wooden unit

If this is helpful to any Supergirl writers, I mapped out Kara’s loft for my own purposes. Feel free to use to your heart’s content to assist with writing and/or squeeing.

A= These two sets of windows open like french doors.

B= These three sets of windows have sections that angle out for air circulation.

C= Front door is extra wide, estimated 4’. Opens inward.

D= Laundry area with a stacked washer/dryer to the right, and a portable screen to the left. There is a big air-conditioning duct that leads to a weird alcove/cutaway at ceiling level perhaps indicating a mechanicals space on the other side of the wall.

E= Kitchen and island.

F= The access hall outside has been seen from the interior, revealing a narrow table and another of the ubiquitous concrete support columns. A behind the scenes photo revealed another doorway, flanked by columns with an inward-opening door.

G= the small line here represents a fancy mesh screen that separates the dining area from the rest of the living space.

H= Café table. Just above this is Kara’s painting space.

I= Couch and two comfy chairs. Just above this is where the TV is located. There is also a low, square table on wheels.

J= Queen sized bed. Just above is the largest banks of windows, where the double rack of clothes are located, as well as a dresser between. (doesn’t Kara worry about her clothes fading from the sunlight?) There are  a pair of bed stands as well as a chair near to the window. At the foot of the bed is a deep seat that looks a lot like a miniature daybed.

K= There is a desk of art supplies here, as well as a vintage typewriter and rotary phone, as well as an old dresser.

L= This is a weird one. In a behind the scenes shot, there is clearly an alcove/hallway with a curtain and a closet rod with more clothes hanging from it.

M= Claw foot tub and a single sink.

N= the dashed lines are two wooden storage units. There’s a lamp in the corner too. I have NO idea where the toilet is in this room.

O= Bathroom door is the same large-paned window glass as the exterior windows, flanked by a single vertical row of panes.

P= The little rectangle below and above are bookshelves that also act as separation from living to bedroom space. There is also a curtain for privacy. I can only guess that it has a double on the other side, but who knows.

Q= A blue storage unit. There’s also a big potted plant in the corner nearby.

Grid scale is 1 square foot for each blue square. Yes, this loft really is that huge!

The ceilings are approximately 15’, though in the apartment itself, there are heavy support beams that make it seem slightly lower in places.

Walls inked are canon to photographs gleaned from the net, both from productions stills and a very helpful behind the scenes tour. Pencil lines of walls are best guesses from yours truly.

My collection is on fire...cracker (paint that is).

No new additions to the collection to report but I thought it was a good bookmark to add to this journey that I make mention of the fact that Missy and I finally got around to painting my collection shelves.

The shelves themselves (though sturdy) are nothing special; just a standard wooden adjustable shelving unit.  I don’t know where they came from originally but I went to my local Habitat for Humanity home store several months back and found them there.  The nice thing about them is that the shelf adjustments run almost the entire interior height so setting up to your specific collection is really easy.  The price was right so I picked up two identical ones with enough extra shelves so that I could house my entire collection on them.  The only addendum I made to them was to put header boards on the top of both with hinges for both a hidden compartment and something to put a marquee type display onto.

Even though they were a neutral wood color I didn’t feel like they would do justice to my NES cartridges.  After some deliberation, I chose a red color that I think brings out the collection. The hue I went with was a bold red color in the name Firecracker.  It made me think of the fireballs from the original Super Mario Bros game and fit with the color scheme of the Nintendo logo.

Moving the games off of the shelf (and preserve the alphabetical order scheme) was a challenge in itself.  Seeing them piled all willy nilly on another surface makes one realize how much they deserve to be on an organized shelf.

I wish I could take credit for the amazing paint work but that was all my wonderful wife.  I mugged it up for the camera and did a few takes like Daniel-san in the Karate Kid…  “up, down, up down, side to side, breathe in, breathe out.  Missy had to come in after and fix all of my mistakes.

The last steps involved a few coats of white paint for the headers and then printing out some Nintendo-related graphics for the top of the display.  It was remarkable how the prints and the paint are almost identical in shade. It is really difficult to tell that the prints are separate from the wood as they look almost etched in.  I am so happy with how it turned out.

Sooooo... I binge-watched GLOW in one day. And I regret nothing.

I really enjoyed the first season of GLOW on Netflix and I’m happy to see that it’s been getting a lot of positive feedback and support around the internet. I guess I shouldn’t be too shocked since the series was produced by the same team who created Orange is the New Black, but since I don’t watch that show, I didn’t have any real expectations for it to be as good as it was.

Overall, I thought it was incredibly well done, and like I said in an earlier post, I think it’s great how most of the episodes were directed by women. I only saw a couple of douchebags on the internet say something negative that was on par with your typical misogyny.

Anyways, here are my thoughts as I watched the show and failed to talk myself out of watching 8 of the episodes in a row with no break. The list below isn’t in any particular order.

Beware: Mild spoilers below.

'THIS IS WAR!' One killed as car ploughs into counter-protesters as violence flares at white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, as police helicopter crashes in a fireball

The Dodge pictured starting its deadly rampage SHOCKING footage shows a rampaging car ploughing into a crowd of sign-carrying counter-protesters during a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, today, killing a 32-year-old woman and injuring many more.

A total of three people have been confirmed dead in the violence, with at least 35 more hurt.

A police helicopter also crashed seven miles southwest of Charloteesville, killing two, though it is not clear if the crash is related to the protests or if those two deaths were included in the death toll provided by local officials.

A state official has confirmed that the driver of the Dodge Challenger which carried out the deadly attack on protesters has been arrested.

The disturbing video shows the Dodge ramming into the back of a Toyota resulting in a woman being thrown on top of the Japanese-made vehicle while others lie crumpled on the street screaming in pain.

Another video has emerged showing the rogue car accelerating towards the crowd before smashing into the demonstrators and the white Toyota.

“Charlottesville Police and Virginia State Police are on the scene of a three vehicle accident” said authorities in a statement. “Multiple injuries are reported.”

A witness said a dozen people had been hurt in the collision - which he called “intentional” - saying one girl got “tore up” after the car “backed up and they hit again.”

He said the dark car “raced down here, jumped over the speed bumps and it backed up and it hit everyone again.”

“There was a girl that was on the ground; she was trying to get up,” he added.

President Donald Trump has spoken following the deadly car attack condemning the violence “on many sides.”

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides,” Trump said from Bedminster, New Jersey, where he is on a working vacation.

“The hate and the division must stop right now,” he said. “We have to come together as Americans with love for our nation.”

Terry McAuliffe, the Governor of Virginia said: “I have a message to all the white supremacists and the Nazis who came into Charlottesville today… go home.”

“There is no place for you here. There is no place for you in America,” he said.

White supremacists armed with rifles, shields and helmets clashed with counter protesters at the Unite the Right rally today despite a state of emergency being declared after the first violent clashes last night, when the far-right demonstrators marched on the University of Virginia wielding wooden torches.

Organisers of the Unite the Right rally claim that white people in America are being persecuted and that white history is being erased from the American identity.

They could be heard chanting racist slogans including one belonging to the Nazis using the words “blood and soil”.

Marchers were met by counter-protesters at the statue of Thomas Jefferson - the university’s founder and third president of the United States.
