Who has an example of an evil protagonist?

Sometimes people say that a protagonist has to be “likable”, but I’d argue that they can be despicable, so long as you’re “rooting for” them.

Who are some awful protagonists from literature (ie not Walter White) you can think of? So far I’ve just got Faustus and Satan in Paradise Lost (oh Brit Lit 1).

Question!

I am just full of them lately but I promise it’s so that you guys can help me make decisions about EXCITING STUFF!

Say you were doing a month-long challenge where you had to write a short amount (say, 500 words) per day based on a prompt. The goal would just be to write, not necessarily to edit (think NaNo).

Which do you think would be more motivational: Knowing all of the month’s prompts at the beginning of the month, or not seeing them until the day of?

OKAI I HAVE SOME HARRY POTTER FACT QUESTIONS

EDIT: THIS WASN’T SOME SORT OF CONTEST, I JUST NEEDED THE ANSWERS FOR SOMETHING I’M WORKING ON. I’VE GOT THEM NOW, THANKS EVERYONE!

Soon the reason for all the random questions lately will be apparent but until then here is another mysterious inquiry:

  • Is a reason ever given for why his name is Harry? I just know his middle name is cause of his dad obv.
  • Triple checking but I’m pretty sure his DOB is July 31 1980 yes?
  • Does the first book start on his 11th birthday (besides when he’s a baby)? Ie is he even 10 years old during the action of the book?
  • He was born in Godric’s Hollow yes? And besides there he’s lived at Privet Drive, The Burrow, Hogwarts, and that’s it right? Well and the magical purse tent in Book 7.
  • It can be argued that any time he’s with Ron and Hermione is his happiest moment right? Cause that’s what he thinks of when he does his Patronus?
  • Alright here’s some serious math… how old is Harry when his first son, James, is born?
Can anyone think of an example from Harry Potter...

…when Harry makes a decision specifically because of his past (ie, up until Sorcerer’s Stone begins)? Like something he does because he was an orphan, or because the Dursleys raised him so cruelly.

The only things that come to my mind are when he breaks the Elder Wand, but I don’t remember what his specific reasoning for doing that is, and when his parents are in the Mirror of Erised, but that doesn’t work for what I’m trying to do because he isn’t making a decision, he’s just passively seeing them.

And if you can think of one and have a copy of the book on hand, would you be able to send me the passage that references his decision-making thought process?

I can’t tell you all why I need this quote, but I will tell the secret to whoever sends me the quote ;) Send the quote to yeahwriters.tumblr.com/submit

Can y'all think of anything?
