yes i'm going to read it anyway

anonymous asked:

Hey, can you help me with something? If yes (that would mean a lot ♡) so, I'm not a witch and I really want to be one ive been reading all blogs that I could find about it but I have no idea of how can I start! You know? I mean, what should I buy? +

+ What book should i read? Everything’s kinda confuse right now… do you have any advices? Or ideas of how can I start? Thank you so much anyway ♡ (it was a bit long, hope you can read it, sorry xx)

It wasn’t too long, and I can read it just fine. :)

But, this is going to be a long ass post. So, yeah, be warned.

First of all, you don’t really need to buy anything if you don’t want to. (Check this post: [“Do I Need a ________ to Be a Witch?”]. The answer: no.) There are some branches of magic that don’t really require any physical components - energy work or sigil magic being the ones that jump to mind first. There are also many average household items that have their own energies that can be used in magic. Sometimes people already have some witchy supplies in their homes that can be used - many people have spice racks and candles and jars from other food, and those are pretty common tools in the craft.

It also highly depends on the sort of magic you want to do. Do you want to work with candles, crystals, herbs, all of the above? Then you’ll want to look into places to find those. (I get my herbs from the grocery store and candles from the dollar store, honestly.) Do you plan on grinding herbs into powders? Then you’ll probably need a mortar and pestle, or something similar. Plan on making poppets or sachets? You’ll need fabric, thread, and sewing needles, though poppets can be made out of paper instead, and you can buy little baggies that can work for sachets. Want to make magical jars? Hit up the dollar store for bottles and containers. Do you want a wand? Do you want a ritual space / altar? Tarot decks / other methods of divination? It seriously comes down to what you want, and what you might plan on doing.

Here is a list of some things that might be useful in your magic, more as a jumping off point of ideas, and in no way absolute or complete:

  • candles
  • crystals
  • herbs
  • jars
  • sachets / tiny pouches
  • sewing needles, thread and fabric
  • thicker string / ribbon
  • paper and writing utensils

You can use almost anything in your magic, though, and many things you can just find outside, like:

  • leaves
  • nuts
  • rocks
  • water from streams or rain
  • feathers (some places have laws about picking up feathers, be sure to check out where you live and if that will be an issue)

Everything has magical potential. You can even enchant regular objects like jewelry to bring about magical effects. This is also good if you have to be super discreet. The options are literally endless.

Here are a couple of posts, [The Beginner Witch’s Starter Spell Kit] and [New Witch’s Shopping Guide], that I think you should check out as well. Some other useful posts:

If you are on a budget…

If you need to be discreet…

* not my choice of title

And just because something might be useful, doesn’t mean you have to use it. For example, I find blood to be very useful in magic - it is super potent with energies - but some people aren’t comfortable using it. And that’s fine. If you don’t want to utilize something, you don’t have to.

Notebooks are almost vital as a witch, in my opinion. You’ll want a place to store all the information you’ve learned to access later. It’ll be a place to keep all your spells and correspondences, and notes on any magical workings you do as well.

However, you can go completely digital and forego a physical book - using programs like OneNote, Google Drive and the like can be another way for you to store your info discreetly, password protected, and have access to it anywhere you have internet and your mobile device.

As to finding out what you want to do with magic, where you should start, I generally give people this list of questions that will hopefully help them narrow their focus and figure out where it is they want to go:

  • Why were you drawn to the craft in the first place? What got you interested in studying / practicing it?
  • What sorts of expectations do you have, if any, about what you can do with magic?
  • Is magic something you just want to experiment with, or do you want to practice long-term?
  • Are there any things in particular you hope to achieve by doing magic? Do you have any end goals for yourself or your craft? Any expectations?
  • What sorts of things would you like to do (in regards to different varieties of spellwork [candle magic, sachet magic, etc.], divination, etc.)?
  • Do you feel an attraction / affinity to any particular branch of magic (chaos magic, green magic, spirit work, hedgework, etc.)? Why? What in particular makes it appealing to you?
  • Are there things you don’t want to go near no matter what? Why? What bothers you about those things?

Ultimately that’s what matters - what you want, where you want to go. Here is my advice on that front: pick something to start with, and go with it - learn what you can from it, play with it, and when you think you’ve got it covered, try something else, while still keeping in mind what you’ve already learned.

Witchcraft is such a personal practice and area of study - it allows you to experiment and find out what works for you, while also not enforcing anything that you may not be comfortable with. Don’t wanna do this thing? You don’t have to. Maybe you would prefer to focus on this thing? Go right ahead. Oh, wait, you changed your mind, and now you wanna do this? Yep, go for it. It is a beautiful thing.

Here is a list I ended up throwing together of some common branches of magic. You are not bound or excluded to only one - you can practice many of these at any one time, and you are not stuck with it of you happen to pick it up but decide you don’t like it. This list is also not exclusive, but a way to give you an idea of some of the things you can do.

  • energy work
  • candle magic
  • crystal magic
    • crystal grids
  • sachet magic
  • knot magic
  • poppet magic
  • kitchen magic
    • tea magic
  • bath magic
  • traditional magic
  • urban magic
  • chaos magic
    • sigil magic
  • pop culture magic
  • green magic
  • cottage magic
  • hedgework
  • spirit work
  • shadow work
  • blood magic
  • sex magic
  • death magic
    • necromancy

There are so man different veins of magic, and they can blend and mix in such cool ways. Most spells have components of different varieties of magic - you might see a spell call for candles and crystals, or jars and poppets.

It takes some time to build up witchy supplies, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t have 20 different herbs in the span of a week. It’s taken me two years to build u the supplies I have, just picking up bits and pieces here and there. A good idea to start would be pick one spell then buy the ingredients for that, and do that spell. Then, decide on a spell you want to do next - you’ll find you might already have some of the ingredients left over from the first one, then you just need to pick up what you’re missing. It is also good to keep lists of substitutions for various herbs if you decide to use them. Not everything has a substitution, but if you can find things with similar correspondences as to what is being used in that spell and why, you should be okay.

Learning to write your own spells is also a great way to ensure you’ll have the ingredients you need (by basing it off what you have), but that can be a bit daunting, and is in no way necessary, just a handy skill to have.

I am not so sure on the books you should buy - I tend to get my witchcraft resources from online, and this whole blog is my resource compilation. I use Tumblr as my main source of info, along with my discretion of course. I know other witches have lists of book recommendations, and I can give you those:

[Here] is a list of authors you should try to avoid - trigger warning for mention of various disturbing topics. [Here] is a post that talks about why your book on witchcraft might be full of it; if you have any questions as to why that might be, feel free to ask the OP or even myself. [Here] is a post that explains using discretion and critical reading in regards to witchcraft books.

I have a page on my blog, [Advice for Witchlings], that has more advice that can help you out. I also made it into two rebloggable posts if that is easier for you to access: [part 01] and [part 02].

I am also going to toss a huge list of posts here. You don’t need to read them all immediately, but they do all contain various points of interest and things to note, as well as useful information (and sometimes even more links). Witchcraft is a practice of study and learning, after all.

Oh dear gods, okay, I am done with this. Not only because it’s way too long, but because my fingers hurt. xD I really hope that can help you anon, and best of luck! If you have any more specific questions, I’ll do my best to answer, it’s just really hard to get everything in such a broad question. There’s so much (as you can see). But, I hope that answers some of your questions, or gives you an idea on where to look to find them! Again, if you have other questions, I’ll do my best to get into more specifics, just maybe do one at a time so I can break it down a lot easier, and hopefully in not so long a post, lmao. I wish you all the best on your newfound path! :D

I just want to live in a little cottage by the sea in ireland, with hyazinths and sunflowers on every shelf am i really asking too much

Do u ever think about the goblins in carry on and how the goblin that succeeded in killing simon would become king?

What if like 70 years later, baz was taking a stroll outside while simon was resting in bed cus he was getting v old (baz too cus I don’t support the immortal baz theory, but like he’s more fit bc of his vampirism). And on his walk he sees this cute lil goblin in a park playing with flowers, even tho it seemed too old for that. And baz is like “what are u doing here? Aren’t u supposed to be planning the downfall of the chosen one?”

But then the goblin answers “no, I don’t want to kill anyone, I just want peace and flowers”

So baz has this wonderful idea and he takes the goblin home with him (after the goblin agreed ofc) and the goblin is free to live with them for a while.

Then when simon is really getting weak, the goblin starts to read books to him, which baz thinks is adorable and simon thinks is the best thing ever (they see the goblin kinda as their child now)(I’m just ignoring baz and simons future kids okay shh).

And then simon finally closes his eyes for the last time, when the goblin was still reading, and baz and the goblin are both sad but they know simon had a great life and blabla

BUT THEN (all the build-up for this lmao) a few days later there are lots of goblins at their door and baz is confused. One of the goblins says like “we’ve heard the chosen one has been killed by one of ours” (get it? Cus they think the smol goblin killed him bc he was reading to simon in the last minute of his life)

So then flower goblin gets to be king and now he rules peacefully over goblin land and honestly I have no idea where I wanted to go with this… That’s what happens when Im sick lmao

But yes!! Flower goblin king!

LOVED your fic recs! You mentioned that you had runner-ups, what are they? I'm curious because we have similar fic tastes and I've read most on your list.

Thanks mate! I’m glad you appreciated that and yes, I was originally going to post 15 fics, but I cut it down to 10 because I’m a lazy bastard. The following are honorable mentions to my treasure trove (or part two, view it anyway you want.)

  • Make a Wish by AcrobatElle
    • Rated: E
    • Noted Features: Wish Realm!AU, Canon Divergence (Season 6), Wish Realm Fix It, Older!Killian, Porn with Feelings
    • Author’s Description: Stuck in the Enchanted Forest after her wish was granted, Emma seeks out Killian. She doesn’t expect what she finds.
    • Rose’s Review: If I were a bigger cunt than I already am, I would just download this fic and sent it to A&E and be like “See this? This is what you should have done you bloody fucking wankers instead of going for the laugh!” (I’m not bitter I promise.) This isn’t just amazingly crafted Captain Swan smut, it’s amazingly crafted Captain Swan smut that rips out your heart and makes you weep for Wish!Hook because he’s just so unhappy but so gracious and in love with Emma (all Killians are in love with all Emma’s, let’s just face it). He really could have been bitter but he’s just so accepting and encouraging of Emma and his main verse self that it makes you want to curl in a corner with a bottle of rosé and weep to “White Flag” by Dido. It doesn’t make you cry because it’s angsty, it makes you cry because they just fucking love each other so much and Wish!Hook kinda gets the raw deal because he has no Emma of his own. He arguably doesn’t really exist but you still feel bad because despite the fact he was unhappy that doesn’t mean he didn’t have a good heart. Ugh. Just read it and have feels.

Can you believe I listen to Young Forever everyday and cry buckets of tears? Lay the song dissection on me ~F

oh my god fhasdlgadg there is s omuch happening in this song, i’ll try my best to address them best i can. you could spend three days listening to it on repeat and still find hidden parts in the instrumentation or the vocals or the soundbites i just ugh. while reading this, please keep in mind that i’m not a professional musician nor am i an intense music student nor am i even particularly good at playing my any instrument(s), so if you belong to one of the categories above: please don’t hate me lmao

1. electronic vocals (?)

in the original ver of young forever, the addition of electronic sounds manages to enhance the piece w/o overloading the listener. a lot of top 40′s lay on too much of these toggling effects after recording & i get bored of it real fast; it’s banal af and most songs ends up sounding the same. however, whoever produced this / was in charge of sound editing did a great job avoiding a lot of overdone trends !

the song opens with a really quiet, rather high vocal scat (for lack of better words) that is repeated throughout the rest of the piece w/o trying to catch attention. the whole point of this motif is to bring variety to the basic synth piano that starts off namjoon’s verse, but it keeps getting looped back over the chorus and is half-drowned out by the melody later on. it’s an interesting decision to bring it back again, esp when the casual listener won’t catch it.

when most of the instrumentation cuts out around the 2min mark with jungkook’s line, it becomes more prominent again, returning the theme of “quietude” back to the audience. the ending is pretty bare to the bones musically, but this high line is reminiscent of the beginning of the song, and brings everything back full circle. it’s drowned out most of the time, but i’m still in love with this tiny lil touch idk

2. usage of silence

right when namjoon’s voice comes in, the editor made the deliberate choice to leave in his intake of breath. this serves the purpose of making the bass line feel more impactful (aka that note drop u hear; i’m still trying to place what instrument that is) it’s the juxtaposition of the opening, the intimacy of the inhale, and how namjoon gets past the first couple words w only synth support all serve to intensify that first real heavy note

not to forget, hoseok’s verse builds up the tension so high before wiping out completely. it’s the two (? maybe three) lines of percussion and the synth (sounds like unwinding VCR tape) that crescendo with his voice. the whole thing seems to “break” as it reaches the climax, serving to make his scream at the end even more intense. the whole rap part has been leading up to it, and i get chills every goddamn time mmfalsdkhg

this is the same with jungkook’s part. the vocals have a more noticeable percussion line, and the snare (?) drum speeds up + crescendos into the silence. only when EVERYTHING drops out with him, do the busywork of all these melodies and countermelodies smooth out into clapping, the high opening line, and very obvious piano. there are also tons of layered vocals weaving in and out.

there is so much power in the silence as well. the silence right after hoseok’s verse where he yells into the deep, his lines climbing higher n higher every time, silence at 2:03 when jungkook sings, and silence at the beginning of the song. all of it is important to bring about a suspended, anticipated feeling to the listener ?????????and it makes things the song less cookie-cutter + more interesting

3. that One Bass Note

when counting in 4/4 (idk if it’s cut time or not lmao; both seem to work fine w the rhythm), that low bass comes in on the down beat of every two measures, so the suspension is more engaging than to have one every bar. it’s a really small thing, but it helps with the languid, drawled-out sorta feel that this song aims for.

both yoongi AND namjoon have very minimalistic starts to their lines. their rap begins on the pickup and the third word or so is really emphasized bc of the drop (idk what’s producing the noise tho / what exactly to call it). hoseok still gets that bass note, but he starts right on the down beat, which immediately changes the mood of the piece, but draws relatively little attention to it ????

4. musical buildup

the song gets built up verse by verse. namjoon starts with that high line, sparse piano chords, a sort of high-beeping noise that sounds like synth woodblock or something lmao. that sound goes off on the 3rd beat of every measure, while that bass note is the down beat of every second bar.

yoongi gets a fuller sound with low vocals, synth piano in a high ass tessitura (likely to compliment the opening motif), a really nice percussion line, and some nice low bass-y chords to bring in more depth. this is when the song starts sounding healthier, heartier, more gut-wrenching.

hoseok gets double percussion with the start of his lines. there’s a brassy, brush-like sound going on every beat, and a rat-a-tat-tat sorta thing that starts outta it at 1:06, and then takes up a life of it’s own. it has nice syncopation & it gets held off to every 3rd beat, right until taehyung starts singing. then it becomes a consistent line in the background of the song and it makes me nut so hard every time

this signifies a change in the overall dynamics and sound (???i guess) bc it calls in a more harried tone when vocal line goes In For The Kill. from then on, things stay pretty consistent (the electronic woodblock and that one bass note too!), except there are a bunch of easier heard percussion weaving in and out which is expected

5. layered vocals

throughout the song, there are tons of echoey lines, the ones that branch off from the main lyrics right away, others that circle back and show up while hidden way in the background. all it of constitutes to a hallowed sort of feel, like you’re standing on the beach or off a cliff or in a canyon with nothing around you for miles and miles and miles and it just???it takes that feeling of being Alone / at the end of ur time and really drives it home. this effect really goes with the theme of the song, especially when the lyrics turn out to be a death knell of sorts ;((

ex: there’s one really muffled, hidden line mirroring the melody at 2:21, and the first time i tapped into it i Freaked??? who tf is singing????? why is this so genius??? it grounds the half-belting real nice-like. not to forget the way bts harmonizes with themselves but also leave spaces for single words to shine thru (until filling out all the gaps by the end) goes so well with the theme of playing with silence in this song. it’s Genius, i’m telling you. Genius.

6. the singing itself

the vocal line has a natural progression from the lower melody to higher notes. jimin and jungkook both have high ass riffs in falsetto, but every one drops a third, i think. i don’t have enough theory under my belt to break the melody down further (like why the notes sound good or the sound is very unique etc), but the choral parts are my fave bit. i love the minimalistic instrumentals (clapping on the off beats god ,,, always gets to me) while vocal line sings their hearts out on top of it (ಥ﹏ಥ) and then all of bts joins in. the full multi-layered voice effect is so nostalgic n sentimental and that’s exactly what they were going for with this???

wow truly incredible i love bts

in conclusion:

this song utilizes typical effects often heard in pop music, but they’re used in very unique ways that help the listener stay engaged. the sound mixing is impeccable, the melody is neither repetitive nor boring, and hidden instruments as the moving line are done tastefully.

also: silence? yes. silence.

ATTENTION! Now in this post I’ll see one spoiler of the new chapter (873) of One Piece. Don’t read it if you don’t want spoiler ^-^.

This T’Chucky fic:

it takes an ocean not to break by napricot

“Yet you haven’t sought any vengeance against HYDRA.”

Bucky laughed, incredulous and sad. “No. No, I—” he paused, worrying at his lower lip with his teeth. “If I ran into anyone trying to take me in again, I—I handled it. And I hit a few old HYDRA bases, took ‘em out so they couldn’t use them. But—no. Revenge?” He shook his head. “It’s too big. If I’d let it, it would have taken up all the room inside of me, and there wouldn’t be anything left of me. I had to let it go.”

T'Challa and Bucky get to know each other, and T'Challa learns how to let it go.

and this fantastic T’Challa & Steve gen fic which I just read and I can’t believe @brendaonao3 kept from me because I had no idea she’d written this and it’s so fucking good i’m?? shook???????

The Small Hours by Brenda

“I’m not getting him back, am I.” The words were flatly delivered – not a question so much as fatigued resignation.

“We will do everything we can to help him,” T'Challa quietly replied, but he wouldn’t lie, not about this. Not to a fellow warrior he respected on and off the field of battle. “The possibility does exist, however, that the triggers are permanent.”

go enjoy! <3

saader  asked:

hey!! alanakatz sent me your way: i'm in desperate need of a good place to start re: Iron Man in the comics. I want to love him and I need a guide to the best volumes, and I heard you're like, /the/ Tony connoisseur :) anyways, don't feel obligated and absolutely take your time if you have any ideas for me. thank you!

oh yes hello there! please don’t be put off by my latest post btw tony is my favorite disaster man. and oh man this is going to get long I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE??

I really recommend reading iron man vol 1. not only is tony a drama queen who faints all the time because he can’t keep his heart charged, but it’s where a lot of the tropes associated with iron man stories come from (SENTIENT TECHNOLOGY, tony gets his tech stolen, his personal problems creating rifts between him and his loved ones, etc etc). it has mega cheese dialogue and there’s a lot of flaws and oh my god did I mention how cheesy it is bUT there’s some great stories, and in a lot of ways it’s better than most modern iron man.

volume 1 (torrent here, partially available on comixology here) has a lot of great arcs (and some….less great), but these are some of my faves/most important:

  • the beginning of the end (17-23)
  • demon in a bottle (120-128)*
  • doomquest (149-150)
  • iron monger (160-200)
  • armor wars (225-232)

*not necessarily my favorite im story but it is often cited as the definitive tony alcoholism story. kind of essential reading I guess?

ok so iron man volume 2 is um. well. it’s uhhhh. some things happen? haha ok for real iron man vol 2 is REALLY FUCKING TERRIBLE in the best ways, and I recommend beginner readers stay away from it. but definitely come back to it after you’re more seasoned because oh my god teen tony. TEEN TONY.

moving on.

volume 3!!!!! oh my god iron man volume 3 has terrible art and retains Mega Cheese internal narration and, again, it has many problematic elements, but it is so good. sentient armor!! tiberius stone!!! RUMIKO FUJIKAWA!!!!!!!!! torrent part 1, part 2. and again, it’s only partially collected on comixology here.

that brings us up to modern iron man!

the numbering gets a little wonky here, btw. iron man vol 4 and matt fraction’s invincible iron man are different collections, although the latter is also referred to as invincible iron man vol 4. it’s weird.

(and I can’t find one single collected torrent for all of these, but I’m sure if you’re internet savvy you can find one)

iron man vol 4:

*if you haven’t read civil war, a lot of what happens after this might not make a whole lot of sense, because no matter the rep cw has now, it was pretty impactful on iron man comics at the time. honestly, you don’t really need to read civil war, just be familiar with the plot and consequences.

ok so. the invincible iron man. I….have issues with fraction’s run, to say the least. it starts out pretty good? but after the first initial arcs, the quality of the story and writing degrades fast. I recommend just reading issues 1-24 (comixology, torrent). the rest is pretty bland and unenjoyable.

and DEFINITELY do not read kieron gillen’s current iron man solo. it is awful on every level please do not read this. for marvel now titles with actual decent tony in them, I recommend:

ok and here is a list of the rest of my favorite iron man stories/events with good tony moments!!!

*oddly enough, the invincible iron man fear itself tie-in issues (#503-509) are terrible, despite the fact that both are written by fraction. go figure. anyways, the main fear itself series has one of my favorite tony sequences ever, and the whole event is kind of weird but has really enjoyable cracky moments.

**not in the main 616 continuity, it’s more like an mcu au story? it’s disturbing and pretty dark and wonderful

***ultimates is not something I’d normally rec, but if you take this mini as just an au that is like 616 and mcu canon combined, it’s a good iron man comic

oh god this is so long. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. jaz led you astray don’t ask me about iron man comics I’m sorry

  • Steve: Wanda, it's not your fault.
  • Wanda: Steve, it is absolutely my fault.
  • Steve: I know, I'm just trying to make you feel better.
  • Vision: (phases into room) I'm here to steal the movie. And also Wanda's heart.
  • Wanda: Vision, I love you, but please stop doing this.
  • Steve: Wait, has he done this before?
  • Vision: The last time this happened, I walked in on Wanda-
  • Wanda: STOP RIGHT THERE!
  • ------------------------------
  • General Ross: Hello, Avengers. I'm here to fuck everything up.
  • Wanda: Who the fuck are you?
  • General Ross: I was in the Hulk movie where Bruce looked like the guy from Fight Club.
  • Nat: Yeah, that was weird.
  • -----------------------------
  • Tony: I'm here to support the American government gain further control over superhero activity as I believe it is necessary.
  • Steve: That's odd, I'm here to fight against government control as I no longer trust them.
  • Tony: Yeah, it feels like our points of view should be reversed.
  • Steve: That says a lot about how we've progressed as characters. (receives text) Shit.
  • Tony: Language. What is it?
  • Steve: A side development to break the audience's hearts. We've got a lot of those.
  • ----------------------------
  • Steve: OK, Steve, keep it together. Hopefully Sharon Carter won't be in this, and you won't have to go through a creepy romantic sub plot.
  • Sharon: Hi, I'm here to quote the comic and kiss super soldiers.
  • Steve: Goddammit.
  • ----------------------------
  • Nat: Well, I'm here, something big is going to go down.
  • T'Challa: Hi, I'm the first black superhero on screen.
  • Nat: Wait, what about Falcon? Or War Machine?
  • T'Challa: They're sidekicks, they don't count in the same way.
  • Nat: OK, nice to meet you. Are any of your parents in this movie?
  • T'Challa: Yes, why?
  • Nat: Uh, let's just say you're story arc will involve revenge.
  • ----------------------------
  • Wanda: Why are you cooking?
  • Vision: I believe this is meant to set us up as a romantic couple.
  • Wanda: Well, it's working. Maybe Marvel have learned their lesson from Age of Ultron.
  • Vision: I believe Sharon and Steve also have a romantic sub-plot.
  • Wanda: Spoke too soon.
  • --------------------------
  • Nat: Steve, whatever you do, don't go after Bucky.
  • Steve: Sure thing Nat. (hangs up) Sam, we're going after Bucky.
  • Sam: The dude tried to kill us multiple times.
  • Steve: Yeah, but he's cute AF.
  • Sam: Fine.
  • -------------------------
  • Steve: OK, I'm in Bucky's flat, but he's not here.
  • Bucky: Who's not here?
  • Steve: OH MY GOD! Bucky!
  • Bucky: Still don't remember you.
  • Steve: Damn it.
  • --------------------------
  • T'Challa: Hello, my name is T'Challa. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
  • --------------------------
  • Tony: For god's sake, Steve, why did you save him?
  • Steve: He's my best friend.
  • Tony: He murdered a thousand people.
  • Steve: He was brainwashed.
  • Tony: Cool motive, still murder.
  • ---------------------------
  • Martin: Hello, I'm Martin Freeman. I heard Benedict was in the MCU, and I couldn't let him do that without me.
  • Zemo: And I'm Zemo, I'm here to screw everything up.
  • Steve: Yeah, no one really cares about you guys. Also, if you hurt my boyfriend, I hurt you.
  • Martin/Zemo: What?
  • Steve: What?
  • ---------------------------
  • Zemo: Vague brain washy words.
  • Steve: Bucky no.
  • Tony: Bucky no.
  • Nat: Bucky no.
  • Martin: Bucky no.
  • Everyone: BUCKY NO!
  • Bucky: Bucky no!
  • Zemo: Bucky yes.
  • Bucky: Bucky yes.
  • ---------------------------
  • Bucky: Escape, beat up superheroes, get away in helicopter. This is a good plan.
  • Steve: BUCKY, COME BACK HERE!
  • Bucky: Damn it, why does this blonde guy keep ruining everything? And why is he so hot?
  • -----------------------------
  • Tony: We need to bring Cap and Bucky in.
  • Nat: Who are we going to get to do that?
  • Tony: I know a kid. Even though there is literally no reason why I could even possibly know who he is.
  • Nat: Not the Spider-kid.
  • Tony: Why not?
  • Nat: I thought I was the arachnid themed hero.
  • -----------------------------
  • Tony: Hey, kid, your aunt is hot.
  • Peter: Please stop talking.
  • Tony: Also, I know you're Spider-Man.
  • Peter: How the hell do you know that?
  • Tony: I read the script. Would you like to go to Germany?
  • Peter: I can't, I'm finally a kid, I have homework and stuff that the other spidermen never worried about.
  • Tony: OK, but what if I told you you get to meet superheroes?
  • Peter: Would I get to meet Captain America?
  • Tony: ... yeah.
  • -----------------------------
  • Wanda: Vision, I want to help Captain America.
  • Vision: Wanda no.
  • Hawkeye: Wanda yes.
  • Wanda: Didn't you retire in Age of Ultron?
  • Hawkeye: We're kind of glossing over some things that happened in that film.
  • ----------------------------
  • Steve: Did you find Ant-Man?
  • Hawkeye: Yeah, why are we bringing him anyway?
  • Steve: We heard that Team Iron Man have got a comic relief sidekick with a insect theme, and we need to match them.
  • ----------------------------
  • Tony: So, it has come to this. Heroes vs. heroes. Friend against friend. Brother against brother.
  • Steve: Yeah, yeah, shall we fight?
  • T'Challa: Shall we indeed?
  • Steve: Hang on, Tony, why is he on your team?
  • T'Challa: Oh, don't worry about me, captain. I'm only here to steal the spotlight.
  • Spider-Man: Did somebody mention stealing the spotlight?
  • T'Challa: God damn it.
  • ----------------------------
  • Steve: Guys, the trailer's have given away most of the badass moments from this fight scene. We need something that's extremely memorable and awesome. Preferably something right from the comics.
  • Ant-Man: Hey, I've got an idea. (becomes giant.)
  • Spider-Man: HOLY SHIT!
  • Steve: That should do it.
  • -----------------------------
  • Steve: OK, just before the finale, we need something for the Stucky fans to go nuts over.
  • Bucky: How about you lovingly pat me on the shoulder and we reminisce about old times?
  • Steve: I love you.
  • ----------------------------
  • Tony: Hey guys, I'm here to redeem myself and help catch the bad guy.
  • Zemo: Hello, I'm the bad guy. I'm the one who orchestrated the bombing.
  • Steve: Right on cue.
  • Bucky: Guys, this is too easy.
  • Zemo: Hey, Stark, Bucky killed your parents.
  • Tony: OK, that's it. Bucky dies.
  • Zemo: Everything is going to plan.
  • T'Challa: Hello, my name is T'Challa. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
  • Zemo: OK, fine, kill me.
  • T'Challa: Actually, since this is a superhero film, let's arrest you.
  • Zemo: For fuck's sake.
  • Steve: LANGUAGE.

“A force that can’t be heard
Coming in louder than words”
(x)

A modern Hobbit AU, featuring an impatient boss named Thranduil, a SWAT team that gets toyed with more than they know, a crime lord named Azog who will use every means to get what he wants, some slightly complicated family history on Thorin’s side, and, at the very center of it, two rather emotionally constipated jerks who are just a little bit too blind to see what’s right in front of their eyes.

Read the first part here.

So I saw you'd been reading 91W and loved it (it's just so great I read it like in september and I'm still not over it) and I wondered if you knew of fics that were kinda similar? I just couldn't find anything like it anywhere so far... // (Also your blog is awesome!) Anyway thx ;*

Hi! Thank you so much, I’m glad you like my blog!

Yes, yes, yes 91W was great, and @cuddlebabies is an absolute genius - I’m still not over that story either - but it’s always difficult to recommend books that are ‘kinda similar’ to something someone’s read, because, well, a good librarian would ask, Why did you like 91W? and then go from there, right? Because maybe what we liked about a story was the world building, or maybe it was a specific feeling which was weaved throughout it like music, or maybe we simply fell in love with a character and we want to read more about them. So, well - stories that are similar to other stories - that’s always a difficult question to answer. On the other hand, I’m not sure how helpful it’d be to chat with you about this, because I’m far from being a fanfiction expert - unfortunately, I don’t know (or read) a lot of fanfiction anymore - I just don’t have time to. :(

All I can tell you is: if what you liked was the setting, I really can’t help you. I generally don’t read AUs, and those I could rec you do not take place in the same context at all (they’re still awesome, though).

The only other war AU I’ve ever read is Pick it All Up by @scarlettshazam where Cas is a veteran with a missing leg and a lot of trauma to work through. It’s really lovely, but be careful (it’s a prostitute!Dean story, and there is some talk about sexual abuse).

Qualia by @thevioletcaptain is completely different from 91W (Cas is the AI which manages Sam’s house, Dean is the hapless mechanic who slowly falls in love with it despite himself) but it’s got excellent characterization and a very slow progression towards a completely believable love story. Plus, Charlie’s there, so yay!

@schmerzerling‘s stories are mostly AUs - again, not about WW2 but they’ve got all the angst and slow-burn you could ever wish for. Last year I was sucked in by More or Less - the fact it’s both an AU and a WIP and I normally read neither is proof of just how good it is.

Finally, I’m completely in love with @no-gorms‘s writing (she’s Annie D or scaramouche on AO3) and she’s written this very long AU series, Not Part of the Plan, where Cas and Dean are two noblemen forced into a marriage of convenience in the middle of a war. The setting is modern (with some elements of magic realism), but if what you liked about 91W was the combat part of it - Cas planning operations, Dean being his usual risk-taker self, the solidarity soldiers form on the battlefield and so on - this may be the fic for you. I know the premise seems too Disney to work, which is why I waited for a long time before giving it a chance, but Annie D has this thing - everything she writes is just right and unputdownable, from outrageous porn to the fluffiest oh no, Dean is now an octopus nonsense. I don’t know how she does it - magic or some shit - but if you’re not reading her stories, you’re definitely missing out.

Now - if what you liked about 91W was not (necessarily) the WW2 setting, but rather the slow burn and the angst, oh boy - I’ve definitely got a couple of fics like that in my bookmarks. You could try @museaway‘s The Path of the Fireflies, which is completely sweet and heartwrenching and kept me awake an entire weekend, or @mishcollin‘s a turn of the earth, a 2015 DCBB, which is also canon-compliant but pre-series - I just loved her perspective into a period of Dean’s life we know next to nothing about - those years Sam was in Stanford and Dean was doing his best to pretend he didn’t care at all. So, well - even if you don’t normally read canon fics, you should give these stories a chance, because they’re both plain amazing and perfectly in character.

(And also - *looks down, blushes* - if you follow my blog, I’m sure you know I write, and maybe you’ve read some of my stories, but just in case - I wrote three novel-length fics, and my style tends to be slow burn and angst and feels, so - if you don’t know about them, here they are - The Way Out is my 2016 DCBB fic, and it’s about time-travel and Hell and Cas being his usual martyr self and Dean being unhappy a lot; The Law of Equivalent Exchange is sort of pre-series and goes back to Biblical times and how Cas was tasked to protect Dean and watch over him as his soul was reborn again and again; and Autrement Danger is a case fic featuring shapeshifters, a hot tub, some very bad childhood memories and the concept of soulmates.)

As a last point - if you’re a Sherlock fan, I’m sure you’ll enjoy Two Two One Bravo Baker by abundantlyqueer - the characters are exactly the same, but this time, Sherlock is sent to Afghanistan to solve a case there, and that’s how he meets John, who’s still serving.

I hope you’ll find something you like here - if not, try asking @destielfanfic - they’re the professionals in the fic rec department!

Happy reading!

So out of the blue I just remembered the title of an old, OLD fan-made comic I used to read. It was, for the time, pretty well written, but I remember that the updates were monstrously slow in coming out. This must’ve been, oh, 2008-ish. I gave it up because I was tired of checking back in to see if there’d been an update, and also, y’know, college. Life. Things like that.
But since I actually remembered the title, I thought I’d look it up. You know, just reread it, see if it was as good as I remember, ride that nostalgia train for a while.
I found it.
It’s unfinished.
The author is STILL working on it. They last updated with a “progress report” just a few months ago saying that they’re still going. It’s been in progress for TEN YEARS now, literally since 2007.
There are seven completed chapters.

I laughed so loud I scared a group of dudes walking by outside.

☝🏼 Author Fun Fact ☝🏼

So, I doubt many people will read this and give it any thought or notes, but I’m going to post it anyway because I’m damn proud of it and hopefully, it can inspire others…

Author Fun Fact: I bet none of you would guess this sappy fanfiction writer is also a 5'7", 180lbs powerlifter & runner, who has dropped between 50-55lbs in just under the last last three years, finally got her mile runtime well under ten minutes, and deadlifted 260lbs and bench pressed 115lbs on Wednesday…

Just goes to show, you never know who writes fanfiction!

Feel free to ask me any other questions you may have!

Much love,

#SuperSam
