Woodzy presents #TouchWood Launch Party
Date: Thurs. Nov 14th 2013
Venue: Scream Lounge, Croydon

‘It’s all good,’ is the lyrical motif that opens Woodzy’s much-anticipated third mixtape ‘Touchwood’. In retrospect the word ‘good’ is an understatement, especially when considering the quality of the awesome launch event he delivered last Thursday at Scream Lounge, Croydon.

For this auspicious occasion Woodzy brought us back to the place where it all began for him. Oozing with confidence, the IITS associate put his event management skills to good use, programming a wealth of talent to open the evening. Without fear of being overshadowed, the generous lyricist shone the spotlight on some of the freshest new unsigned talent around. DeeRiginal boasted bodacious bars, Notts star Garton and Kid Verbal assaulted the mic with agile wordplay, and elsewhere OSD dropped heavyweight beats and bars. However, not even the notable notes from guest indie act Jovian could take away the anticipation building up around Woodzy’s headline performance.

Once host Fusion finished working up the crowd, it was time for the Surrey-born b-boy to put in an appearance. Woodzy controlled the stage, with a confidence and self-assured swagger that hyped the fans gathered in the intimate venue, as they got behind the natural-born performer.

Backed by an amazing band, comprising of uber talented music teachers, peers and long time collaborator G-Dog, Woodzy rocked out, as he rolled through a variety of songs from the mixtape. Throughout the set, Woodzy’s band and backing vocalist showed incredible ability on all levels.

As a body of work, ‘Touch Wood’ didn’t disappoint. The release offered listeners a new, deeper perspective on the upcoming MC. His lyrical ability is more than evident on ‘Bars on Bars’ and ‘Irrelevant Interlude’, but there is also room for more emotional material on this outing, as demonstrated on ‘Señorita’ and the introspective ‘Morning Rain’.

Over the next few months ‘Touch Wood’ will be doing the rounds on the streets, clubs and mixtape sites. Industry in the Streets will of course be first on the scene to keep you up on Woodzy’ progress. We’re very excited about where he can take it.

Best of luck to our boy Woodzy… on second thoughts ‘touchwood’, he won’t need any. If there’s any justice, tenacity and natural talent will prevail.

Good evening everyone, hope you’re enjoying the sunny weather in London as you should be. We just wanted to let you know how our show on Friday went down in words rather than the pictures & videos you have probably seen already. Richmix venue I must say is spectacular in comparison to the other venues in terms of the size of the stage and the quality of the sound, which sounded very smooth and clean-cut. Just before we went on the stage we did a prayer as we normally do as a group and hoped for the best. It wasnt an amazing turn out in terms of the audience capacity however there were a crowd and on the come up that’s all that really counts aslong as it aint only people that have already heard your music there, right?. We did Church, Avoid and Celtics in that exact order. It was the first time we had performed Avoid so for a first time it went great with no apparent hiccups in the performance. Celtics and Church did what it always does and created a buzzing atmospehere for everyone involved. I would like to thank Jake(Woodzy) who asked us to perform at this first event and another thank you to who ever came down to support Knighthood. We’ve got a few exciting things coming up so please stayed tuned in on our journey… Nicki.

WOODZY  "Morning Rainfall"

#GnG are loving this chilled new summer tune from the talented 21 year old Woodzy. This Brit school rapper from South East of England, is set to follow in the footsteps of former hard-hitter graduates such as: Leona Lewis, Adele, Jessie J, Bashy, Rizzle Kicks and more..

We respect the grafters and Woodzy has already peppered up his CV with BBC 1Xtra,working with Tinchy Stryder and Maverick Sabre and opening for the likes of Cover Drive, Ghetts, Angel, Mic Righteous, Griminal amongst others.

Keep your eye on this dude, he is going places.

Following on from Woodzy’s awesome launch party in November, Industry in the Streets brings you news of the prolific lyricist’s new documentary suitably titled the ‘Woodzymentary’ (released January 17th).

The IITS associate teamed up with HBMedia to deliver a 24min film consisting of interviews with our very own MD Fusion, G Dog from Elevated Records, affiliated artists and of course Woodzy himself. If his current mixtape TouchWood has placed him in the spotlight, the documentary gives insight into his unique journey.

The entertaining film follows the likeable lyricists as he prepares for his ultimate gig. Along the way he introduces us to a range of personalities including hungry new artists, talented producers, childhood mates and even his former school teacher. Somehow his relentless pursuit of success inspires others to support him and strive to achieve their own goals. Have a look for yourself…his motivation to make it happen might even rub off on you.

You can download the mixtape on iTunes and follow his further adventures @woodzyofficial.

The unique Rainbow Trout on this reclaimed wood bench was painted by artist Robert R. Norman, whose fish benches can be seen at Bass Pro Shops around the US. The frame of the bench is made of 2x4 studs that were salvaged from a local building that was damaged in a storm; the seat boards were reclaimed from floor boards torn out during the renovation of an historic building in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The wood is kiln-dried, sanded, and then finished with a mixture of linseed oil and turpentine, a totally plant-based product that penetrates and enriches the wood. Dimensions: 53 1/2” W x 22 1/2” D x 34” T, approximately 82 lbs.

I’m a big fan of anybody who has the passion and ambition to be a winner. Enter Woodyz - a talented emcee and leading force in the events management class I teach. I’ve supported his ambitions to break into the industry for some time now. So, when he entered Adidas’ Take The Stage competition to support Wretch 32 on tour, I had to get behind the movement. Have a listen to his entry ‘Time For A Change’ and if you feel he has what it takes to move the crowd, click here and register your vote. Polls close on Sunday 20th May so what are you waiting for?
