yellow monkey flower

The most common species of monkey-flower that I have encountered is simply called Yellow Monkey-Flower (Mimulus Guttatus). I found many examples of this species growing on wet, mossy cliffs along the Oregon Coast and in the Coast Range Mountains. In the Willamette Valley, these plants are common along streams and ditches. The name ‘monkey flower’ originates from the grinning, ape-like faces of the flowers.
