A Pamiri woman holds a young boy in the village of Matravn in Yazgulom, located in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province in Tajikistan. Matravn is a small, rural village in the poorest country in Central Asia. Its residents lead materially modest lives. Some Tajiks believe that it is one of the few remaining places in all of Tajikistan in which traditional lifestyles are maintained.
