The Sum of A Year: xorzyzt's 2014 favorites

After an embittering barrage of ever-multiplying year-end lists, UnReaL is here to provide you with the definitive last word, finally. 2014 was an excellent year of music. The almost tantric release of some long hyped young artists yielded mixed results, but simultaneously long gestating talent took leaps forward. While it seemed mainly dominated by heavy-hitting EPs and singles more than albums, perhaps that’s also a symptom of my listening habits being mainly geared towards the search for dance floor weapons these days, but surely not mine alone. Online music journalism demands an artist and label to create reasons to continuously be featured and rise above the constant flow of new names and stylistic mutations – and once you’re in, you’re in, but forging the way there is no easy feat. This became ever more clear to us this year with launch of our UnReaL Audio and Portals Editions labels in Autumn with releases from Born in Flamez and Shaddah Tuum, after gestating for most of the year. What is clear is that there is no formula, but fitting into a paradigm never hurts. As bridgers of said paradigms, UnReaL faithfully give you our top picks across the spectrum of the music underworld, starting with my xorzyzt list.

UnReaL presents 3 TEETH + Blush Response

image

Grinding riffs, obliterating beats, and pure vocal carnage.
LA foursome 3 Teeth are the modern synthesis of the industrial dance floor evil pioneered by the likes of Skinny Puppy and Ministry. Their highly-acclaimed album is sick as hell, and their ferocious live shows are already becoming legendary. Don’t miss their first Berlin appearance!

Blush Response’s analogue electronics range from the full-on pounding of industrial rock and dark techno to icy-cold EBM and minimal. We’ve never seen him play without a host of black-clad bodies raging in front—a host of which you’ll soon be a part of.

In between and after, UnReaL DJs BlackBlackGold and xorzyzt will be playing blackened post-punk, techno, and generally heavy electronics including lots of rare and unreleased weirdness to keep your bodies jacked. Grab your Docs and prepare for a night of fog-drenched raging!
