you are my actual favorite on this show

One of my favorite shots I got of Hugh Panaro during the second half of the phenomenal Philly POPs “Blockbuster Broadway” show.

He came down through the audience during the Phantom of the Opera number, singing to Alli Mauzey, who was up on stage. He practically stood on top of me where I was crouching in the isle.

If you check out the Philly POPs website you can actually see me with my camera raised in some of my co-photographer’s shots of this moment.

hermione-mak-gilmore  asked:

I don't love Buffy as much as everyone else who watches BTVS does. She's not a bad character or anything, but personally she's not one of my favorite characters and I'm not really attached to her. I think it's because Buffy doesn't seem to have any flaws on the show, and my favorite characters are very flawed. (I know you disagree and I'd love to hear your thoughts!)

My little sister actually dislikes Buffy for a lot of the same reasons you do! She doesn’t like that Buffy was always the one to fix everything, and that her friends are basically lost without her. Even when I told her that show literally is “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and is about her, she notes that she doesn’t like how all of the plans she makes goes accordingly. When in reality…they don’t.

From the very beginning, she is seen to be very flawed. She wastes time taunting Darla when fighting her that she doesn’t note Luke sneaking up behind her. She literally straight up tells Giles that she doesn’t care about humanity; she just doesn’t want to die. At several points in the series she lashes out at her friends when she’s going through something major, and while that is perfectly understandable, one should note that the simple act of TALKING can help a great deal. When she sticks her mind to something, she does it, despite everyone else voicing their concerns. She hid Angel from everyone when he came back, she literally told everyone that she would kill anyone who’d touch Dawn, her relationship with Spike was abusive on both sides, she led a group of girls into a disaster in “Dirty Girls”, etc.

Yet, the thing is, many people might point out that any mistake Buffy makes is HOUNDED upon. She literally gets severally punished for it. Her “friends” literally ganged up on her in front of the entire school, during a party she did not want to have. She got kicked out of her own home because of her plan against Caleb. Anytime she wants to have sex there’s always some major consequence (apart from with Riley, and even then there was the whole “Where the Wild Things Are” episode). During Season 6 Giles literally left her because she needed help, and she apparently shouldn’t need help. Dawn guilt tripped her for not being present enough in her life during a lot of Season 6. It’s these things that make Buffy appear very sympathetic, and her friends the flawed ones. In many people’s minds, Buffy did not deserve a lot of this. And things like Buffy being right all along about Caleb makes her seem like a saint, and her friends so villain like.

So I can definitely get where you’re coming from. I personally think Buffy is deeply flawed although still a great role model. I guess on a feminist girl power show, Buffy, the protagonist, needs to be a times superior to others. She is the Chosen One after all!

Definitely with you on the trash favs! There’s nothing so good as to connect with someone who shares many of the flaws you do!

All I fucking want is for someone to explain in what universe, after everything they’ve been through together, does Sherlock point a gun to himself

and John is like

instead of stopping him?!

And in what universe is John fucking drowning

And Sherlock’s like

And people are wondering why are so many fans upset, why they were rooting for this to be a fake episode? Yeah, among other shitload of things, you just basically killed these two characters and everything they used to stand for, for the sake of a soap opera/horror movie plot, no big deal. Why, why do this? If you love these characters you wouldn’t do this. I’m just so sad, this is not “Sherlock” anymore. I have the right to be upset, my favorite show has been mutilated beyond recognition. damn right I’m gonna rant about it.

| Welcome Back Smooch |

So like I finally watched Voltron and as everyone has told me IT’S TOTALLY AMAZING? It’s blown my mind with how amazing this show is and I can’t wait for season 3.

Also if you couldn’t tell from the doodle I’m in love with Shallura. Allura and Shiro are actually my top two favorite characters as well.

things you should definitely 100% not think about when you think about philip shea (except do because philip shea is perfect and you should always think about him)

- Okay, first of all, don’t think about how Philip was literally almost shot and actually did literally beg for his life for a moment and allowed himself to be scared about that for approximately .5 seconds before sucking it up and remaining seemingly calm for pretty much the rest of the show (except for when he realized tommy and tracey were in danger. because philip shea cares about other people. but once they are gone, he accepts it quickly and moves on. that is philips’ like number one skill. accept and move on. don’t think about why that is).

- Don’t think about how he somehow got to the city in the middle of the night and then didn’t even risk going inside. Don’t think about how he just curled up on the couch outdoors as if this was a common, acceptable place for him to sleep and passed out, alone, after almost being killed.

- Don’t think about how he goes from saying “I’m done. can’t go back, can’t go back there” to accepting he can’t live with him mom again in approximately ten seconds. He doesn’t argue too much about it. Doesn’t beg or plead or threaten to run away. Just says “I know” and gives his mom cigarettes and then sits and comes out to her because she wants to hear nice things about him and to him, lukas liking him back enough to kiss him is a nice thing.

- Don’t think about how when given the opportunity, Philip will sit next to a man who has almost definitely abused him and just do nothing but pretend the guy likes him.

- Don’t think about his honest confusion when he asks “Why not” after Lukas says he didn’t have sex with Rose.

- Don’t think about how Philip is so calm and willing to do or be whatever the person he loves (read: his mom and Lukas) needs him to be. I mean, yes, he tells Lukas no that one time and calls him on his shit other times, but really, overall, the kid is willing to put himself on the line for those he cares about: “Had to be cool for my mom—I can be cool for you to.” “What do you want me to say? I’ll say whatever you want.” Ugh, he just—he tells Lukas not to drink the hand sanitizer but then three seconds later he does the same thing, no questions asked, because Lukas tells him to. Don’t even get me started on the whole Rose debacle.

- Lukas freaks out when Philip hands him a condom, Philip minimizes it and says “It’s okay. it’s okay, it’s fine” coaxes him back down and no more pressure to do anything. Philip tells Lukas he told his mom about them, Lukas says “There’s nothing to say” and Philip just nods quickly, “Okay.” Doesn’t argue. Doesn’t call Lukas on anything. Just says okay and then offers to take Lukas into the city cause he thinks that will help him.

- Philip won’t get Lukas drugs, but he will help Lukas look for things to sell when he asks and go with him to the pawn shop and wait outside while he does it.

- And, like, I’m not saying this to say Philip is a pushover or weak, he’s not- he’s just contained. All the time. He is the stable one. The calm one. He is careful not to push too much. He thinks of solutions and waits to see if they will actually be listened to but is very, very cautious with actually being assertive with his ideas/wants/needs. He is just so much more attuned to everyone else.

- Oh, ALSO, don’t think too much about how Philip overheard Gabe and Helen arguing about him and chose to step out and put himself in that line of fire anyway. He could have just hung back and waited a little. Or, fuck, run off until things cooled down. But Gabe was being yelled at and they were arguing and so he decided to step in. Cause Philip wants to keep everyone happy.

“Another great issue of RHATO that builds on the previous issues but also Jason’s overall history in the DC universe. Jason’s time in Arkham and the skills he learned there to cope with his trauma come into play in a major way while his relationships with everyone are tainted by his experiences with Bruce. One of my favorite things about the issue is how it shows that Jason is very much the heart of RHATO, and not just because his name comes first. He cares for his team, even if they don’t realize that they are a team yet. It’s astounding when you think about Jason’s background and all the truly awful things that have happened to him and it’s what makes this book stand out. Yes, almost every hero in the DC universe has had some epically bad trauma but few have been through the brutality that Jason has endured on both a physical and emotional level and still find it in themselves to give a damn about the world around them. That he does is pretty phenomenal and makes the character, and the book, one of the more complex and truly heroic ones out there.”

aww, that was a really sweet episode (perfect for the season too!). Its so nice to not only have a new SU ep, but for it to bring all the Gems together (and Greg + a newbie)

Lots of cool stuff from this ep, finally meeting a member of Steven’s human family (which the crew hinted at at SDCC this year), learning that Universe isn’t Greg’s original last name, confirmation that Greg and Rose were never traditionally married (which is so funny because just yesterday I was looking at some old posts where we were discussing it and I was thinking “I wonder if the show will ever actually state it” and then pow, they did)

I think “Garnet says not to lick stuff I find on the ground” is one of my favorite lines, but Pearl’s “Since you love marriage so much, we thought ‘why don’t we all just marry each other!’” was pretty great. Also I love that birth, marriage, and death were the decorations they got because those are human things

Anyways, yes, really great episode! Very cute and sweet and just really what I needed right now. Thank you, SU <3

merry pitchmas, @brittany-snodes! you are definitely my #gifspiration, so i’m glad i get to show my gratitude! here are a few songs i think we would find on the ipod of your (and my) favorite bella, & in case apple music isn’t your thing here is a spotify playlist that is fine-tuned to chloe beale’s taste :) happy holidays!

@russianspacegeckosexparty and I have talked about this pretty regularly, but the marvel fandom is and always will be a giant racist cesspit, like most fandoms unfortunately are.

Adam asked his mutuals/followers to make a game out of going into the Wakanda tag on ao3 and check how many fics there actually involved and focused on black characters and not the fandom’s white faves. I found one so far.

I also found a fic that exists solely to remind me how much the fandom continues to hate black people, as the whole paragraph long premise is to show how much smarter Tony is then everyone in Wakanda. Naturally the klandom crawled out to share their love and support of this fic, including my favorite comment so far.

“Thank you for this. I hate all Sues, including Wakanda-Sue. Really, nothing about that frigging country is realistic from its economy, technology, cultural heritage, cat religion, etc. How did this country develope in isolation? Vibranium doesn’t miraculously raise everyone’s IQ. A modern country run by a king in a black cat costume? Is their military the best in the world, cuz they should have invaded a hundred times by now. If it’s so damn perfect, please knock yourself out leading the free world. The US has its own damn troubles. Oh wait, they are cowards and hypocrites, hiding and not sharing their tech with the rest of the world. Why didn’t they land a man on the moon first? Where is their cure for Ebola or HIV? Why did they not get involved in Hutu Tstsi civil war that decimated millions? Or Rhodesia? Or Khadaffi wrecking Libya The questions just add up.    Yea, I get it. It’s PC attempt to make an African country be a first world marvel. But it’s not even remotely plausible. I’ve gone from meh, to the whole place can FOAD. I want someone like John Wick to mow down the Dora. I want Tony to nuke it from orbit, just to be sure. So thank you for bringing this sanctimonious place to its knees. Please do more to humiliate them!”

Honestly it’s a really long paragraph just to say that you hate black people, including wishing that a white billionaire war criminal would commit nuclear genocide just  to get rid of them.

But it’s also telling that you hate us that much.

Timmy Olyphant on Conan [4.27.16]

bonus: for reasons

It’s almost that time again, when the weather gets warmer, and we’re dragged along by our families on mind-numbingly long road trips to places we don’t actually care about. Ah, the joys of summer vacation. Fortunately, for those 8 hour bore-fests, podcasts have your back! My family travels a lot, so I decided to share my favorite podcasts to keep y’all company on the road (ノ・ェ・)ノ

Our Fair City: An insanely vast and detailed show that takes the term “world building”, and shows it it’s maker (which is, of course, the ever benevolent Hart-Life Corporation). Filled with more colorful characters than you can shake a stick at, Our Fair City had a variety of  intertwining stories and beings that will steal your heart, and possibly your science equipment for various nefarious purposes. I’m only on season two, and am still extremely impressed with the effort that went into creating the world of Hart Life, and the many characters that inhabit it. You’ll have more than a few favorites, especially Dr. Herbert West, who manages to capture both the unbridled joy, and sinister dark side, of everything science. If you like classic old-time radio and the apocalypse with a twist, this show is for you.

ars Paradoxica: Time travel is this show’s bitch. No, seriously. Set in an alternate history-afied 1940s, ars Paradoxica handles the often-complicated trope of time travel with grace and creativity, providing several twists you won’t see coming. Starring my newest fictional wife, the utterly adorkable Sally Grissom, the show features some stellar voice acting, and continuity down to the tiniest detail. It actually finds a way to subtly use transitions like an actual TV show, and the sound effects are just killer. Once you start binging it, the story grabs ahold of you and utterly refuses to let go. While the pacing is a bit speedy, the drunk scientists in Vegas plotline is well worth it, and sets ars Paradoxica at a must-listen for any podcast fan.

The Bright Sessions: Before I begin, I just want to say that I wish my therapy sessions had been this exciting. The Bright Sessions is the audio recordings of Dr. Bright, a psychologist who specializes in the atypical. And by atypical, I mean superpowers. For those who like science fiction, but with a more slice-of-life feel, The Bright Sessions is a treat. It features a surprisingly complex antagonist, that pesky corrupt corporation that keeps showing up in podcasts these days, two female characters that I really wish went to my school, and an adorably awkward teenage romance… between two boys. Yep, this show has queer representation, and deals with it like it’s just a normal, everyday thing, which it is. Along with a very soothing atmosphere, when plot bombs aren’t being dropped, of course, The Bright Sessions is a great show for fans who want a unique take on what it means to be out of the norm.

Wolf 359: So, y’know that mood-whiplash podcast that literally everyone has been talking about? Yeah, that’s Wolf 359. Following the audio logs of loveable asshole, Comms Officer Doug Eiffel, the show is bar none, the best fictional podcast out there. No shit. It has everything you could possibly want: cool adventures in space? Check. Found family trope used to perfection? Check. Insanely complex characters and sympathetic villains who really make you question your own morals? Check. An even gender divide and strong female characters written the right way? Check to the max. The show deserves every ounce of praise it gets, and then some. The writing is witty, smart and thought-provoking, the soundtrack is gorgeous, the cast is insanely talented and wonderful and I love them all dearly, and the fandom is the best I’ve ever been in. I am not an emotional person, but this show has made me break down sobbing, and have trouble breathing from laughing so hard. Everything about it is incredible, and I implore you to give it a listen. You really won’t regret it.

Alice Isn’t Dead: Anyone who listens to Welcome to Night Vale has heard of this, and I’m here to tell you that it’s worth the hype. Alice Isn’t Dead follows one woman’s country-wide search for her wife via a truck, and that search gets dark, fast. Jasika Nicole once again does a masterful job of bringing her character to life, the writing is just as profound and weird as you’d expect from Fink, and the whole has a very creepy Americana feel that I like a lot. The story is just beginning to unwind, and whoo boy is it one that has me hooked.

The Black Tapes Podcast/TANIS: I’m grouping these two together, and both are worth your time. The Black Tapes Podcast follows cinnamon roll reporter Alex Reagan, and human ball of awkward darkness Richard Strand, as they unravel the mystery of the Strand Institution’s mysterious black tapes, a collection of unsolved cases involving the paranormal. It’s very creepy, very complicated, and very good. Both characters have secrets, and both are interesting as heck. TANIS is Alex’s producer, Nic Silver’s, quest to to discover what exactly the myth of TANIS actually is. He is joined by “information specialist”, Meerkatnip, who could beat me up and I would thank her. In terms of mystery, they end up getting a lot more than they bargained for, and you will too.

Limetown: Lia Haddock, investigative reporter for APR, is precious and perfect and must be protected at all costs. Unfortunately, she has literally no self-preservation. About 10 years ago, a research town out in the prairie called Limetown, caught the attention of the world when, after a 911 call, became completely void of any people. Now, with survivors contacting her and the mystery unfolding, Lia is doing literally whatever it takes to uncover the truth. The mystery and science fiction genres blend very nicely here, and there are several twists that shocked me. The writing is very gripping and neat, and the various survivors were all a treat to listen to. If you liked Serial, you’ll love Limetown.

Wooden Overcoats: Move over Cabin Pressure, there’s a new British podcast sitcom in town, and it’s great at being great. Wooden Overcoats follows the shenanigans of twins Rudyard and Antigone Funn, and their assistant Georgie Crusoe, as they engage in a pathetically one-sided rivalry with newcomer Eric Chapman over who is the best funeral home on the tiny island of Piffling Vale. Oh, and the mouse is the narrator, and she’s awesome. All the girls are, actually. There’s character development galore, snappy dialogue that had me kneeling over with laughter, a really neat and well-developed setting, and oh yeah, it’s British. Plus, the mayor and the reverend hook up, and it’s sickeningly adorable, and also gay. Everyone is so well written, and I honestly cannot gush enough about how wonderful and funny this show is.

EOS 10: As my friend Keelin once eloquently put it, EOS 10 is like Scrubs in space with conspiracy theories. Also, pretty much no one is completely straight. Following the most unorthodox bunch of medical professionals I have ever witnessed, plus one deposed prince-turned saucier, and a not-actually-terrorist who is thirsty af, the show features the headache-inducingly-insane happenings on EOS 10, an intergalactic travel hub set far in the future. And yet, we still have anti-vaxxers. Sorry, society. On the bright side: found family trope! Canon queer characters! A wonderful and awesome main romance that I ship like fedex! Mature and insightful handling of addiction! Girls who could kick my ass and I would thank them for it! Did I mention that everyone’s a little bit gay! Also, an autistic-coded main character (fucking fight me on this istg) and more conspiracies than Jane has hobbies. Everyone is so likable and well written, the comedy is pitch-perfect, and the world-building is really great. Oh, and the plot kick-starts in the episode where they have to fix an erection that won’t go away. It’s my second favorite podcast out there, and I implore you to give it a listen.

“You said ‘Broch Tuarach’ means ‘North Facing Tower.’”
“Aye.”
“Well, it’s round. It doesn’t have a face.”
“The
door faces north.”
“Ha. Frasers. I’m beginning to feel like– Like I– I actually belong here.”
“I knew you belonged here, with me, almost since the first moment I laid eyes on ye. That’s one of the reasons I agreed to marry you.”
~ Lallybroch [1x12]

“We returned to heal in the peace of the Scottish Highlands… the daily routines of Lallybroch worked like a tonic on our battered souls.”
~ The Fox’s Lair [2x08]

“He took me to his own home – Lallybroch, it was called. A beautiful place.” I shut my eyes again to get away from the look on Brianna’s face, and deliberately summoned the image of the estate of Broch Tuarach – Lallybroch, to the people who lived there. A beautiful Highland farm, with woods and streams; even a bit of fertile ground – rare for the Highlands. A lovely, peaceful place sealed within the high hills above a mountain pass that kept it remote from the recurrent strife that troubled the Highlands.
~ Dragonfly in Amber

I had never actually had a home. Orphaned at five, I had lived the life of a academic vagabond with my uncle Lamb for the next thirteen years…
It was strange, then, and rather wonderful, to wake up in the upper bedroom at Lallybroch, next to Jamie, and realize, as I watched the dawn touch his sleeping face, that he had been born in this bed. All the sounds of the house, from the creak of the back stair under an early-rising maid’s foot, to the drumming rain on the roofslates, were sounds he had heard a thousand times before; heard so often, he didn’t hear them anymore. I did.
