You trudged through the rain sullenly, your canvas shoes soaked all the way to your socks. While thankful that school was over for the day and the weekend was beginning, you couldn’t help the sour feeling that washed over your skin and left goosebumps in it’s wake. Your fingers curled around the handle of your umbrella tightly, teeth chattering as you sped home and took as many shortcuts as possible. The only thing to look forward to that evening was a warm, dry house and hours spent with your computer screen. Not so good for a college student, especially on a Friday night, but it wasn’t half bad in your opinion. You stumbled through your front door, kicking your wet shoes and socks off and swapping them for house slippers. A long whine for your family escaped your lips, feet tapping softly on the group as you scoured your home for some form of life. In the end, a messily written letter from your father about a business trip was found pinned on the fridge, as well as some cash left on the countertop. You sighed softly, pressing the pads of your fingers to your temple in distress. It had been a long time since you spent a weekend home with your father, but as long as it was work, you couldn’t argue.
The sound of typing bounced off the empty air around you, eyes scanning the details listed on the chat site you had somehow had found yourself making an account for at 9:28 at night. Nothing was doing it for you beforehand, whether it be youtube videos or news articles, and you figured trying out something a little out of the ordinary could be fun. Besides, you were an adult, you could handle yourself. Or at least that’s what you’re going with. Brows furrowed and pupils shaking in experimental excitement, you hastily typed in a screen name. Maybe just using your name for a user wasn’t exactly the most creative thing you could have come up with, but it was a good start. Your eyes scanned over the chat options, looking at the options for rooms to enter. There were several different types catering to varying interests but you settled with a simple one titled music. What could go wrong in a music chat room? (The answer is A LOT, but let’s just ignore that.) Your eyes lit up as you watched a string of messages appear before your eyes, with everything to music video links to threads about music theory. This is something you could get used to, you smirked. Hesitation sparked in your stomach, but you let your fingers run over the keyboard on their own, typing a message somewhere along the lines of, “is anyone interested in Monsta X?” You received a reply almost instantaneously from a user titled as Unknown. You blinked a couple times at the message in front of you. Who only replies with something as simple as yes? How boring. A playful sneer met your features, as well as a scoff slipping from your lips. For someone with such a mysterious user, you were unimpressed. After a few minutes of staring at your screen, unsure of what to do with yourself, a private chat notification appeared at the edge of the screen.
“Hey, nice to meet you.” You read aloud, quirking an eyebrow at the words. This unknown guy really doesn’t miss a beat. Curiosity got the best of you and before you knew it you were pressing send.
Another notification dinged.
Unknown: Well, aren’t you clever?
What a tool. Nevertheless, you couldn’t help admitting that it was a little fun as a smile pulled your lips into a crescent. Two could play at that game.
You: Have to say the same for you. The whole “Yes” thing earlier really got me hooked.
Unknown: I figured it would, no one can resist my charm. I’m Il Myung, by the way.
A small laugh bubbled up from your stomach as you recited the name. If he was going to make a fake name, he should have just done something… normal. What a weird kid.
You: I’m pretty sure that doesn’t count as a charm.. Unique name, btw. I’m y/n.
Unknown: Just call me oppa then.
You: Cheeky… How do you know I’m younger than you? I’m in college, you know.
Unknown: I don’t
You: Start calling me noona then, brat
Unknown: How old are you?
You: How old are you?
Unknown: Stubbornness isn’t cute
You: You’re not cute
Unknown: You don’t know that.
You were having quite a bit of fun with this stranger and you were growing founder of the gentle banter between the two of you by the minute. By the next morning, you now had the chatroom app downloaded onto your phone. The previous night you had stayed up quite late messaging your new friend about everything from the type of shoes you both liked to what scent of candle you preferred. Over the next few days, the messages grew more and more. From just a quick hello as you were on the train heading to run some errands and a couple questions about some homework, to full blown conversations spaced throughout the day.
You: Il Myung-ah, I’m going to school again. I don’t want to go~
You sighed a little as you typed this monday morning, quickly attaching a picture of yourself with a pout on your face with a couple decorative stickers placed strategically. Your father would be back home the next evening for dinner and although you hated to admit it, you were rather enjoying the alone time. You missed him like hell, but it felt like Il Myung had taken up a lot of the loneliness in recent days.
Unknown: Don’t go, hang out with me instead~
You: You wish, I’m not going to skip class for a loser like you
Unknown: I’ll buy your lunch, I have something important to say anyway.
You: Deal. But I’m a little nervous, what if you’re a stalker? Let’s meet somewhere busy. It will be my first time seeing your face, are you scared?
Unknown: Do you want to meet at a shopping center?
Heat licked up your skin, a sudden blood rush sending your adrenaline to new speeds. Your first time meeting Il Myung? And skipping class to meet him? This would arguably be the coolest thing you had done since high school, plus your father would never find out as long since he was out of town. It couldn’t hurt… You got off the train at the next stop and followed the directions google maps gave you to the shopping center Il Myung had recommended. After standing around outside in front of the bustling area for about fifteen minutes, a light tap on your shoulder made you jump. Your head tilted a bit in confusion, eyes running over the figure in front of you. Dressed in all black with a cap on and a mask covering the bottom half of his face.
“Il Myung?” You inquired, watching him nod back quickly.
“Why are you dressed like that?” You questioned, pointing at his get-up that stood out starkly against the bright colors you were wearing. What else were you expecting though, especially from someone you met online?
“This is what I had to tell you.” He replied, with a voice far deeper than you were expecting melting against your eardrum. Your eyes tried desperately to keep up as he removed his face mask gently, standing very close to you as so no one else could see.
“C-Changkyun? From Monsta X?” You practically shouted, causing him to press a hand over your mouth gently, shushing you as he dragged you off to a less populated area, hand-in-hand.
After you had calmed down a bit and you two had begun walking in the direction of your home, you could still feel your fingers trembling as you fisted the fabric of your jacket.
“Is this really happening? I’m so confused Are you sure you’re Il Myung?” You fretted, looking over at his face several times more as everything really began to register.
“Of course I’m sure, I can’t believe you haven’t caught on. Il Myung. Im Changkyun. I.M. You get it? He chuckled, hands in his pockets as his eyes scanned your facial expressions diligently.
“B-but… But.. You’re a celebrity, why the hell did you come out here to meet me? You’re a fool, Im Changkyun, a real fool.” You whined loudly, giving him a playful smack on the arm before turning onto the street where you lived. Given the situation, it wasn’t especially safe to be wandering around Seoul with a celebrity in hand, so almost immediately you had decided to give him shelter in your home for a couple hours. Getting mobbed wasn’t on your to-do list. Especially if you’re supposed to be in class. You felt pressure around your wrist as Changkyun pulled you toward him, your lips only inches apart.
“I’m a fool for you, then. I met you today so I could confess to you properly.” He muttered lowly, gasping you to gulp from the dryness in your throat.
“C-Confess?” Before you could continue, a pair of lips were on your own and your eyes were widening at the sensation. The warm sensation overwhelmed your whole body, cheeks reddening horribly. It seemed along the way of getting to know and develop a crush on Il Myung, you had also developed one on Im Changkyun. After the two of you parted, you fanned your face quickly, trying your best to look away from him which hardly helped. Your ears were definitely red too.
“So I’m taking that as a yes?” Changkyun smiled, slipping his hand into your own.
The day ended over tea in your living room, the two of you talking about all the time leading up to now, and he even revealed the photo of yourself you had sent that morning was now his phone background.
“You know at first, I really thought you were a tool.” You mused causing him to laugh a bit, eyes crinkling up at the edges.
“Why did you keep talking to me?” Changkyun asked sweetly, lifting an eyebrow in inquiry.
“I guess you could say I ventured into the unknown.”
