I'm a simple woman. I dig my hole

I get home from work every night and go out back and tunnel into the earth with my bare hands just like any other good and god fearing citizen

Get out

I was walking home from work yesterday with music blasting in my ears, these 2 boys flashed past me running… like running for their lives 🏃🏿💨so I took my headphones off and looked back… nothing! I got nervous then dashed for my life too 😭when I got to the high road I saw them, turns out they were running to catch the bus 😂😂😂

To save money while attending college in NYC, Stiles and Derek decide to rent one tiny apartment together. With one bed.

*whispers* I have no idea if any of this is realistic. Don’t judge me.

You guys know by now that practically everything I write is so so fluffy, but this is just like, a whole other level. A little over 4k words of enemies-to-lovers, bed-sharing, & cuddling. ;)

The thing is, Stiles is pretty sure he can’t afford to breathe the air in New York City, let alone rent an apartment there. But it’s also been his lifelong dream to go to NYU, same as his mom, and he’s just gotten his acceptance letter in the mail along with a hefty scholarship offer. So he has a bit of a conundrum on his hands.

Enter Derek, who has a (relatively) dirt cheap apartment in Queens.

Okay, so Derek calls it an “apartment.” Stiles calls it an “attic closet.”

It’s nothing but a narrow bed, a foot or so of walking space between that and the wall, and a lone shelf by the door to hold the microwave and all of Derek’s possessions that can’t fit under the bed. There’s not even enough room to open the door all the way; the edge of the door hits the edge of the bed, and then you have to shimmy into the room.

The sad thing is that Stiles can’t even afford that.

He can, however, afford half of it.

“So you’re going to share a bed,” Scott says, looking concerned.

“Yes,” Stiles says.

“No,” Derek says at the same time.

Scott looks more concerned.

Stiles sighs. “Okay, so it’s like this. Derek’s going to be doing the whole normal person schedule, up at the buttcrack of dawn” (Derek rolls his eyes) “and out working and studying and stuff all day and back in bed asleep by 11 pm, and I’m going to be taking all evening classes and working the night shift!”

“We won’t actually ever be in the same place at the same time,” Derek clarifies. “He gets it during the day; I get it at night.”

“Because we can’t stand each other,” Stiles adds, in case Scott is thinking of getting his hopes up that this whole roommates thing is going to be some kind of bromance.

Sometimes, you go through something and it hurts and you don’t know if things are ever going to be okay again. But then days go by and you don’t feel like crying and you wonder what it means that you’re fine. You think maybe you’re ignoring your emotions and that they’ll come back out of no where. Until you’re driving home from work, singing along to the radio and wondering what you’ll have for dinner, and you realize you’re happy. Maybe that thing didn’t break you because you’re stronger than that. Maybe you can survive anything. Maybe you finally want to.

The 2nd idea is: mc's co-worker, old friend, neighbour starts to spend too much time with mc. There is a very good reason for this, meeting are very innocent and ofc mc isn't cheating, but RFA+V+Saeran starts to feel jealous. Thank you again:)

We decided to go with the second idea! Thanks for sending them in^_^

Zen:

  • You wanted to run a marathon in the next month
  • But Zen’s schedule was packed and you didn’t want to bother him
  • It came up in a casual conversation with your neighbor
  • Turns out he was running too, so you decided to be partners
  • You’re really open with it and tell him you’re going to the park to train
  • Zen was chill about it, knowing you have a girl squad you usually work out with
  • Then he comes home from work early one day and decides he’ll just meet you there and join you
  • He sees you running with your neighbor
  • You stop suddenly trying to catch your breath
  • Your neighbor pats you on the back and says encouraging words
  • Zen tenses
  • Why is some dude touching his bae’s back?
  • Walks up to you guys and asks what’s going on
  • When you explain that you’re both training for the marathon, he gives you the puppy eyes
  • “You’re training with someone other than me.”
  • You explain that he was busy and you didn’t want to bother him
  • Suddenly declares his schedule is now clear and his trainer wants him to jog more
  • New training buddy
  • Thankfully, your neighbor has been living next to Zen long enough, he’s not offended in the least

Yoosung:

  • There was one particularly fickle party guest
  • He wanted to meet with you and discuss details several times throughout the week
  • These meetings go longer than you want them to
  • Whenever Yoosung tries to make plans, you always have to cancel because of meeting or because of exhaustion
  • One of these meetings happened to be at a coffee shop
  • Yoosung had stopped in between classes and saw you with the client
  • When he sees how tired you are, he grabs his own coffee and slips into the booth next to you
  • The client is taken aback but Yoosung just smiles and introduces himself as an RFA member
  • “I’m her assistant. You can email me from now on, okay?”
  • His voice is really taut, and you can tell he’s trying to hide it
  • When you guys are alone, he gets super pouty
  • “Why didn’t you tell me he was so young? He was practically flirting with you!”
  • “Yoosung…he just asked me for a pen.”
  • You ask if he wants a kiss for assurance
  • He doesn’t disagree

Jaehee:

  • You had a busy week, so it was inevitable when you mixed orders
  • You went to apologize to the customer and realized it was an old friend
  • She was in a rush, so she asked if you wanted to catch up later
  • She had a really busy schedule and was only in town for a week
  • So, you tried to meet for an hour or so every day
  • Jaehee knows about it…and she hates to admit that she’s getting best friend jealous
  • But, she doesn’t want to bother you by admitting it
  • She gets really quiet that week
  • You knew something was up when she doesn’t ask about your meetings
  • Normally, she always asks about your day and what happened
  • When you two finally talk, you reassure her that she’s definitely your best friend
  • Although you do feel badly about brushing her off a little that week
  • You make up for it and plan a whole weekend to do things Jaehee likes

Jumin:

  • You ran into your old boss while running errands
  • He was opening a new business in the town and gave you an offer to work for him again
  • You weren’t averse to it, since he was a good boss and asked to discuss it more
  • He’s fine with it at first
  • But then you cancel dinner with him for a third night in a row because your boss is still trying to iron out things
  • Jumin decides to plan a dinner with clients as well so he can finish extra work
  • He didn’t realize he reserved a table at the same restaurant
  • As you’re leaving, he runs into you and your boss
  • He’s very professional and smiling
  • But you can’t help but notice he’s holding you closer
  • His hand is constantly on your back or around your shoulder as he talks to your boss
  • At home, you ask him if got a bit jealous
  • “What? I don’t know what you’re talking about….“

Seven:

  • Your old college buddy recently moved into town
  • He’d been busy trying to settle into town and find furniture
  • So you offered to catsit for him
  • You told Seven about it, but he missed the “college buddy” part and thought you were cat-sitting for some old man
  • One day, he’s taking a drive around to clear his head
  • He passes by and it looks like you’re hugging some dude
  • You were really only handing the cat over to your friend, but it looked weird at an angle
  • He parks the car quickly and rushes over to you
  • Greets you guys and you introduce him to your friend
  • Suddenly, he swings an arm around your shoulder
  • You notice his comments becoming increasingly passive aggressive
  • You deter him and excuse you both
  • You attempt to tease him once you get in the car
  • “Seven, were you jealous?”
  • “Yeah, I was. That was a good looking cat. You might like it more than me.”

Saeran:

  • You were taking a relaxing walk in the park when a dog comes up to you
  • You figured it was lost and tried looking for the owner
  • Finally someone jogged over to you to claim it…turns out it was your high school buddy
  • He was running a dog shelter and one of them got loose when he was walking them
  • You’d been looking for a place to volunteer on weekends, so you ask if you can stop by
  • When you first tell Saeran, he’s like whatever
  • Doggos are cute
  • One day, you left your keys behind
  • He decides just to bring it to you instead of calling
  • When he gets there, he sees the guy is really friendly with you
  • He cuts through your conversation and abruptly hands you your keys
  • You thank him…but he doesn’t move
  • He just stands there for awhile, and then points out some cute dogs
  • Your friend asks if he wants to volunteer too
  • He looks your buddy right in the eye
  • “I might,” he deadpans
  • Your friend is scared but you can’t stop laughing

V:

  • You were put on a new project at work which required overtime
  • Your co-worker said it would be faster if you partnered up
  • You agree, but you really didn’t like your coworker that much
  • You have to work late hours a lot
  • Your coworker was friendlier than you would like
  • And very lazy
  • Your building was closing so you suggest to move your work to a small cafe downtown
  • Your coworker agreed…not knowing it was right next to V’s studio
  • After a few more unwanted comments, you send V a text and ask him to stop by
  • He’s there in a flash
  • He stops by your table and introduces himself to your coworker
  • He turns to you, “Oh, I’m sorry, darling. There’s been a family emergency. I need to take you away. I’m sure your coworker is more than capable enough to finish all this off, right?”
  • You play along and escape there as quickly as possible
  • “So…about that family emergency…does take-out sound good?”

It was meant to be your night. You and Steve were meant to have a night in tonight since he got home from the mission. At first, you thought maybe the team was late getting in from Austria, that they had something else to deal with before they came home.But 2 hours later, after texting Steve 3 times, and calling twice, you started to worry, so instead of calling him again, you texted Natasha, who sent back a message that puzzled you at first glance.

Nat: We’ve been back for hours now. I thought he was going to you?

You looked down at the phone, and then at the time, before calling Steve again, with no answer. Sighing, you put the dinner you made in the fridge, realizing no one was going to eat it anytime soon, and went to sit on the couch, staring at the blank television.

Finally deciding to distract yourself from the pain in your heart and the envelope on the table, you turned on the tv and mindlessly watched whatever was playing. Eventually, you fell asleep, wiping the silent tears off your face and hoping Steve would come home soon.

Meanwhile, 45 minutes away, Steve sat alone on a bar stool, staring at the empty glass in front of him. After looking up at the bartender for the 5th time that night, he refilled the glass with whiskey, and downed it in seconds.

In his head, the same voice echoed over an over again, and he couldn’t get it out.

She’s going to end up just like them, dead and gone.

The mission he had just gone on, was tearing him apart inside. New HYDRA bases called for everyone to come in, and this one was no different. It was his job to clear out the C-Wing with Natasha, where there were said to be several guards, weapons and files. Everything went as planned until he got through the sealed C-Wing door, when everything went crumbling. As soon as he got in there, he wasn’t just faced with a guard, he was faced with his worst nightmares.

He was forced to remember his mom, more specifically, his mom’s death. He was forced to remember Peggy, how he left her, how they never had their first dance. Forced to remember Bucky, how he didn’t save him, what Bucky was forced to go through with HYDRA. Forced to remember all those he couldn’t save. And then he mentioned you.

For the first time in years, he was angry enough that he killed the guard with his bare hands.

He snapped out of his mind for a minute, realizing hours had passed, and he saw he had several missed calls from your number. He knew he should have replied, he should be at home. But right now, he couldn’t face going home to you.

So he sat there, downing glass after glass of hot whiskey, not caring what time it was when he ultimately decided he needed to go home and sleep. So he paid the bartender, leaving a generous tip and started walking.

It was 2am when the keys rattled against the door, stirring you out of your slumber, and sighing when you realized he was finally home. You sat there, staring at your knees as you rubbed the sleep out of your eyes as you waited for Steve to finally walk through the door.

When he finally stepped through, you could tell something was wrong. He smelt of alcohol and cigarettes, and he basically slammed the door shut as he came in.

“Steve?” You asked, seeing him drop the keys into the jar and continue walking towards the bedroom.

He didn’t say anything, the only thing you could hear was the closet door opening and closing. Then his footsteps slowly started coming back to the front room, where he went right into the kitchen, and started looking through the fridge.

“Is there any dinner?” He asked.

You were taken back to say the least. He completely ignores you after being on a mission for 3 days, and the first thing he mentions is food.

“Yeah, but Steve, why didn’t you pick up my calls? Or any of my messages?” You asked.

He ignored you again, and by now, you were more infuriated.

“Jesus, Steve… Are you going to say anything other than ‘is there dinner?’ to me? I’ve been waiting hours for you to come home and-”

“I don’t care, (Y/N)! I really don’t care right now, being here is the last thing on my mind!” He yelled.

That’s when you completely lost it.

“God! Steve, I know you have work! I know you have priorities, and there are certain things you need to get done! I have understood that from day one! For 3 years, I’ve sat here, understanding that there are some things that will come before me! I’ve accepted that for years! But the one night I want you to come home and stay with me, you leave! You don’t pick up your phone- I-I don’t know if you’re dead, if you’re hurt, I’m sitting here worrying, and I find out you’re at a bar drinking! I leave messages asking you to come home, but you ignore me! And you don’t care right now, but I can’t put up with this right now! I can’t come home knowing that you don’t care because I need you!”

It was silent for what felt like forever, but as the seconds ticked by and he said nothing, he just stared down at his feet, before rubbing his hands over his face and refusing to look at you. That’s when you finally had enough.

“I’m done, Steve.” You rose up, trying to keep the tears that were fighting to come out as you walked out.

“(Y/N)… Please don’t leave me.” He whispered, reaching for you as you moved away from his grasp, and towards the door.

As much as it was breaking your heart, you grabbed your keys, bag, and shoes before you left.

“I can’t… I can’t do this Steve… not right now… Find me when the Steve I fell in love with comes back.” You slammed the door, and he just stood there watching.

It took him a long time to process what had happened. Standing there, replaying the moment the love of his life walked out, all because he couldn’t separate work from home.

He stood there for what felt like hours, before he turned to the living room where the baby blue envelope laid on the coffee table. Curious, he picked it up, and saw your distinct writing on the back, neatly spelling out his name. Without thinking, he opened the envelope, seeing a small slip of paper fall out. Picking it up, he was once again left completely speechless.

On the card was neatly scrawled writing, the message making him tear up before he fell to his knees, trying to stifle his sobs as he looked at the image and the message again.

You’re going to be a great father.

I love you, Steve.

Without reading the rest of the card, he looked back at the ultrasound, the small outline of red ink made by the doctor around the small bean shape on the image. Everything fell apart at that moment. He had driven away the one person he had left, and his unborn child.

~~~~~
Levi’s first clue should have been how cheap the listing on the house was. His next should have been how jumpy the realtor was as he showed Levi around the premises. The final one should have been the story he found online - he had to know why no one had bought it yet, it was in nice condition considering it was basically abandoned, and the fact that the front door lock was busted - about the woman that was murdered there nearly eleven years ago.
Oh. So the house was haunted.
Or that’s what people said anyway. But even if it was, so what? What was going to happen? Was it going to try and kill him or something? He’d had people trying to kill him all his life. It was a rite of passage when you grew up in the worst neighborhood in the country. He was just happy to be out; still couldn’t believe he had managed it with nothing more than a few scars and the occasional bout of insomnia.
Levi didn’t actually believe the claim until a few days after he moved in.
He had placed a small ceramic turtle - they were supposed to be good luck or something, but mainly Levi had it because it was kind of cute - on the mantle of the fireplace in the sitting room before bed, but by the next morning it was on the windowsill in the kitchen. He stared at the turtle for a good long while before putting it back on the mantle.
Later he noticed that was back on the windowsill.
Fine then. If that’s where the ghost wanted it, then so be it. He had to admit the turtle did look nice there.
After that it was like a game. He would sit something out and the ghost would rearrange it. Sometimes Levi would move it back and the ghost would leave it alone. Mostly the ghost put the object wherever it wanted and Levi would let it be.
Levi didn’t mind really. He actually quite agreed with most of the rearrangements, especially when the ghost moved one of the chairs from his living room to a spot by the back window - it got a lot of sun and he often found himself taking small naps in it in the afternoons.
The ghost managed to freak Levi out only once when he came home from work to find a steaming cup of tea waiting for him at the kitchen table. The potential for the ghost to set the house on fire by somehow lighting the gas stove aside, it was made exactly to his liking, which even the most talented of baristas could not do.
It was like living with a very considerate and observant roommate. Or a mom. Levi imagined this was what it would have been like if he had grown up with his mother.
The only things the ghost didn’t mess with was whatever he had outside - things like the broom he kept propped by the door or the potted plants he had on the railing. It seemed the ghost didn’t travel beyond the four walls of the house. Maybe it couldn’t. Maybe there was some unspoken ghost rule that you couldn’t leave the thing you haunted or else you would disappear.
Well, that just meant Levi had to do all the gardening himself.
He was doing just that one after when he heard a car pull into his driveway and he looked up, wondering who in the fuck that could be. A man with wild brown hair and bright green eyes climbed out of the car. That wasn’t someone he knew. Levi stood, the man spotting him immediately, eyes widening in surprise like he was a surprised to see Levi as Levi was to see him.
“Hi,” he said nervously.
“What do you want?” Levi asked.
“Oh, I,” he shifted his hands and that’s when Levi noticed the bouquet there. “I didn’t know anyone had bought the house. The bank’s had it up for sale for forever, didn’t think it would ever go.
“I didn’t want to get rid of it in the first place, but my sister said it was for the best. I know I shouldn’t keep coming back, I keep telling myself to stop, but I always–I’m Eren, by the way,” he said, stopping himself from rambling further.
“…Levi,” he said after a few moments.
“I don’t want to intrude or anything, but could you–” Eren held out the flowers towards Levi “–well, I guess I still am if I ask you to put these inside…”
He trailed off, head dipping. And then he sniffled.
Fuck he was crying.
Levi wasn’t sure what to do when people he actually knew started crying, let alone a complete stranger. But here was this random guy, with these random flowers, randomly crying in his yard.
What was even with the flowers? Who were they for?
And then it clicked.
There was a vase on the kitchen table that he wasn’t allowed to touch. He had tried putting in the cupboard but it always ended up back on the table. He had tried filling it once, too, but the flowers were moved to a different vase the next time he looked. Levi’s housemate insisted on keeping it empty. The only time it wasn’t empty was when he first moved in - there were some wilted flowers in it, gladiolas if he remembered correctly.
The same flower Eren had with him now.
“Do you,” Levi began, pausing when Eren jumped and hastily wiped at his face before looking up at Levi. “Do you want to come in?”
Eren sniffed and nodded and followed Levi inside. When they got to the kitchen Eren made a small ‘Oh’ of recognition when he saw the vase.
“You use it?” he asked as he lifted it and took it to the sink to fill it with water.
“Not really,” Levi answered, figuring ‘I’m not allowed to’ would sound a little weird. “Who are they for?”
“…My mom.”
“What was her name?” Levi asked, hoping he wasn’t pushing too much.
“Carla.”
There was a moment of silence as Eren put the flowers in the vase and sat them on the table.
“Thank you.” He paused. “And thank you for keeping the house nice, too.”
Levi shrugged, nodded. He lived here now, so of course he would, though he didn’t actually change much when he moved in aside from some furniture, and he’s sure that’s what Eren actually meant.
“Well, I should go. Thanks again.”
They exited the house, Levi staying on the porch as Eren went back to his car.
“Hey!” Levi shouted as he opened the door. “You can come back anytime, okay?”
Eren beamed at him, then got in and drove off.
Levi watched him go, lingering on the porch well after he was out of sight, wondering if that was the right thing to do. After a few minutes he sighed and went back inside.
He was greeted by a fresh, steaming cup of tea on the table next to the vase of flowers.
“Thanks…Carla,” he said, adding the name after a few moments. “But we have to talk about this ‘using the stove while I’m not in the house’ thing. It’s killing me.”
Time.
It’s a funny concept for Y/n. Between every hour and every minute of the day, there lays a purpose. Every second counts, whether it determines the rest of your life or destroys what’s left of it. For those, time goes quickly or barely passes at all- has no beginning nor end.
It’s relied heavily on, because we all die one day or another, unexpectedly or anticipated, and if a second of time is wasted, it haunts us until our dying days.
Time is the one true consistency in everyone’s life.
When Y/n was younger, time meant everything. She counted the days till her birthday, counted down the seconds to the new year, and dated every special event she could think of. She believed that every second of her life mattered so greatly, that everything she had once known could change in a blink of an eye. Days were filled with bliss, anticipation for what the future held for her. Because she wasn’t getting any younger, and all she could think about how she was one second- a millisecond, even- away from her life giving her a new purpose.
It wasn’t until summer of 2012 when all of her greatest expectations were destroyed in a blink of an eye.
Y/n lost her father.
It happened so suddenly, an unexpected collision during the early hours of the morning. Y/n was home at the time, locked away in her room because she had an argument with him earlier on that night. Because the money situation was tight, it was impossible for Y/n to attend her top choice university. She insisted that she’d take out loans from the bank and pay every bit of tuition herself, but he refused.
She felt as if all her time and effort has been wasted. Of course, there were other schools, but Y/n was too stubborn and so set on attending this university that they didn’t matter half as much as the one she worked for.
She spewed out words she didn’t mean, anger and frustration boiling up inside of her. She had worked so hard for this moment- had worked so hard to make her parents and herself proud, but it all blew up in her face. She had never been so upset before, and it was the first time in a while she started to raise her voice and cry to try and get her way. She would have done anything, even if it meant insulting her father.
He pleaded for her to settle down, because no matter where she ended up, she’d always make him proud. But she wasn’t having it.
“I never want to talk to you again.”
Of course she didn’t mean it, but she just felt so betrayed. And because of how sensitive she was, she knew the grudge she was holding against him was going to last a while.
Already late for his meeting, he sighed and placed a delicate kiss on her forehead, the way he always did whenever they were in an argument. It was to show that he still loved her, that he’ll always love her, even when times seemed rough.
“I’m so sorry, love bug. We’ll discuss this with your mother once I get back from my meeting.“
It wasn’t until a couple hours later her mom called her.
She was sobbing, her words jumbled and breath so harsh Y/n could barely understand a word she was saying. All she managed to hear was “your father” and “car accident,” and it was all she needed to understand that her father hadn’t made it. He was never going to come back home.
Y/n spent the next couple of months trying to cope with his loss. She didn’t understand what it meant to lose somebody forever, she never experienced that kind of pain before. It was too much for her, living without her father and watching her mother slowly turn into a lifeless woman.
The only way to cope with all of the pain was to stop eating.
She didn’t know exactly how it helped, but it did. She saw it as a punishment against herself, for saying such horrible things to her father and having him believe she truly never wanted to speak to him again. She didn’t blame herself for his loss, but she carried a horrendous amount of guilt upon herself. So, she began to skip meals, which wasn’t hard because she could barely stomach the thought of food while she was as depressed as she was. And what started off as a coping mechanism turned into something much more fatal.
Now, time means nothing to her, filled with an empty void. Every minute is another minute of being alone- another minute closer to her end. She sits, stares at the wall clock hung perfectly in Ms. Carter’s office, and watches as it passes with every breath she takes.
“Y/n..” Ms. Carter mumbles, looking down at her watch to calculate just how much time has been wasted since their session began.
“Are you ever going to speak?” she questions with an exasperated sigh, long past her patience because all of their recent sessions have consisted of unanswered questions and the same dismal look displayed on Y/n’s face.
Y/n makes no effort to answer her. Her legs stay crossed indian-style in front of her, picking at a hangnail that’s been bothering her the past couple of days. She hasn’t moved since the appointment started, staying in the same position as Ms. Carter asked her questions Y/n was hardly paying attention to.
She’s well aware she’s wasting Ms. Carter’s time. She could be guiding other clients toward the help they need, or simply listening to someone’s troubles other than the horns honking outside and the agonizing sound of the clock ticking further toward the next hour.
Hell, she’s even convinced that she’d be wasting her own time, as well, if it weren’t for the emptiness in her heart. This is the only place Y/n has somebody. Everyone in her life left her, unable to deal with the constant struggle of her eating disorder. Her family, friends, boyfriends; all of them had left her. What was once an attempt to help Y/n recover from her disorder turned into a part time job for them; a constant occupation in their lives to deal with her.
If it was their choice, they probably would have left sooner than they did. But they all gave her pity, only remaining in her life because they felt another person leaving her would push her to the edge- would push her into something far more fatal. Some left without a word, others left with a rehearsed speech about how they didn’t want to see her suffer, that they couldn’t bare the sight of her bones sticking from her body. They couldn’t help her anymore, because they didn’t understand, and they barely have their own lives figured out, so how could they figure out hers? They finished their speeches with a sympathetic apology, saying that they’d still be there for her if she needed them. But they didn’t mean it. She knew they didn’t mean it.
A year and a half into her disorder, with nobody by her side, with not a soul left to help her recover, someone saved her.
Harry.
When he started to get to know her- to listen to her story- he had never felt more remorse for somebody the way he had with her. Such a beautiful and sweet woman has been torturing herself for years all because of the amount of guilt she had at such a young age. He couldn’t begin to imagine what she’s been through, all the pain and hardship she’s endured throughout er life.
She was so lovely, as well, he fell in love with her the moment she started opening up to him. It was easy for the both of them, to talk to one another, simply because there was instant connection none of them could deny. They fit into each other’s lives perfectly, as if filling up the emptiness they both had.
Harry dedicated every part of his life to her, with not a single complaint hanging from his lips. He loved her in ways nobody else had loved her before. He showed it by staying with her, through all the horrible battles she faced. He was patient with her, putting up with her fight against food and reassuring her when she wanted to throw it all up. He was there every step toward her recovery and every step toward her relapses.
It took a long while for her to finally recover. She was eating again; she was healthy again. Her skin glowed with an olive undertone, hair so soft Harry found it irresistible not to touch. Her once twisted thoughts altered to an optimistic mindset. The once beautiful girl he once known developed into an ethereal woman, convinced he was going to spend the rest of his faithful life with her.
If it weren’t for Harry, she wouldn’t have recovered. When he came into her life, she made every promise to herself and to Harry that she would overcome this. She’d continue her battle for them, because she now had a reason to fight. Her love for Harry pushed her to be the woman she became. He changed her- he saved her.
But a year into her recovery, something changed between them.
Something changed in him.
She never felt his love like she used to. He was barley there for her. When he’d come home from work, he wouldn’t call out for her anymore. Even though they were together, she began to feel lonely again. Y/n was convinced he had stopped loving her. She stayed up countless nights, without him, wondering what she did wrong. He didn’t hold her anymore, not like he used to. Before, he’d always hold her, because his arms were her sanctuary and his chest was a bed made specially for her head. His lips only lingered on her cheek or forehead, not in the way they used to. Before, he’d always kiss her lips, because he said he swore his lips were compelled to love hers and said he was always hungry for her love. She fell asleep feeling empty, not in the way she had before. Before, amongst falling asleep, he’d be inside of her, hips colliding with hers because he praised her, and said he’d never love the way he loved her.
But it all ended so suddenly, there was no warning.
She began to feel what she felt with everyone else- neglected.
She felt it was because she recovered. When she was battling her disorder, he loved her because he felt he had to. She had nobody else. Her family had given up on her, her friends left her, and she was left with absolutely nothing. He came at a time she needed someone most. At that point, she was prepared to die, there was no helping it. He was her lifeline, her only dependency, and that’s why he had stopped loving her. He didn’t need to love her anymore.
“I- I don’t quite know what to say.” Y/n mumbles.
She wishes she could tell Ms. Carter everything about it. She wishes she could talk to her like she was supposed to; trust her and open up to her to help her with her recovery. But if she does, she knows Ms. Carter would have to take her to a rehabilitation center. And Y/n wanted absolutely nothing to do with that.
Ms. Carter nods, lips pursing as she places her notebook down of her wooden coffee table. She crosses her legs and arms, back moving to rest upon the black velvet seat she always sits in during her sessions.
“Then why do you come to me, Y/n?” she asks softly, watching as Y/n moves her eyes slowly to her. “If you don’t know what to say, why are you here?”
She shrugs, arms moving to hug her knees to her chest. She rests her chin gently on her knee cap, eyes trained on the window directly in front of her. She watches as cars move during the rush hour, people walking on the sidewalks with a premeditated destination. She envies those who thrive, for she lacks motivation to accomplish her ambitions.
“This is all I have.”
Ms. Carter blinks at her confession, interlocking her fingers together while nodding her head.
She knows Y/n has been different the past couple months. Normally, Y/n talks about her relationship with Harry, how he’s been her biggest step toward her recovery. She talked about how great she’d feel, but was, nonetheless, worried she’ll eventually relapse and disappoint him.
Ms. Carter has had suspicions that Y/n is going through another relapse. However, she knew that if she was, that Harry was by her side at home. It was one of the many reasons she hadn’t taken major actions to help her through it. She knew Harry would do her more help than her, but Y/n kept scheduling appointments that she couldn’t deny.
“And what about Harry?” She asks timidly, “Is he helping you through this time, Y/n?”
Y/n’s eyes flutter shut at his name. Her hands shake as her fingers pull down the sleeves of her sweatshirt, tugging them all the way so that her hands are completely covered by the material.
“Not anymore.” She whispers.
Y/n’s eyes divert to Ms. Carter’s cautious gaze. Her mouth is slightly parted, almost shocked at the confession she made. Ms. Carter knows the only thing that guided her was Harry. He was her rock and support through her entire fight, and with the possibility of his departure comes the possibility of Y/n going back to where it all began.
“Are you- are you still eating, Y/n?”
Her eyes go back to the window.
Another question left unanswered.
The weather outside is making Harry miserable. So miserable, in fact, he’s refused to move from his spot on the couch for the past four hours.
The house is dark for the mid-afternoon, the gloomy weather making it nearly feel like a funeral home. With no motivation to go outside and finding it oddly comfortable to wallow, he can’t help but to keep his eyes trained on the television show playing in front of him. It’s Y/n’s favorite show- one they watched nearly every Saturday afternoon because that’s when CW aired the marathon.
He still watches it every Saturday. A part of him can’t let the tradition go. He’s somehow convinced himself that maybe, just maybe, she couldn’t, either, and they are some how both watching it at the same time in two different places. Gemma tells him that she probably does the same, as well, but he should try to move on from her; that staying in the house and only doing things that remind him of her is going to edge him to insanity. But oddly, consuming his days with things that remind him of her keep him as sane as he can possibly be.
He sighs, clammy fingers tugging at the roots of his hair as he looks down at his phone for what must have been the twentieth time today. His thumb hovers over her contact number, twitching as he begins to contemplate whether to call her or not. It’s been months since he’s seen her, let alone talked to her. Every second without knowing how she’s doing kills him more and more each time.
To say Harry’s been worried is an understatement. He’s completely petrified.
For the past couple of years, Harry has been through it all with Y/n. He’s seen her at her worst, was there to witness her greatest and most disastrous downfalls and stood by her side during her most amazing recoveries. He’s seen her in all her forms of terrible glory, with bones sticking from her skin and bruises covering her arms and legs. He’s watched her as people began to leave her one by one- a bystander of a broken girl being neglected by her loved ones. He’s seen her fantasize about her end and watched as pain settled in her eyes.
And he just can’t shake the feeling that everything Y/n has built up to her recovery has been knocked down again.
He can’t stomach the thought of her looking the way she did when they first met. He doesn’t even want to think about what she’s been putting herself up against since his departure.
For the first month after their breakup, Harry had called Y/n everyday to make sure she was eating properly. He’d call her before bed, asking numerous questions about her diet and her therapy sessions. What did you eat today? How much did you eat? Was Ms. Carter nice? How are you feeling? It was a routine that was able to keep both of them sane during their separation.
It didn’t last long, however, when Y/n started to finally realize she wasn’t able to move on. Between the constant reminder that she didn’t have anybody there for her anymore and his constant phone calls, she found it impossible to move on from him.
Y/n also began to feel upset that Harry had broke things off with her but still had the audacity to call her. She understood what he was doing. She understood that he was showing her that he still cared and worried for her, but the fact that the only effort he had put into taking care of her was through a phone call made Y/n feel like a charity case.
“I just can’t do this anymore, Harry” she muttered softly to the phone, her fingers halfheartedly fiddling with the corner of the duvet, “You can’t keep calling me when we aren’t dating.”
His heart fell to the pit of his stomach. Calling her before bed was a routine to him now. Talking to her was able to keep him sane, because he was getting the reassurance he needed to know she was doing okay.
In all honesty, he didn’t know if he could go a day without talking to her. Without her updating him, he knows he’d spend every second of his day worrying about her health and how she’d be keeping up with herself.
The phone calls were also the bit of her he had left. If he were to stop calling her, all he’d have left is her empty side of the bed, and he needed more than that. He needed more of her.
“But you need to see that I still care for you, Y/n” he whispers brokenly, “that I’ll always be here to make sure you’re alright.”
“But how do you think that makes me feel?!”
Her voice was higher than usual, a tone she very rarely used with him because he never gave her a reason to be angry. But now, after him calling off their relationship but still having the audacity to call her made her sick to her stomach.
“If you still cared, if you still wanted me, you’d be with me right now! You’re not making any effort to care for me, Harry! Calling me doesn’t mean anything because you’re not here!
He shut his eyes at her words, a pang of guilt hitting him like a ton of bricks. He would be there with her if he had a choice, but their relationship wasn’t working out in both of their favors. In the midst of her getting her life back and him settling in a new job, it was very hard for them to keep up with each other. It was especially hard for him to keep up with her because she seemed to be so content in her new life that he almost felt unwanted.
He still loved her, but he felt like she didn’t want him anymore. She had recovered because of him, and because she didn’t have to rely on him in the way he was used to, he felt useless in her life. And no matter how much he tried to convince himself that it wasn’t true, that she still wanted and needed him, it still broke him apart.
“You know our relationship wasn’t working out for us and-“
No,” she cut him off, teeth clenching out of frustration, “our relationship wasn’t working out for you. You felt no need to love me anymore, so you left me just like everybody else.”
Harry’s jaw clenches as she speaks, head thrashing wildly side to side, because it’s not true. Everything she thinks, everything he’s made her come to believe isn’t true, and he wants nothing more than to try to make her understand that he’ll always be in love with her. That he’ll always be there for her because he can’t image a day without loving her the way she deserves.
“Y/n, baby, how could you say tha-“
“You need to stop calling me,” she cries, “you’re either a part of my life or you aren’t. There’s no middle ground for you to be in. That’s not fair to me. It’s either you care for me and love me or you don’t.”
Harry’s breath was harsh against the speaker, fists clenched together as he tries to wrap his head around the situation he’s put in.
The hesitation in his answer was enough for her heart to break. The silence between her words and his answer spoke louder than anything he could possibly say to her.
She couldn’t lie and say she wasn’t surprised this is how their story ended. Everyone has already gave up on her, it was only a certain amount of time before Harry realizes how easy a life would be without her. She just didn’t want to believe it.
“I get it, Harry” she whispers, sniffling as she runs her wrist along the tip of her nose. “Goodbye.“
He’s been doing this everyday, worrying and contemplating on what he should do. He wishes more than anything to be with her the way she deserved, and wishes even more that he had never left her in the first place. He knows calling her would make her angry because she’s made it clear she felt hurt every time she did so, but he also knows not calling her isn’t fair, either.
He understands how wrong it sounds to leave his anorexic girlfriend of three years, but he felt it was best for the both of them at the time. But now, after months of her out of his life with no other connections to hear from her, he realized how stupid he was to convince himself that.
He’s completely devastated without her.
Living without Y/n wasn’t living at all. The life he experienced with her was incomparable to the one he’s been experiencing without her. She’s the love of his life, she’s the woman who showed him what it truly meant to love and care for someone so much. Of course, being with her wasn’t the easiest thing in the world, but loving her was. That’s what made them so real. Their relationship was filled with struggles, messes, and tears, but they were still in love with each other regardless. It was their ability to fight together that pulled them through their most difficult times.
“Jesus, Y/n.” He whispers to himself, “I’m so sorry, baby.”
Harry’s thumb presses on the cancel button, letting out a shaky breath as he does so. He feels a tear slowly fall down his cheek, which he’s quick to wipe away with the back of his hand when he hears the front door swing open.
“Afternoon, H!” Gemma greets, hands filled with grocery bags as she stumbles through the front door.
“Bought us some sandwiches. Turkey chipotle sandwiches, to be exact. Figured we could just watch some shows today? The weather is a fucking disaster, it’s making me moody.”
Harry nods speechlessly, his fingers toying with his upper lip. His eyes divert to Gemma’s struggling figure for just a couple seconds before his attention is back on Y/n’s contact.
“Yeah, yeah sounds fine.” He mutters distractedly.
Gemma’s eyebrows furrow in concern over his melancholy tone, placing the grocery bags lazily on the kitchen counter before making her way toward Harry’s slumped figure.
She bites her lower lip at the look of her distraught brother, who’s clearly shown no improvement since his breakup with Y/n. She’s aware that he blames himself for their breakup and that he spends every waking hour of his day worrying about her. No matter how hard she tries to help him through this struggle in his life, there’s always a part of him that will always feel a sense of protection over her.
He’s a wreck, and no matter how many times he tries to deny it, there were numerous nights Gemma would find Harry staring at her contact during the earliest hours in the morning with helpless tears building in his eyes. She’d even hear him mutter apologies to himself, as if rehearsing a speech to say if he ever found the strength to call her.
Who could really blame him, though?
“You okay?” she asks timidly, already knowing his answer but still finding it in her heart to ask.
She would do anything for him- anything to help him. Hell, she’s tried everything. She’s tried to talk to him alone whenever she found him in his darkest hour, even made him cups of tea to help settle his brain. She bought him a journal, in hopes that writing down his feelings will help him recover in the slightest. She even scheduled him for an in-home therapy session, but every bit of her attempts never budged him. He was still the same mess of a man he has been since the day he left Y/n.
Harry looks up at her, nodding his head feverishly when he sees the concerned look on her face.
“Yeah, yeah I’m fine,” he coughs, looking back down at his phone, “Just haven’t checked up on her in a while. Kinda worried.“
Gemma raises her eyebrows at him, unconvinced.
Kind of worried?” she questions, occupying the space on the couch next to him. Her hand reaches up to his forehead to wipe the beads of sweat off his forehead, which slowly moves to his back in attempt to relieve his tense muscles.
“You’re sweating.”
He lets out a breathy chuckle, his hand reaching to the back of his neck. He nods his head, lips pursing together as he tries to hold back the emotions he’s feeling.
“I feel like she stopped eating and it’s just- it’s just something I can’t stop thinking about, you know? I can’t live in peace when it’s all my head wanders off to.”
Gemma nods her head, her fingers squeezing the skin of his shoulder as a way to reassure that she’s here for him.
She feels awful about how much blame Harry’s been putting on himself the past couple of months. It’s beginning to take a major toll on him, he can barely include himself in day-to-day activities without getting lost in his thoughts. His once well-put-together form has seemed to turn effortless, not cared for in the way it once was. He’s become so disconnected,, she can’t deny the overwhelming concern she’s had for him for the past couple of months.
“I’m sure she’s okay, Harry. I’m sure she’s still checking in with Ms. Carter and working on herself. She’s a strong woman, you and I both know that. Strongest woman we’ve ever met. She’ll be okay.”
She leans over to press a chaste kiss to his cheek.
“And if she isn’t doing well, she would have called you by now.”
But Harry is having none of it. He knows that if she’s relapsing, she wouldn’t have called him. She wouldn’t have called anyone. He knows she feels like he doesn’t care about her anymore- feels like she’s the last thing on his mind. If she were to call him, she’d feel like she was a burden on his life, and that was the last thing she’d want. He knows that.
But if only she knew. If only she knew he can’t sleep at night because all he can think about is betraying the woman he loves, leaving her to fight by herself. Hell, if only she knew he can’t touch his phone without constantly going back to her contact trying to muster up the strength to call her and ask her how she’s doing.
“I was her reason to eat. If she stopped eating, it’s because of me.”
“No,” Gemma shakes her head, reaching her hands up to grab his face to ensure she was looking at him in the eyes, “You can’t put that much responsibility on yourself like that, she had plenty of reasons to recover. None of this would be your fault.”
He shakes his head, gripping the sides of his head as if trying to remain as calm as he possibly can. He wouldn’t be shocked if he lost all of his remaining sanity in his moment.
“I was literally all she had, Gem.” he spits, all the anger and frustration he’s held against himself now unleashing. All the contained emotions he’s been feeling, all the loathing he’s been trying to ignore, is all unraveling inside of him to the point where he feel like he can’t breathe.
“My existence, our future, that’s what she recovered for. Not a second of her recovery was for anybody or anything else.” He rants, breathing harsh as the thoughts rush through his brain. “She had nobody except for me. She didn’t have any friends, any family. She wasn’t fighting when I met her. She was waiting to die..”
“Harry…”
“And I did what I promised her I wouldn’t do and…and now I-”
“You shouldn’t feel obligated to be with her, Harry.” Gemma blinks, shaking her head softly as she reaches to remove his hands from his head, “If you didn’t love her anymore, you didn’t have a choice.“
“But I do love her” he defends, shaking his head, “I’ve always loved her. We had to break up because our relationship wasn’t easy at that time, but hell, Gem, that doesn’t mean I ever stopped loving her.”
He sighs, rubbing his sweaty hands over his face.
Tears fall slowly down his face, soaking his cheeks as he inhales sharply. God, how much he fucking loves her, is what kills him the most.
“Me, helping her recover, of course that was a plus. I helped her get out of her anorexia, Gem. I never gave up on her, but I did once she recovered. That’s not fair, I still love her so much. I don’t know what to do anymore.”
Gemma frowns, slowly leaning toward him so that she can softly wrap her arms around his shoulders. She buries her cheek against his shoulder, thumb rubbing delicate circles on his back.
“I think you know what to do, H.”
Once Y/n’s appointment ended, she found herself curled up in her bed as the sounds of Harry’s mixtape played quietly throughout the room. It was a tape he made for her when they first started dating, something sentimental for her to hold onto whenever he wasn’t able to be there.
She’s been listening to it almost everyday since the breakup. She’d listen to it mindlessly, whether she was staring at wall or she was listening to it on her way to therapy. It was the only thing in her life that made her feel something; the pure value of it holding so much meaning. The music was the closest she’s been to Harry in a while, so it was her sanctuary.
She sighs, her fingers lightly grazing the window that drips with rain. In her loneliest hours, Y/n wants nothing more than to make her way over to him. She doesn’t quite know how she’s made it so long without him. In all honesty, she expected her to have given up and walk up to his door and beg him for his help. She knows she’s suffering, her body weak and starving the more she refuses to eat. But, to her, she has no reason to. Every bit of love she had for herself and every purpose she had to continue living has all dissolved into nothing.
She shakes her head, unwrapping herself from the blankets she raveled herself in before her bare feet made contact with the cold floor. She decides to go for a walk, or maybe just go out on her front porch to get some fresh air. She thinks it’ll be good for her, after all, she doesn’t have anything else to do besides stay cooped up in her four walls and listen to disgusting love songs.
The second she stood up from the bed, she nearly fell onto the floor. Her head spins and feels obnoxiously light when she begins to stand up properly. It wasn’t rare for her to feel lightheaded whenever she moved too quickly, however, this was the most intense it has been. Holding herself onto the wall, she waits until she feels back to her normal self before making her way down toward her living room.
Her fingers immediately press against her temples when she makes it to her foyer. Her head spins wildly with every step she takes, making her lose her balance once she reaches the last step. Her head hits against the floor, a groan leaving her chapped lips as her body begins to tremble. Her eyes cloud with darkness for a few moments at a time before she regains her consciousness, her sight fogged and lightheaded as she tries to pick herself up off the floor.
“No” she mumbles, coughing as she rushes to reach for her phone.
“No, no, no.”
This has happened to her before. It happened years ago, though, when she hasn’t consumed anything for weeks. The only difference is that she had someone there to save her before. Thankfully, her mom was there at the time and rushed to her rescue. When she made it to the hospital, they said she was near her end. If she had went a couple more hours without consumption, she wouldn’t have been able to make it.
But now, she has nobody.
Her breathing becomes harsh as her body keeps losing consciousness. There’s only a certain amount of time she has before she fades out entirely, and no matter how much she’s tried to convince herself that she’s been ready for this moment, she has never been more scared for her life.
Her shaking fingers reach for her phone in her back pocket. She has to do something and has to do it quick. If she dies like this, nobody would be out looking for her, nobody would find her body. She’d be stuck in this house as her body decays into nothing but bone.
She decides that this isn’t how she’s going to die, because if this is the day her end finally nears, she’d want to spend her last dying breaths with the one person she feels something for.
Harry.
She whimpers, weak fingers punching in his phone number. Every part of her wants him to answer- needs him to answer, because he’s her last bit of hope and she doesn’t plan on leaving it all behind. But a part of her wouldn’t blame him for not answering. After all, she was the one who dropped him from her life completely, which was, quite honestly, the stupidest thing she’s ever done in her life. She practically pushed him away entirely, even when he was still there for her. Even when he still held onto her and cared for her like nobody else has.
And she can’t die knowing that.
“Y/n?”
Y/n swears hearing his voice is everything she needs in this moment.
Seeing her name light up on his phone makes Harry spring out of bed, his hands gripping the phone closer to his ear, as if trying to get closer to her. It’s been too long since he’s talked to her, and he’s convinced he can’t allow himself to waste another minute without hearing her voice again.
But no matter how much he wishes she was calling because she missed him, too, he just can’t seem to shake the feeling that the only reason she called is because she’s in trouble.
“Harry” she heaves groggily.
Her eyes are clouded, the room spinning around her. She can barely move, only the ghostly movements of her lips and the subtle rise and fall of her chest. She’s lightheaded, feeling cold and utterly weightless as her body lays faint on the carpeted floor beneath her.
“Y/n” Harry breathes out, slightly confused and partially in awe at the sound of her voice, “are you okay? I was gonna come by later. Been worried about you.”
“I keep fading out” she whimpers, her eyes closing longly each passing second, “I’m gonna die.”
Harry’s face pales the second he hears the struggling in her voice.
Nothing could have prepared him for this moment. It’s as if the world has stopped revolving around him, his only concern being Y/n and her safety. With her shaking voice filled with fear; it feels as if every one of Harry’s greatest fears are all coming to haunt him all at once. Y/n’s in a great amount of danger, all because of him, and he might not be able to save her in time.
In a matter of a second, working so quickly Harry doesn’t seem to fully keep up with his actions, he’s stumbling down his stairs and at his front door, holding his car keys shakingly in his hands. He doesn’t even bother putting on a pair of shoes or a jacket before he’s rushing toward his car.
“Y/n…Y/n, you have listen to me very carefully.” he pants, slightly tripping over his own two feet before regaining balance. “You have to hang up the phone and dial the police before i-”
“I- I can’t, Harry” she chokes out, interrupting him because she doesn’t know how much longer she can make it. “I’m so weak. I can’t move.”
Harry’s moving wildly once he sits down in the car. His hands are shaking so harshly it takes him a couple seconds to push the keys in the ignition, causing frantic mumbles of c’mon, c’mon, c’mon to leave his quivering lips.
“Fucking shit!” he spits, putting the car in reverse and stepping on the pedal so hard he’s convinced his car will be wrecked by the time he gets to her. But he doesn’t care, not at all.
He puts his car in drive and swerves onto the road, breaking the speed limit by an extra 30 miles an hour. His teeth clench together as his hand wraps tightly around the stirring wheel, causing his knuckles to turn white as he steps down on the pedal harder.
No matter what speed he goes, he has this inevitable fear that he isn’t going to make it to her on time. He feels he has no time- that she has no time- and no matter how badly he wishes he can stay talking to her to ensure that she’ll be okay by the time he reaches her, he knows it isn’t her safest option. He has to risk it, he doesn’t have much of a choice.
“You gotta give me two minutes, love. I’m putting you on hold for two minutes so that I can send someone over to you. Do not hang up on me, you hear me? You stay with me. Gimme two minutes.”
He doesn’t give her any time to reply before he puts her on hold. His fingers are rapid as he calls the police, the fingers that are gripping onto the steering wheel tapping along the leather as he waits for the operator to answer.
“What’s your-”
“My girlfriend, please,” he rushes out before the woman can finish, “she’s home alone and she keeps fading in and out of consciousness. I need you to bring someone over to her house please.”
He doesn’t notice how fast he’s speaking until the operator begins to ask him to calm down and repeat himself.
“Do you know any information in regards to her unconsciousness?”
“Yes,” he swallows thickly, “she’s anorexic.”
“What’s the address, sir?”
“168 Williamson Drive.”
“The police are on their way.”
He hangs up with the operator before switching back to Y/n’s contact.
“Y/n, baby, you still there?”
Her body jolts when she hears his voice from the speaker, breath hitching in her throat as she grips onto her phone tighter. She swears, if it isn’t for Harry being on the other line, she would have given up by now. Knowing he’s coming back to her keeps her fighting against her body, which is on the brink of blacking out for God knows how long.
“How much-“ she whimpers as she speaks, eyes slowly closing, “how much longer?”
His eyes wander wildly to the roads ahead of him. He isn’t far from her now, just a couple more turns until he’s in her neighborhood. Working quickly, his foot absentmindedly presses harder against the gas pedal, switching lanes to avoid the cars that are getting in his way.
Shit, baby, you gotta give me five more minutes. I just need a bit more time and I’ll be there with you.”
The five minutes feels like forever.
Between Y/n’s soft crying and Harry’s continuously worried questions, Y/n had already fallen out of consciousness three times. She isn’t positive on how she is able to wake up each time, but she is. Every time she wakes up, Harry is calling her name desperately through the phone, reassuring her that he was going to be there as soon as he possibly can and help make sure she stays safe. However, Y/n is almost completely positive she is going to die. She had put her body through so much for far too long, she doesn’t know how many times her body can keep recovering just to relapse again. Her health was constantly fluctuating between the most drastic lows and highs, there is no possible way it has any more strength to push her through this last fight. There is just no way.
Harry doesn’t have time to turn off his car before he’s rushing toward her front door. His sweating hands slip off the doorknob on his first attempt to open her door, but is quick to rebuttal when he storms inside her house. It’s dark, only a small amount of light illuminating the foyer as his eyes wildly search for her.
She’s collapsed onto the floor. Her skin as pale as he’s ever seen it, her fragile body shivering and shaking against the hardwood floor. Her body looks broken, in a way. It looks lifeless as she helplessly tries to muster any atom in her body to keep fighting for her survival. Her loose clothes didn’t hide how weak her body has become within the past couple of months. There’s still a drastic, evident change in her body frame since he’s last seen her. And if he has to be honest, it makes him feel sick to his stomach, to see the love of his life like this.
And the only thing he can think about is how this is all his fault. He caused all of this, not any of this would be happening if he hadn’t left her the way he did. Instead, they could be getting married, living in their dream home together, cooking on the kitchen stove and listening to their favorite music together. They could be happy together.
But everything is because of him. There is nobody else to blame besides him and his selfishness. He left her, alone, in her most disastrous condition and nothing about what he did is okay, not when she’s like this.
“Baby” he cries, falling to his knees beside her.
He begins to sob as he lifts her up from the floor. He cradles her against him, her head laying perfectly on his chest as his arms wrap security around her waist. He nuzzles his face into her hair, his strong cries raking through him as he holds her tighter against him.
She feels cold, much different than her usual warm touch. She feels so light, too, and so weak as he grabs onto her like she’s his life line.
It’s been too long- way too long since he’s held her so close. It feels as if this is the first time he’s finally able to breathe, to not feel so suffocated in his heartbreak over losing the love of his life. He’s with her now, and maybe not in the best way possible, but he’s with her and it’s the biggest step to help them overcome this. Together.
Her fingers brush against his neck, her cheek rubbing against his chest as she whimpers against him.
Her head spins and her eyes fog as he holds her to him, making it nearly impossible for her to keep up with her consciousness. All she can think is how good it feels, to be with him in her weakest moment. She feels the most alive, even in her time closest to death, being wrapped in his arms and being peppered by his kisses. She feels the safest she’s ever been, and in this moment, for the first time in a while, she truly feels like everything is going to be okay.
“Don’t leave me, please” she whispers, “please don’t leave again.”
His heart breaks when he feels her tears soak through his t-shirt as the words she speaks crack in her voice.
He’d never leave her, never in his wildest dreams would he think about leaving her again. He can’t live another day without her, and he’ll stop at nothing to make sure she gets the ending she deserves.
“Oh, my love” he whimpers, placing a delicate kiss upon her forehead, “I’m so sorry, my love. Help is on its way, okay? You’re with me now, you’re safe. I’ve got you.“
He leans down to kiss her shaking lips, running his hands through her hair as he lets out another broken sob.
“You’re safe now.”
Avengers x reader
A/N: This is my first Avengers imagine/reader insert, so I’m trying to get used to writing them. Otherwise, I like how it turned out for my first try(even though I can point out a list of things I could have done different, or added, but whatever?) Anyways, I hope you enjoy!
It was a typical Friday night for New York City and the Avengers themselves, who resided inside the tower for the night. A thunderstorm raged on outside the tall building, the secure windows of the main lounge area showcasing the pouring rain and occasional lightning strikes outside.
Most of Earth’s mightiest heroes were relaxed in the lounge. The TV was playing a Pixar movie; Steve and Bucky’s eyes glued to the screen. They’ve been going through their list of movies to watch and catch up on and tonight it was the movie UP. It was getting to the emotional bits, so the two super-soldiers’ attention were on the screen.
Clint and Natasha sat near the kitchen, chatting over whatever came to mind. Mostly any interesting or exciting things to happen through the week. Tony and Bruce were in the lab working on their most recent project. Everyone else was either in their rooms or somewhere else around the tower. No one was dumb enough to venture out into the storm.
A ding came from the elevator, catching the attention of the two assassins before its sleek doors slid open to reveal (Y/N).
“Hey, (Y/N), we were wondering when you’d-” Clint shut his mouth after catching a look of their teammate before laughter spilled out of his mouth immediately after.
Stepping out of the elevator, (Y/N) stopped and stared at the hysteric archer, unamused. The girl’s (h/c) locks were plastered to her face, pretty much every inch of her body soaked from the rain outside. “Go ahead, laugh it up,” she grumbled.
“Did I hear- MY FLOORS!” Tony’s distraught cry fueled Clint’s hysteria more but with an elbow to the ribs from Natasha, he shut up. “What happened to you?”,the redhead made her way over to the drenched girl with a small chuckle.
The other two in the room paused their movie to help out, getting towels from the hall closet.
(Y/N) sent a thankful smile their way, putting a towel under her feet as to not ruin Tony’s precious flooring. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see him relax, making her roll her eyes while she dried herself some.
“I was walking home from work when the storm came out of nowhere,” she explained. The girl shifted the towels in her arms, pulling something from underneath her hoodie. “I was almost home when something- or rather someone- called out for help.” With a small smile, she pulled the towels back just in time for a tiny kitten to peak it’s head out.
“Aw!” Natasha cooed, joined by Clint once he walked closer to the group. The group stared at the little bundle of cuteness as it took a look around, curious. The kitten was young, about a few weeks old, a varied colored tabby with big brown eyes.
“This little guy was all alone in al alleyway.” (Y/N) further explained the creatures sad story, stroking its head. “The box he was in was mostly drenched and there wasn’t any other cats or people around so I couldn’t just leave him.”
“He looks healthy,” mumbled Tony, surprisingly taking the cat from (Y/N)’s hands to cradle it awkwardly. “I’ll get Bruce or Vision to take a look at him while you get changed.” (Y/N) couldn’t stop the touched smile that spread on her face.
“Thanks, Tony. That’s really-”
“Just don’t mess up my floors further.” The group all rolled their eyes, going back to their own activities once Tony left.
(Y/N) padded down the hall, warmed up from her shower and in a fresh pair of PJs. She smiled at the growing excitement in her chest at the thought of her new found furry friend.
There were more voices coming from the lounge when (Y/N) got closer. She eventually entered the room, spotting a few more faces that joined everyone on the couches. Bruce, Vision and the Maximoff twins joined in on the fun of gushing over the kitten they found earlier.
“He seems fine,” Bruce shifted the cat in his hands, the little guy now bundled in a small blanket on his lap. “No injuries or any illnesses. A little malnourished from being left outside, but otherwise okay.”
“One lucky little fella!” Pietro petted the kitty, earning a cute little meow. It seems he enjoyed all the attention.
“Thanks again you guys.” (Y/N) slipped in between Bruce and Wanda on the couch, the doctor handing the cat over once she settled. “I was worried no one could let me keep him.”
Well-” Tony raised a finger, about to protest when Bruce sent him a look over his shoulder. He sighed, giving up any further attempt at an argument. “I mean, who could say no to the little guy.”
“Right?” (Y/N) smiled at the cat, picking him up gently to kiss his teeny nose. “You’re just so cute!” He mewed again, the group of heroes laughing at the interaction.
The next day the skies cleared and the sun shined down on the city. The tower was going through its morning routine when excited shouted traveled through its halls.
Guys guys guys!”(Y/N) ran into the kitchen where mostly everyone was seated, eating breakfast. She slid on the tiled floor, a huge smile on her face as she held something behind her back.
“What what what!” Clint cried back, imitating his friend and earning a few collective chuckles from the group. The thrilled hero took out the object from behind her, holding it up for all to see.
The rescued kitten from the previous night sat in her hands, droopy-eyed from waking up. Besides that a little white turtle neck sat snug on his body, roomy enough to be comfortable with small arm holes.
“Oh my gosh, that’s adorable!” Wanda instantly came to their side, forgetting her breakfast to hold the kitten.
“You made that?” Bucky asked, to which (Y/N) nodded proudly. She sat next to him at the bar, taking the mug of (f/d) Tony offered her.
“Yup,” she answered, popping the last syllable. “While he slept. Poor little Leo, I shoved that thing on him right after he woke up.”
At the choice of the kitten’s name, Tony sent her a look, as if to say ‘really?’. “Leo?” (Y/N) simply shrugged. “First name to come to mind.”
“Who is this Leo?” Thor and Loki now entered the kitchen, along with Sam who went over to chat with Steve. He flicked Bucky’s ear on the way which caused a mini slap-fight to follow. (Y/N) ignored the cat fight in the background to address the gods.
“Leo’s a kitten we rescued last night from the storm. He’s now a part of the family~” Loki rolled his eyes and instead of fawning over the cat went in search of coffee. Thor, on the other hand, seemed thrilled, taking Leo from Wanda and into his hands. Leo looked even smaller in the bigger man’s hands but didn’t look phased at all.
Thor brought Leo eye level before speaking to him. “Hello Leo, I am Thor.” Another eye roll from Loki while the others laughed.
A/N: Thanks for reading! I just couldn’t help writing this once the idea popped into my head as I found that picture on Instagram. I hope you enjoyed, and I’d love to read your feedback if you have any! :D Although, I apologize if I don’t have messages set up or something like that. I’m new to Tumblr when it comes to posting and communicating.
Hurt
Where Y/N is in an unhealthy relationship, and Harry helps her realize and understand that she should be treated better.
Sneak Peak:
“You always did like Harry more than a friend should. But then you got into a relationship and you knew your feelings never went away they were just repressed.
But right now it’s like they all came back again in full force, they weren’t hiding anymore.
“Why didn’t you text me back last night. Were my jokes so bad you threw your phone out the window?” He chuckled.
You suddenly frowned remembering last night with Lucas coming home drunk. And everything after that. You didn’t want to think about what happened, because whatever you thought would help didn’t. You woke up feeling shitter then before and Lucas was still being the same, he didn’t change. You were stupid to think that him having sex with you would change that.”
-
I’ll probably do a part two. Tell me if you want that!
————
As soon as you heard the front door shut downstairs you sighed. You looked over at your phone and it was 2am. But what’s new with him coming home late you thought sadly. You hoped he wasn’t in that mood because you certainly weren’t. But that hasn’t stopped him before.
You heard him downstairs in the kitchen probably getting some water to minimize his drunken state. Oh you really hope he wasn’t drinking tonight. So you quickly locked your phone and pretended you were fast asleep. And maybe he would just climb in bed and just fall asleep too.
As you buried your head in the covers, you saw your phone light up. It was a text from Harry, and you grinned.
You always texted each other about random stuff when you couldn’t sleep at night. Harry usually busts out the awful jokes and sends you funny memes to make you smile.
Harry was a great friend and you’ve became even closer ever since you both worked together in the bookstore down the road. Your whole life you never really had a true best friend where you could tell almost everything to, until him. So you were sad you didn’t have time to reply to his text at least to say goodnight.
You laid down in silence for a little. But You didn’t hear him come up the stairs so you decided quickly to maybe send Harry a quick “goodnight text” just so he doesn’t think your not replying. But as soon as you reached for your phone the sound of footsteps stopped you. You quickly brought your hand back to the bed and closed your eyes to look asleep.
The bedroom door opened and you heard him shuffle in. You could already tell he was drunk because you could hear him trip over his feet multiple times as curse words flew out his mouth.
He walked over to the closet to take off his clothes and was left in just his underwear. The bathroom light illuminated and he walked into brush his teeth and do some other things. Usually he would just jump into bed. He never cared to get fully ready for bed if he was drinking.
Maybe he wasn’t you thought, and smiled a little. Maybe he just came home late from work and wasn’t out get pissed drunk. Which made you think that he was getting back to his old self, and that’s who you loved.
The side of the bed dipped and you could feel the warmth of his body come in contact with you. He got himself comfortable on the bed before he slipped his arm around your waist to pull you onto his bare chest. You almost leaned into his touch until he spoke.
“I know your not sleeping.” He said and you could smell the alcohol on his breathe and you cringed.
You didn’t say anything hoping he would just go to sleep and you can all just start off tomorrow morning fresh.
He sighed into the side of your neck, you thought in defeat. But then you felt him slowly start to leave kisses on your neck. While creeping his hand up the shirt your were only wearing which was his.
You thought it would just end there before he fell asleep. But then you felt his hands coming down to your underwear.
“Lucas, I’m really tired.” You finally gave up the act.
He smirked down at you “I knew you weren’t sleeping.” He said while still assaulting your neck.
Your weren’t facing him so he couldn’t see the uneasiness on your face. But that soon changed when he flipped you around to face him. Even in this dim light you could see his blood shot blue eyes and you missed seeing his ocean eyes.
They use to be so clear and beautiful before they were tainted with the red rims that is now part of him most of the days.
“That’s better.” He says to you as he leaned in for a kiss but this time on the lips. You didn’t push him away because you thought this was just a good night kiss. So when you felt his lips connect with yours you brought your hands up to his cheek and kissed him back. It was slow and gentle and you missed this. Just simply kissing him and not doing anything else.
You pulled away from the kiss to lean your head back down on the pillow because in all honesty you were getting tired. But Lucas wasn’t having it.
“Come on Y/N don’t sleep on me yet baby.” He says well placing his hands between your thighs.
“Lucas your drunk…”
“I’m not that drunk” he tells you while his hand still hasn’t moved.
You tried to reason with him. “Babe, I’m just really tired can we just do this another time. Please.” Why are you begging him, you shouldn’t be. Your subconscious told you.
“Come on Y/N, let’s just fuck around for a little bit. We haven’t in a while.” He whines while kissing your cheek.
But you remember the last time you did have sex it was like a week ago. In the car after you left one of your friends birthday parties.
Lucas said he couldn’t keep his eyes and hands off you all night. Which did make you feel pretty. But he literally made you guys leave early because he wanted you right then and wouldn’t wait. You couldn’t really say no when he went behind your back to tell everyone you weren’t feeling well so you left early, which was a lie.
You did want to stay longer, but Lucas insisted that you guys leave. You felt bad for lying but Lucas kept saying it was alright because he was gonna make you feel so good.
He couldn’t even wait until you guys got home.
You remembered he stopped driving and pulled over. Even when you told him that you felt more comfortable if you were at home in your own bed.
But he didn’t listen.
He said how he couldn’t restrain himself any longer and how he had to take you right in that car.
You remembered him saying how if you weren’t so beautiful and sexy that he could of waited.
Like it was your fault.
But he didn’t wait.
You were uncomfortable and not enjoying yourself that whole time he was inside of you, because yet again he put his own needs before yours.
So right now in this moment it felt like the same thing was happening.
“Lucas. I am really tired right now okay?!” You said in a stern voice. You tried to get him to face you so he could see how serious you were. But his face was still on your neck.
“I’ll be quick. Come on… I’ve had a long day at work and you’ve been so busy too. I miss you…” he tells you.
It was those times when he would say things like that, that you think it’s the truth. You hoped it was because you missed him too, but the old him. Maybe things are turning around for the better. But you weren’t sure.
Silence filled the room but you could still hear the sound of his lips on your skin. He moved lower and lower until he got to the rim of your underwear. He didn’t look up for confirmation but at the same time you didn’t stop him.
You have been working a lot so maybe this would make him happy again. Maybe after this he would stop coming home drunk. Maybe You were being to busy with work and everything.
Maybe this was a way to make up for it.
But you didn’t feel good because deep down you knew you didn’t want to be doing this right now.
And after it was over and Lucas pulled out of you and said those three words.
You knew something didn’t feel right.
——-
There were so many new books that arrived today. You could barely keep up with the whole catalogue and making sure you put them on the right shelf.
The book store was packed today probably because of these new books. A lot of them you had to put aside because so many people were calling them to put them on hold before they sold out.
You were humming a tune that’s been stuck in your head for weeks until you heard something behind you.
You turned around a saw a book on the floor. It must of fallen off the cart you thought as you grabbed “Everything Everything” and put it back on the cart.
You then continue with the teen fiction section making sure you put them in the right alphabetical order by the authors last name.
Sometimes you have these brain farts when you can’t remember which letter comes first in the alphabet so you have to start from the beginning and sing the alphabet song.
“A, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i-” suddenly you heard another thud behind you.
You turned around again and saw another book on the ground. But it was down the end of the aisle and it couldn’t be from your cart.
You walked over there and picked it up and placed it back where it belonged. Right when you did that a book on the shelf right beside you fell. You slightly jumped before it could hit your foot.
“What the hell?” You said out loud. You swear if it’s those kids again from a few months ago.
You peaked through the slot where the book had fallen too see who was on the other side pushing the books down.
No one was there you just saw to the other aisle. You sighed in frustration. Maybe it was a ghost-
“BOO!” Harry jumps into your view on the other aisle. You jumped and yelled and hit your head on bookshelf.
“Owww” you touched your forehead but you looked at your fingers and didn’t see blood.
“Oh my gosh!” Harry comes over and starts laughing uncontrollably. “You should of seen your face!”
You tried to look mad at him but it was hard when he looked so cute and happy laughing.
“I swear I didn’t mean for you to hit your head.” He says while still laughing.
“Well I did. And you distracted me from my work, you ass.” You couldn’t keep a straight face anymore and grinned.
“I’m sorry.” Harry pouts. “But I’m not really, after you nearly got me fired last week for setting my phone alarm to go off while I was checking out people! And “I’m sexy and I know it” came on!“
You giggled remembering how embarrassed Harry was as he tried to search for his phone to shut off the alarm as he had a line of customers ready to check out.
“I’ll get you back styles.” You point at him to make yourself look intimidating but it really didn’t.
“I’ll be ready, Love.” He raises his eyebrow and You just shook your head.
“Well the least you could do is help me put these books on the shelf. Especially the ones on the top shelf Mr.Long Legs.”
“Sure thing Ms. Shorty.” He teased.
“Hey!” You went over to the cart and got another book and so did Harry.
You checked the list to make sure you were putting it in the right place. Okay where is the name Hopkins? You thought as you skimmed through the H’s. After you found it you slide the book.
“You know I’m not short your just insanely tall-” you turned around to get another book, when you almost crashed into Harry. He was standing behind you as you you were putting the other book away. While he was putting another book above your head.
You were pretty much trapped between Harry’s frame as his hands were above you looking for the right author.
“Oh so now your trying to trap me?”
Harry looks down on you and smirked.
And suddenly you wanted look at Harry all day. His green eyes were mesmerizing. You tried to look away but when you did you just ended up looking at his pink lips.
You always did like Harry more than a friend should. But then you got into a relationship and you knew your feelings never went away they were just repressed.
But right now it’s like they all came back again in full force, they weren’t hiding anymore.
“Why didn’t you text me back last night. Were my jokes so bad you threw your phone out the window?” He chuckled.
You suddenly frowned remembering last night with Lucas coming home drunk. And everything after that. You didn’t want to think about what happened, because whatever you thought would help didn’t. You woke up feeling shitter then before and Lucas was still being the same, he didn’t change. You were stupid to think that him having sex with you would change that.
“Hey hey.” Harry lifted up your chin to see your sad expression and glossy eyes. “If my jokes were that bad you could just tell me. I promise I won’t be offended, Love.”
You blink away the water in your eyes. “What? No that’s now why. I just fell asleep. I’m sorry and you know I love your cheesy jokes.”
“Ok just making sure.” He pulled away from you and picked up another book.
“Ohh I heard this book was pretty good.” He held up the book “Before I Fall”.
“Me too, they made a movie too and I’ve been dying to see it. It’s kind of mysterious and creepy too.” You explain.
“Yeah but I don’t think it’s in theaters anymore.”
“Aww that’s too bad…” you remember seeing the trailer and maybe wanting to see it but you didn’t have anyone to see it with. Lucas hated doing things like that.
“Maybe you can come over tonight. It’s on my Apple TV and we can watch it together.” Harry offers.
You look up from cataloging to see that Harry was waiting for your answer. You knew your answer already. But your mind suddenly went to your boyfriend. It didn’t matter what he thinks you told yourself. You are just hanging out with a friend and will be done before 11 if he is even home that early.
“I mean if you have other plans I totally understand-.”
“No, I don’t I would love to come.” You say and he smiles.
“Ok I’ll wait for you after your shift is over.”
“I’ll be waiting.” You say as he walks away to finish the rest of the work he had to do.
Now all you were thinking was that you hoped four hours will go by quickly.
———-
“Do you want coke or Pepsi?” Harry yelled from his kitchen.
“Coke definitely!”
A few moments later Harry comes back with two cokes in one hand and a big bowl of popcorn in another.
He handed you a coke and said,“ your a coke girl, my favorite kind” he said jokingly and you giggled.
He also brought a big blanket down from upstairs. When it was time to sit and watch the movie Harry sat down right next to you barely leaving any room between you too. He layed out the blanket over your bodies and put the popcorn between you two.
It was now about seven o'clock and the sun was setting soon. But Harry’s apartment was so cozy and homey. You loved coming over here.
Harry pressed play and the movie started. As the movie was rolling Harry kept asking questions and making commentary that made you laugh.
“Why would she do that-”
“Harry be quiet this is the good part.” You placed your hand over his mouth and he licked your hand making you pull away and wipe your hand on your shirt.
“Your such a child!”
But then Harry hushed you to be quiet because the climax of the movie was happening.
When the movie ended you guys decided to watch The Notebook. It was Harry’s idea actually but you loved the movie too.
As the movie progressed. Your eyes began to get droopy but you tried fighting it. But you barely got any sleep last night.
So when you placed your head on Harry’s shoulder you fell into a deep sleep.
——-
The sound of a phone ringing woke you up. Your eyes were still closed as you grabbed your phone from your pocket and answered.
“Hello?” You said with you groggy voice.
“Y/N, where the fuck are you?!” Lucas’ voice boomed from the line.
Your eyes flew open. You were confused where you were for a second. But you took in your state as your laying in Harry’s lap as he’s fast asleep next to you practically holding you. You looked at your phone to see the time, and when it read 1am you nearly had a heart attack.
Holy Fuck.
“I’m so-rry. I’m at a friends and we were watching a movie and I accidentally fell asleep. I lost track of time.”
“Where are you? Send me the address I’m picking you up.” He demanded.
“No, it’s ok. I’m leaving right now. I swear you don’t need to come.” You tried no calm yourself from panicking.
“I swear to fucking god Y/N, if your not hear in a fucking 30 minutes I will-”
“I’ll be there, I promise I’m leaving right now. I’m sorry. I love you bye.” Lucas hangs up on you without saying anything.
“Is everything alright?” Harry yawns beside you. Making you realize that you were still very close to him. “Who was that? You got up quickly and started gathering your stuff.
“I have to go. I should of been home awhile ago. Lucas is worried” You frantically look for your other shoe as Harry watched you.
Harry knew who Lucas was, he met him a few times when they started dating. But he always gave him a weird vibe.
“Oh crap it is 1am. We slept for awhile did we?”
“Yeah.”
“That was the best nap I’ve ever taken. Your very warm and cozy Y/N like a pillow.” Harry said randomly.
Your stomach did a weird flip after Harry said that. You looked over at him with his hair a little messy from sleeping, and looked adorable.
You wanted to go back to the couch and let him hold you again.
“Let me at least drive you home.” Harry offered getting up from the coach.
“Of no you’ve done so much already. It’s fine I can walk.” You said too quickly.
“Absolutely not Y/N it’s 1am. What kind of friend would I be if I let my pretty friend walk home at night.”
Pretty….
“No way, at least let me call you an uber?”
“Ok.”
The uber arrived 7 minutes later. As soon as you saw there headlights you went to the door.
“Hey I don’t even get a goodbye hug?” Harry pouted.
You smiled and turned back around and Harry wrapped his hands around your waist pulling you closer to him.
“Text me when your home safe.” Harry whispers in your ear and you just nod. You didn’t want to leave but when Harry pulled away you knew you had to go.
But all you wanted was to back in Harry’s arms.
