would be so much better in colors :((

you know, when Marvel did that shitty plotline about Cap being a Hydra agent (aka a Nazi) I wasn’t pleased, but I saw a ton of activity on my dash about it. People were angry. I think it was trending on Twitter.

personally, as a Jewish girl, I was a lot more hurt when the MCU had Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, two Jewish and Rroma children of Holocaust survivors, whitewashed and volunteer to join Hydra. And when that happened, I never saw a single post about it. No one cared, even though the thing with Cap was a gimmick, and the thing with the twins was outright ignorant anti-Semitism.

I understand that Steve Rogers is everyone’s favorite white guy. I understand. but if you care more about that than the Romanoffs, then I’m not sure you understand much of anything.

I see that the same writer who did Captain America is a Nazi has written Magneto is a Hydra Nazi too. and I see exactly one person on my dash posting about it.

now, maybe it’s my own fault for following the wrong blogs. maybe I expected too much of people, to care about things like this, things that affect Jews.

when I made a post about the Cap thing a few months back, I was yelled at by a Holocaust denier and whined at by a white German who was “tired of being blamed” for history, as though history is not our responsibility, as though history is not always right beside us.

so here is my post about the Magneto-Nazi-Hydra thing: the political climate has been harshly anti-Semitic lately. it’s been anti- a lot of things obviously. but my people’s cemeteries are being destroyed, my people’s places of worship and community are being threatened, I have seen more swastikas this year than I have in the past five, and Marvel just put their single most iconic Jewish character in line with their fictional Nazi order. and one fucking person on my dash is talking about that.

I expected better. I don’t know why I expected better. no one in this modern world seems to know how to treat Jews. are we people of color? are we a minority? are we white? are we all Zionists? what are we and where do we fit?

you don’t need to have all the answers. I know I don’t. it would just be nice to know that someone gives a shit, now of all times, about how my people get represented and treated in the media. there’s been so much anti-Semitism in the news lately, maybe you don’t know what to say. to say about the real news or this Marvel plotline or any of it.

so you know. if you even care at all about something that harms my community much more than everyone’s favorite white guy getting a stupid plotline, could you say something? anything? don’t just “like” a post, it’s useless. if you don’t know what to say, reblog this, reblog something else, I don’t care how you do it, just say something. anything.

please. please say something. we can’t drown out their voices on our own.

anonymous asked:

Do you have any kind of process for picking colors for the backgrounds? They all seem to have really nice uniformity, and I would love to read up on how colors like that are picked (or if it's more intuition based). I do remember you mentioning that you also had help from another color lead before, so I was wondering how much of that they help out vs the colors you chose?

hey, thanks so much! this might get a lil long (as it always does!!) so bear with me.

firstly i want to say, there’s no right or wrong way to pick colors. every artist has their own palette they prefer and i think it’s super delightful to spend time developing your own special sense of color. so even though i’m explaining things in a “this is how you do it” sort of way, it’s not the only way! just my way. the best method to develop your own sense of color is to look at a LOT of art, look at a LOT of the world around you, and practice practice pratice.

at this point in my life i pick colors intuitively just because i think it’s something i’m naturally tuned into, and i’ve been doing it for a few years, so i don’t actively plan my palettes. but here are some things that i think about as i pick colors.

firstly, i want to go over hue, value, and saturation. i’m sure everyone knows these intuitively but i want to explain them in words. hue, value and saturation are what make up a color, and decide how colors differ from each other.

hue: what color the color actually is. red, purple, green, yellow, and everything in between.

value: how light or dark a color is. if you’re painting traditionally, adding more white or more black to a color lowers or raises its value.

saturation: how “pure” the color is vs how much neutral tone is in it.

here’s an example of all three:

this comes into play because a big mistake i see beginners make is that they pick a “just” color, and by that i mean they pick “just blue” or “just yellow”. imagine buying a set of oil paints and only using paints straight from the tube without ever mixing. it would be impossible! so i try to avoid picking “just” colors, except as for a complementary color (more on that in a bit). here are some variations of a red, for example.

so, the biggest thing for me when i pick colors is that i want them all to be friends. i want them all to have something in common so that they get along. i usually lose control of a painting when my colors feel to different from one another. so, i will usually start a painting with one color i know for sure i want, and “subordinate” other colors to it, meaning every other color i pick has to look good with that color. as to how you figure out what looks good and what doesn’t, that just takes time and lots of observation to build a personal opinion :) here’s an example from one of my paintings. in this case, the main color is the trees.

and here’s another from rick & morty, the main color is the sky this time.

now that that’s out of the way, i’m going to give you the Actual Cheat Sheet for color palettes. in color theory, there are 8 basic color schemes that are generally pleasing to look at. here they are.

i usually use an analogous palette or monochrome palette out of preference. the two examples above more or less fall into those categories. however, i also like to use split complementary because the complimentary color adds a LOT of contrast and visual interest. it’s great to use if you have a specific thing in a painting you want to draw attention to. here’s an example:

it doesn’t always have to be a perfect split complementary, just one color that differs from the “family” of colors that take up a majority of the piece.

now! you might be wondering when’s the right time to subordinate a color, or where to put it, or how much of it to use, etc. and the answer is: CONTRAST. there is always visual interest in things that are different. i was rifling through my school notes and found these great types of contrast when working with color.

value: things that are light vs things that are dark.

hue: two colors that look different. I.E. yellow vs blue.

saturation: things that are saturated vs things that are desaturated.

proportion: note the example above. a majority of the painting is orange, so the green stands out because there is proportionally less of it.

temperature: things that are warm vs things that are cool.

complementary: red vs green, blue vs orange, yellow vs purple. when in doubt, these colors always contrast against each other because they have nothing in common (there is no red in green, etc).

simultaneous: this is a little advanced and i’m bad at explaining it, so please read up on it here.

a super helpful exercise is to look at your favorite illustrations, paintings, photographs, designs, etc and assess which one of the 8 color schemes (linked above) it has, and which types (can be more than one) of contrast it has. we did this in school and it REALLY helped me look at color better. here’s part of the assignment i did, the artist is annette marnat.

so! that’s pretty much how i think about color and how i pick my colors! i hope it was somewhat helpful! there’s so so so so much about color theory i can’t even begin to cover, i highly urge you to watch some videos and read some books and articles to further your study. a great starting place would be this series of videos. these are made by my teacher Richard Keyes, i think he had a dvd or something. everything i’ve talked about so far i learned from him and he is an absolute expert in color. these videos are invaluable. if you take anything away from this post, let it be to watch these videos hahaha.

to answer your question about my color leads, every painting was a collaborative effort between the three of us, and sometimes other painters too. it was a very hands-on crew, so i can’t say any of the r&m bgs i did are 100% “mine”. however, i think my personal color sense is waaaay different than jason or phil’s, which made the process very interesting because we usually had 3 very different opinions hahaa. you can check out their work here and here to see what things they brought to the table in relation to my own contributions.

thank you for the ask! again, i hope this was helpful :)

why don't you like kathleen kennedy? shes the only female and she seems nice

it’s april 2017 and there are still people who dont know kk is a white demon

  • kk is an icon of white feminism.
  • when she doesn’t get involved directly, female characters’ looks get incredibly diverse (animated series or novels etc. although, we can’t say they treat women of color well.)
  • new female actresses who play lead roles, d ridley, f jones, and e clarke are all white brunette (just like her). this is my personal opinion but for me, f jones was the weakest part in rogue one because of her emontionless and soulless performance, but kk was the one who insisted on casting her and she’s very proud of it. we haven’t seen clarke’s performance in the upcoming han solo film yet but she’s already very famous for horrible eyebrow acting (even her fans admit it). tessa thompson and zoe kravitz, who also auditioned for clarke’s role, is obviously better than her.
  • (also, i think the rogue one novel was a bit better but the movie was… it focuses on the white woman, who didn’t care about the rebellion but only herself then becomes a hero. it’s not feminism when men of color are used to spotlight a white woman, especially when one of them has sacrificed everything for the rebellion from when he was a very young kid. when i heard jyn’s character was originally more like cassian i couldn’t stop groaning because THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER.)
  • ‘for some reason’ she keeps thinking white brunette women are the most ideal people to get the roles. even if she’s doing it unconsciously, it doesn’t change the fact that’s racism. she’s a racist.
  • and when you are a racist you can’t be a feminist because feminism means you support all the women.
  • she seems very passionate when she talks about rey and jyn but when it’s about other actors who are men of color she suddenly becomes silent?? and she talks about this “girl power” a lot but when it’s about races, ethnicities and diversity she doesn’t say anything? it’s always the directors who sat next to her who speak about it, or actors of color themselves. her “girl power” only involves white women and yet she said star wars represented the world.
  • she was a producer of complete disaster : avatar the last airbender movie, where almost everyone got whitewashed, which means she learned nothing from her past.
  • @kyber-sphere replied:  Actually, she isn’t even a feminist. Every time someone asks questions about “girl power” in panels she gets obviously irritated. One time, she was even dismissive towards the person who asked it too.

a becolored/belinearted version of this super lovely sketch of everyone’s favorite star-crossed sapphics by the incomparable @fadewithfury ! thank you so much for letting me play with it, dahling <3 <3 <3

There’s a huge whiteboard wall in front of my desk at work and I recently convinced my coworkers that it would be okay to fill up a section of it with fanart. They know about the blog but many of them haven’t seen much of the fanart being done so I thought it’d be great to share! I’m not sure how the IT department feels about me using up a bunch of the color ink but  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Hopefully we can get better pictures than these quick phone photos that I took after putting on the last few at the bottom today. Uh it’s obvious I had no plan going in as to where to put anything. ._.

I keep getting comments about the ratio of Tweek/Craig fanart to everything else hahaha.

“I just… I miss him.”

“I know.”

“I miss him so much.”

“… Me too.”

What if Andrew died? Nora said that Neil would be devastated for sure, but what about Renee? I feel like Neil and Renee would grow a lot closer and become better friends if something like that were to happen. Bittersweet thought.

I did this for @meabhd‘s Coloring Contest! I didn’t know who the original characters were, but I wanted to participate anyway so I made them into little foxes instead :3 Regardless, this was super duper fun! Thank you Méabh!!

I wanted to make simplified redesign of the eldarya cast (like I did just a bit in 2015) except this time I won’t stop at 3 characters but do EVERYONE. Wish me luck cause i’m a lazy person.

Nevra
I feel like this skin color suit him way better and also I’m tired of the “rule” that say vampires have to be pale so you almost never see a non-white vampires. He still wear his long ass scarf but I wanted to draw him without it this time! Also, LEG WARMERS. And he paint his nails black.

Ezarel
What bother me with Eza original design is that he’s supposed to have long hair but you just can’t tell from the front, it look like he have the same haircut as Nevra. So I changed that to give him a mom ponytail. Also gave him gloves cause I feel like he’s the type that does not like direct skin contact with others. And he even got some freckles.

Valkyon
I hate when characters wear partial armor at random places like do you wish to protect yourself OR NOT? So I put it all away. What you gonna do about this? I’m really really not happy with his skin tone, or just, the whole color work on this drawing, but mostly his skin. Maybe I should have made him darker. Still wear make up on his eyes (zoom to see)

The Haha Musume Donburi Oppai girls

Ah yes, a modern classic as far as the lewd ova scene is concerned, and for good reason! This OVA is undoubtedly on of the best softcore hentai animations to ever be made, better that 80-90% percent of any hentai ova/series out, and that’s including the good ones, without any genital penetration! It it’s pretty much what all hentai should be striving for in terms of quality, consistency, and weight in animation. It certainly helps that it
was animated with the help of the fantastical Kaneko Hiraku(kirin999) Animator of Victoria Maid Maria no Hoshi, and Hoods Entertainment, the premier animation company in the best bouncing boobs in the ecchi-hentai industry. You migth remember them from such hits as Manyuu Hikenchou
(there’s a show i need to discuss), Seikon no Qwaser and Kagaku na Yatsura. In short, this guy knows his curves, and he knows
that foreplay can sometimes be a main dish for greater.
But enough about the the more technical side, let’s get to what you fools are here for!

As the saying goes, age before beauty, let’s start with Sakie.

A mom with a lot going on, she a definitive! She definitely fits the bill, her dream-state like eyes give of a sort of gentleness, a passiveness from years of nurturing. The cool blue helps with this, as it is a calming color. Her nose is well defined and sharp, contrast with her daughter’s more moe-esque nose to pull of an increased sense of age and maturity. Her hair is the perfect for her character, being too long would give off a sort of youth that she isn’t meant to inspire, it remains short and yet elegant, framing her face very well. Her lips are emphasized as full and with a sort of lip-gloss to bring out their natural color, making them seem softer. She has a slight chub going on showing she has some age on her, she’s put on a few pounds. You might actually recognize some of her designs beats from another mom I discussed.

Not a coincidence!

Her clothes are nice, warm, pastel colors to hone in on her motherly nature which makes her seem soft and inviting, there’s a relaxing effect similar to drinking warm soup.

Compare it to her underwear, which is a dark purple and lacy, showing a more sensual side to her, more sultry, more naughty. Excellent juxtaposition of color! Pay attention to her expressions as well, notice a common theme?

She maintains a soft, almost apologetic expression at all times, like a doting mom who is doing her best. She does and let you do to her whatever is needed, even if it might be a bit much for her, just for your benefit, that the feeling you get from just looking at her. I’ll be honest, I only thought she was okay before doing this analysis, high-mid tier, but all these little details to capturing this motherly nature she’s meant to invoke definitely give me a new appreciation for her. There was a lot put into her(and a lot i want to put into her), and it’s masterfully accomplishes what she set’s out to do!

Now to move onto Imouto-san.

Rumi is quite clearly Onii-chan bait, from her girly-girl dress, pigtails, big moe eyes and small moe nose.

And she does her job well.

Her mom is just as guilty for serving a certain demographic, but it’s far more noticeable in Rumi’s design, especially when compared to her mothers, the pigtails are a dead give away. That said, that doesn’t mean it’s bad as a design, not as strong as her mother’s however.

Plus her clothes are quite clearly made for a girl much younger than herself. Sakie’s design is a more subtle while still getting the point across quite well of what she is and what she’s like. Rumi’s does so as well, but it’s a bit more on the nose, so to speak. I also don’t think blue was the best color for her first outfit, i mean it helps contrast with her mother, but her dress baby-blue dress doesn’t convey the sort of light-tsudere imouto-san she is. I would have opted for a more light red/pinkish or stuck with the yellow she would get later on instead, it could also help build a color-associative relationship, showing that mother and daughter were connect just by looking at them.

This yellow and orange underwear suits her much better, probably why she wears it for longer in the Ova. In communicates a similar warmness to her mother, but more energy and personality thanks to the dark orange marks, but underneath it, she’s really soft and innocent with the light orange bows and white flap on the panties. While her design might be lacking at times, her personality helps make her more attractive to the viewer.

There’s more eb and flow with her, being the little sister type with a dash of tsundere qualities, just enough to make her reluctant and not be able to totally handle her emotions, tripping over herself a bit, making cute, willing, girly and off-guard moments all the more attractive because it’s like she opening up to us.

In short these girls are 10/10 each thanks to careful character design and enjoyably troped personalities.

Feel free to send in more requests of anime/anime-esque girls you want me to talk about!

I really wanted to try doing a more realistic portrait again so I used my beloved DnD character, Marf the Monk.

TONS of new experimenting in one drawing! Especially coloring, brush use, and lighting. I’m really hype because I finally got the “colorizing a black and white painting” to work out and while the grayscale may have taken ~10 hours to shade, it only took about one hour to color! I’m definitely going to practice this method some more because I’d love to be able to offer examples of this style for commissions.

@pilferingapples Have I mentioned lately that you’re awesome? Because you are.

“Which color is this?”

You glance over at the thing your mother is pointing at, and shake your head at it in disgust.

“Ew, no.” You say, tugging her away from the hideously colored, zesty orange scarf, “That is gonna look absolutely terrible on you—don’t buy it.”

“Relax.” Your mother rolls her eyes, still letting you guide her to the… safer section of the store, “It’s not like your Dad’s going to mind, sweetheart.”

“Yes, but,” You shrug defeatedly, “That’s because Dad can’t see how hideous the color is. I still can.”

“I thank you for the sentiment, honey.”

“Anytime.”

The two of you share a private grin, before your mother hums delicately and busies herself looking through racks and racks of shirts, feeling the material absently. You only watch, noting to yourself sadly how she frowns confusedly at certain shirts of the same design, but different colors. You sigh then, propelling yourself forward.

“Take this one.” You push the plum colored shirt back onto the rack, and press the maroon one into her hands, “It suits you better.”

“Oh, thank you sweetheart.” She says gratefully, smiling gently at you, “What on earth would I do without you?”

“I ask myself that every day.” You mutter to yourself as you watch her make for the changing rooms, “Indeed, what would you do?”

Sighing, you take out your phone, trying to preoccupy yourself with one of your apps so that you can pass the time away. No matter how much you play, though, you can’t get your mind off your mother’s predicament.

Why on earth would people actively look for their soulmates, if their vision turns grey the second they do? What on earth would possess them, for them to do that? It doesn’t…it just doesn’t make sense.

Your mother comes back, by then, clothes bundled up in the shopping bag. You take it from her and, sighing at the ugly orange scarf at the bottom of the pile, make your way to the cash counter with her so that you can pay.

“Good morning Ma’am!”

You trace the countertop idly as your mom exchanges pleasantries with some guy behind the computer. You don’t look up, not until your mom nudges at you to hand her wallet over. Fishing it out, you present it to her, before lazily trailing your eyes upward, locking on surprised cocoa brown ones, before everything turns grey.

So I really didn’t like these capris from Spa Day much due to the color blocking.  I recolored them in WildlyMiniatureSandwich’s neutrals and unnaturals and I like them a lot better now.  However, due to the original being two toned, the colors aren’t exactly how you would expect them to be.  The first two girls are wearing the same color top and bottom so you can see what I mean.  I think they are still cute so I’m sharing them anyways.
