Can someone talk to me about xena? Like seriously. I need someone to talk with about my beautiful fictional bisexuals and their love that transcends the universes and death? And the fact that Gabrielle is a little ray of hope and that Xena would rather lose her brother all over again rather than let Gabrielle, well, not be a sunshine? Can someone just… please?
I am fully aware that Xena: Warrior Princess ended in 2001 and that it is midnight, but that does not mean that I don’t have a lot of feelings.
I’ve noticed that there is a lot of speculation about whether or not Xena and Gabrielle are “lovers” and that really annoys me.
This really bothers me because if it were a straight situation there would be no question about it! These two characters were described as soulmates!! Sleeping next to each other and waking up with hickies! They flew off into the sunset together after Gabrielle read a poem that Xena commissioned from actual Sappho! In the series finale Xena says, “Gabrielle, if I only had 30 seconds to live, this is how I’d want to live them, looking into your eyes.” I could very easily go on!
Straight couples on television so much as look at each other and it’s canon but the relationship of Xena and Gabrielle is “deliberately ambiguous”
My mom, a certified lesbian, brought up her experience to say that it might’ve been to help closeted lesbians “ease into” things, but I think that gives the writers too much credit.
Because of the ambiguity, straight fans have something to use to dismiss the ideas and feelings of lgbt+ fans
Lucy Lawless confirmed it as “definitely gay” in an interview. But that was in 2003, two years after Xena was cancelled!! I love Lucy Lawless, and I’m so so glad she did that, but I think the Writers should have!
Xena and Gabrielle love each other and are “definitely gay” and I wish it didn’t have to be a question
Animation isn’t really my strong suit, but I’ve been thinking about something like this for quite a while. Style taken mostly from Disney’s Hercules ((what else would be more appropriate)) with some elements from the wonderful horror that is Hercules and Xena – The Animated Movie: The Battle for Mount Olympus
I’ll probably draw Gabrielle like this at some point soon maybe ((EDIT: Here it is!))
