witches den

It’s finally finished! I’ve been working on this for a week and I’ve loved every second of it.
I needed a good excuse to really get the hang of Clip Studio Paint and I wanted to make a big background-heavy piece again. This setting worked perfectly for that.

I recently saw this video by @hewhois and I got instantly inspired. It made me want to draw a modern male witch in his private den. I loved the peace and comfort that the video emitted and I did my very best to create a similar feeling. It’s so difficult to capture a very specific mood, but I hope I succeeded!

Once back at the tower after your daring rescue you found Noah playing with the team and smiled, relieved, knowing he was safe again. As you let your hair out of the ponytail that had kept your vision free Clint looked up to you, walking over silently in hopes to not alert Noah you were back yet.

“Why didn’t you tell us? We probably could have avoid this.” Clint asked in a low tone once he was close enough for you to hear.

You raised a confused brow. “What do you mean?”

Clint smiled proudly as he pulled out his wallet, showing you a picture of Laura and their three children. “You aren’t the only one who goes home on weekends… If you want, we have two spare guest rooms that can have Noah’s and your names written all over them.”

“Mommy!” Noah cried finally noticing that you were back, jumping up from a game of ‘beat up Steve’ to run to give you a hug.

“Baby!” You answered in a tone to match his, scooping him up. “”Did you have fun riding on Pietro’s back?” You asked with a smile. He nodded excitedly which caused your smile to grow. “Thank you Clint…If Noah’s father was still alive I’d take you up on that.” You paused, shifting Noah to rest him on your hip bone. “But we are the only family we have…”

“That’s not true…Stop lying to the boy.” Tony said, still in his Ironman suit, just his face showing. “We’re your family.” He said with a smile. “And we have plenty of room here if you’d want somewhere more secure to live.”

Noah’s eyes went wide with excitement hearing this. “Can we mom?! Please!” You chuckled, resting your forehead against Noah’s with a smile ear to ear before agreeing that might be a good idea.

“Well the offer still stands if you ever change your mind.” Clint reassured as he watched the two of you, missing his children now.

“Wait…Where’s Pietro?!” You asked, suddenly realizing there was no blue blur running around the room or Sokovian accent trying to get you on a date.

“He’s in the infirmary.” Steve said softly as he rose from the floor, now safe from Noah’s little fists. “He took a  bullet for little Noah here…It wasn’t anything serious, he should be up and around by morning, but for now we have him sedated for the pain.”

“What?!” Your eyes went wide with worry, looking over every inch of Noah to find that there wasn’t a scratch on him. “Baby, you stay and play with your new friends…Mommy has something to take care of.” You said lightly as you set Noah down, becoming aware of Bucky’s metal arm disappearing into the elevator out of the corner of your eye. You let out a sigh, giving up on the two of you as you rose. Nat kindly allowed you to borrow some clothing so that you could change out of your combat suit and you disappeared out the front door, and for the first time you felt truly safe leaving Noah. A weight had been lifted.

You returned to the tower not long after with a bag, finding that Clint had put Noah to bed in one of the spare rooms, and that Tony was busy programing FRIDAY with child restrictions so that the little guy couldn’t get anywhere he wasn’t supposed to. You made your way into the infirmary and pulled up a seat by the sleeping Pietro. You took a good hard look at him, a smile creeping onto your face as you pushed his silver strands of hair off his brow. If there was one thing you knew that Pietro didn’t like it was getting shot, especially after Ultron. You reached into your bag and pulled out two pints of of (your favorite ice cream), you placed them both on the small table by his bed before planting a soft gentle kiss on his temple. The Sokovian stirred under your touch, letting out a soft moan as his silvery blue eyes fluttered open. You’ve never seen them this close before…they were stunning!

“Domnita?” He looked up to you with a questioning tone as you pulled yourself away from his face. He wasn’t sure if he was dreaming or in heaven but he was sure this couldn’t be real. “Este aceasta un vis? Arăți atât de frumos.” (Is this a dream? You look beautiful) He mumbled in his native tongue as he reached a hand up to stroke your cheek softly, to confirm that you were really there. Having no idea what he actually said you just chuckled, removing his hand from your face slowly. You never heard him actually speak just Sokovian before, you didn’t know what he said but he sure sounded good saying it, enough so to cause a soft blush to form. “I must be dreaming…To make you blush…” He tried to joke but what he had taken for the pain made him sound more shaky and weak, his English so heavily accented you almost didn’t understand it. “Your little Copil, he is safe?”

You just smiled down to him and took his hand with a soft nod. “Yes, he is. Thank you Pietro…” Was all you could think to say.

“Oh…Domnita…” His strong hand came to cup the side of your head lightly. “You do everything for us. But you don’t realize I’d do anything for you.” He sounded loopy his accent heavy, and you couldn’t help laughing at the half drugged look on his scruffy face.

“I’m starting to get the idea…But for now-” You paused as you gently helped him up into a seated position before handing him a spoon. He looked up at you confused taking it as he began to start regaining full control over himself.

The confused expression subsided into a smile as you held up his pint of the ice cream and he let out a shallow chuckle, holding onto the bullet hole in his shoulder as he did. “I thought we were going out for the ice cream.” He flashed you a shy smile as he took the pint.

“Well…Noah’s in bed, and you’re bleeding so I figured a night in would be a nice start.” You smiled to him sweetly, digging into your ice cream, finding it well needed after such a long day.

“Start?” He asked as he began working at his ice cream as well. “Start to what?” His silvery blue orbs looking up to you with a glimmer of hope and a shy smile as he poked at the ice cream. You found this face to be an adorable one which tugged the corners of your smile up just a bit more as you licked at your spoon.

“Start…to a start? I guess? To be honest I’m not sure if I’m even ready for anything…There’s so much change going on right now.” You answered with a shrug, your smile having faded from feeling a little guilty about your truthful answer.

You had opened your mouth to continue to defend your answer, only to be stopped by the feel of Pietro’s calloused fingers on your lips. “I…I like the sound of starting a start…I may be fast but I can take things slow too.” He said with a smile. “But I think at the very least you owe me a kiss.” He added with his usual playful smirk, to which you just chuckled and reminded him to not push it. You sat there for a while longer to keep your speedster company, trading stories of your lives, finding it felt nice to be completely open and honest about your life for the first time in five years and finding it all too easy to open up to him.

The next day after Noah went to school all of the team pitched in to help you move all your things into the tower. Wanda couldn’t help smiling as she watched you watch her brother with Noah’s toys half putting them away half playing with them as the two of you worked on boxing up your closet. “You know, (Y/N)…You’ll never find anyone as loyal or kind as him.” She finally spoke up after she saw you had gotten so distracted that you’ve been holding a pair of pants for about a minute.

“Hmm?” You asked as your attention snapping back to the task at hand, finally placing the pants in your box.

“My brother…Who you seem to be staring at quite intently.” She said rather smoothly as she continued folding shirts off hangers. “Has he finally struck a chord with you?”

“I…I don’t know…” You stumbled over your thoughts, still not sure where to place everything that has happened in the last few days. “It’s….”

“A start to a start.” She said coyly…Pietro has obviously spoken to her about last night. “I understand, you have something much more important in your life than love…But don’t let your little one stop you from living your life. That’s not fair to you, or him.” She said as she closed up her box and left to put it with the others. You watched her leave, envious of the way she looked at the world, pausing to whisper something in her brother’s ear before exiting the apartment.

With everyone helping, and half of your stuff being pretty much useless to take with you anyway you found the work ended rather quickly. Bucky watched from the moving truck as Pietro slowly, timidly brought his hand to brush against yours just light enough and long enough to get your attention. A smile played on his face from the feel of your touch before he pulled it away. “So Domnita, how much longer until your little Copil comes to his new home?” He asked looking into your eyes, not touching you, not wanting to overstep your boundaries, but with the look in his eyes he made you wish he did.

“A few hours.” You answered with a smile as your hand hovered over his, still not touching, but so close you could feel the warmth of his skin on your fingertips.

“Enough time to go for a coffee?” He asked with that adorable hopeful smile he gave you last night. You looked up to the rest of the team, looking to see if they would be alright with the two of you leaving while they moved house for you.

“Go on, (Y/N).” Steve said with a smile as he closed the back of the moving truck. “You deserve some time off after yesterday. We’ll live without you.”

You gave Steve a soft, grateful smile before grasping Pietro’s hand. “Yeah…I think a coffee sounds nice.” You answered, chuckling at the way Pietro’s face lit up at you finally accepting a date pulling a fist down in a gesture of victory. Inside the vehicle Bucky heard everything, he could feel jealousy swelling in his stomach, twisting his insides and gripping tight on his heart. He gripped the steering wheel so tightly his metal hand that he left dents. Whatever happiness that had survived in his face this long was now dead and gone as he drove off.

Walpurgisnacht aka Tanz in den Mai is the name for the night of 30 April, so called because it is the eve of the feast day of Saint Walpurga, an 8th-century abbess in Germany. In German folklore Walpurgisnacht, aka Hexennacht (witches’ night), is believed to be the night of a witches’ meeting on the Brocken to welcome spring. It’s the highest peak in the Harz Mountains of Niedersachsen and Sachsen-Anhalt, a range of wooded hills between the rivers Weser and Elbe. Local variants of Walpurgis Night are also observed in the Netherlands, Czech Rep, Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, and Estonia. The term was first recorded in 1603. The 17th century German tradition of a meeting of sorcerers and witches on May Day eve is influenced by the descriptions of Witches’ Sabbaths in 15th and 16th century literature. All over Germany, it is common to “dance into May” on April 30th. Private and public parties are held for this in dance clubs, outdoors, at people’s houses, etc. In some parts of northern coastal regions of Germany, the custom of lighting huge fires still happens to celebrate the arrival of May, while most parts of Germany have a derived Christianized custom around Easter called Osterfeuer (Easter fires). In rural parts of southern Germany, it’s part of popular youth culture to play pranks such as messing with neighbors’ gardens, hiding possessions, or spraying graffiti on private property. In Berlin, traditional leftist May Day riots usually start at Walpurgis Night in the Mauerpark in Prenzlauer Berg. There is a similar tradition in the Schanzenviertel district of Hamburg, though in both cases, the situation has significantly calmed down in recent years.
