Yahoo Mail Update: Never Guess Who’s Calling or Email Yourself a Photo Again

By Michael Albers, VP, Product Management

Get excited! Two unique features are coming to Yahoo Mail: Caller ID and photo upload.

We’ve all been there – letting a call from an unknown number go to voicemail, only to realize it was the person you were just emailing. Or sitting down at your laptop to send photos to friends and remembering they’re stuck on your phone. Now, thanks to the Yahoo Mail app, you’ll never have to guess who’s calling or email yourself a photo again.

Ready to upgrade your inbox? Update your Yahoo Mail app today and read on to learn more.

Whose phone number is this? Never ask again….

Our new Caller ID feature will show you who’s calling, even if the number isn’t saved in your phone. How? Simple. Yahoo Mail uses contact information from your emails. If you’re like most of our users, you have at least 200 phone numbers sitting in your email. Now, your contact’s name will surface with the call; and Yahoo Mail will update names in your call history or when you dial. Mystery solved.

To enable this feature on your iPhone (iOS 10 and above), simply go to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification, toggle the switch for Yahoo Mail, and voilà!

Access your mobile photos instantly on your desktop.

With the new photo upload feature, we’re bridging the gap between your phone and desktop to make photo sharing seamless. Once the feature is enabled, your recent camera roll photos will be instantly available when accessing your Yahoo Mail account on desktop. You’ll also be able to search your mobile photos easily in the sidebar thanks to Yahoo’s image recognition technology. For example: searching for “beach”, “ocean”, or “snow” will pull up relevant photos from your recent trips.

We know you’re going to love this new feature! Here’s how to enable it: Just open the Yahoo Mail app on iOS or Android, go to Settings > Photo upload, and tap the “Upload photos” toggle.

And don’t worry – these photos are only visible to you and the people you decide to send them to. Additionally, you can remove any photo directly from Yahoo Mail without affecting your camera roll. Have questions? Check out this FAQ.

Consider for a moment that our inboxes have become a place where all of our life’s details are captured and stored. With smarter contacts and better photo-sharing, we’re helping you take full advantage of your inbox!

Make sure to update your Yahoo Mail app in in the App Store (iOS 4.13) and Google Play (Android 5.13) to enjoy these features today.

  • Customizable swipes: Choose which action appears when you swipe left or right on a message, including delete, archive, move and more.

  • Personalized themes and stationery: Make your inbox more personalized with custom themes and your notes more modern with stationery from Paperless Post.
  • Ditch your password:  Never stress about remembering your password again. Enable Account Key for secure, password-free sign in.
  • Multiple mailbox management: If you already have a Yahoo email account, you can easily connect and manage email accounts from Gmail, Outlook.com, Hotmail and AOL.

Managing Your Yahoo Account Access is Easier than Ever

By Dylan Casey, Vice President of Product Management

We’re making it easier than ever to see and manage all of the devices connected to your Yahoo account. Today, you might notice some new improvements to help you keep track of the account activity and devices associated with your Yahoo account. This information is available to all users under “Account Info” here: https://login.yahoo.com/account/activity. Before we get too technical, let’s explain how this works in a real-world scenario.

Imagine that your phone falls out of your pocket in a taxi and later that day you realize that you’ve lost it. From a computer, tablet or alternate device, just sign in to your Yahoo account and head over to “Account Info.” There you’ll find a tab that says “Recent Activity.” Find the apps on your phone that are shown to have access to your account and remove them. This will invalidate the OAuth token so that no one else can use those apps to access your account on your lost phone. The same can be done for any other devices you might own that are authorized to use your Yahoo account, including a laptop, desktop computer, tablet or cell phone.

Users already had the ability to invalidate OAuth tokens through the Member Center, but this feature makes it easier to see and control which devices and apps are validated to access their Yahoo account, offering greater convenience and peace of mind.

Introducing the new Yahoo Advertising

Today we are announcing a unified approach to digital advertising that only Yahoo can deliver – across premium and audience-focused display, native and search advertising.

The online advertising world today is fragmented, difficult to navigate, and not always customer-friendly. For advertisers to get the reach, targeting, and ad effectiveness they want, they have to work with multiple publishers, ad networks and exchanges, demand-side platforms, and analytics vendors, among others. And still, advertisers are left with limited ability to measure and optimize the performance of their campaigns.

We think there is a better way. The new Yahoo Advertising includes a comprehensive suite of web, mobile, and video ad products across native, audience, and premium display, which are accessible through a new buying platform. These products are supported by Yahoo’s data and analytical tools, with insights into the daily digital habits of more than 800 million people worldwide.

What’s New:

  • Tumblr Sponsored Posts now powered by Yahoo Advertising
  • Yahoo Audience Ads – a better way to buy ads targeted to specific audiences
  • Yahoo Ad Manager and Ad Manager Plus – a new buying platform that gives advertisers direct, hands-on access to Yahoo’s advertising products
  • Yahoo Ad Exchange – a new global ad marketplace that provides premium publishers with more visibility and control over advertising on their sites.

Native Advertising

Yahoo Stream Ads and Yahoo Image Ads offer native ads that are organic and as engaging as the stories around them. Today, we are excited to announce that Tumblr Sponsored Posts are now powered by Yahoo Advertising. The ads are a more natural, seamless part of the reader’s experience, leading to higher impact for advertisers.

Display Advertising

We’re introducing the new Yahoo Audience Ads, a better way to buy ads targeted to specific audiences. Yahoo Audience Ads deliver the right messages to the right users across Yahoo and other high-quality sites with the scale and targeting precision of real-time programmatic buying. Expanding the services previously available as Genome, Yahoo Audience Ads offer optimized, data-driven ad buying with enhanced analytics. Advertisers have access to a comprehensive set of audience data, combining Yahoo data with advertiser data and third-party data, all usable on an extended pool of high-quality inventory.

Yahoo Audience Ads complement our existing premium display offering, Yahoo Premium Ads. Yahoo Premium Ads offer the largest digital advertising canvas for brand and performance advertisers on the web. Run a brand campaign on the Yahoo homepage, sponsor March Madness on Yahoo Sports, or run premium video ads on Yahoo Screen. Yahoo Premium Ads ensure the right audiences are reached on brand-safe and contextually relevant sites.

A Simplified Platform

These new native and display ads are now available to large and small advertisers through a new simplified platform, Yahoo Ad Manager. Yahoo Ad Manager gives advertisers direct, hands-on access to Yahoo’s advertising products. Yahoo Stream Ads, Yahoo Image Ads and Tumblr Sponsored Posts powered by Yahoo Advertising are available today through a simple user interface that helps advertisers get ads online in a matter of minutes, with insights and analytics built in.

Yahoo Ad Manager Plus is an extension of Yahoo Ad Manager for larger advertisers to plan, execute and optimize complex display ad campaigns directly, giving them greater control over the performance of their ads on Yahoo and third-party programmatic inventory. Many features of Yahoo Audience Ads and Premium Ads can be accessed through Yahoo Ad Manager Plus, available later in Q1. Yahoo offers managed services through Yahoo Audience Ads and Yahoo Premium Ads for advertisers who want custom audience definition, richer campaign measurement and insights, access to exclusive inventory, varied pricing options, and full-service optimization.

Yahoo Ad Exchange is a new global ad marketplace launching in Q1 that provides premium publishers with more visibility and control over advertising on their sites. Continuing the evolution of programmatic advertising, the Yahoo Ad Exchange upgrades the powerful services that our partners know from Right Media with a higher-quality marketplace and an enhanced platform featuring payment clearing, advanced inventory and demand controls, and flexible private marketplaces.

The Importance of Insights

These new Yahoo Advertising products offer brands and advertisers the most comprehensive ways in the market to accurately target campaigns, utilize data and insights from Yahoo, advertisers, and third parties. Because Yahoo is at the center of people’s daily habits across search, communications, media, and video, we can offer uniquely powerful insights on consumer behavior.

We are committed to driving innovation in ad technology across the industry. Yahoo Advertising is our investment in building better advertising tools to create engaging experiences that users enjoy and advertisers embrace.

Introducing the New Yahoo Mail App, Multiple Mailbox Management and Password-free Sign-in

This month marks Yahoo Mail’s 18th birthday and we’re celebrating the occasion by giving you a brand new Yahoo Mail app that’s fast, intuitive and beautiful. The new app is fully redesigned. It’s more powerful, yet simple to use. And, of course, we’ve made a significant investment in the technology that powers the app, so it’s fast and responsive.

In addition to overhauling the app, we have two other major updates. First, the Yahoo Mail app (and our browser interface) can manage email accounts from Outlook.com, Hotmail and AOL Mail. Second, the new Yahoo Mail app is the first from Yahoo to feature our password-free sign-in experience called Yahoo Account Key, taking user convenience and security to the next level.

The new Yahoo Mail app is available in the Apple App Store to all global users now, and rolling out to Android users in Google Play starting today.

Let’s dive into the details:

The New Yahoo Mail App

Fast

Speed is very important to our users, so we’ve dedicated a lot of time enhancing the performance of the entire app. From the moment you open Yahoo Mail, the app is snappy, actions are responsive and transitions are smooth and quick.

Beautiful

Right from the start, you will notice the new app is clean, intuitive and beautiful. Here are some examples of the key design elements:

  • Photos: Yahoo Mail is the only major mail service that can connect to Twitter, Linkedin and Facebook, so you’ll see great photos from senders more often.
  • Avatars: No ugly avatars. In most apps, if they can’t get a photo, they will insert a gray contact icon or maybe a colorful letter. But the contrast of photos and default avatars looked ugly to us, so we partnered with Flickr to show the sender’s initials from a photo curated from our library of gorgeous Flickr images.
  • Contact cards: No email app knows the people in your inbox better than the new Yahoo Mail app. Tap anyone in an email to see any contact information they’ve shared with you - name, company, title, email history, even recent tweets. Yahoo Mail maintains it all for you, automatically, even when someone’s not in your address book.
  • Swipe to triage: Swiping right on a message marks it read or unread. Swiping left deletes the message.
  • Long press to select more than one message: Want to move or delete a lot of messages at once? Simply tap and hold on a message and you are in multi-select mode. Don’t worry if you make a mistake, you can easily undo the recent action.
  • Get your news in Yahoo Mail: Need a break from your inbox? Check the top stories on Yahoo with a tap on the Yahoo news icon in the top right corner.

Smart

Forget scrolling and foldering, Yahoo Mail’s new search lets you find a message, photo or attachment with just a few taps.

  • Most people search for things by the sender (either person or company), so we’ve made that the fastest and easiest way to search. Give us a couple of letters of a person’s name, and we’ll suggest the most likely contact. Your results automatically organize into messages, photos and attachments you’ve exchanged. Or maybe it’s something you sent, just toggle the results to show messages you’ve sent to that person.
  • Of course, sometimes you want to search by keyword, and the app will make smart suggestions; results are more relevant and we search across messages, photos and attachments.

Compose Better Email

We’ve made it even easier to create and send beautiful, effective emails.

  • Attach photos or videos from your phone easily by clicking on the “+” icon on your new message. Photos and videos appear right in your email, scaled automatically. Prefer to attach rather than show the photos in the message, just tap the “…” on the photo to convert it to a regular attachment.
  • A lot of people send emails to themselves with reminders and notes throughout the day (we call these “me” mails). To quickly send yourself an email, just long-press the compose button.

Beyond Your Yahoo Mail Account

Most people have more than one email account. Now you can enjoy all the power of the new Yahoo Mail app (and our desktop interface) with your other mailboxes including Outlook.com, Hotmail, AOL Mail and, of course, Yahoo.

For each connected mailbox, you now have access to Yahoo Mail’s features – powerful search, smart contacts and auto-suggest, rich compose – across all your emails. The ability to manage multiple mailboxes is rolling out globally today in the Yahoo Mail app. The desktop experience is available for U.S. English users today and will be coming soon to users outside of the U.S. You can find more details on this announcement here.

Yahoo Account Key

No matter where you are on the internet, passwords are a pain. We’re happy to announce a big step forward to a password-free future with Yahoo Account Key. Account Key uses push notifications to provide a fast and secure way for you to access your Yahoo accounts from your smartphone. It frees you from memorizing complicated passwords, making signing-in to your Yahoo Mail app easy as tapping a button. You can learn more about the Yahoo Account Key here. Get started today!

We’re delighted to bring you the newest version of Yahoo Mail, and hope you find that it delivers a powerful email experience in a simple, intuitive design that’s faster than ever before. We’d love to hear what you think, so please send us your feedback!

Yahoo Account Key – Signing in Has Never Been Easier

By Dylan Casey, VP of Product Management

Earlier this year, we launched on-demand passwords so you can sign into your Yahoo account using an SMS code, instead of memorizing a complicated password. It was the first step toward a password-free future.

Today, we’re excited to take user convenience a step further by introducing Yahoo Account Key, which uses push notifications to provide a quick and simple way for you to access a Yahoo account using your mobile device.

Passwords are usually simple to hack and easy to forget. Account Key streamlines the sign-in process with a secure, elegant and easy-to-use interface that makes access as easy as tapping a button. It’s also more secure than a traditional password because once you activate Account Key – even if someone gets access to your account info – they can’t sign in.

Account Key is now available globally for the new Yahoo Mail app and will be rolling out to other Yahoo apps this year. We’re thrilled about this next step towards a password-free future!

Important Security Update for Yahoo Mail Users

Security attacks are unfortunately becoming a more regular occurrence. Recently, we identified a coordinated effort to gain unauthorized access to Yahoo Mail accounts. Upon discovery, we took immediate action to protect our users, prompting them to reset passwords on impacted accounts.

Based on our current findings, the list of usernames and passwords that were used to execute the attack was likely collected from a third-party database compromise. We have no evidence that they were obtained directly from Yahoo’s systems. Our ongoing investigation shows that malicious computer software used the list of usernames and passwords to access Yahoo Mail accounts. The information sought in the attack seems to be names and email addresses from the affected accounts’ most recent sent emails.

What we’re doing to protect our users

  • We are resetting passwords on impacted accounts and we are using second sign-in verification to allow users to re-secure their accounts. Impacted users will be prompted (if not, already) to change their password and may receive an email notification or an SMS text if they have added a mobile number to their account.

  • We are working with federal law enforcement to find and prosecute the perpetrators responsible for this attack.

  • We have implemented additional measures to block attacks against Yahoo’s systems.

What you can do to help keep your accounts secure

In addition to adopting better password practices by changing your password regularly and using different variations of symbols and characters, users should never use the same password on multiple sites or services.  Using the same password on multiple sites or services makes users particularly vulnerable to these types of attacks.

We regret this has happened and want to assure our users that we take the security of their data very seriously.

BrightRoll and Yahoo Are Changing the Game in Programmatic Video Advertising

By Tod Sacerdoti, CEO andfounder of BrightRoll

The recent acquisition of BrightRoll has dramatically strengthened Yahoo’s video advertising stack. As BrightRoll closes in on its first 100 days as part of the Yahoo family this month, we’re excited to share a major milestone.

Today we announced the availability of Yahoo Audience Ads data on the BrightRoll Demand Side Platform (DSP). Advertisers and agencies running programmatic video campaigns with BrightRoll can now access exclusive Yahoo audience data to target consumers across all addressable video supply, on and off Yahoo owned and operated (O&O) sites. This is unique to the industry, as no other company of Yahoo’s scale makes their data available for audience targeting outside their walled garden of O&O properties.

Check out the press release for more information on this announcement.

anonymous asked:

Can you please point on reasons why you think that their contract with MM will end soon and they'll come out in this year? Some blogs say that we are pretty optimistic and we all need to be realistic. I'm all in Team Positive anyway.

Why do I think they come out this year? Rather sooner than later this year?

  • Timing of MEDIA acting reckless from Nov 1st
  • Timing of Harry’s sexuality comments/quotes
  • Timing of Louis sexuality comments/quotes
  • Timing of putting Harry and Louis together after 83 years
  • TIming of how we went from SAME FRAME to MILD TOUCHING and NEXT TO YOU ON BLACK CARPET
  • Plus MEDIA contributing to anything Larry.
  • Which means they are WILLING TO RISK ACCESS TO THE BIGGEST BOYBAND IN THE WORLD. AKA ARE THEY STUPID??? STUPID ENOUGH TO CONSTANTLY TALK ABOUT SOMETHING MODEST CLEARLY BLACKLISTED? No, I don’t believe Modest is on board in any way, that’s why Bullshit 2.0 happened. So, no, it’s not Modest. It’s some other force pushing the media to keep Larry in the picture.
  • It’s a minor contributor to my opinion but Harry’s insta.
  • the fact that ¾ of this was meant for OUTSIDERS. THings were reported heavily. WHY?
  • The mild level (if we can call that) of bearding, and lack of a romantic stunt which means touching, handholding, kissing, etc (walking or sitting w 15 other people is not the same, ok? That’s why I said romantic stunt.)Plus that everyone knows so just let’s pull the bandaid off
  • timing of families, team, crew members acting pretty reckless as well as stopping any kind of public interaction w Eleanor since WWA New Jersey.
  • timing of industry people started acting reckless.
  • that the larries have never been this many in the fandom. There is an obvious support coming from the fandom, a support that increases with every day.
  • all the sad helpless trapped lyrics evolved to being ready and we’ll gonna be fine.

If nothing happens that I have a lot of questions.

For the contract question if you don’t mind, I’m just going to reuse my previous contact speculation post. At the moment the following speculation is going on w their contracts…

Modest has left:

  • Can we even confirm this? The boys look genuinely happy, the same happy as they did in Q4 2014. Harry had a lot of MIA times in LA, hanging out w Azoff and co. Zayn is more and more open about Nasty (EDIT: I mistyped sorry: Naughty) boy, like.. I haven’t followed it much, but literally there is somethinig now every day… Also Zayn is more present on twitter, embracing fanart and artists. Great!

  • even if they are signed by a new management, NDA’s exist and there is not a need for a formal announcement
  • They took the bearding card when Louis did a pretend arrival at LAX. To be honest I’m quite sure that he is contractually obligated to do that. No way in hell he does it for fun. Louis’ twitter account is still “interesting”.

Modest stays but only manages the tour: (transition time now)

  • How would that look? 1D managed by Azoff as clients, but Modest would be responsible for the tour. Given the half-assed too late announcement of the opening act or anything OTRA at the moment I can see Modest in it.

Modest stays until mid tour - April 2015

  • This is where it gets the most intriguing: if you remember back to WWA tour the boys were happy to get 2 weeks off to be able to adjust to time zones. Now right after the APAC leg they have a 2 months break. Does that 2 months break sound Modest to you? It is either a new management that finally takes care of their physical and mental health and/or a plan to pull something…

  • The 2 months break starts 2 months into OTRA, a bit early. Tour starts on 7th Feb and the APAC leg is on til April 4h. Next concert is on June 5th. OTRA consists of 80 shows. They have the 2 months break after 23 shows. 23 shows out ot 80. A bit more than ¼ of their shows. That’s so strange.

  • Interesting though is that APAC countries are the one which are considered homophobic.

  • remember the proky pies interview? They had that in 2012 Oct. The interviewer mentioned to them that he heard they have signed an 18 months - 24 months extension. The 18 months extension expires in 2015 April. in the interview they mentioned Management, not record label. Management.

Modest stays till the end of OTRA: Oct 31st.

  • October 2015 would align perfectly with the 24 months extension in the porky pies interview.

Modest stays until the end of 2015

Worst case scenario is that it all ends in:

yo but people send drugs in the mail all the time, it's a thing people do. That was like, the biggest part of the Silk Road.

yeah

it was a really big part of silk road because silk road was a dark net black market for all sorts of illegal shit to be bought, sold, n traded over the internet & then mailed

tumblr is a site owned by fucking yahoo and accessible to anyone who is capable of typing “tumblr dot com” in the url of any old internet browser, run by a bunch of technologically impaired pissholes who couldnt keep a site secure from a pubescent teenager if they tried, much less the federal government

so if u see someone offering to sell hardcore street drugs or weapons over this blue fucksite, it’s probably not legit

anonymous asked:

what happened with yahoo uk?

Ok I’m being asked this a lot and I’m on mobile and can’t link anything. The best resource I can recommend is Gabi’s blog @tellmethisisnotlove. I believe she has a Yahoo tag.

In short, back in November around the time of “not that important” Yahoo UK went “rogue” and it was very similar to what’s happening today with the daily mail. Many of us (myself included) were intrigued because this was a blacklisted topic for a long time and it seemed as if “something” had been lifted or changed for Yahoo to be so reckless. The funny thing is they had just gotten the first OT5 interview in 84 years and a lot of people were like “ohno. No more access for yahoo after this for sure”.

And then in one of the greatest twists yet, yahoo got another interview. And basically confirmed (for me at least) that they had been granted a green light to go pro-Larry. Bc up until then it was most definitely a NO.

I hope that helps. Sorry I can’t link!!!

anonymous asked:

Do you think the media is getting so reckless because MM is letting them? I feel like in the past they would have put out any inkling of a flame with these kinds of articles/headlines and/or reacted strongly to them (ie not letting l & h sit near each other, restricting interaction, bullshit tweets). Do you think they've let some of the media know they're seeding and working up to an eventual coming out but slowly easing the public into it? I just feel like they would shut most of this down.

Considering they pulled a hissy fit when Louis walked out in his rainbow apple logo and disrespected a reputable media outlet in the process, no I don’t think MM is condoning any of this. They’re not on board with seeding or a coming out. For the past two years they haven’t even been on board with maintaining a civil public friendship between the two of them. If anything I think it’s very likely that they’ve lost some power over the media though for whatever reason, otherwise they would’ve definitely shut this chatter up as soon as it started just like they did back in 2012.

But it’s been going steady for two months now. The fact that Yahoo UK still has access to the band despite all the heavy pro h/l articles is a little shocking. There’s a quite a bit more speculation flying around now about Harry’s sexuality and linking him to Louis. And Harry and Louis are finally able to act like they’re in the same band again which is something I wouldn’t have even expected 6 months ago and I really hope it continues. Slowly easing the public back into the two of them acknowledging each other’s existence is a good start. I highly doubt MM is behind these changes but someone else most likely is: Sony? Azoff? Unknown Person X? So if that’s the case is the media being fed specific information to put out there? Or is it just that they’re finally being allowed to publish this content without consequence? I wonder if they know something big is on the horizon of if they can just sense it. But the fact that there are articles about Harry and Louis at all is pretty telling and positive I think.
