A work trip to Phoenix in January is a bonus for those living in Vancouver. Although there wasn’t much time to explore, I managed to find a few good spots while there as recommended by my wonderful Air BnB hosts Erin and Ari.

Angels Trumpet Ale House was within stumbling distance of my guest house and offers 31 taps that can be enjoyed indoors or on their spacious outdoor patio while watching or playing a game of cornhole. The highlight was Wren House Wrenovation unfiltered IPA - the kind of bursting citrus and floral IPA that depletes your mouth of moisture and leaves you wanting more and did with crowlers to go. A baking tray sampler offered tastes of Ska Modus Hoperandi IPA, Deschutes Nitro Red Chair NW Pale Ale, Boulevard The Calling IIPA, Mission Dark Seas Imperial Stout, Rubicon Hop Sauce IIPA, Imperial Coffee Stout, Epic Escape to Colorado IPA and Unita Ready Set Gose. A cozy ale house with pretty good food too.

Nightcaps were had at The Main Ingredient Ale House and Café after street tacos at La Santisima Gournet Taco Shop. The regional Flagstaff Mother Road Tower Station unfiltered IPA was citrus and tropical and the Green Flash Tangerine Soul Style IPA with tangerine zest was refreshing but a bit zesty.

While shopping at Flowers Craft Beer and Wine Bottle Shop and Taproom I got my hands on a Stone and Sierra Nevada NXS IPA - a crazy collaboration of IPA aged in gin-infused bourbon barrels and rye whiskey barrels and blended with dry-hopped IPA. Highly drinkable, piney, citrus with a fresh bitter and boozy finish.

I enjoyed this tiny taste of Phoenix but will need a second visit to drink up all there is to offer.
