witches council

I was a witch type thing. I was being forced to marry a boy that I was raised with and saw as a brother by the witch council. He was a witch too and he was like “run away I’ll protect the girls” (no clue who they were but I wouldn’t runaway unless they were safe). So we pinky swore on it bc we were like 10 but by the time I was 20 I had became a mercenary and would take out bad ppl. I shot somebody very important and the council found me and brought me back to the boy. He was mad at me and we got into a fight. Then things got nsfw and I woke up crying

Part One

This is hell. I can’t sleep. I’ve been staring at the ceiling in the dark for hours, hoping I’ll get a call from Jughead. At this point, I’d be grateful if he just sent a text telling me our friendship was over and he didn’t want to see me anymore. At least then I’d know what he’s thinking. My mind keeps replaying the look on his face when I told him, trying to make sense of it. Was it betrayal? Or disgust? It might have been panic. Or a mixture of the three.

Whatever it was, it wasn’t good.

Barry The Teenage Warlock!

Barry as Sabrina living with Joe and Iris who are kinda helda and Zelda respectively because they both know Barry will have powers before he does. The set up matches cannon as well because Henry is in prison for killing Nora and it was still thawne that actually done it but this time it was because he was going to kill Barry to stop him becoming a warlock because he knows he’ll be more powerful than him.

So fast forward 5 years and on Barry’s 16 birthday his powers come into their own and Barry learns his past. He also learns that the sleek grey cat that sleeps at the bottom of his bed is actually a warlock called Leonard Snart who was condemned by the witches council (along with his best friend Mick) to be a cat for a hundred years for world domination.

Len always liked Barry and when he starts to learn magic with the mischievous help of the cat he starts to fall for him. Now he can’t wait for the day his sentence finishes……

I’m sorry of this is longer than you wanted, but here you go! I had a good time writing this one.

My life is hectic and unpredictable, so maybe with this new move things will change. I live with my two aunts since my mother passed away. My father was never around much. And our family has a secret… We’re witches. And no, we don’t fly around on brooms and wear tall pointy hats. At least not where people can see us! We also have a talking cat, who’s made keeping our secret even harder, because he loves to start chatting up a storm with our mailman. We’re moving to a town called Beacon Hills in California from a small town near Seattle Washington. It was my aunts’ idea.

for that witch au :^)

warning: this is gonna be long.

  • taehyung: traditional witch. tends to stick to spell books and charms, cauldrons included. oh, don’t forget a broom! he takes that old baby for a spin a lot. explosions tend to happen often because he experiments too much. likes to make charms for yoongi. has a garden for jimin.
  • jimin: the modern witch. more interested in space and astrology. likes making potions. likes tarot cards. steals flowers and plants from the local florist, but returns them because he feels bad - and gives some extra back.
  • jungkook: “hey can you do the di-” *poof*, jungkook is gone. he’s more unreliable, but don’t doubt him! he’s pretty powerful. roams around dark forests a lot, gathers gemstones and stuff. likes to turn people into chickens.
  • namjoon: part of a witch council, very responsible, but is a goof ball with his friends. fortune teller (looks into his crystal ball lmao). wears darker clothes, the more modern look of a witch.
  • yoongi: a human, but one of the smarter and cool ones. came into a room at the wrong time and turns into a cat sometimes. likes to be with taehyung when he’s in his cat form. tends to cuddle with taehyung (either way). sometimes gets into fights with jimin.
  • seokjin: a nymph. brings plants to jimin so he can make potions and such. has a small crush on all of them, but he’s just a flirt. replaces jungkook’s gemstones with mushrooms.
  • hoseok: a ghost that lives in taehyung’s house - has for a really long time. cause of death is unknown, but he’s one of the nicest ghosts ever. likes to go into the bathroom when people are showering. possesses random house objects.

Ah yes, gardening in your formalwear. I guess it’s important to have the proper witchy aesthetic in case the witch council drops by for an impromptu inspection and finds your wardrobe lacking.

In your ml witch AU tikki is a high council witch but also the broom? Can you elaborate? I'm a bit confused.....

of course! so the story goes, each of the high council (aka the kwamis) choose an apprentice who they think is strong in magic to train. magic, however, isn’t something know to the public, which leads to tikki having to disguise/ hide herself. she normally goes for the broom form, especially when mari is going on witch quests, her and mari’s combined magic leads to simple travel through the air (and tikki likes the cliche broom-flight trope the humans made up, she thinks it’s cute)

however tikki can’t always be a broom, because it would be a bit strange if mari was seen carrying a broom around with her everywhere, so when going out, she can transform into something small and simple like a brooch or even a little ladybug, of course. there are a few setbacks of this, one- magic is limited. even though tikki is extremely old and powerful, she has her breaking points. she can’t stay transformed for more than 13 hours at a time, and is her normal self as much as she can be when her and mari are alone. two- she has to really concentrate on what she wishes to become, the broom is easy for her by now but if you ask her to become something on the spot it can lead to some…weird circumstances

honestly i don’t know how they haven’t been busted yet, haha! it can be confusing, i didn’t get to put much backstory and lore (especially about the council!) in the first post, i hope this clears things up a bit! thank you so much for the ask!

I was not going to let her get away with this foolishness. This whole, troublesome ordeal was because of her irresponsibility. It was on the news, not even being half a day old and the whole world knew about her outburst after one of her shows.

“You’re impossible Akko!” was the first thing I said to her the entire night, fumbling with the keys to our home in Japan. Once I had the door open, she walked passed me and flicked the light switch on.

“But Diana, I had to do it!”

I’m reading about the edgy comic reboot of Sabrina the Teenage Witch that started a while back and:

  • Salem is Sabrina’s pet cat as well as her familiar. He is actually a human named Samuel who was turned into a cat as a punishment by the witches of Salem, Massachusetts after impregnating a witch named Abigail (not knowing she was a witch) and refusing to marry her. At some point as a cat, he attempted to enact the Book of Revelation.
  • Harvey Kinkle is Sabrina’s boyfriend who attends Baxter Senior High School with Sabrina. He is unaware that Sabrina and her aunts are witches. He also plays for the school’s football team. He would later be killed by the witch council. His body was later resurrected but instead of Harvey, Sabrina’s father soul took Harvey’s body. Sabrina is unaware her father is now Harvey.

I’m… what.

Magical Governments in Urban Fantasy

Anonymous asked: The novel I’m writing is an urban fantasy, which involves a variety of supernatural creatures hidden from sight. I’m a bit stuck on creating a governing body that sounds realistic. I was wondering if you had any tips on world building a government?

Great question. How you go about creating a government for the supernatural creatures will tell a lot about your story. From examples I’ve seen, there are really two ways to go (of course, you can make up more, but these seem believable and easy enough to work with):

  • Magical government mirrors the government of the country it’s set in. This is something you see in Harry Potter. That’s probably the best example. The Minister of Magic actually talks with the Prime Minister. This idea suggests that magic is widespread across the world, that there could be other magical governments in other countries. It also might mean that the magical government acts more as a side division of the nonmagical government and really works more closely with only the regulations of magical law. It’s one model to work with and it’s a cool idea.
  • Magical government is ruled by a small council of usually older and respected pillars of the community. This second one is much more prevalent. It also suggests though that the magical community is smaller, and also possibly, much more divided. There might be a High Council of Witches and also a High Council of Vampires within the same world. It suggests that everyone might know each other within this magical world and in some cases, that’s what the author wanted, but not always. It’s another model that is just as easy to work with.

As for some other things to consider:

  • What kind of government jobs are required of the world? How does postage work? Law enforcement? Politicians?
  • What are the regulations? Is there a code of law to reference?
  • How does the magical government compare to the nonmagical government of the place it’s set in?
Things Witches Do: A Resource for Writers

So you’re looking for inspiration for your Witch Species or ancient bloodline of magical practitioners and you don’t know where to start? Can’t make sense of the witchcraft tag on tumblr? Unfamiliar with magical practices and terminology in general?

Allow me to present my list of “Things Witches Do” a list of things actual witches (and other practitioners of magic) do which you can then use as inspiration to create their fictional counterparts.

Please keep in mind that this list is not exhaustive and covers topics in no particular order, and if any of my magically-inclined friends sees that I have forgotten something, please feel free to add it to the list.

1, Fam trads, innate gifts, and learned skills. Some practitioners of witchcraft identify as “fam trads” short for “family tradition”. These are people who were taught witchcraft by family members, or born into a magical lineage. Some witches assert that you cannot learn witchcraft, you must be born into it. In that sense, the Witch Species trope has some basis in real life. However, plenty of witches believe that witchcraft is a skill that can be taught.

2. Religion or practice. In both real life and fiction, witchcraft is often conflated with Wicca. However, the practice of witchcraft predates the religion of Wicca, and most would argue that witchcraft can be practiced by anyone regardless of religion or lack thereof.

3. Equal Rites, You know the Terry Pratchett book of the same name, where men are wizards and women are witches and a woman has no place learning wizard magic? This happens IRL with the genders reversed (for the most part). Some witches argue that men cannot or should not be witches for a variety of reasons: the (false) belief that witchcraft has always been a “woman thing” and that male practitioners of witchcraft did not exist, the belief that men who learn witchcraft will use those powers to oppress women. Traditions like Z. Budapest’s Dianic tradition refuse to teach men anything beyond herbalism and healing for the later reason. I should note, however, that this is definitely a minority position, and that the majority accepts that “witch” is gender neutral and witchcraft can be practiced by all genders.

4. Modern technology is gross. Yes, there are witches who grumble about other witches who use modern inventions like electric candles instead of regular ones, because they are not “traditional”. Some wax poetic about living in the country, away from all the “distractions” of the city. There is a definite tendency to idealize rural living and being “close to nature” over city living. This is an issue that is not exclusive to witchcraft communities, but also pops up in Pagan communities and among secular environmentalists and Romantic-era poets, which leads me to….

5. Nature based? Due to the conflation of witchcraft with Wicca (often perceived as a “nature-based” religion) and the point above, there is often the assumption that witchcraft in general is nature-based. The truth is that witchcraft is as varied as its practitioners. There are technowitches who use technology to make magic. There are people on tumblr who post emoji spells. There are witches who (literally) make magic in the kitchen. Speaking of which….

6. Witch types Here is an easy way to make a witch character: Take a noun (easiest with nature based terms), add the word “witch”. Here are some examples: natural/nature witch, death witch, storm witch, sea witch, fog witch, kitchen witch, technowitch, green witch, stellar witch, all of these are actual ways actual witches have described their witchcraft. Some tumblr witches in particular are preoccupied with finding the correct “type” for them. Note that identifying as a ____ witch is not necessary and many practitioners just kind of do what works.

7. Spell check. I could write a whole list just about magic in general but I’m just going to add a note about spells here. Some folks insist that you must absolutely write your own spells and never use the spells in books except as inspiration for your own spells. Others insist that you must never substitute ingredients in spells because the author uses that ingredient For A Reason. Some spells also use hard to find or expensive ingredients.

8. Witch Kings and Other Things Yes there have actually been people who declared themselves “King/Queen of the Witches” and there have been attempts to make councils of witches or other unifying organizations. Note that, as above, witchcraft in this case is usually being conflated with the religion of Wicca. In practice these people and organizations are mostly ignored.

9. Covens and Solitaries Witch covens are absolutely a thing (particularly if the witch is also Wiccan) but there are many witches who practice alone, and there are witches who are part of other religious groups but practice witchcraft on the side. For instance, Christian witches who belong to a church and practice witchcraft in private. Contrary to popular belief, covens do not always have thirteen members. Some groups are tailored to specific people (trans witches, black witches, women), others admit anyone, and some have very specific requirements like thirteen members with an even ratio of men and women (or close enough)

10. Witches are everywhere. Don‘t feel like you have to limit your characters to being bookstore or occult shop owners. Anyone and everyone can be a witch. Seriously though it’s been done, make witch lawyers or something. Actually, the Craft Sequence sort of did that already.

Most of what I just wrote comes from things I’ve seen in the “witchcraft” tag or read in a wide variety of books. Unfortunately, many books on witchcraft conflate “witch” with “Wiccan” and perpetuate a lot of misinformation. The “mythic history” some adhere to could be a bullet point in and of itself. I also only briefly touched on the distinction between “low” and “high” magic and how some practitioners of the latter sneer at the former. Yea, there are “my magic is better than yours” routines. There are also people that argue that being vegan or vegetarian makes your magic stronger.

Any questions? Send me an ask.

Scarlett Weathery

race: Vellynian | gender: cis woman (she/her) | sexuality: lesbian | age: 35 | weatherwitch

Scarlett Weathery was the First Witch of the High Council before Early.  She is no longer on the council, and indeed any questions that Aisling finds relating to this mysterious woman seem to end in sad smiles and deflections by Early and Providence, while the other three witches on the council know little beyond her name and image.

It might turn out that finding out the truth behind what happened to Scarlett Weathery is the only chance Aisling has of protecting the other witches, however.

Drell is a very powerful witch and head of the witches council.  He was also the ex fiancee of Hilda Spellman, who, he continuously left at the alter over the centuries.  Hilda was in love with him. He was known to constantly call off dates or show up late due to work. He had a pet mole named Moley and was somewhat sensitive if people stared at his pet.  While being on and off again, they continuously ran into each other much to Hilda’s disgust,    until the two finally discuss giving their love another shot; however when Hilda fails The Test of True Love, she gives up on Drell permanently.

Drell lead a very busy life due to being the head of the witches council,He seems to be erratic, work oriented and somewhat fidgety. He sometimes comes off as a know it all. He’s a very intelligent man, but doesn’t seem to share the same relationship views as Hilda.

for the book ask, number 17?

17. What is your favourite book that contains an LGBTQ+ character?

I kinda hoped you would ask that 😂😂

The Half Life trilogy by Sally Green. The books are Half Bad, Half Wild and Half Lost. It’s got witches and set two or three decades in the future. It deals with mental health, prejudice(in this case it’s White Witches, Black Witches and those who have a Witch parent and a human parent, with Blacks often seen as villains, despite it actually being the leaders of the White Witches Council). The first book builds up White Witch Annalise and the main character Nathan romantically until Nathan escapes the country-for reasons I won’t go into in case you wanna read it- and ends up meeting French/Swiss Black Witch Gabriel Boutin. Gab is gay but it’s no big deal to anyone. Him and Nathan become best friends and eventually they get together and it’s really cute
