The British Bulldog, Stu Hart, and WWF Champion Bret Hart
[December 1995]

A great candid snapped during the build-up toward WWF In Your House 5: Seasons Beatings, where Bret “Hit Man” Hart defended the WWF Championship against the number one contender, The British Bulldog. The two entities had met at SummerSlam 1992, where it’s said that they had one of the best bouts in SS history. At In Your House, the two attempted to recreate the magic, this time with the WWF Championship on the line. The match was just as good as their SummerSlam encounter, if not better, as both men were more seasoned with three more years added onto their tenure. It’s definitely worth checking out as one of the best matches of 1995. The relevance of Stu Hart being pictured with the two is that both Bret and the Bulldog were trainees in the legendary Hart Dungeon.

Rest in peace, Nicole Bass
[1964 - 2017]

Former ECW and WWF superstar Nicole Bass has sadly passed away. She was 52.

Fans of The Attitude Era will recall the monstrous presence of Nicole Bass making her debut in March of 1999. Bass was WWF Women’s Champion Sable’s bodyguard at WrestleMania 15, and was briefly involved in a feud against Debra. Bass also had a short-lived but hysterical run with Val Venis, in which she was Val’s female counterpart. That is, until she whacked him with Jeff Jarrett’s guitar after losing a bikini contest to Debra.

Bass and Ivory began teaming for a short time before Bass left the WWF. Prior to her run in the WWF, Nicole was a member of the ECW roster, hanging primarily with Justin Credible, Chastity, and Jason.

Nicole’s girlfriend posted the following on her Facebook page:

Dignity and Respect.
2 things every person on this planet deserves.
2 things very important to Nicole Bass.
The past few days I, Kristen Marrone, have been posting to my girlfriends pages to try and keep her very personal life private. Rumors have been spreading around the internet about her health. A few days ago we didn’t know all of what was going on so I have been trying to keep it quiet until we had answers. Nicole values her privacy and I Respect that. Before anyone tries to take the story and twist it up and make it ugly I want to put it out there in a Respectful way.
A few days ago Nicole got very sick. She was brought into the hospital and they did everything they could to help her. I have been sitting here with her in the room 24/7 since she got here making sure she was being given the best possible care. Today we learned that there is nothing else that can be done.
Nicole was an amazing woman. Strong not only on the outside but inside as well. Beautiful soul and kind heart. Many people knew Nicole but few ever got close enough to know the REAL woman that she was. I got to be one of the lucky few. Not only was she my soul mate and my girlfriend but she was my best friend, my teacher and my business partner. I learned many valuable things from her and created many beautiful memories in the time we had together.
I would like to keep her page open for her loving fans and friends to share their photos and memories.
I just ask that you treat Nicole with the dignity and respect that she deserves.
Thank you to everyone that has been reaching out to and helping me through this very difficult time.
Nicole, I love you. I will always love you.
I will always be yours and you will always be <3 mine

Rest in peace, Nicole.

The truest tragedy of Luna Vachon

I get asked the question every once in a while, “Who are your favorite wrestlers of all-time?” When listing female wrestlers, by some terrible error, I always forget to mention one of the greatest grapplers and characters of all-time, and someone I truly loved and respected: the great Luna Vachon.

As a child, I was terrified of Luna. She had a presence and an aura about her that made her so unappealing to my tiny brain, and even today, I look back at her and wonder how anyone could be so dedicated to being truly vile. I have friends who knew her well, who said that outside the ring, she couldn’t have been a sweeter person. I find that very easy to believe. Unfortunately, despite Luna’s dedication to wrestling and her truly kind demeanor, Luna was laid to rest with several unfortunate demons.

In a shoot interview before her death, Luna claimed that all she wanted was to be the WWF Women’s Champion. It nearly happened, in 1995, as Madusa recently revealed that she had gone to bat for Luna to Vince McMahon himself and said that Luna deserved a run as the champion. McMahon denied the pitch, and Madusa went to Luna as the WWF Women’s Champion with an idea that she would stay down for a 3-count, forcing Luna to become the new champion. While Luna was moved to tears, she was never one to go into business for herself, and talked Madusa out of it. Years later, when Luna was feuding with Sable, the WWF Women’s Championship would resurface, and the plan from the get-go was to make Sable the champion. While this would undoubtedly be great for Sable’s many fans, it bothered Luna strongly, because all she ever wanted to be was a wrestler- THE wrestler. A champion wrestler, but sadly, Luna had to sit on the sidelines while Sable, and later Debra, carried the title.

Luna’s post-WWF career was anything but glorious, as she went through a very rough patch for several years. Luna’s former husband, Gangrel, divorced her in 2006, but the two remained close and Gangrel still recalls Luna with true fondness. In 2009, her house caught fire and destroyed every piece of wrestling memorabilia that Luna had collected through the years. Imagine what her closet and storage boxes must have held. In 2010, Luna was found dead by her mother, surrounded by crushed pills. She had died of a drug overdose. Luna recalled her career as being successful, having gotten the chance to meet children through the Make-A-Wish foundation and to help inspire wrestlers of the future. One of the wrestlers who Luna monitored closely was SmackDown Live superstar Natalya. While absolutely loved and respected by both fans and peers alike, Luna perhaps never knew the influence she had, and to this day, is not yet in the WWE Hall Of Fame.

The first thing I want to be done is to get that piece of crap out of my ring. Don’t just get him out of the ring, get him out of the WWF, because I proved, son, without a shadow of a doubt, that you ain’t got what it takes anymore! You sit there, and you thump your Bible, and you say your prayers, and it didn’t get you anywhere. Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16 - AUSTIN 3:16 SAYS I JUST WHIPPED YOUR ASS! All he’s gotta do is go buy him a cheap bottle of Thunderbird and try to get back some of that courage he had in his prime. As the King of the Ring, I’m servin’ notice to every one of the ‘WWF superstars.’ I don’t give a damn what they are, they’re all on the list, and that’s Stone Cold’s list, and I’m fixin’ to start runnin’ through all of them. As far as this championship match is considered, son, I don’t give a damn if it’s Davey Boy Smith or Shawn Michaels. Steve Austin’s time has come, and when I get the shot, you’re lookin’ at the next WWF Champion, and that’s the bottom line because Stone Cold said so!

“Rowdy” Roddy Piper
[April 7th, 1986]

The WWE just posted this never before seen photo of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper from WrestleMania 2, where Piper squared off against Mr. T in a boxing match. The two had a storied history, dating back to prior to WrestleMania, where Piper teamed with “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff to take on Mr. T and the WWF Champion Hulk Hogan. Although the bout was supposed be a standard boxing match, old habits die hard, as Piper threw a stool at the legs of Mr. T and bodyslammed him, leading to a disqualification.

Considering how badly Illyana freaks the fuck out any time someone goes into her bedroom without knocking, you’d think she’d have a modicum of respect for other people’s personal space. But does she??? Neeeeeewp. Look at how she yanks X-Men matriarch Moira Mactaggert out of the shower and teleports her to Limbo in her birthday suit.

Oh that is such a load of malarkey Illyana!! Black magic doesn’t mean you can only conjure up goth clothes! You just like dressing people like that! Moira looks like she’s a member of former WWF tag team champions Demolition. Remember Demolition?? (New Mutants #46 – Dec 1986)
