Bowes Castle
County Durham, England by woodytyke

Dating back to the 12th century, Bowes Castle sits on the site of an earlier Roman fort. Following the Revolt of 1173-1174 the castle underwent major renovations under the orders of Henry II. The King considered the castle to be strategically important in the defense against future Scottish invasion.
