whether like the characters are nice (what a loaded word that i have lots of asterisks about) but like, if the story depicts that sort of thing and gives people material with which to tell themselves “yeah you know ill be okay”. works and stories are kind if they can do a kindness of fortification and catharsis and comfort to those who read them

i think tabletop rpgs can be really good at telling that kind of story and that’s why ive been drawn to them for over five years

on one hand they are by definition a collaboratively crafted story. you and your fellow players build something together and share in it and can sometimes work through stuff  (i.e. my first dnd character for working through feelings of inadequacy/being not enough/ being too dumpy)

but its also the case that like, because a lot of rpgs follow the structure of “these people coming together and being pulled into a shared narrative” they can be REALLY good for telling a story about a hurt and hurting group of people with their own baggage looking to find healing and hope and a happy ending and often finding that ending or at least support on their journey to that ending in each other

i think the best shadowrun, d&d / pathfinder/ dungeon world/ any-other-murderhobo-game, and also monsterhearts are good at this kind of narrative

(monsterhearts is especially good for helping characters grow together and begin to put a name to their feelings and their identities)

i liked taz because it was a piece of rpg media that took this concept to heart. taz ends with people coming together and rebuilding and getting their just rewards and it really hits close to home. it gets this softness and hopefulness in a way i was afraid as a fifteen year old rpg narriatives never would and that honestly caused me to be was told i was stupid/dumb/didn’t get it because i wanted that kind of narriative.

im so glad to have met so many people thatre super important to me through taz because it let me find other people who got that softness

its super cool that starfinder began on the same day taz ended esp because as soon as starfinder was announced i began working on a starfinder inspired oc project w/ a dear dear person i met through taz

Barcelona t’estimo ♥

After all the terror my people, my country, is going through, after the fear we live in Europe which have been suffering terrorism attacks constantly, I can’t help but think which world we are leaving to the future generations. Of course I take into account what is happening in USA, Africa, in the Middle East… But I guess I’m just another selfish person and until the horror hasn’t hit home, I haven’t thought about what an awful world we live in.

Nevertheless, I think there’s still hope. That if we stay united, if we stick together and don’t let al this things bring us down, we can keep going, we can make of this world a better place. Yes, I know this might seems too positive, too dreamy… But let me tell you something, today I’ve cried for two things: one the pain, the fear, the feeling of  impotence while seeing what has happened in Barcelona and Cambrils; but I’ve also cried seeing the solidarity of the people, all the people that has helped the affected ones. Blood donors, people in their holidays who has returned to help with anything (doctors, interpreters, journalists…), people who have opened the doors of their house, the offering of free rooms in hotels, free food and water, free taxis services… All that kindness has given me a bit of hope.

Anemone, hydrangea, sunflower, tulip and lavender please. Sorry, very curious. Have a beautiful day! :)

Aww thank youuu :)

Anemone: How old were you when you first started writing?
I was 13 when I first started writing fanfics. I started with HSM 🙊

Hydrangea: What inspired you to begin writing in the first place?
I’ve always loved how impactful words are. My first role model was J.K Rowling and her words brought me (and so many others) into this world where I could just forget my troubles. I wanted to do that for myself and so I started.

Sunflower: What is the best feedback/ compliment you’ve ever received regarding your writing?
I honestly love all feedbacks that I’ve received because they are so nice and positive. (Shoutout to @madelinecoffee, @imaginarybird, @spamiam77 and @stydiariarkle for always leaving comments that make me want to be better) The ones that make me feel best are the ones who let me know that they have read the fic a few times.

Tulip: What is your favourite writing blog that you feel deserves more followers and reads?
Oh, gosh, there are so many but the two I can name right now are @sand1128 (her Fall of Friar series is one of my favs) and @madelinecoffee (her poetry hits me in the heart)

Lavender: What is the most important thing to you as a writer?
I think it’s important to handle certain issues with depth and to decide which stories are yours to tell and which aren’t.

If you want to make the world a better place for mentally ill and neurodivergent people, get into the habit of shutting down people who mock/laugh at/sneer at “odd” or “weird” but harmless behaviour. Just refuse to laugh with them and say “That’s not funny.” or “They’re not doing any harm.” Do this whether or not anyone who’s directly negatively affected hears it. This is both about protecting people from ableist verbal abuse, AND about teaching ableists that their attitudes are not being tolerated and that you’re not going to bond with them over ableism (or, hopefully, any other form of oppression).

Try to pay special attention to taking care of yourself. If you’re hungry, feed yourself. If you’re tired, take a nap. When you’re ready to take on the world each day, get out there and shine your light! Create positive affirmations for yourself, and say them at the beginning of each and every day; things like;

Today will be an amazing day!
Today I am filled with energy and love!
Today I will give it my all and go to bed leaving the world a better place!

It’s astounding how things as simple as words can impact our beliefs. Please try to make moment to do this; whether it’s in the shower, on your way to work, or before bed. Even if you don’t believe what you’re saying, you must continue, for sometimes it takes a while to alter one’s attitude and state of mind.

When I read “Satan as the good guy” texts I of course came across the two main satanic groups Church of Satan and The Satanic Temple.

Neither group actually believes in Satan (or God for that matter) but they both use him as a symbol of defiance.

Church of Satan is of the “Do what you will, there are no rules, but try not to be a dick” mindset, while The Satanic Temple is more of the “Try to make the world a better place, respect other’s freedom, fight back against oppressors” mindset. Both also have a great respect for science.

Church of Satan is responsible for the Satanic Bible and has rituals and black masses as symbolic gestures, while The Satanic Temple mostly just have “rituals” for fun, like their pink mass where gay people kissed over the gravestones of noted homophobic people. The Satanic Temple’s main thing is fighting for women’s right to abortion, protecting children form corporal punishment, gay people’s right to marry and religious freedom.

They are not entirely Tumblr friendly though because they believe that you can say whatever you want, even if it’s deeply offensive, as long as you don’t harm people. So you can say women should have no rights, but if you try to take their rights away there will be trouble.

And if you’re wondering where all the goths went, look no further than the Satanic groups.

Q&A Transcript with Alex Hirsch at MomoCon 2017

Question: Before you decided to make Bill the main bad guy, did you have another character in mind that would have been the villain?

Alex: Yeah, um that’s a good question. Uh, so, when we came up with the villain of the show, I knew that… I knew that Bill was involved. And I knew that Ford had disappeared due to some deal gone wrong with some villain next to the mystery of how Gravity Falls was all assembled.

Um, but, I didn’t yet decide that Bill was that character in the very beginning, y'know? I had always imagined it was some sort of evil character somewhere kinda hidden in the woods. I wasn’t sure I could go with the Bill idea cuz I thought it would be too much like Twin Peaks, but as we got further along the series we discussed it among the repairs and we were like, ‘none of our other villain ideas were as good.’ Bill, Bill was weirder than anything else we thought of. Um, I remember there were other ideas. Strange monsters and government officials; some kind of cthulhu– some weird crazy old man. But nothing was ever better than Bill, so it ended up sticking. Probably somewhere around, y'know, season one– midway through season one, we started thinking we might be– might be on point.

Q: Was Grunkle Stan ever aware of McGucket’s connection to his brother?

A: Oh, oh that’s such a good question. Wait, let me think about that for a second… Uh… lemme see… I don’t think so. I don’t think Stan was ever aware of McGucket’s connection to his brother. Because, by the time Stan traded identities with Ford, uh… McGucket had already gone off the deep end– Was already y'know, had already created the Society of the Blind Eye; had already lost his own memory. So Stan would’ve really only known McGucket as a local obnoxious fisherman.

And McGucket, probably somewhere deep in the back of his mind, was eerily just drawn to Stan in a way he just couldn’t put his finger on, because he thought maybe he knew him, but– I don’t– I think Stan was ignorant of that. Um, I think Stan… I think Stan looking through the journals probably should’ve put two and two together, but Stan’s not the best at book-learnin’. Uh, so… my guess is Stan wouldn’t have known despite that uh, that there’s a lot of tumblr art out there showing them as like the Scooby-Doo gang. I don’t think Stan ever really knew McGucket before.

Q: What episode do you believe came out the strongest and the most well rounded overall? And is it the same as your personal favorite episode?

A: Oh gosh. Um. That’s a great question. Hmm… I probably feel, personally, that the strongest episode is uh, “Not What He Seems” just because it’s such a dramatic episode. Like, we know– We’ve never had an episode that dramatic. But, when we first pitched it to Disney executives… they thought it was bad. [laughs] Um, Because it didn’t have a lot of jokes in it? Like, I remember normally when we’re pitching our episode, executives can usually gauge how good they are by how much people laugh. People didn’t really laugh for that one, because it’s really tense. So we thought, maybe we’d screwed up. But, when the animation came back we were like, 'Oh! It’s GOOD that it’s tense. Like, it worked!’ Um, So, I dunno if that’s my favorite episode, but I think– that’s the episode we should’ve won an Emmy for, and I’m still pissed we didn’t. [laughs]

In terms of favorite episode, like… I dunno. I think the first episode that I really felt that the show was really starting to feel the way I wanted it to– “Time Traveler’s Pig” in season one. Like, that was an episode where Dipper had an interesting story, and Mabel had an interesting story, and uh, felt nostalgic, and based around the summer, and had a big secret callback to even previous episodes, so– I just remember when we first just got that episode back in color, I was like, 'hey I think maybe I like how I’m making this cartoon show,’ so I think that has a particularly fond place in my heart, y'know.

Q: Is Disney bringing you to SDCC or NYCC later this year to promote the journal and other books coming out?

A: Right, um, yeah, Disney– Disney… Disney-general and me, have like– we’re divorced. Like, they kept the house, and the pets. Y'know what I mean? It’s… we don’t like get dinner or anything. But, the Disney Publishing department, separate from Disney Television, they’re really cool, and enthusiastic, and energized. And they wanna make new cool stuff. Um, so I think it’s possible I might be at D23 this year, and it’s possible I might be at Comic Con, but I don’t have anything confirmed yet.

Q: In the scene where Bill is trying to convince Ford to join him in the Fearamid, were there any other jokes or story beats that were considered?

A: Which episode specifically are you talking about? [Q: The We’ll Meet Again scene.] Yea yea yea, We had a– Every scene that you’ve ever seen in the show has a ton of ton of stuff we’ve thought of and had to cut for time or other reasons. Um, I remember there was definitely a version of that where Bill was a lot trickier. Like, he sort of more successfully lied to Ford about like: 'We’re actually going to make the world a better place. Though I present myself as this chaos lunatic that’s just my personality.' Like, 'here’s ways in which we’ll IMPROVE the universe.'

Um, but it felt out of character. We thought it was much more like Bill to just draw smiley faces in oceans and eat the sun and just– hope, that the force of his charisma could convince Ford that that was a good idea. But uh, I feel like– I feel like Bill can be really really tricky when he wants to, but by the time Weirdmageddon showed up he’s so impatient, and he’s so convinced that he won, that he was no longer like, this brilliant chess master he used to be. He’s like, 'alright let’s do it! Do what I want or I’ll eat your face.’ Like, no more– No more, like– He wasn’t as smart a tactician as he used to be, y'know?

Q: Was “We’ll Meet Again” always the song you were going to use?

A: Oh yeah, it had to be that. It was like… I think I’d just seen Dr. Strangelove recently around that time and it stuck in my head. It seems to me, if Bill has a taste in music, it would be, like, old timey music that ranges from either weird to obnoxious to obscure.

Uh, Disney wanted me to cut it cuz it cost them a bunch of money to get the rights, even though it’s so old, it still cost them money to get the rights. And I just… said, please. Over and over and over again. I would send an e-mail that just said, 'please.’ And send another e-mail that said, 'please.’ And I would send another e-mail that said– Yeah. [laughs] Eventually I wore them down that they’re like, 'alright we’ll spend thousands of dollars.’ [laughs]

Q: Are real comics coming?

A: You want comics? Would you read Gravity Falls comics?
[Audience screams]
[Alex leans his ear forward]

A: It’s a terrifying noise isn’t it, Michael? I was at a… Gravity Falls gallery, and like, they didn’t tell us how many people would show up, and it was like, THAT noise echoing from every corner. And uh like, I think I lost a year of my life. My hair started going gray, and it was like, 'oh my god, this is too much love! It’s terrifying.'

Comics. I would love to do Gravity Falls comics. Um, I have so many… One of the tough things about a half hour show like Gravity Falls is every now and then we think of an idea that we really liked, but it was too short for a half hour; 'oh that’s only five minutes of story’– Or it’s too specific and weird. And so I have tons and tons of ideas of the show that y'know we’d like to explore this character, we’d like to show this secret, this storyline. So, I’d love to do comics. But, that’s up to Disney Publishing, and I’m trying to convince them. So, hopefully, I’ll have something exciting to announce in not too long.

Q&A with Stan and Soos

Q: Is Dipper adorable or manly?

Stan: Dipper smells like baby wipes. Even if I cut off all my shoulder hair, and taped it to him, he wouldn’t be 1/10th as manly I am.

Q: What would you do if Mabel told you she had a date to prom?

Stan: I would… invite the gentleman over, have some coffee, tie him to a chair and interrogate him for 10 hours, and maybe throw him in the pit. [shrug] Hands off my neice, kid!

Q: What would happen if Soos met Giffany again?

Soos: Oh yea, I recently downloaded this couple’s therapy sim? Uh, I think she and I would have to talk about our issues and pass around a conversation pillow, and really work out these struggles. Cuz she’s got some problems, dude.

Q: Soos, why are you so perfect?

Soos: Yeah, uh, my grandma said that a whole bunch of doves flew down and formed the shape of a perfect angel over my crib. I dunno, dude I guess I was just born that way.

This isn’t really a fuck anyone, just something that happened and I want to share with others out there so maybe they’ll also start doing the same.

So I’m a cashier, and recently I had noticed that when I have a blind customer who pays with cash, each bill is folded differently so they can feel which bill is which. After noticing that, I decided to start handing each bill one at a time based on type of bill, and letting them know which bill I’m handing them.(I’ll give them their 10, then their 5, then tell them I’ve giving them their two 1s, giving them the chance to finish putting away the previous bill before I give them the next one)

Every single time I’ve done this, I’ve had them be happy and surprised and complimentary, about how that was really nice and useful and how I must have experience to know to do that. Today I had a customer say “Now if everyone was more like you, the world would be a much better place. So many times, the cashier will just shove all the change and receipt at me!”

Until I had put together the dots of how they had all of their bills folded differently, I never would have even thought about it before. It was just chance that I noticed it, and decided to try handing the change back differently.

So, not really a fuck customers. Maybe more of a fuck ableism? And maybe with other people reading this, they might start doing the same and making things a bit easier for their blind customers when it comes to change.

disney meme [7/9] characters➞ judy hopps
“ hey, officer hopps. you ready to make the world a better place? ”

I think it’s important to always be kind to people. To just do whatever you can to make someone feel like they are special too. Because isn’t that all that matters in life; the little things? Besides, you never know what someone is going through. I think that the world could seriously change if we would all be a little bit nicer to each other. So, do your best and you’re already anticipating in making the world a better place.
