When you smiled, the world caught fire, in yellow and orange and red.
When you smiled I melted inside and fireworks filled my head.
When you smiled, my heart took charge and beat back my frightened brain.
For when you smiled, I was transformed, never to return again.
But when you frowned the world turned cold; dark, ominous and gray.
When you frowned I tried to hold on, not let you slip away.
When you frowned I yearned for you, to hold you, rescue you.
For when you frowned, the world upended, and I was tossed up too.
When you smiled the world was righted, the glowing warmth returned.
When you smiled you shone like the sun; you radiated, you burned.
When you smiled, so did I, for nothing filled me with such joy,
As seeing you happy once again, my beautiful amazing boy.
But when you frowned, you retreated in, and I reached after you.
When you frowned, I was lost, unsure of what to do.
For when you frowned, all I wanted was to see your smile.
So when you frowned, it became my goal to bring it back for a while.
I know I can’t stop every frown. I can’t cause every smile.
I know I that I am a world away, and won’t see you for a while.
But I will always do my part to keep the frowns at bay.
And fill your life with beautiful smiles, every single day.
