If you’ve ever wondered what it takes for a sports bike to make it across the Arctic, then intrepid explorer Sjaak Lucassen has the answer as he has fitted huge wheels and modified the forks and swingarm on his Yamaha R1.

After travelling 150,000 miles around the globe on his Yamaha superbike in four years, Sjaak’s next motorcycle adventure will see him make the trip from the Northernmost point of the United States to the Southernmost point in Florida.

Some will say that the R1 is wildly inappropriate for this adventure, but Sjaak says that it is best to give with a bike that he is comfortable with past knowledge to make any repairs at sub-zero temperatures.
