Hello. In a recent post "House in akitsu", the architect told about creating silence, yet the entire house was made of concrete or so it looked. Isn't concrete and its reflective acoustic properties the opposite of a silent material ?

Yes, the architect says that “the most interesting challenge for this project was to create a comfortable inside silence combined with a new openness atmosphere”.

Concrete could be considered a loud material because it has no acoustic absorption qualities but I can tell you from personal experience that a concrete house is quieter than a wood house. When you walk without shoes on a concrete house there are no creaks or thumps, if you have the windows closed very little noise from the outside makes its way inside and the house movements caused by thermal differences are seldom felt. Only if you are loud will a concrete house be loud.

You can see the house in question here: House in Akitsu

PS You have to admit that those stairs are gorgeous!

Do you find yourself always being critical of other architectural designs when you visit different places?

YES, any architect that says otherwise is LYING!

You will always find things you would do different, again, we have been taught to solve problems in different ways, if everyone agreed in only one solution then all the buildings would look alike. This attitude is not exclusive to architects but is part of all creative arts. Whatever you don’t hate you end up incorporating into your inspiration bank.

Don’t forget the immense amount of effort and money that went into the building you are critiquing, and don’t be too harsh, because someone will do the same thing to your designs.

Building the second Death Star
  • Palpatine: don't forget the throne room
  • Lead architect: the what?
  • Palps: the first death star didn't have a throne room. I need a room with a window where I can watch worlds burn
  • Architect: yes, my lord
  • Palps: and don't forget the spinny chair and giant chasm. It's not a throne room without a giant chasm
  • Architect: very well, my lord
  • Palps: I'm sure I will never regret this

Hi, I have a question for you that's been bothering me ever since I've taken the test mult. times to always get the result of INTP. Problem is, everywhere that I look it says that INTP people are "architects", "mathematicians", and "engineers". However, I'm an artist, and I find myself incapable of all of the things I'm "supposed" to be good at. I do like some analytical things, like correcting grammar, organization, etc. But numbers are beyond my grasp. Am I actually INTP?

Stereotypes are huge in MBTI. It’s generally what makes MBTI so popular and appealing. Sure, millions of people have taken the MBTI test and gotten results, but does that mean they actually know what it means? No. Certainly not. They’re filled with the common stereotypes of their type. Yes, many INTPs are architects, mathematicians, and engineers. But are all? No.

I am also an artist.
I can barely pass math classes once you hit Algebra.
Ask me a basic chemistry question and I bet you I can’t answer it.
Formulas? Rules? Nope. Not gonna happen.

Being INTP doesn’t mean you have to be great at math, or plan to be some master scientist math nasa geek. I, personally, have a very low interest in all the INTP careers that are generally given.

The only important thing in determining whether or not you are an INTP, are your Cognitive Functions. Your Ti, Ne, Si, Fe. If you identify with all of those, in that order, then you are golden. It doesn’t matter what you do with them, but what they do to you. The Cognitive Functions are all about how you take in and put out the world and it’s inhabitants. It’s literally how you react to things, how you change things, how you feel about things, how you think about things, how you interact with things, and how you perceive things interacting with you.

MBTI does not define your interests, hobbies, life goals, ambitions, or lifestyle. You do.

MBTI just happens to be involved on how you perceive, judge, and deal with them.
