it’s andrew giving in to an impulse he’s been fighting off because he knows deep down kissing neil would not be anything like kissing roland. because he cares about neil and he hates it but he knows that there’s no turning back now
it’s neil figuring out that he really does wantthis but still unsure if it’s worth the risk
it’s andrew saying ‘tell me no’ and neil not saying anything because he’s kind of in the middle of a crisis and he wants to kiss andrew, he doesn’t want to say ‘no’ but he can’t say ‘yes’ yet either
and it’s andrew pushing neil away even though he doesn’t tell him ‘no’ because he didn’t say ‘yes’ either and he knows that even if he had neil isn’t in any state of mind to be able to give consent
that kiss on the roof is the start of everything and andrew is terrified of falling but he’s really too late to stop it
the thing that gets me most abt mcu’s Lie is that,,,, there is 100% a way they could have had steve lie to tony and have it play out in a way that was 12049354859x more impactful and devastating and relevant to their actual character development. bc the way mcu chooses to go abt it, it just makes steve come off as a dick as far as tony is concerned ?? we get no insight into his thought process or his motivations re: tony, all we get is a ‘i’m sorry you were hurt’ letter and Fuck That tbh. if ur going to go this far to hurt someone i want to see actual emotional repercussions and the Guilt play out in real time.
bc it’s not like steve didn’t have His Reasons to lie to tony, i’m never going to deny that, i sympathise w/ his motives. tonys across the multiverse have lied to their steves, or committed sins of omission for a greater purpose, but we always saw how those emotional ramifications fucked them up. we saw the motivation + the aftermath of the Lie, the actual remorse they felt. they chose to do the bad thing and lie, knowing they’d hurt steve, but we always saw them struggling with the choice and Suffering for it. when these two lie to each other, the outcomes of not telling that person in the first place always manifest in much worse, much more volatile and destructive ways.
apart from a less shitty apology letter, mcu’s format doesn’t allow them to pull a ‘confession’ extra where the whole truth comes out and we see how badly steve was effected by What He Did. instead, knowing that they were building up to cw in the first place, mcu should’ve given us a friendship worth breaking apart in the 1st place. like my god, actual screentime or cinematic cues through the screenwriting/blocking/execution of scenes that showed us steve making this choice between honesty + keeping tony in the dark, steve being aware of, for starters, the huge impact the starks’ death had on tony. bc for fuckin real, you can straight-up lie to someone u consider nothing more than a coworker but u can’t then turn around and say ‘u know what i was trying to spare you’ like ???? spare them from what? if you barely knew that person in the first place how can you Possibly claim that you were trying, partly, to protect them too? what the fuq does steve know abt tony stark + his relationship with his parents anyway? was it not in the file he read that SHIELD first gave him in the avengers (2012) that his parents died in a car crash when he was 21;;;;;; is he not aware that tony is literally building and rolling out a multi million dollar technology based on dealing w/ the ptsd + trauma associated w/ that event?????????
tldr this is just me trying to @ myself to be less hypocritical bc the truth + telling the truth when it comes at the cost of huge sacrifice has been a problem for a lot of stevetony iterations and many of those times tony has been the guilty party. but i just fuckin wish mcu had given us a dynamic worth giving a shit abt instead of forcing this ‘i thought i was sparing you even tho we’re barely even friends outside of work’ bullshit at the expense of making their mcu steve rogers come off as completely insensitive, heartless and oblivious to someone he’s supposed to consider a friend + teammate
It’s Shiro’s birthday so I wanted to write something short and nice for him as my writing warm-up today and this happened instead. Well, it’s definitely birthday-themed at least.
Have I ever told you about my headcanon that Galra naturally have longer lifespans than humans? Happy Birthday, Shiro.
Keith sits on the edge of the bed, eyes cast downwards, mouth drawn up into a straight, tight line. His hands are resting at the drop-off of the sheets on either side of him, fingers curled in towards the mattress, gripped loosely at its corner. His shoulders curve forwards.
Shiro waits a moment or two, wondering if he’ll come out and say what’s bothering him or let it stew silently. Sometimes it’s one, sometimes it’s the other, depending on the matter, and he doesn’t want to push him if Keith’s going to offer it up himself. But after Shiro has finished changing into his sleep pants and Keith still hasn’t looked up at him, he wants to check in.
“Everything okay?” Shiro asks, coming to stand in front of Keith.
Keith’s eyes flicker up to Shiro, then to the Earth calendar drawn up on the wall, then to the clock that reads 11:58, before he says, “Yeah, it’s fine.”
Sometimes I think about how much Rhett and Link have changed and grown in their relationship over the past few years, like this is IRL character development and it’s like reading the best kind of slow-burn except it’s all actually happening.
I mean, they went from literally recoiling from each others’ touch and refusing to even give each other compliments, to putting on costumes like this
and giving interviews where they say stuff like this
and coming up with show ideas that literally force them into each others’ personal space in increasingly intimate ways
not to mention taking every
for physical contact
that the wheel endings will allow
(need I remind you that not a single one of the wheel endings above required physical contact in ANY WAY? They took it there all on their own.)
It’s so beautiful, even with all shipping and tinhatting aside, that their friendship has reached a point where they no longer have to cry NO HOMO every time they accidentally brush their arms together, because they’re comfortable with their relationship and how they feel about each other. Male friendships are normal, and can be affectionate and loving and even physically demonstrative. It’s been wonderful watching them embrace that.
I have so many emotions about this. I am a broken shell of a person because of these two ridiculous manchildren. If they stay the course, I will surely perish before the year is out.
