Found your post randomly. I'd like to say, as a proud Deist, former catholic and with family who are witnesses... At least from my own experience with the lot I know from your religion, they're religious crack pots. The congregation had seedy scandals, and it was boring when I eventually attended one of the sermons. Your religion isn't wrong, but to me, from personal experience, it's hard to see it as little more than a cult. Not trying to be offensive at all though. Just from experience.

Hey. Well, I don’t think I’m a kool-aid drinking, crack-pot cultist. And there’s thousands of architects, fashion designers, artists, doctors, musicians, and teachers that feel the same way.  Jehovah’s Witnesses are *gasp* REGULAR PEOPLE. We have lives…we go to work and hate Mondays…we stay up way too late and regret it in the morning…we listen to stupid (yet oh so catchy) pop songs…we participate in fandoms (where my Disney fans at yo). And, by the way, I’m crazy…but that has nothing to do with my beliefs.

  1. JWs don’t blindly worship a figurehead/leader.
  2. JWs aren’t forced into the religion (baptism is completely voluntary i.e. no child baptisms).
  3. JWs are not forced to make financial contributions with collection plates or tithes. Donations 100% voluntary.
  4. JWs don’t believe in a burning Hellfire.
  5. JWs believe in the Bible as a guide rather than give into the demands of spiritual leaders.

So, I’m curious what your definition of “cult” is? If you think that Jehovah’s Witnesses are a cult then I guess you must classify all religious denomination as cults? Cause there’s lot of things in that list that other religions actually do.

It’s a shame that you got such a poor impression of our religion through the congregation you attended. I’ve never experienced what you saw. I won’t negate your personal experiences, but scandal is not what reflects our religion as a whole. I’ve had the privilege of experiencing the unity and peace in our religion across national and geographic barriers during our international convention. (Yeah, we have conventions where we not only listen to Bible-based sermons but go sight-seeing, eat at restaurants, and socialize with international JWs friends. Real boring and cult-y I know…) And what religion can honestly say they’re free from any problem or scandal? Yes, I believe my faith is the truth; I wouldn’t be a part of a religion that I didn’t think was true religion and divinely directed. However, that doesn’t mean that the JW organization is infallible or free from mistakes….especially on the person-to-person level. Jehovah’s Witnesses are only imperfect…problems will occur.  I try not to let personal, minor issues I have with other JWs affect my relationship with Jehovah God, because people will let you down. I always say…God’s word is perfect but people are not. Beyond just human imperfection, people who are outright abusing and disrespecting God’s place of worship will face justice ultimately “what’s in the dark will be brought to light” (luke 8;17).

It’s hard being a JW for sure, but what other Christian denomination can say that they are preaching all over the Earth in hundreds of languages? That’s what Jesus Christ started and that’s what JWs are doing today. I believe in the Bible, because I just can’t believe that  a loving God would hide himself from us, act mysteriously, or give us Holy texts that have truths mixed in with lies. That’s just my personal opinion. Thanks for reaching out.

Heartache on the big screen
5 Seconds of Summer

It’s amazing, how this song is so catchy yet so emotional, if you really listen to the lyrics you would realize just how upsetting this song really is. My favorite line would have to be either

‘Started out like in the movies, but it ended like a bad dream’

'This ain’t a movie that i wanna see, a tragic story, starring you an me’

Actually scratch that, i can’t even choose a favorite line!

But i love when Calum sings the words 'fast’ and the word 'home’

Everybody get up
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

If you can’t hear what I’m trying to say
If you can’t read from the same page
Maybe I’m going deaf,
Maybe I’m going blind
Maybe I’m out of my mind
[Pharell:] Everybody get up

OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you
But you’re an animal, baby, it’s in your nature
Just let me liberate you
Hey, hey, hey
You don’t need no papers
Hey, hey, hey
That man is not your maker

Merry Christmas to all of you lovely people!

I really wanted to post a christmas thingy, so here it is, Doctor Who style, because I really love this song (so catchy, yet so angsty). I always imagine Astrid singing this about Ten and Rose… Anyway, I wish you all happy holidays and hope you are having a wonderful time!
