Portrait of Madeline Brewer as Janine/Ofwarren from The Handmaid’s Tale. I adore the show so much and encourage anyone to watch it 💜🌸 And to read the book! I’m making a series of portraits of characters from the show, in which the christian symbols/symbols tied to christianity & religion in the background work ambiguously. On one hand, they represent Gilead’s oppression. On the other hand, they represent each woman’s inner strength and defiance.

A Strong Woman Vs. A Woman Of Strength

- Poem by Luke Easter

A strong woman works out every day,
Pride in her appearance she portrays,
But a woman of strength kneels to pray,
Her soul in shape, God leading the way.

A strong woman claims she isn’t afraid of anything,
Looking forward to challenges each day will bring,
Women of strength show courage in the midst of fear,
Declaring triumph through faith because God is near.

Strong women won’t let anyone get the best of them,
So skilled in defenses even if they have to pretend,
Yet a woman of strength gives her best to everyone,
And even on a cloud filled day still bright as the sun.

A strong woman relies on the physical attributes making her tough,
In her search for power and money she will never have enough,
A woman of strength understands that it’s not about material stuff,
Knowing that before becoming a diamond first she’ll be in the rough.

A strong woman sometimes disguises her feelings shadowed by clouds,
Unhinged when challenged on her policy becoming boisterous and loud,
A woman of strength concerns herself not with judgment from others,
And will not let business interfere with commitments as a wife and mother.

A strong woman is easily impatient back and forth she will begin to pace,
Counting on her holier than thou attitude instead of depending on faith,
A woman of strength is assured trust in God will always carry her through,
And at the Creator’s appointed time she’ll receive all that is justly due.

A strong woman makes mistakes and avoids the same for tomorrow,
Refusing to take time looking back with reverence and Godly sorrow,
The woman of strength realizes life’s mistakes no matter how slim,
While thanking God for the blessings as she capitalizes on them.

A strong woman walks head first with no doubt in her mind,
No matter what, she’ll not make this mistake a second time,
But a woman of strength knows God will catch her when she falls,
So when a situation arises again, she’s not afraid to answer the call.

A strong woman wears the look of confidence on her face,
Always doing whatever it takes to finish, seeking only first place,
The woman of strength competes with an emotional sense of grace,
Understanding it’s more important to run a Holy Spirit filled race.

A strong woman has faith that for the journey she’ll have enough,
No matter how uneven the terrain or roads being rocky and rough,
A woman of strength knows it’s in the journey she will become strong,
And the love of God is forever with her, no matter how difficult or long.

A strong woman when uninformed thinks that she is being mistreated,
In the end her physical attributes fail causing doubt to become seeded,
A woman of strength will compromise as a little give and take is needed,
Why? Because a lesson not learned the first time is soon to be repeated.

Ladies start everyday on your knees with supplication & prayer,
Trust and believe that God will always get you from here to there,
And should your giant steps seem to be moving only inch by inch,
The journey is not as A Strong Woman but A Woman Of Strength.

Realize his-story is not the preverbal or only meaning of the word history,
Read the poem titled, ‘Women Preachers & Pastors In The Ministry? ’
This male chauvinistic attitude’s deceitfully titled, 'The Same Old Song, ’
No wonder society thinks a woman can’t compete & this is totally wrong.

Difference between farther & further,1 is distance,1 is to understand,
Where Motherhood is instinctive however it has to be learned by man,
A woman carries a life form up to & maybe more than 9 months long,
Man can’t stand to be with a crying for baby 2 hours and he is strong?

It is thousands of years later, man still cries, 'first the woman was deceived, ’
As Adam looked at God and said, 'it was that woman you gave me’ oh Eve?
It always happens that when things go wrong we are quick to pass the blame?
Sin didn’t manifest till Adam ate the fruit as well but he put it on Eve’s name.

Every woman is a catalyst for any little girl to become the same,
So the question is what will be the consequences from her name?
Strong relays an outward appearance yet under pressure it cracks,
And only through strength will she be able to withstand the attack.

Girls beware, because the road traveled is both winding and long,
And for this very reason you will surely have to more than strong,
This should inform you that an arduous trek is measured in length,
The main reason it takes intestinal fortitude only found in strength.

Now for an excellent example relaying exactly what we mean,
The United States Marine Corps, 'Female Engagement Team, ’
Women in Afghanistan not in rear support yet on the front line,
Not so much physically strong as through strength in the mind.

Isn’t it amazing disciples from miraculous powers were big and strong,
Peter cut off a servant’s ear but denied Christ 3 times it didn’t last long,
Yet two Mary’s and Salome the weaker sex faithfully stood by at length,
Face to face with adversity you will only pass through fire with strength.

Blacks sat in the back of the bus for years although it was wrong,
Now imagine how many men complied who were big and Strong,
But, it was a female, Rosa Parks, who would not budge one inch,
Yet another example of what it means for women to have Strength.

Certain things capture your eye but pursue only those that capture the heart,
Although an, 'Ancient Indian Proverb’ yet Solomon gave the verse its start,
Likewise, don’t seek after frivols material things that only make you Strong,
For Strength is the seed of eternal roots to remain even after you’re gone.

The association of motherhood is something truly unique,
And only through inner Strength can you reach your peak,
As the Strongest will tire from repetitions they must repeat,
Because the latter without proper rest is destined to be weak.

Imagine how tough women have to be not just bearing and raising their child,
While at the same time many have to control their spouse from running wild,
A single or married mom with a tight knit family that’s united for any length,
Not so much from a Strong Woman as it is through, 'A Woman Of Strength.’

With all the aforementioned qualifications it is a mystery,
Why many believe women should not preach in the ministry,
Birth, feed, raise, clothe and impact men with knowledge,
Of a multitude of wisdom they’ll never receive in college.

This poetic tribute is a, 'Shout-Out’ to any woman everywhere,
Seemingly impossible circumstances faced head on the scare,
By the armor of faith fear of the unknown shall not make a dent,
They are withstanding not by outward Strong but inner Strength.

The infinity symbol above the woman’s head indicates a spiritual nature. The woman represents inner strength. The lion symbolises courage, passion, and desire, as well as our wild nature while the woman represents kindness and compassion, the ingredients to inner strength. Her white robe symbolises the higher feminine aspect of the soul. The crown and belt made out of roses a symbol of love and the calm nature of the woman’s spirit. The mountain in the background represents stability and loyalty, the distant goal that will be accomplished through effort and patience.

Wonho as one of Tarot Card - Strenght. What do you think? Was it a good choice or not? His look is based on the one from teaser photos for Beautiful. I’m thinking about making drawings like this of each member but idk

I’m such a mess bc of the news about their comeback cri

She,
In the dark,
Found light
Brighter than many ever see.

She,
Within herself,
Found loveliness,
Through the soul’s own mastery.

And now the world receives
From her dower:
The message of strength
Of inner power.

*Requested By Lisa - Daryl Free Reason Carol Will Live (I hope this is what you hoped for)

The Walking Dead is a phenomenal character driven drama and a beautifully executed social experiment about humanity on the edge BUT the TPTB in both the award and critic circles still categorizes it as “zombie” show nestled awkwardly in the horror genre of television.

The EMMY Campaign and its slogan “Something Human” in Season 4 was a solid attempt to try and dispel or at the very least minimize the “stigma” of that classification with the academy.

TWD fans know that while “zombies” obviously come into play, it’s the human personal elements that make both the story and its characters come to life BUT then again we are not the ones the show-runners and AMC want to convince.

While the entire cast delivers great work and their individual journeys are certainly compelling, the one character and that characters path, recognized and praised in the mainstream award circuit has been the wonder that is Carol Peletier, herself.

Hers is a story of true transformation and inspirational re-discovery of strength, gumption and stead-fast determination needed to survive everything life before and after the apocalypse had thrown at her.

From a showrunner perspective Carol’s story is one to be lauded, flaunted and pushed through as much as possible because the way it is told today, it’s heart has crossed the boundaries a horror genre assumedly isn’t able to deliver.

Carol has essentially become a beacon of hope and someone whose own perseverance to keep going, has made her personal journey relatable to “all survivors” and not just ones battling zombies on screen.

Scott Gimple and Robert Kirkman created Carol just as they did the others BUT she is the only one whose character growth has managed to cross the boundaries of the “horror” cliche and actually resonate with both the critics and the general audience.

The “Something Human” campaign was driven by Carol and The Grove, which coupled with her critically acclaimed portrayal of a woman finding her inner strength, makes Melissa McBride and her talent one of the TWD best assets.

Especially if it’s awards you are after. And “No Sanctuary”, “Consumed” and that “Cookie Scene” are already being talked about.

Carol Peletier is a symbol for those outside TWD world - her story has become bigger than who she is and much bigger than any “gory death” or point someone wants to make.

She is the one the audience most connects with on a human level and coupled with Melissa’s own outrageously amazing talent, Carol is their best chance of making a mark in the mainstream critic field.

Andrew Lincoln said he came to the U.S. to work with actors of Melissa’s caliber and Scott Gimple couldn’t be more of a Carol “fan boy” if he tried.

She has been called their “secret weapon”, the show’s “superhero” and so good at her craft that she must be an “alien”

We’ve heard her singled out repeatedly by the main cast, the show-runners, the new characters and even the supporting cast who haven’t even shared a single scene with her.

Surely AMC and TWD know what they have and what they don’t want to lose just yet.

Carol will live because as one of the biggest inspirational transformations on TWD, Carol’s death will not downgraded to the status of a sacrificial lamb, nor will she die at another abuser’s hands AND she certainly won’t die as casualty of Ricks torrid love affair.

That kind of death would not just be offensive to the audience already deeply emotionally invested in Carol’s story BUT would also essentially tarnish the empowerment of Carol’s journey and make it once again about a MAN and what is best for HIS happiness.

After all the care TWD has put in her character and after they’ve witnessed exactly what she symbolizes for battered women and survivors as whole, I can’t help but think that her death will be given a lot more care and attention than to allow it to be perceived as yet another woman going down because of man pain.

Carol is a survivor and she will survive this too…Because she simply isn’t done!

One of my favorite SM blogs recently responded to a question about what they would request as a drawing from Naoko if given the chance. They responded that they’d love to see an intimate/sexual scene between Usagi and Mamoru.

Cue a ton of, “Wait, aren’t you a feminist?! You’re objectifying! Asking for porn is wrong!”.

Something that confuses me is the idea that there is this invisible line in the sand in terms of what a fan should and should not be allowed to see in their fandom.

We see incredibly private moments throughout the entirety of the SM series. These moments are emotion based, but they are, in my opinion, no less private than sex is. Yet there seems to be this idea that knowing someone intimately in that way is somehow less invasive.

There are things you learn, without words, by understanding how someone is in a sexual situation. It gives you insight and it shows you a side of them that, as a reader, makes you closer to that character.

Beyond that, we already know they are shaking the sheets together and that is TOTALLY FINE because they are both consenting individuals who are deeply, madly in love.

Feminism is not about a superior gender/putting down men/hating men or the vilification of hetero sex. It is the (what should be simple) idea that EVERYONE deserves to be treated fairly while pursuing whatever it is they want out of their life. That’s it, it’s being equal.

The Sailor Moon fandom frequently disappoints me because it’s like all the messages that are so clearly laid out to be absorbed are ignored.

Sailor Moon is about(among other things):

  • The trials of growing from a girl into a woman
  • Finding your inner strength
  • Friendship
  • Strength that comes from friendship
  • The powers of love, compassion and hope
  • FORGIVENESS
  • Confidence and acceptance in who you are as well as others
  • Hard choices
  • Holding onto your dreams

Sailor Moon is NOT about(among other things):

  • Judging people for taking joy in something you do not
  • Bullying
  • Pissing contests about whose is bigger

The TLDR; of this is that if you don’t like sexual scenes and/or straight up porn in your fandom enjoyment, that is totally fine. It is ALSO totally fine if you are someone who greatly enjoys that and there is no shame in it. It does not make someone a bad person for enjoying that aspect of the characters. If we are going to accept them as people and treat them as such then we have to accept that they do all the same things we do, and that includes sex.

And that, dear readers, is my potentially nonsensical rant for the day.

Reason 101 Why Carol Is Not Going To Die!

Surely AMC and TWD know what they have and what they don’t want to lose just yet.

Shipper or not, the fact that the show continuously uses CARYL as a marketing and a promotional tool is hard not to notice. Romantic or platonic, their dynamic and chemistry is powerful enough to make people want to see them in whatever way they can and for that reason alone their relationship has essentially become an integral part of TWD as a whole.

Killing Carol eliminates CARYL and that’s a mighty big chip to lose - especially now that Carol is at her own peak of popularity.

Eliminating CARYL has the huge potential of harming Daryl’s character as well who has certainly benefited by that pairing no matter how he himself tends to perceive it.

None of this guarantees that she will survive FOREVER! This the Walking Dead after all!
However it is my personal opinion that when the time comes for Carol to indeed “die”, her death will only come only after her story is completely used up and there is zero direction for the show-runners to find for her future journeys.

That’s not today.

Carol will live because as one of the biggest inspirational transformations on TWD, Carol’s death will not downgraded to the status of a sacrificial lamb, to give a ship, whose appropriateness alone is questionable, a chance to take to sail.

That kind of death would not just be offensive to the audience already deeply emotionally invested in Carol’s story BUT would also essentially tarnish the empowerment of Carol’s journey and make it once again about a MAN and what is best for HIS happiness.

After all the care TWD has put in her character and after they’ve witnessed exactly what she symbolizes for battered women and survivors as whole, I can’t help but think that her death will be given a lot more care and attention than to allow it to be perceived as a casualty to a sick “love triangle” that was never meant to see the light of day in the first place.

Carol is a survivor and she will survive tonight…I can’t help but be sure of it!
