The Last Word

I was rewatching that episode of Community where Abed and Troy kept hitting each other with pillows because they didn’t want their friendship to be over, and I just kind of liked the idea of an argument stretching out ridiculously long just because 2 people don’t want to stop talking ^^

college AU.

read it here on AO3!

“Dean, this is Cas - Cas, Dean,” Jo said, calling over the thudding music in the bar where they were standing, propping up the bar. She had a hand on Dean’s shoulder, and she gave him a little shake. “I’ve been meaning to introduce you guys since forever. I just know you’re gonna get on great. Cas, Dean likes philosophy, and psychology - that kind of thing!”

“I’m, uh - an armchair philosopher at best,” Dean said, throwing Jo a look that said, as clearly as he could without words, don’t play me up too much. Cas, the guy standing in front of him, was quite clearly out of Dean’s league - tall, lean, with the looks of an Athenian hero and the expression of a Roman statue, chiselled and unsmiling. Dean took a hefty swig of his drink, and smiled charmingly.

Well, he thought, you never know until you’ve tried.

“So, are you a Freud or a Jung kind of guy?” he said. Jo clapped his shoulder and moved off, evidently satisfied with the opener and feeling as though her introductory duties were complete. Dean watched after her for a second as she went, taking her social skills with her.

It wasn’t that Dean was bad in social situations - it was only that when there was just him and an undeniably cute guy, things tended to get a little… flustered. Jo, on the other hand, was perfectly at ease, and good at smoothing over the stupid things his runaway mouth tended to say -

“You can go and talk to her instead,” said Cas, and Dean started and looked back at him guiltily. Cas’ expression was unreadable, watching him watch after Jo. “Please, feel no obligation to enjoy my company.”

Dean blinked. Cas raised his eyebrows.

“I’m, uh, I’m - uh,” Dean said, wrongfooted. “I was just -”

“And I think - Jung,” Cas said, cutting through his fumbling. “Freud’s theories are too rooted in misogyny and phobia to be of any interest beyond the influential and contextual, for me.”

Dean swallowed.

This is going great, said a little voice in his head.

@drinkfantasy thank you so much for being my beta. You are the best.

You are so happy, you can’t believe that today you are finally going to sleep on your own bed. “You know, I really like to see you wearing my clothes.” You smile at Bucky’s words as he hugs you from behind.

“I like to wear them, they smell like you.” You are wearing a pair of leggings and one of his sweaters. It’s so big and comfortable. “You can keep it if you want, it looks really good on you.” You turn around kissing him on the lips. “You are going to regret this, in a couple months you are not going to have any more clothes to wear.” You say playful, taking his hair out of his forehead.

“I don’t mind, I can always steal them back and this way they are gonna smell like you.” He is so sweet, you can’t believe how kind and precious Bucky Barnes can be, especially after everything he has been through.

Okay so you sent this: "But AU where Y/N is a rich daddy's girl and Bucky is the valet, right? She's got a crush the size of Jupiter on him and is always doing things to get him all riled up. One day Bucky has had enough and drags her to garage and sits her on top of the limo "You're the last problem I need, little girl. Stop it" ' for Sinful Sunday once and I was wondering if you'd write something for it?

Ok, first of all this is a very surrealistic thing. Thank you anon for sending me my own idea to write something for it. LOL.

Smut under the cut, y’all know me. Don’t act surprised. Obviously 18+. Dirty talk, name calling, fucking on the hood of a car and pantie destruction. Oh, and unprotected sex. Use protection, there are too many of us already.

Bucky Barnes was a lot of things, he had been many things in the past too. He had done a  lot of things, good and bad. But there was one thing he wasn’t and he had no plans on being: a rich daddy’s girl plaything. He needed his job and he wasn’t about to loose it over the whims of a girl that didn’t knew what it was like to actually have to work for a living. And as much as he would like to just bend her over and teach her a lesson, he liked having a roof over his head more.

You, on the other hand, had a crush on James. A huge crush on him. He was this tall, dark and handsome kind of guy with the most striking pair of blue eyes you had ever seen and he was not one of the rich dumb boys you were used to deal with. He was a man, and you wanted him so bad.

She’d do things just to rile him up, but her favorite was changing in the back of the car. She would make Bucky drive to a mall, go with her into an expensive boutique, buy some clothes she would wear only once and then change in the back of the car not even bothering to roll up the partition, so he could see her striping, sometimes completely, and then change slowly into her new clothes. It never failed to make him hard.

You had done everything in your power, you had seen the way he looked at you. You had seen the effect you had on him. You had flirted and teased and you had seen him smirk at you when you’d get changed in the back of the car, but he just wouldn’t act on it. What else did you have to do?

The moment Bucky laid eyes on her he knew it was going to be one of the nights when he’d have to grasp at straws to not do something stupid, like fucking her brains out in the back of the car. She was wearing a dress that looked more like lingerie than actual clothes. And the way she smiled at seeing him reclined against the car, told Bucky she was going to test his patience.

James opened the back door for you, but you ignored it “Tonight I want to go front, with you James” He didn’t said anything, just closed the door and opened the front one “Thank you”

That was the moment Bucky decided he had had enough, Instead of rounding the car and gettin in, he opened he door again and pulled her out of the car “I know what you’re doin’”

“Well, I was trying to get to the resaurant. What are you doing?” You smirked up at him, knowing you were just this close of getting what you wanted. Bucky grabbed your arm and dragged you to the front of the car and hauled you on top of it.

“You’re the last problem I need, little girl. Stop it” He was so close you could feel his body heat and his hands on your waist, the cold of the metal seeping through the thin fabric of your dress.

“And if I don’t?” Bucky crashed his lips to yours and, when you tried to put your hands around your neck, he grabbed your wrists and placed your hands on the hood of the car.

“Guess I’ll have to teach you a lesson” He kisses you again and starts to bunch your dress around your hips, you try to move your hands but he pins them to the hood again, smirking at your surprised gasp “Bet you’ve been thinkin’ about this every night like the little cock slut you are, didn’t you princess?” James starts to unbotton his pants and you watch almost in a trance as he pulls his impressive cock out and you moan.

“Yes, James” You wrap a hand around him and he hisses, grabbing your jaw and kissing you again “I’ve been thinking about this every day and I need you to fuck me now”

He chuckles at your words and he rips the bottom of your panties and drags you to the edge of the car, burying himself inside of you in one swift motion, making you both groan into each other’s mouths, he gives you a couple of seconds to get used to him, then he starts moving fast and hard and you’re having trouble catching your breath.

“Oh, my God… Fuck!” You scream/whisper and Bucky puts a hand over your mouth, biting down on your shoulder and making you whimper, while his hips keep snaping against you.

“Do you want your daddy to hear you and come out to find you being fucked on top of his car? See how I turn you into my little fuck toy?” You shake your head and look at him. He starts kissing your neck and you move your hand between your bodies, touching your clit and bringing yourself closer and closer to your orgasm with every flick.

Your sounds are muffled by his hand but you shudder in Bucky’s arms when you finally come, triggering his own release and listening to his low growls of your name, his thrusts becoming sloppy and disjointed, his come filling you.

You stay like that for a few moments, before Bucky jumps into action and pulls out of you, tucking his lenght back into his pants and getting a pocket square out of his jacket, cleaning you up with careful and tender movements.

“Well, I guess this is how I loose my job” A boyish smile on his lips and a mischievious glint in his eyes.

“No, is not” You pull him in for a quick kiss “If you know how to keep a secret, I know how to do it, too” You let him go and hop down of the car, smirking “I still have a dinner to attend, James”

Number one, waterproof mascara and eyeliner always! When the customer cries, you cry. Number two, carry a lint roller on you at all times; it’s best to get the pocket-sized one, because Mr. Twinkles sheds a lot! Number three, iron your scrubs! And it’s probably best to keep an extra pair in your car, because Mrs. Comier’s Jack Russell likes to pee on people.

Even though you knew these rules by heart, and you followed them every single day of your work-life, today was an exception. It was just one of those days that absolutely nothing- no matter how hard you tried- was going right. You were covered in fluffy cat hairs, Mrs. Comier’s Jack Russell peed on your leg twice, and you had run out of waterproof mascara; so when Mr. Langley brought in his thirteen year old Labrador to put her down, he cried, and so you cried, and in the end you looked like the raccoon that liked to sneak into the office dumpsters at closing.

Today just wasn’t your day.

3. Holy water

Your steps and Steve’s are the only sound breaking the solemn silence of the royal hall. He has tried to stablish a cordial conversation with you but you are just focused on his previous words.

“We have to prepare you for your wedding”

Well, damn, you had totally forgotten about your part of the deal. You are about to get married, and with a stranger.

- Are you okay? - Steve asks you softly

- Yes… - he doesn’t believe it, you neither

Before he can keep persuading you a tall young woman crosses paths with you and Steve, her eyes blown open when she looks at you

- Sila, what a happy coincidence - Steve greets her

- Sir - with a serene smile she bows at him

- We were searching for you

- Hi - you salute the, now you can sense, omega

- Hello - she then looks at you, and you feel like she knows you from somewhere else, and she doesn’t like you

- Well, Sila, this is Y/N, Y/N, Sila - Steve introduces you - She will be the one who will help you with the wedding arrangemetns and to understand the traditions

- Oh thank you - you breathe relieved knowing that you will be acompanied by a woman in those times of  unrest, and even better if she is an omega

- Sure, Sir - she nods at Steve - Please follow me

Without even looking at you she starts walking undoing the path she just made, you wave at Steve and follow the graceful woman. The air between you doesn’t incite a conversation so you dedicate the time to observe the majestic rooms by which the woman leads you. When you cross one specially decorated with large windows you can’t help but staring at the sunny day outside and at the beautiful clear lake that peeks among the trees near the palace, you make a mental note to visit that beautiful place sometime.

Sirius x Reader: Potter Plans

Warnings: no ?

Requested: Yes

A/N: I’M BAAAACK!! It’s the 2 month anniversary of this account and we’re a squad of 523… a number I never thought I’d reach let alone reach in 2 months so thank you my lovelies xx I thought I’d greet this 2 month hiatus return with a hella long imagine x so enjoy reading and send me imagine requests (i’m only answering ships every thurs) xx

“Sirius wins.” You announced, standing up from your leaning position on the wall.

“No way!” James protested, panting.

“I have an unfair advantage. You see these cheekbones? Aerodynamically suited for speed.” Sirius said, somehow he said it seriously. ‘Well those cheekbones are sharp’, you found yourself thinking.

You rolled your eyes and started walking around the sofa, spotting Lily as you did so. “Hey Lils.” You smiled.

“Hey, oh sit, I want to ask you something.”

You winked at James who was practically drooling over Lily and sat down. Eventually, you’d satisfactorily answered her question and you were free to go.

“How do you do it?” James asked immediately as you sat down.

“Well, you see, I bend my knees and let gravity pull me to my seat. It’s-”

“Shut up, you know what I mean.”

Remus had started sniggering at his friend’s stupidity. James shot Remus a threatening glare, stopping him immediately and went back to his book.

You giggled slightly and continued chatting, “Just talk to her like she’s a normal person.”

“I’ve been trying!” He groaned. In all the years you had known James, you’d never seen him act like this about a girl- ‘if only Sirius felt like this about me’ you thought.

Sirius came back from his shower shortly after, shooing Remus further over the sofa so he could sit in his favourite spot that, coincidentally, was next to you.

At around 11, you finally felt your eyes grow heavy and flutter shut, falling asleep next to Sirius.

Sirius admired you as you slept, unaware of his surroundings, he loved everything about you and you just seemed more beautiful lit by the fire: your eyelashes cast soft shadows over your cheekbones, your lips were slightly parted and your brows slightly furrowed.

And James watched as his best friend admired another, both so painfully obviously in love yet so blind to it.

You stirred slightly, breaking both boys reverie, Sirius shot up and announced he was going to bed. You waved him good night sleepily and was about to go to bed yourself when James pounced a question on you.

“Does Lily like me?”

“You know she does you twat. She just doesn’t want to give in, she has no reason to, you’re always available to her.”

James looked as though he was going to defend himself but thought better of it.

A familiar look spread across his tanned face and you straightened up, “Potter, I know that look, stop, no.”

“You like Sirius.” you spluttered from shock but James merely continued, “I like Lily. They like us back. We need to make them jealous.”

“Fuck off.” You whinged, not in the mood for a ‘Potter Plan’ as you and Eudaimonia called them.

“Nah, hear me out. We pretend to date, they get jealous and boom, love is in the air.” James looked at you triumphantly, the look not faltering when you glared back.

“Ew, gross, no. You’re like my brother.”

“Calm down, it’s not like I’d ever date you.”

“Doing great, dear.”

“You know what I mean.”

You paused, pondering the idea, and took a deep breath, “Until Friday.”

“Won’t take longer than 2 days.”

omg can you please write a sequel/ part 2 to that supercorp fic you just posted where Lena finds out Kara is supergirl?!? It was so great but now I'm stressing that Lena doesn't react well. Only if you've got time of course :) also I love how you write supercorp in general, it's amazing and feels so on point

i have a fever & im hacking up a lung: this is, in my humble opinion, the time when my writing ability rly soars. rly comes into its strengths. rly just,,, fucjin rocks. enjoy, ur welcome :))
/

kara has been waiting, and hoping - and stress eating her way through the kids menu - and more hoping, beyond the normal bounds of hope, that lena will turn up for the dinner date they’d set up before… before all that “i’m an alien blah blah specifically supergirl blah blah blah” stuff.

kara shoves her hand into her bowl of fries, pats around to find one as she checks the long row of windows and the two doors for any sign of lena. her face falls when all she encounters is the cool ceramic feeling of betrayal. and no lena.

she flags down a waiter.

“can i get another of the fries, please?”

he looks at her like he knows she’s already eaten her way through six of them. or maybe like he knows she’s been stood up. it makes her feel worse - slump back in her chair and try to keep from feeling like her heart is being crushed kind of worse - and he nods hurriedly and scurries away into the kitchen.

she pulls out her phone, taps on the second contact, aaalex.

>if after three hours someone hasn’t shown up to a dinner….

>u got stood up
>or they’re dead

kara rolls her eyes. then has a minor panic because, well, lena is kind of a magnet for attempted murder. she strains her ears to listen for lena but it’s futile this close to the ground, this close to so many people.

>kara
>lenas fine
>dont break the restaurant or ur phone

kara blinks down at her phone.

>have you been playing with the telepath drugs

>no lol i learned my lesson. i just figured she’s the only one u have been going on dates with so…

kara glares down at her phone, taps the CALL button with furious precision.

“we aren’t dating, alex. they’re friend dates. dates between friends.”

“mhm.”

“and also i have been on plenty of dates lately!”

“sure,” alex allows, but kara suspects she’s only half listening.

“they’re not dates,” she mutters. “but she did stand me up.”

“yeah i know. you put your “date between friends” in my calendar so i was kind of surprised when she marched herself into my office tonight. she signed everything.“ alex waits for a moment. kara says nothing, just stubbornly munches through the fries the waiter puts in front of her. she’s relieved to hear lena is actually okay, and that she signed, but it’s all overshadowed by the fact that lena isn’t here, with her, eating something kara can’t pronounce and gushing about the science she’s been working on and the way she smiles when kara orders seconds and tries to pay and alex is talking again. "not sure what kind of damage control thats worth, if any. i mean, she’s a luthor. but i told j'onn not to even think about wiping her. or, i thought it really loudly.”

kara sighs.

“as is my right as a big sister, i get to tell you you’re an idiot,” alex says, far more mildly than kara expected. or deserved, really. “so what the hell happened? i thought we’d at least talk about it before you told her.”

“it wasn’t something i could deny. maybe i could’ve,” kara mutters, “if it weren’t for my too expressive face.”

“the too expressive face,” alex agrees unhappily. “you got us in a lot of trouble with that.”

kara rolls her eyes. “sorry twelve years late?” she offers and alex hums her thanks. “plus m'gann said hi. like she knew me, you know? she didn’t know someone was with me, it’s not her fault, but yeah. lena knew. i could see it. and then we were at her place and i realised she just knew i was an al- a foreigner,” she corrects, looking around the mostly empty restaurant, “and not supergirl,”

“hold up. she let you into her place knowing you’re an alien?”

“yeah.”

“huh, okay.”

“what?”

“no, nothing. let me guess, you told her.”

“dramatic reveal and all.”

“and this was…”

“last night.” kara checks her watch, lifts her hand to get the bill. she grimaces when she sees how expensive it is to eat her way through her feelings. but hey, if she’s going all out, what’s a little more? “can i get two of your pizzas takeaway and also four brownies? please.”

the waiter looks ill at the request but kara is too upset to care that she’s eaten way too much tonight. by human standards. she could still eat.

“alex, you still there?”

“yup.”

“are you free tonight?”

“nope.” she pops the ‘p’ with some relish. “day off tomorrow, maggie and i are taking our bikes down the coast, remember?”

“right, right.” kara hands over her card to the waiter, signs the bill he brings over. “what do i do?”

“about lena?”

“no, about the state of affairs in, ugh i can’t be bothered,” she mutters. “yes, about lena.”

“um. well, she hasn’t tried to kill you yet so…talk to her?” kara hears her step out into an echoing room - the parking lot, she guesses, and alex’s car beeps. “hold on, i’ll switch you to my hands free,”

“no, no, it’s okay. drive safe and have fun tomorrow.”

“we will. and i love you.”

“love you too.”

//

“hi, jess.”

“kara!” jess smiles over at her. “late night for everyone, hmm?”

“yeah, what are you doing here? it’s midnight, you should be home.”

“i’m just finishing up some work, i have the week off from tomorrow,” she explains. “do you want to see miss luthor?”

her phone buzzes on the side and jess glances up at kara after reading the message.

“let me guess, she’s not in.” jess gives her an awkward smile and kara closes her eyes, nods. “of course,” she says quietly. “okay, well,” she swallows around the thick feeling of tears and sets the brownies on the counter. “um. these are for her. or you. have a good night bye have a fun week,” she says very quickly and almost runs back to the elevator.

it dings open in seconds and kara rushes in, leans back against the wall of it. she holds herself together as much as she can, can’t really help sniffling but she can excuse that on a cold. she stares over at the shut box doors of the elevator and knows the second she gets home she’s going flying.

//

she wonders if she still has her aunts suit. she doesn’t feel like reds and blues tonight, wants to fly without the expectation that comes with her suit.

//

the suit, alex tells her, was quarantined.

kara shoves herself into some old jeans and a deep blue sweater and jumps into the sky. when she’s higher than the tallest building, she rolls onto her back and floats, staring up at the sky.

winn is still in the DEO headquarters. she doesn’t fly down, but she hears him typing away and watching some show on his second monitor. he’s been working late a lot lately. she doesn’t know if something is wrong or if it’s more guardian business but she misses him. she’d text him an invite, or ask him about a game night, only she left her phone at home.

james is on the phone to lucy when she flies overhead and they’re over but he still sounds adoring when he speaks to her, and happy.

alex is - doing things no sister needs to hear.

“kara.”

lena’s voice is small and kara jerks, almost rolls into the path of a bat, before she detects the slight slight whine of a voicemail.

“i know it’s late, you’re probably asleep, i just wanted to talk and,”

kara lands with a slight thump on lena’s office balcony and lena turns. the slight stutter of her heart comes not when she sees kara’s face, but her body. or, clothes.

“kara.”

she ends her voicemail, steps over to unlock the door.

“hi. i wasn’t - i was flying, i heard you.”

“oh.” lena’s fingers twitch. she folds her arms. “i signed everything.”

“yeah. alex told me.”

“i apologise for missing dinner.”

kara takes a step back, shakes her head. lena looks nervous the moment she frowns and it rips at kara. she takes another step back.

“you didn’t miss it. you stood me up.” lena doesn’t say anything. “why - what does it change?” she asks. “how am i different?” she tries to keep the frustration from her voice but whatever, she’s upset that her best friend is all wonky over this, fight her about it.

“you’re supergirl.”

“yeah.”

“i’m,”

“if you say a luthor i’m going to scream,” kara tells her, and lena’s teeth click closed around that exact phrase. “i’ve been telling you for months that i don’t care about that.”

“that’s from before i knew,”

“but i knew!” kara cries. “i knew, and i meant it, and i still mean it, and i just want,” she stutters to a stop, lifts a hand to her eyes. she’s not wearing her glasses so she just covers them with a hand and slowly drags it away when she’s contained again. “i’m sorry i didn’t tell you. i didn’t want things to change. i didn’t,” the reason, or a reason, occurs to her and she sags a little. it’s selfish but lena deserves to know. “i didn’t want you to leave me,” she tells her, in a small voice.

lena has been very quiet and still as kara spoke and now she nods. “i am sorry about tonight. sometimes, i do things like that. when someone’s upset me.” she rolls her eyes delicately. “i’ve been told it’s a defence. throw someone off balance so i feel we’re on equal terms again.” her eyes are dark, cool. “i didn’t know. that you were an alien. i keep thinking and thinking, and i keep picking out all these instances and i just,” she shakes her head. “i can’t believe i didn’t know. i don’t like that i didn’t know.”

“i’m sorry.”

lena nods. “i can’t promise everything will be as it was before.”

kara nods as well. things - this, them - have changed and nothing goes back to how it was before a shift like that. as much as something might look the same, it never is.

“but i can tell you that in a month, there is a restaurant opening. i have four tickets, i would like for you to take one.” kara blinks at her. lena doesn’t smile but she does soften, a little. “i can’t tell how this is going to go, which is freaking me out a little and in a week i’m sure i’m gong to do something drastic,” she says with an edge of warning.

“i’ll be ready,” kara promises.

“good. all i can really say is that i will still want you to be around in a months time.” kara feels herself light up at the words. they’re not ‘i’m not leaving you’ or 'i’m not sending you away’ but they’re pretty damn close. “and i don’t know how i feel about this, i don’t know when I’ll figure it out, but i already miss my friend kara.” kara nods her agreement. she can feel a lena sized hole opening up inside her the longer lena speaks, making herself clear that there is going to be a distance, a time for them to figure this out. she’s sure it’ll be a good thing; she’s equally sure it’ll hurt like hell.

“tomorrow is too soon to hang out, right?” kara checks. “it’s just, alex is away and winn is busy and,” she holds up her hands, shakes her head. “no, nevermind, too soon.”

it grows a little awkward - lena thanks her for the brownies, declines when kara offers to fly her home.

but the next morning, kara opens her front door to lena’s driver, a box of cookies and a small pot of yellow flowers and a note with just a short message.

'our lives are filled with tomorrow’s. this one isn’t ours, but perhaps the next one will be. enjoy your day x’

kara tucks it between the photo frame on her bedside table and the lamp and brings the flower pot with her to the couch. she sets up her next season and pulls the pot into her lap, wraps an arm around it. she pats the pot fondly, sends a photo of herself with it to lena, and settles in.

Bucky was sleeping peacefully beside you the next morning, after spending hours the night before trying to get him to fall asleep. His nerves were getting the best of him, and rightfully so. You’d spent most of the night coming up with a court summons for Peggy, so that you could finally find out whom Charlotte’s true father was. You pushed his hair off of his forehead and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. The love you had for him swelled in your chest and, in that moment, you vowed to find the truth for him, to give him inner peace. Even though this was his own personal struggle, it would bring peace to you and your relationship with him as well. Maybe, just maybe, it would also mend his and Steve’s lifelong friendship.

In the hours that passed, you found yourself growing more and more excited for your date with Bucky.  It was strange, you thought, that your situation had changed so quickly. Your relationship had more than its fair share of ups and downs so far. Perhaps this was going to be the turning point.

After Bucky explained the photo, you immediately texted Wanda, filling her in on everything that had happened that afternoon. You didn’t mention the fight that the article caused, though. If she had known, she would have felt extremely guilty. It wasn’t her fault, after all. Even if her text had led to your rash actions, she had only been trying to protect you, to make sure you were safe and happy. She meant well.

Character A is injured. Character B is still listed as their emergency contact.

“So, anyway, I drove about, I don’t know, four hours? Yeah, four I think it was to get the teacup pig- I mean who wouldn’t want a teacup pig, right?”

The girl- Nicole, Lily had said- stared much to excitedly at Sirius from across the restaurant table. Lily must have been joking when she said they would get on. She had to have been joking.

Sirius tried for a smile, “Uh. Yeah, right.”

The girl let out a shriek, “Right! I mean, it was a bit sketchy, honestly. The woman didn’t even ask my name. But I got the pig so, whatever, right?”

Nicole reached for her water, eyes trained expectantly on Sirius.

“I-“ Sirius had nothing, absolutely nothing to say. “Right…”

Nicole offered a slightly less enthusiastic, more uncomfortable smile, “Okay, maybe not everyone wants a teacup pig then… Whatever.”

Sirius had just enough mind to feel slightly guilty for not playing into the story a little more, when his phone rang.

He didn’t even try to feel guilty for the relief that flooded through him at the sound.

That had to be Lily calling him to tell him it was all a joke and that he was the most gullible person on this planet. Please be Lily. He dug into his coat pocket.

“Hello?”

Faded sirens filled his ear, then the voice of a woman.

“Hello, is this Mr. Sirius Black?”

Sirius’ brow knit, and he held up a finger to Nicole who seemed to be having trouble getting her pasta noodles to stay on her fork and payed him no mind.

“Yes.” He said as he closed the restaurant door, wrapping an arm around himself and his thin sweater against the cold. He tried to push down the worry in his chest at the formal tones, “Yeah, speaking.”

“Mr. Black, I’m calling from Mercy Hospital on behalf of Remus Lupin. Unfortunately, there has been an accident…”

A ringing made its way up from Sirius’ heart into his ears, chilling him. Accident. It was like he was now listening to the world through cotton.

Remus. In an accident. Sirius’ heart beat against his skull. Remus who he hadn’t stopped thinking about for months. Remus who he hadn’t seen for months.

An accident an accidentanaccident.

Hospital

An accident

“Remus…”

Sirius brought a hand up to his mouth, stomach churning.

“Mr. Black? Mr. Black, are you there-“

“Yes. Yes, I-“ He pressed the hand over his eyes, “What- is he-” His voice sounded much too horse, like he’d been shouting. Please tell me he’s okay.

“I wasn’t on call sir, I’m afraid I don’t know the details. ”

Sirius closed his eyes, hand dropping to the brick wall. He felt like he was holding himself together, “Right. Right.”A thought occurred to him, “Wait.”

“Yes, sir?”

“Why are you- I mean, why did you call me? I don’t..” Why not James? Lily? His parents?

“Well, you’re his emergency contact, so…”

Emergency contact? Sirius’ heart sped up, fear combining with the lingering longing for Remus he’d been trying to suppress to a simmer for what felt like forever. It flared up, burning a hole in his chest through and through. Despite the fact that Remus had probably just forgotten about it, Sirius’ heart warmed.

“Right. Thank you. Thanks, I’ll be- in a bit.” He shook his head, he wasn’t making sense.

He didn’t even think he made eye contact with Nicole when he grabbed his jacket and threw (probably too much) money onto the table.

Remus.

It was the only thing going through his mind.

The cabbie tried to talk to him on the ride there but he either didn’t hear the words or doesn’t remember what he said. The city lights were streaks of color in his eyes, and they stayed streaks when the cab stopped moving. He tripped on the curve. It was wet, and red and blue ambulance lights reflected in the puddled yellow surface. When had it started to rain? Sirius saw the sirens but heard only his own breath. The doors opened by themselves and he nearly tripped again. Everything was too white now.

“Remus.” He gasped at the woman behind the desk. He wiped wet hair from his forehead, leaning heavily against the counter, “Remus.”

She obviously recognized him from their phone call not moments before. She got up, motioning for him to follow through another set of doors that opened by themselves. His eyes told him she had started talking to, his ears didn’t.

She stopped outside of a room. 221. This door didn’t open by itself and Sirius was left, hands pressed to the hard wood and face alined with the small window. His heart went to his throat, his stomach into knots.

The scene wasn’t chaotic, but it wasn’t peaceful either. Sirius’ breath fogged up the glass and Remus momentarily looked as if he were asleep on a cloud, not a hospital bed. The sight was angelic and disturbing; it looked too far away. Sirius pushed open the door, wiping the glass as he did and Remus was back in the hospital bed and much, much closer. Panic threatened to simmer up again.

Sirius expected to feel out of place. He expected to feel as if someone else should be here. Remus would want someone else here. Right? But he didn’t. He felt just as draw to Remus now as he had any other day, maybe even more so with the whites of the hospital making him look pale and delicate.

“Drunk driver.”

Sirius jumped at the voice from behind him and turned to see the nurse from the phone flipping through Remus’ chart. She glanced up at him, then nodded her head to Remus, “He’s very lucky, you know.”

Sirius looked at her, then back to Remus with his slowly purpling eye, his bloodied lip, the IV and white bandage striped across his shoulder like a seatbelt.

“Lucky..” He breathed.

The nurse closed it with a clatter, hanging it back on the bed end, “Lucky. To be alive. To have someone come running at a moment’s notice. Honestly, what was that, five minutes?”

Sirius blinked at her. He didn’t know how long it had been.

She just smiled sympathetically and placed a hand on his shoulder, “He’s going to be fine. I’d still stay though. It’s good to have a familiar face around when they wake up.”

Even one they probably hate?

Sirius almost voiced this question, when he realized he had been left alone, door swinging shut behind her. Left alone to stare at Remus’ slowly breathing form on the bed.

Guilt washed through him in sudden, powerful waves.

If I hadn’t let you walk out would you still be in here?

Sirius took a breath and it shuttered its way through him. That was stupid. It had been months ago. There’s no way of knowing…

“Fuck.” He breathed, shuffling a little and looking around. He thought about sitting on the bed, but he wasn’t sure what Remus would do- how he would feel- when he woke up, and he didn’t think close proximity was the best way to find out. He pulled at the stool by the wall instead, wincing when it scraped against the tiles much louder than he had anticipated. He picked it up, placing it next to the bed carefully. He sat awkwardly and straight.

He might have sat there for hours, might have been minutes. Time passed sluggishly, then seemed to speed up, then slow again. His eyes slipped closed, he slumped forward onto the bed, just as dawn was filtering through the blinds and casting lines of warm light across Remus’ face.

Be okay. Sirius said it even in his dreams. Please be okay.

He woke up to a light tapping at his shoulder, long fingers shaking gently. It took him seconds to remember where he was and he sat up too fast, straining his neck.

“Fuck- Remus-“ His eyes went right to Remus, eyes roaming his face, searching for any alarming reasons for Remus to be waking him.

Perhaps the most alarming part of that search was that Remus didn’t look alarmed at all. Or that his hand had slid down Sirius’ shoulder and into his palm. Or that his fingers were gripping Sirius’.

Sirius stared at their hands for a moment, before slowly looping his fingers around Remus’ too, “Remus…”

Remus didn’t say anything. He just looked at their hands too. His eye was fully swollen now, cheek pushing it closed a little, but his lip looked slightly better. The bandage on his chest was clean so Sirius guessed that was good. And Remus just sat there, holding his hand. Sirius’ heart beat. He was utterly helpless against the feeling of Remus’ cool fingers, so utterly helpless.

“Before I blacked out,” Remus’ voice was barely there. He coughed weakly, but shook his head when he saw Sirius eye the cup of water on the bedside table.

“Before I blacked out,” he began again, eyes moving back to their hands, “I was thinking about you.”

Sirius was so, so helpless, “Re…”

“I was hoping they’d call you. I couldn’t remember if..” He coughed again, and this time Sirius took matters into his own hands, holding the cup out. When Remus didn’t take it, he raised it to Remus’ lips, but Remus covered the top, shaking his head, “I was coming to you-“ Another coughing fit but Sirius barely heard it this time.

I was coming to you.

Sirius stared at Remus, wide-eyed. He felt his heart frantically trying to keep up with his lungs, “God, Remus. God, if something had really gone wrong, if you-“

“I’m not-“ He cut himself off again and Sirius sighed.

“For fuck sake, drink.” He didn’t let Remus refuse this time.

When Remus had drained half the glass he let his head fall back against his pillows, eyes staying on Sirius, and hand gripping tighter, “I’m not blaming you. I’m not, Sirius, listen to me. Jesus.”

Sirius couldn’t help it. He pressed his lips to Remus’ knuckles, encasing the chilly hand in both of his own. If something had happened if something had happened his mind kept replaying. He would had never known. You would’ve never got the chance to tell him.

Remus’ eyes flutter at the small gesture and he sighs, “I missed you. God, I’ve missed you so much, Pads, and look, look what happened. We can’t-“ Sirius hears the heart monitor pick up and he shifts onto the edge of the bed, hand pushing through Remus’ hair, trying to calm him.

“We can’t waste a day.” Remus’ eyes are pleading and golden in the dawn light. He breathes for a second, turning his face into Sirius’ palm, “I can’t spend another day. Not like this. Not without you. Anything can happen at any time and- and if something happened and I didn’t have you-“ The monitor starts to pick up again and Remus’ chest is heaving against the bandages and Sirius does the only thing he can think of.

He kisses Remus. It’s soft, and more on the corner of his mouth than anything, to avoid his injury, but its like he can breathe again. His thumb runs along his jaw as he pulls away, forehead against forehead,

“Take it easy love, okay? You don’t have to spend-“ He closes his eyes, “Fuck, Re. Fuck, if you’ll have me you never have to spend another fucking second without me. If I had it my way, I wouldn’t leave your side. I’d never…” Sirius just shakes his head, pressing a kiss to Remus’ forehead, “Okay?”

Remus’ eyes are hooded and sleepy when Sirius looks back to him, but he’s smiling. A smile Sirius knows is reserved just for him, and one he hasn’t seen in a lifetime.

Sirius’ thumbs lightly over the swollen part of Remus’ lip, “Don’t you ever do that to me again, okay? I- fucking hell, Re-“ His voice breaks at the end and he can’t continue.

“I know.” Sirius’ can feel the heart monitor on Remus’ finger press into his cheek, “I was scared too.”

Ever since Bucky fucking Barnes came to the compound, I have NEVER been the same. The man showed up, and all of a sudden I lost all control of my emotions, hormones and body. Literally everything just fell apart. Also, I haven’t gotten laid in over 3 years. 3 YEARS. I’m not the type to take someone home and sleep with them once, or to be friends with benefits. It’s been my only promise to myself, to not have sex with a random stranger JUST because I’m feeling frisky, that’s what I have toys for. I only have sex with someone when I’m in a relationship with them. HOWEVER, James Buchanan Barnes may make me throw out every promise I’ve ever made to myself and not think twice about it. The sad part is I don’t really even know him very well, we only say a few words to one another. For the longest time I thought the guy just didn’t like me, and Steve had to reassure me that’s not the case, he just doesn’t know how to socialize anymore, and certainly doesn’t know how to talk to women. It’ll take some time, and I understand that. Doesn’t make it any less frustrating that I can’t get over this stupid school girl crush I have on the guy.

MASTERLIST

“[Y/nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn],” Bucky drags the last sillable of your name as he plops down on the couch beside you. You have your laptop open and propped up by the arm of the couch, your fingers fly around the keyboard, filling a work’s report.

“Yes?”

“I need you.”

That gets you attention. “With what?” Bucky needed help, your report could wait.

He reached out with both arms, making grabby movements, a pout on his face, doe eyes and lower lip out (a toddler’s expression, but he could it off amazingly good).

“Cuddle me?”

Seriously?

“We’ll cuddle after I finish this, okay?”

Bucky leaned into you, ruffling his nose on your neck.

“Pleaseeeeeee.” Yes, he whined. Bucky Barnes whined.

“Buck, why don’t you go hit the gym until I finish my report?” you asked, stroking his hair with your hand. His head leaned into your touch, closing his eyes. He turned to kiss your palm.

“I don’t wanna,” he mumbled into your hand. “I’m tired. Please, cuddle with me, doll.”

You seriously had to finish your report, like immediately.

“I can lay down with you,” he perked up and that, his eyes shining from excitement - if he had a tail, it would be flipping fast - “But I’ll still have to bring the computer and finish this.”

“Okay.”

Bucky laid flat on his back on the huge couch and you on top of him, chests together.

Your arms outstretched to reach your computer behind his head, on the cushion so you could still type.

His hands crept to your sides, running up and down in a soothing manner. He soon went to do the same across your back and sides.

Then his hands simply settled on your ass.

“Huh, Buck?”

“Yeah, doll?”

Of course he would reply with a smug smile and closed eyes, completely delighted with the situation.

You chuckled, “Oh my God, okay, then.”

You returned to typing away. It wouldn’t be long now.

He squeezed your ass, “You got a great ass, doll, did ya’ know?”

You looked at him, “You tell me every day,” you pecked his lips and he smiled lovingly, “How can I not know that?”

“I just wanted to make sure.”

Just one more paragraph…

He kissed your jaw, travelling down to your neck and to the other side and back to the jaw.

“Bucky,” you whispered and he hummed for you to proceed, the noise sending shivers up your spine, “Let me finish and we’ll cuddle. I’m almost done.”

“Okay.”

But he didn’t move his lips from your neck nor his hands from your ass, which squeezed from time to time.

And the last paragraph had to be the longest, after all. Fury was burning in your mind, this was a really long report with very little time for you to write it. And you wanted to cuddle with your whining I-could-kill-any-person-in-this-planet-including-Natasha-but-I-just-wanna-cuddle boyfriend.

There,” you beamed, “Final dot.”

“That means…”

“Yes, Buck. Cuddle.”

He made you lay on your stomach again, but this time on the bed. Little difference: he wasn’t under you. No, he was perpendicular to you, his head on your hard yet soft ass, his arms massaging your lower back. He had fetched food and drinks for you as you picked the movie that rolled on the big screen.

Cuddly Bucky was the best.

“Doll?” he called, quietly.

“Yeah, Buck?” you answered with a calming tone.

“I love you.”

You smiled.

“I love you too, Bucky.”

“Doll?”

“Yeah?”

“Having something you can’t bear to lose is fucking scary. And I you’re mine.”

You slid down on the bed and lined your face with his. “You won’t lose me. I promise.”

He looked into your eyes, searching. You held his gaze lovingly. Apparently he found what he was looking for.

Tenderly, he held your face and kissed you. There was no hurry, no fear; just love and care.

When he pulled away, he asked, “Can we cuddle again?”

“Same way?”

“Please,” his puppy dog eyes were irresistible. Once settled on your ass again, you heard him mumbling, “Why the hell I’ve never thought of this before?”

Part 2: In a Very Dark Coffee

You looked around as you felt like someone was watching you. And then you noticed a little girl, walking aimlessly in the school’s park; her eyes were watching the road, like she was waiting for someone to come to pick her up. You furrowed your brows, you wondered, if she has a family. You’ve been working at this school almost two years now, but you can swear that you’ve never seen this gorgeous little lady before.

You took a deep breath as your feet making their ways to the girl. When you reached to the girl, you put your hand on her tiny shoulder, causing her to jump.

“Hey,” you said. “Are you okay?” The girl sniffed, you realized that she had been crying all the time. Fat tears rolling on her pink cheeks, making her beautiful green eyes shine with tears. You felt a heaviness on your chest and reached out to her to cup her cheeks.

“Why are you crying?” You asked her with a soothing voice. She sniffed again but didn’t answer. “Come here.” You grabbed her by the shoulders and embraced her. “Where are your parents? Is there someone to pick you up?”

This time, she nodded. “My daddy…” She said but tears rolled again, making her gasp. You rubbed her back, trying to calm her down, so she can speak with you more easily. “He said that he was gonna come.” She sniffed again. You dug your hand to your purse, pulling out a tissue for her. She took the tissue and murmured a broken thanks.

“Why don’t you come with me?” You offered. “We can call your dad when we got to my apartment.” You showed the sky. “You can’t wait under the rain.” She looked at you, her eyes was calculating you and your offer. She nodded, after a couple of minutes.

“Okay,” she said. She was only trusting you because you were working at her school and she was kind of admiring you. You were a pretty good artist for her, and she had always loved your drawings and your students’ drawings. You were a good teacher. “Okay,” she said again. You smiled warmly at her, got up to your feet and held out your hand to her.

“Come on, then,” you said while she was taking your hand and squeezing a little. “What’s your name?” You asked.

“Natasha,” she said. “But my daddy calls me Natka.” Rebecca smiled as she was talking about her father. Your smile got bigger. She really loves her father so much, it was very obvious.

“Nice to meet you, Natasha, I’m Y/N.” She smiled at you, her few front teeth were no place to found. “Such a lovely smile you have!” You commented her and watched her cheeks slowly painted to a cute pink color.

“Thank you, Miss,” she said shyly. You laughed wholeheartedly and helped her get into your car. You buckled her seatbelt and walked around your car to sit your own seat.

“Are you okay?” You asked her, looking into her eyes through the mirror. She nodded, there was still a small, warm smile on her lips. “Let’s go!” You said and started the engine.

“I love hot chocolate!” Natasha exclaimed as you offered her a drink and gave her a few options to choose. You gigled at her reaction.

“Hot chocolate, then!” You said, turned around to making her hot chocolate. “Natasha, can you bring me your bag? We should call your father, he must be wondered about where have you been.” Natasha nodded furiosly and ran into the living room. You laughed quietly, she was fire, it was very obvious.

“Here, Miss Y/N!” She held out her school bag. You dryed your hands, put the hot chocolate filled cup in front of her and took the bag. Opening few zippers and looking small place for a phone number, you found it in her drawing book.

“I didn’t know you have some good drawings!” You exclaimed as your eyes cathing one of her drawings. It was very good, the lines and colors were right on the point and it was making the drawing perfect. “Wow,” you said with an awe expression on your face. But you remembered her father and closed her book, garbbing the little piece of paper that has her father’s number on. You quickly dialed the number and waited for him to take the call.

“Hello?” A baritone, deep voice accepted the call. You blinked for a few times.

“Uhm, is this James Barnes?” You asked for a clarification.

“Yes? Is this about some new client? I’m full right now and I have things to do, like finding my little daughter in this goddamn city.” He sounded angry and sad at a time. You felt your heart broken about how scared he must be.

“Uh, it’s actually about your daughter, Mr. Barnes,” you said slowly. You heard a break noise and few horns.

“Is she okay?!” He exclaimed. You swallowed.

“Yes!” You said in a hurry to calm him down. “Yes, she is perfectly fine, drinking a hot chocolate.” Your ears picked a relived breath sound and your heartbeat slowed down a little bit. “I can give you the address for you picking her up.”

“Ye–yeah, that’d be great. Shit, I was freaking out about where the fuck she have been.” He murmured quietly but you heard. You gave him the address.

“It was raining and I just couldn’t leave her there alone.” You heard a quiet chuckle from the otherside, your stomach filled with butterflies with the sound –but you ignored it.

“Yeah, she has that ability to mesmerize people by just looking a little lost. Thank you, though. I’ll be there in ten minutes.” He closed the phone, when you said okay and you turned Natasha, who was playing with the few marshmellows on her hot chocolate.

“He said that he is gonna be here in ten minutes,” you told Natasha. “I’m just gonna change my clothes and come back, okay?” Natasha nodded and you ran off to your room. You got rid of the pen skirt that you had been wearing whole day and the blouse that hanging too loose on your shoulders. You felt relived when you were walking back to the kitchen.

And that’s when you heard the doorbell ring. Your heart skipped a beat for a second, and your brain wondered about his look. You made your way to your door while Natasha ran out off from the kitchen. You opened the door while you were –kind of– yelling her.

“Slow down! You’re gonna hurt yourself!” But, girl, did Natasha listen.

Папа!” She yelled and jumped onto the person at the door. Bucky hugged Natasha tightly.

“Hey, Коmенок,” Bucky murmured into her neck and looked right into your eyes.

And that’s when your world stopped spinning. Shit, you thought. Shit, this man is fucking gorgeous. His middle-lenght, dark brown hair was tucked behind his ears, five o’closk shadow stubble was covering his chin and part of his cheeks, but girl, it doesn’t hide his lips. They were sinful looking, plumpy and covered in some shade of pink. You swallowed hard and smiled at him a little forcefully. He pulled himself out of Natasha.

“Thank you for took care of her. I was stuck at the traffic and missed her time.” He shookt his head, a few locks freeing theirselves from behind his ears. His long, graceful fingers tucked them back at their places.

“I-It’s okay,” you managed. “We had fun.” You shrugged. Natasha nodded.

“Yes!” She exclaimed. “Miss Y/N and I had fun Папа!” Bucky laughed at his daughter’s excitement. You joined him and giggled quietly.

“Yeah, she look like a funny person,” Bucky said as his eyes were traveling head to toe on you. You felt your cheeks started to heating up and looked down. “But it’s time to go, come on get your bag.” He said as he was putting Natasha down. Your head snapped up at him, trying to find an excuse for him to stay more.

“Uh… It’s gonna rain heavily, why don’t you guys stay a little more? :It says that rain is gonna stop in a couple hours.” You offered to him.

Папа? Please? Can we stay a little more? I don’t wanna go hom just yet!” Natasha popped her redhead out of your back, her little hand clinging tightly on your comfy sweatpant.

Котенок, let’s go,” Bucky said in a stern tone. His eyes turned at to you. “Thank you but we should reall–“ A thunder growled behind him and the rain started to fall down to the earth roughly. “We should really stay inside, I think,” he continued his words with a different way. You giggled.

“Told you so,” you retorted. He shookt his head as he was laughing.

“I thınk we can stay a little more, yes,” he answered your question. Natasha giggled with the victory. You and Bucky both laughed at her. You turned to him.

“Coffee, Mr. Barnes?” He looked into your eyes intimately. You shivered under his piercing icy blue eyes.

“Yes, please,” he said. “And it’s Bucky, Mr. Barnes makes me feel old somehow and I’m just 32 years old for God’s sake.” You laughed at his words. He rolled his eyes.

“Okay, then, Mr. Barnes, this way.” He threw you a bitch-face and made you laugh a little harder. But there was a smile on his gorgeous lips.

“Seriously?” he asked. You shrugged playfully. He rolled his eyes again, knowing that you are going to conitnue this until he made you shut up about it.

“Any sugar to your coffee, Mr. Barnes?” You asked him, your eyes were shining amusement. Bucky smirked at you, checking around for Natasha with a quick glance, he turned his playfull-smirk into a devilish-smirk.

“Just put a little you in it, that’d be enough for me.” He teased with you. You froze at his words, almost knocking over the coffee pot in your hand. “Because I like my coffee with natural sugar in it, and I’m sure you’re one of them.”

“Really?” You whisper shouted at him. “Natasha is around, you know.” You reminded him with a roll in your eyes. Grabbing the two coffee glasses and putting them on the table.

“She won’t be after one and a half an hour later,” he said, shrugging. “She never skips a minute about her bed time.” He winked at you. You opened your mouth for somewhat respond but Natasha barged into the kitchen, with pens and her drawing book in her little hands.

“Miss Y/N can you teach me draw?” she asked you innocently. You looked at Bucky first, just to find hi smirking at you devilishly, and then you turned your eyes to Natasha.

“Sure, honey,” you said to her with a huge smile on your face. “Let’s leave your daddy in here, by himself and we have fun inside.”

“Okay!” Natasha said and ran into the living room. You got up to your feet and got ready to pass him.

Enjoy yourself, Mr. Barnes,” you said to him and left him there, and followed Natasha into your livining room. Bucky laughed at himself.

You were in trouble but the trouble he is in it right now, is bigger than yours. And he was okay with that.

Toss and Turn

Pairing: Bucky x Reader

Warnings: Kinda fluffy, kinda sad.

A/N: Oh man, I just got really sad thinking about Bucky having nightmares for some reason. But yeah, not my best.

Your eyes fluttered open slowly when you heard a noise that sounded very far away. Still half asleep, it took a few seconds for you to realize what it was, but when you did, you knew exactly what was happening.

It was a mix of grunts and the plates on Bucky’s metal arm gripping the sheets while a faint “no, stop!” escaped from his lips. His face was covered in a thin layer of sweat and his eyes were tightly shut. Another nightmare.

As much as he’d like it to be the case, Thomas did not at first recognize the kid loitering around the office. He did however, recognize that the kid couldn’t be more than 10 years old, if that- and was therefore too young to be standing around anywhere, never mind outside the ‘Washington and Associates’ law firm.

It wasn’t quite time to pack up, but Thomas figured this was more important. Plus, no one else was dealing with it, or even noticing. He saved his work, and stood up.

“Leaving early?” James poked his head up, at Thomas’ movement.

“There’s a kid hanging around outside, it’s distracting,” Thomas explained. James peeked out the window, furrowed his brows, and nodded.

“Don’t take too long,” James reminded, turning back to his work. Thomas rolled his eyes and nodded, even though he knew James’ attention was already back to his work.

The kid jumped when Thomas opened the door, immediately turning around and looking down as if he just happened to be standing there. It wasn’t very convincing.

“Hi,” Thomas pitched his voice, warmer and completely devoid of his usual sarcastic drawl. “You’ve been standing out here for a while, is there anything I can help you with?” Up close, the kid was even smaller. The parents had better be nearby, or Thomas would be having words.

“Uhh,” The kid’s head bobbed up, then straight down, his mass of curls hiding his face. Thomas felt his heart thaw, just a bit- the kid was just shy. Which was fair, given Thomas was a tall, mysterious stranger. Even adults tended to be intimidated. Thomas leaned down, dropping to the kid’s level.

“That’s okay,” Thomas tried to put the kid at ease. “Could you tell me where your parents are, so we can find them?”

“Umm,” The kid started again, but this time he brushed his hair behind an ear and glanced up to Thomas’ chin. “Mom’s at her home, I’m s'posed to be with Dad this week, and he’s s'posed to be here. I think.” He nervously glanced up at the building. “There’s only one Washington law place, right?”

Ah, a divorced kid. “Yes, as far as I’m aware, this is the only Washington law place,” Thomas didn’t want to correct the kid and possibly confuse him. Still, he couldn’t stop an amused smile at the term ‘law place’. “Can you tell me your Dad’s name?”

The kid froze, paling instantly. “U-uh, it’s my Dad, um…” He started shaking. Crap.

Thomas thought quickly. “It’s okay, it’s okay!” He smiled wide, waving his hand in what he hoped was more comforting than dismissive, though he used it in the latter sense far more often. “Could you tell me your name, instead?”

“Oh!”, the kid grinned. “My name’s Philip Hamilton! I’m 8 years old!” Thomas nearly flinched. There was only one Hamilton who worked at Washington’s, and there was no way this was a coincidence. He should have guessed- Hamilton’s divorce was well known in lawyer circles, and now that he was looking for it, the kid’s face bore some resemblance. Standing in front of Thomas was his biggest work rival’s son.

There wasn’t anything for it, though. Thomas was hardly going to just leave the kid out here. “Nice to meet you, Philip. I work with your Dad. My name’s Thomas Jefferson.”

Philip’s eyes lit up in recognition. Thomas had just enough time to worry about what exactly the kid was recognizing. “Jefferson? Dad mentions you all the time! He says you’re really distracting!”

Distracting, huh? Not 'evil’, not 'idiotic’; nor any of the other insults Hamilton would shout to his face? Not even 'bad man’, if he wanted to soften it to his kid? Thomas itched to ply Philip for answers, for what Hamilton really thought; but it was the middle of winter and now was not the time.

“How about we wait inside for your Dad, and you tell me what you’re doing out here?” Thomas spoke cautiously, not sure how Philip would react to being asked to go somewhere with a relative stranger.

Strangely though, Philip’s shyness went straight out the window after his introduction. “Oh! That’s because Dad promised me this time, for real promised, that he’d get off work on time and take me to see a movie! I wanted to make sure he really would, so I looked up 'Washington law’ on google and bussed here all by myself!” Thomas led the way to the building as Philip chattered, small hand immediately latching onto Thomas’ fingers.

“That’s very cool!” Thomas enthused, opening the door and immediately shooting a glare at every person who stared. “Now, your Dad’s out now, the boss sent him to the courthouse to drop something off, but we can wait for him, alright?”

Philip beamed. “Alright! This place looks even cooler than I thought!” He was so enthusiastic, that Thomas couldn’t help but smile back. Hamilton would still be getting an earful, being so unreliable that his 8 year old child felt the need to escape his babysitter and bus through the middle of town to check up on him. Hell, did he even have a babysitter?

Thomas’ work was left, forgotten on his desk. James would clean up for him, this was more important. “What do you say to meeting your Dad’s boss?” He needed to at least explain the situation, after all.

“Mr. Washington? Yeah! Dad says he’s too nosy, and Mom says he’s basically like my second grandpa, even though I’ve never met him before.”

Thomas couldn’t stop the chuckle if he tried. “Did he? You’ll have to tell me more, later.” He joked, but Philip nodded anyways. This was far better than finishing his work.

Alex was determined to keep his promise, for real this time. He was not staying late, and if possible, he would even be home early. Washington owed it to him, for all that free overtime.

Unfortunately, all the owing in the world meant nothing when Washington ordered him to take some important documents to the courthouse, a good half hour away, when the day was nearly over. Alex could never say no to a direct request like that, even if Washington probably would have relented if he explained his circumstances.

No, he could do this and still be out on time, if he drove straight to Philip’s school, instead of back to the firm, first. Alex did so, driving as fast as he reasonably could.

Only, when he did that, Philip had already left, instead of waiting for him. In fact, he had left for the washroom in the last hour of class, and never returned, according to the teacher. Alex barely spared the time to chew them out for not keeping a better headcount, and then he was running off to his car and to home.

Philip wasn’t at home either. Alex started panicking in earnest. He could be anywhere, but why would he? Philip was so excited about going to see the movie, he wouldn’t have just run off today of all days, would he? But he alternative- if Philip hadn’t purposefully run off himself- was far worse. Alex started by doing circles of the neighbourhood, then the local parks.

Alex was focused; so focused that his phone remained in his pocket, battery dead before he’d even realized Philip was missing.

It must have been hours later, the sun starting to set, when Alex finally gave up. He had panicked somewhere early down the line, and never quite stopped. His limbs were shaking. Alex had lost his son.

He didn’t want to even think about the phone call he would have to make to Eliza. But first, he’d check the house again, just in case. Alex wasn’t holding out much hope at this point.

Alex was just stressed enough to miss the strange car behind his in the driveway. He was not, however, too stressed to notice two people sitting in his living room.

“Hamilton, about time!” Jefferson waved his arms enthusiastically, though something sharp glinted in his eyes. Alex’s brain stuttered for a moment at the sight of his coworker/rival relaxing in his home, but then Philip was bounding into his arms.

“Dad! Where the heck where you? Mr. Jefferson’s called you like, a million times!”

“Wha- Philip, where have you been? You weren’t at school, the teachers told me you disappeared, you weren’t at home, I’ve been worried sick, looking for you!” Harsh, panicked words spilled from Alex’s mouth, even as he seized his son in a fierce hug. “Don’t scare me like that!”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to,” Philip hugged back tight, voice suddenly subdued and guilty. “I just wanted to find you at work, so you’d actually go on time.”

Alex loosened his hug so that he could face Philip directly. “Wait, you what-?” Alex cut himself off, remembering the other person in the room. “Jefferson, why the fu-heck are you here?” Philip’s head poked up at Alex’s accusatory tone, brows furrowing in confusion.

“Nice save,” Jefferson smirked, always as irritating as possible. “Also, is that really the way you want to be speaking to the guy who’s been watching your kid all evening? When I could have been doing anything else with my time?”

There was no reason for Jefferson to be lying. In fact, that answer made the most sense, given that Jefferson had literally been in his home, watching Philip, when Alex got in there. Still though, this was Jefferson. Instinctive denial surged in his chest. “Excuse me-”

“I’m sorry!” Philip shouted again, lip trembling. He wasn’t looking at Alex though, instead facing Jefferson. “I didn’t mean to waste your day!”

Alex’s blood ran cold. That was exactly the opening one could never make to Jefferson- he could never hold back his infuriating sarcastic comments. He was going open his mouth and spout some negative bullshit that would make Philip cry, because Jefferson was an asshole who didn’t have any kids and probably hated them.

Jefferson did open his mouth, but his eyes were suddenly wide, with surprise and maybe guilt- something Alex had never seen him wear. He scrambled off the couch. “No no, I didn’t mean that, Philip! You’ve been great fun!” Jefferson assured, stepping over to crouch in front of Philip.

Philip looked up at him cautiously. Alex held his breath, completely taken aback. “Really?”, Philip whispered, and Alex could hear the tiny smile working its way into his voice.

“Of course!” Jefferson reached a hand over to ruffle his hair. “I got to read all your poems, and you got to hear all about the silly things your Dad does at work! It’s just that your Dad’s back now, so I should probable get going.” He gave Philip a wide grin, full of warmth and life.

Alex wasn’t sure he’d ever seen Jefferson with a smile like that. It did something to his stomach that he’d rather not analyze.

“No! You gotta stay for supper! We can’t do the movie anymore anyways, right Dad!” Philip bounced back, both emotionally and literally, on the balls of his feet.

Alex opened his mouth, searching for an excuse that wouldn’t upset Philip. Then, he glanced over to Jefferson. He was fidgeting, glancing away awkwardly. With a start, Alex realized he must have actually had fun. Somehow, Jefferson was actually really good with kids, if Philip’s excitement meant anything; and now he was standing there, in Alex’s house, looking more awkward and vulnerable than Alex had ever seen him.

“Yeah… yeah, he can stay. If he wants to.” Alex didn’t even want to guess what his face looked like right now. He wasn’t even sure what his feelings looked like right now. It was all a mess of exposed wires, his entire worldview turned on its head.

Jefferson flinched in surprise for a moment, eyes snapping to Alex. Then, he gauged Alex’s pure, undiluted confusion, and a smile slowly took his face, one that more closely resembled the teasing smirks Alex was used to. Now though, it seemed just a little less aggressive than Alex remembered.

“I suppose I can stay and tell your Dad all about how you skipped your last class, looked up his workplace online, and then bussed there all by yourself without telling anybody.” Jefferson shrugged, nonchalant.

“What! Mr. Jefferson, no!” Philip whined, even as he smiled broadly. “I’m gonna get grounded!”

Jefferson laughed. “Well, whose fault is that? You’re a little troublemaker!”

Philip spouted denials in between giggles. Alex felt his paradigm shift further off axis. “I guess I’ll get started,” Alex said, quiet and distant. He stood up and edged his way to the kitchen. Jefferson and Philip continued to chat in his hallway.

Somewhere between numb and completely unsure of himself, Alex turned the oven on and got out a frozen pizza. He took as much time as he could retrieving the round pan and opening the pizza box. Replaying in his mind was the smile Jefferson had made at Philip. His stomach flipped again.

“Hey,” Jefferson’s voice was calm and subdued, but made Alex jump a foot anyways. “I put the TV on for Philip.” He was right behind Alex, nearly crowding him into the counter. “I assume you want to know what’s been going on? No one’s been on the same page today.”

Alex swallowed. It wasn’t the first time Jefferson had crowded him, Alex had realized over time that it was more a matter of not knowing about personal space, rather than an active bid at intimidation. It was also overwhelming, especially now. “Uh,” Alex started, horrified at the squeak his voice made. “I guess not.”

Jefferson smirked- how could he not?- but relented, backing up a step. “It really wasn’t all that crazy. The kid showed up in the last hour of work, and no one else would do it, so I watched him. Tried to call your phone, I’m assuming it’s dead.” Alex dug into his pocket, pulling out a very dead phone. He paled. “No, it’s fine, it’s done.” Jefferson waved his hand dismissively. “I didn’t- I mean, it wasn’t awful.”

Alex paused at Jefferson’s stutter. His ears were pink. Adorable, Alex thought, then shook it from his mind. “Thank you,” he said instead.

“Uhhh,” Jefferson’s ears turned pinker. “No offense, but that sounds so weird coming from you.” Suddenly, he started laughing. “And I just said 'no offense’, which is even weirder!”

Alex snorted. Giggles stumbled their way between his lips, turning into chuckles, then full blown laughter. “Oh my God,” Alex wheezed, “This is so weird!”

Jefferson was howling right beside him. “I know, right?!”

Their laughs petered off, save for a quiet snicker from the distance. Both their heads whipped around- Philip peeked from the doorway. “Dad hasn’t laughed like that in ages,” He said knowingly. “You guys should hang out more. Hey, can Mr. Jefferson come with us to the movie, next time?”

Alex flushed, his mind stumbling to a stop, not sure if it was from the sheer audacity of the question, or how the idea of going out with Jefferson sounded too much like a date. His only saving grace was that it was probably the last thing Jefferson wanted, anyways. It didn’t matter that the sight of him being so nice to Philip did things to Alex’s heart.

“That sounds nice. If your Dad agrees.” Jefferson gave Philip an indulgent smile, then turned to Alex, question standing.  A quiet blush graced his cheekbones as well. He looked so much more attractive- cute, Alex’s brain supplied- when it was open like this. Usually, Jefferson’s appearance was the only attractive thing about him. Alex realized suddenly that he was gone- had been gone the moment Jefferson had revealed a side of himself that wasn’t pure opposition to everything Alex stood for.

“Alright,” Alex agreed. He needed to see where this was going. He was going to figure Jefferson out, or die trying.

It was late and he knew he should be home, he knew he had work at the publishing office early tommorow morning, but Jughead Jones was not one to do what was expected of him, especially not when he had the worst case of writers block he had ever come across.

He was staring blankly at the open poppy field in front of him, New York City was definitely nothing like Riverdale, the pushing and the yelling and the overpopulated streets, so when he came across this hidden gem he had been eternally grateful for the tiny bit of peace and serenity it provided.

Archie snored loudly from the back of the beat up pick up truck Jughead was currently perched on top of, He smiled at his obnoxious best friend and went back to scribbling in his notebook. Jughead needed inspiration, he was at a standstill with his novel and Archie was happy to tag along, happy to be away from the studio for a bit, even if he couldn’t keep his eyes open for longer than an hour. Archie was an up and coming musician and he worked tirelessly to get his music heard, something Jughead had always admired about his best friend.

His eyes were fairly close to glazing over themselves as he watched the orange and purple sunset dip lower behind the hills.

“Betty! Please, these are givenchi! I’m going to get Pollen all over my new cape!”

Jughead eyes snapped open at the sound of a very agitated female voice, squinting into the distance he saw what had the dark haired girl so up in arms.

Honey blonde hair and long tans legs peeking out of a long flower white maxi skirt, slit up the side and blowing behind her as she pulled what he assumed was her friend through the flowers

“I’m gonna miss it Ronnie, I just found the perfect color for the sky and I’m gonna miss it if we don’t hustle! Move that Pilates sculpted booty!” She giggled, her hands gripping a variety of colored pencils and a thick white sketchbook.

Jughead couldn’t tear his eyes away from the blonde, her midriff was bare and toned underneath the loser white crop top as she made her way towards him, her eyes were looking directly past him at the sunset in the distance and he could make out bright hazel green irises. Apparently all the commotion woke sleeping beauty from his slumber and Archie crawled towards the roof of the car, setting his eyes on the approaching girls.

“Hey, you didn’t tell me there’d be chicks, look at the dark haired one.” Archie rubbed his eyes sleepily, leaning forward to get a better look.

Suddenly the two girls were directly in front of the dark green pick up truck and The blonde was climbing on top of it.

“Elizabeth!” The raven haired girl shouted, her eyes wide and appalled.

She continued to climb
“I’m so sorry, but I really need this view, I’m so sorry!”

She pushed past Archie and dropped beside Jughead, ripping the sketchbook open and immediately sketching the sight before her.

“I am so sorry about her. She’s an artist, I’m sure you know how temperamental they are. It’s the heat I think, it’s gotten to her, made her forget her manners.” Her friend stated pointedly, her hands on her hips as she shook her head.

Jughead was speechless, this absolute enigma of a girl was seated beside him, her thigh pressed against his as she effortlessly drew the most beautiful piece of work he had ever seen, he watched her draw strokes on the paper, the colors perfectly matching the scenery in front of them. He vaguely heard Archie helping the dark haired girl into the bed of the truck, when the beauty in question glanced up , placing her pencil down and sighing relived, apologetic eyes meeting his captured ones.

“I really am so sorry, it’s just the sunset moves so quickly ya know, I haven’t been able to capture it all week. And this is perfect.”

Jughead shook his head
“I get it, don’t worry about it. You can climb my truck anytime.” He smiled at the light blush that rose to her cheeks. She stuck her hand out

“I’m Betty Cooper, it’s nice to meet you.”

Betty Cooper?! His jaw visibly dropped as he stared blatantly. Betty Cooper was one of the most well known young artists in all of NewYork, her work was hung in the some of the best galleries in the cities. People begged for her work, she chose to remain anonymous in the sense of face to face. The only thing people knew of Betty Cooper was her and name and her talent.

From behind him he heard a giggle
“That’s not usually the reaction she gets.”

He looked over and The pearl wearing girl was perched on Archie’s lap

“I’m Veronica Lodge. And yes I am the world famous fashion designer, no need to drop your draw twice James Dean.”

Jughead raised a brow, he had never heard of her but from the looks of her he could tell she wasn’t lying.

“She’s very proud of her work.” Betty giggled from beside him, he could tell that the quiet blonde didn’t share the same outgoing personality as her friend, but from the soft way she smiled at Veronica it was clear they were very close.

“I’m Jughead Jones. Definitely not as accomplished as you but Jughead Jones nonetheless.” He gripped her hand, holding it for a second longer than necessary. His stomach flip flopping at the unfamiliar feeling, something in her eyes shifted and he knew she was feeling the same thing.

“He will be famous though, he’s writing a book and it’s really good, his publisher is just waiting for it to be finished.” Archie said from below, his arm slung lazily around Veronica’s waist as he whispered in her ear.

“You write!” Betty smiled, her hand moving to grip his arm as she looked at him excitedly.

Jughead blushed rose petal pink, and nodded shyly

“Something like that.”

“Id love to read your work some time.” She was so soft and gentle, Jughead wasn’t accustomed to this type of woman, growing up on the Southside of Riverdale, girls were bitter and angry, moving to New York he hadn’t been interested in finding anyone, but with her soft hand around his forearm and her long blonde hair brushing his cheek.. well maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. He shook his head quickly, like she would be interested in somelike you, her a grip Jughead, His mothers nasal sharp voice echoed in his head.

“Well lover boys, we better get going. I have a meeting in Paris tommorow morning and then I’m back here by lunch.” Veronica shrugged, daintily stepping off the bed of the truck as Archie helped her down.

Betty rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at Jughead as he laughed quietly, his hands wrapped around her waist and he carefully dropped her in front of him, her feet on solid ground, she stared up at him.

“Id like to see you again Jughead Jones.” She whispered.

Jughead swallowed heavily, his eyes boring into hers

“Id like that Betty Cooper”

She pulled her sketch pad out and scribbled her number down on torn piece of paper. Handing it to him she threw him a final glance and followed Veronica towards the trail.

Jughead watched her retreating back his fingers clutching the number in his hand, Archie came to stand beside him, holding his palm open

“Dude! You got her number too? Awesome! Veronica wrote hers in lipstick so I can’t really close my hand until I can find my phone…” Archie rambled on and Jughead smiled staring down at the piece of paper.

Jughead Jones life was about to become a whole lot different.
