Archangel Diamond, お疲れ様でした!!

it’s late so maybe i’ll get away with this text post somehow unscathed but you know what it’s still gross to stan a baby like jesus f–ing christ. i feel vaguely more lenient toward ppl who are doing it genuinely and not as some kind of aggressive one up on l*rries or whatever (tbc that second group is most ppl on here tho) but like. i literally still see people with abouts saying “fr*ddie is my fave member of [the band]” or calling themselves his vodka aunt or whatever and hand on my heart, i don’t care what kind of band-related conspiracies you do or don’t believe, that is gross and creepy behavior ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

can i just say something?

when I was a kid, I told my mom that I wanted to be an actress when I grew up. You know what she told me?

She said, “sure, but you’re going to have to do it in China. America won’t hire you if you’re Asian.”

And that was it for that dream.

Of course, that was just a phase - one of many, one I would’ve gotten over anyway. But what she said stuck to me. You’re going to have to act in China, because America doesn’t hire Asians.

And if there’s anything I learned over these years, it’s that she was right. Asian-Americans don’t get to see ourselves on screen. We don’t get to read about our deeds. And we get pissed. We complain, we shout, and people dismiss us because, oh, “the Japanese are okay with Ghost in the Shell”, and “I’ve heard that mainland Chinese are perfectly fine with Iron Fist.” Well, great for them. This isn’t about them.

This is about us. Asian-Americans. Asian-Canadians. Asian-Australians. Asian hyphen something. And the Asians in Asia don’t understand - because they can’t. They’re surrounded by media portrayals of them. They never have to fight for representation because it’s always there. They have no idea what it’s like to live in a country that sees you as other, and then to have to go back to your home country, to have your parents tell you “this is you, this is your culture, your heritage” and you look upon the faces of your family and you see nothing of yourself in them.

Asian-Americans are not the same as Asians who live in Asia. We live in a different culture. Our values, our beliefs, the experiences that shape our lives are separate.

We want to see ourselves in western media because it’s what we grew up with. It’s what surrounds us. Sure, we can watch K-dramas and anime and Chinese/Taiwanese/Japanese/whatever dramas, and a lot of us do, but it’s still not us

We shouldn’t have to go watch Asian dramas just to see a part of us represented. We shouldn’t have to move to Asia just to be hired.

We deserve to represent, and be represented, as ourselves.

HAHAHAHA that’s Sidon for ya! The man has the spirit of a thousand puppies!

It seems like Sidon becomes really EAGER when he see’s a hylian near by. I believe the reason has to be because of his first encounter with Link. Also, there’s barely any hylians who tour by the zora’s domain due to the obsessive rainy weather so it’s quite rare for Zoras to encounter Hylians.

I don’t think people realize what rare and beautiful gifts really good full AMVs are.

Like… that’s hard. Really, really hard.

Something I’ve learned is that the longer you’ve been editing, the more time it takes to make an edit, which is probably the reason AMVs can take literal months to make, and most vidders usually cut the songs down and/or make short edits.

To keep up consistently good timing, clip choice, pacing, transitions, effects, and possibly even masking or typography over give or take three and a half minutes of song is a huge challenge.

It’s generally considered to take three hours to edit one minute of a movie. Apply that here, and we have it taking about nine hours for a fairly short AMV… and given that we don’t get paid to make these, and have to wrestle with hitting every single beat of the song, it can take much longer.

And we also have to keep our motivation up, find time to edit, not grow to detest the song, and struggle with technical difficulties. All of that is really grating.

I’ve been editing for a couple months over a year now, and, while I started out making almost exclusively full AMVs, I can’t do that anymore. I’ve improved a lot, and by this point, using the whole song is intimidating and requires a level of dedication that I could not possibly achieve every time I edit.

It’s been literally a year since the last time I’ve edited a full-length song that I didn’t trim.

So if you find an awesome full AMV, appreciate it! Tell the vidder that you love it!

I’m honestly just so in awe of AMVs and the people who edit them. Vidders are really badass.

Cherish them and their work.

I just got home from watching Spider-man Homecoming. Oh my GOD.
BEST. SPIDER-MAN. EVER. FUNNIEST MARVEL MOVIE EVER.
The people were not joking. I’ve never so laughed this much in my life.
The amount of times I said “Holy SHIT” and “Oh my GOD” and “Awww” was horrendously alarming. I came into the cinemas with high expectations and it exceeded it. Oh my god. GUYS. WATCH IT. TOM HOLLAND WAS AMAZING.
