women are people but feminists aren't

the moon’s breath

As if you were on fire from within / The moon lives in the lining of your skin.
– Pablo Neruda

they say that people like me

have too many empty spaces, that
we spend our lives trying to fill them but

let me tell you about my body, tell you
how it waxes and wanes like the moon
breathes every twenty-nine days and

shines a different way each week of the
month. there are days when my womb burns
with the fire of the sun and you will only
sometimes see it in my face, only when
the angles of moon, sun, and earth are just

right. they say that people like me
have too many empty spaces, that we
bleed because we are not whole. they
don’t know that the moon lives in the
lining of our skin.

So we now have an Equalities minister and a Minister for Women and Equalities who both voted against same-sex marriage, an (able-bodied) Minister for Disabled People who has consistently voted to cut disability benefits and is against human rights, and a Minister for Justice who thinks the only oppressed group in the UK is men who get a “raw deal” “from the cradle to the grave”, and that feminists are “obnoxious bigots”, and is also against human rights and anti-discrimination measures.
