wish they showed more of them

The Only Exception (Part 8)

Summary: AU. Reader is given the task of running a popular love advice internet show when her coworker is fired. Her cynical attitude toward love makes her offer some harsh advice, and more than a few hearts are caught in the aftermath. Will hers be one of them?

Pairing: Bucky Barnes x reader

Word Count: 2,733

Warnings: language, fire, panic, dangerous situation, rescue, drinking, bad jokes, I’m off the handle because I no longer care

A/N: If you don’t like it, don’t read it. After the posts I saw last week that personally attacked me…I wish some people put half as much effort into helping others and the earth as they do being genuinely awful.

Anyways, it’s fiction.

Yuri on Ice 2017/02/11 all night event report

I’m back from the event and I’ll write a report before going to sleep, mostly because I’m sure I will not be able to decipher my scribbles when I wake up… It’s not the full talk show since you can’t record it and also I couldn’t possibly write down everything, but I tried to take note of most things, especially stuff that has never been mentioned elsewhere. In the end it became quite long so I guess I was able to get most of the stuff down…

Needless to say it’s my notes, so other people might write about parts I omitted, etc. To be honest quite a few of the things they said especially in the beginning, like what the seiyuu think about their characters, is something I’ve read so many times in interviews that I could almost answer in their place, lol… I was a bit disappointed that one of the questions that was answered is the one about Chris’ mysterious acquaintance, because actually Kubo answered that in Pash already (it’s in the Q&A part I’ll be translating later), and I hoped they would feature questions about stuff that hasn’t been explained yet. Well I guess not everybody reads interviews, but still…

Due to the format of the report you can find my comments here and there, mostly in brackets.
Under the cut because it’s long.

I forgot to mention something important: the ones participating in the talk show were Mitsurou Kubo, Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Yuuri), Junichi Suwabe (Victor), Kouki Uchiyama (Yurio).

13 Reasons Why controversy

Because the response to 13 Reasons Why has been so controversial, I’d just like to point out some things.

As explained in 13 Reasons Why: Beyond the Reasons, the suicide scene was shown BECAUSE they wanted it to be painful for the audience to watch, as well as the rape scenes. Not because they wanted to be gruesome or inconsiderate, but because it is REALITY for so many people in the world and a lot of people like to pretend these things don’t exist or shield themselves from the reality of it; they ignore it because they’ve never gone through it, so they don’t care so much. So then when they see these scenes, they will be made uncomfortable and see what people are really truly experiencing and that it is not something that should at all be sugarcoated or ignored. IT IS REAL.

Secondly, for those saying it’s disgusting for them to show these scenes, THERE ARE WARNINGS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE EPISODES THAT SHOW RAPE AND/OR SUICIDE TO NOT WATCH IF IT WILL AFFECT THE VIEWER IN ANY WAY. These warnings are given specifically so that if you are not comfortable watching or believe it would cause a trigger, you should not even watch. So the fact that people are bashing the show for showing these scenes in relation to them being a trigger, the warnings are already made very clear in the beginning. They did take this step to make sure it wouldn’t just pop up and be any sort of triggers. The producers knew very well to be wary of that.
The show also worked with a lot of psychiatrists, psychologists, and leading experts in teen-suicide prevention. Though this still may not be enough for you to think they did everything right, they again did have the warnings. They are very aware that it could cause triggers and put some people in danger, but THAT IS WHAT THE WARNINGS ARE FOR. DO NOT WATCH IF IT COULD DANGER YOU. VIEWER’S DISCRETION IS ALWAYS ADVISED.

THE SHOW WAS NOT CREATED FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES. IT IS TO SPREAD AWARENESS FOR ALL THE ISSUES (suicide, rape, bullying) AND POINT OUT HOW LITTLE THE SIGNS CAN BE AND HOW MUCH MORE CAREFUL AND HELPFUL EVERYONE IN THE WORLD NEEDS TO BE TO THE PEOPLE AROUND US. As also talked about in Beyond the Reasons, they want to promote teaching boys the proper ways to approach a girl and gain permission to become intimate with her, always getting the YES to teach boys respect for women. This is very important because as most people know, it has always been extremely hard for rape victims to get help because of the “what were you wearing” “were you flirting” “did you lead him on” “did you directly say no” arguments that are so wrongfully executed—instead, 13 Reasons Why knows that this is an issue, as somewhat shown in the scene with Mr. Porter as he questions Hannah. So in the after show, they speak about how parents need to be teaching their children more about consent and less about just protecting yourself, covering up, etc. They are aware that the real issue is with proper consent, and that is a very important message to get across.

Coming from someone who has battled depression and suicidal thoughts and attempts, I must also point out that EVERY SINGLE PERSON, EXPERIENCES, THOUGHTS, REACTIONS, ETC ARE DIFFERENT. What one person suffering depression thinks may be different than another. Hannah Baker’s story is very unique in many ways yet also extremely relatable in many ways to many, many people and girls around the world. JUST BECAUSE YOUR STORY MAY BE DIFFERENT DOES NOT MEAN HERS IS INCORRECT OR LESS/MORE THAN ANOTHER’S. There are a lot of people who can relate to feeling as though you are NOTHING and of no worth to the people around you, just a burden that only disappoints everyone and makes their lives worse. This is a very real state of being and depression and feeling of complete worthlessness that people can reach in their lives, especially some young teenage girls, like Hannah Baker, and even myself, that will lead to suicidal thoughts, attempts, or completely following through with, like Hannah. They believe the world and their loved ones would be better off without them. Again, as someone who has attempted suicide as a teenager and worked for years to fight depression and overcome it, I can say that while the suicide scene did make me uncomfortable and was extremely painful to watch, I was not offended. I knew of the warning at the beginning of the episode, read it, and continued to watch because EVERYONE HANDLES THESE THINGS DIFFERENTLY. I UNDERSTOOD the purpose of including the scene and making it so graphic and realistic. IT’S REALITY, THIS IS HAPPENING TO PEOPLE EVERYDAY AND IT SHOULD NOT BE SUGARCOATED OR SHIELDED FROM THE WORLD; it needs to be made more AWARE OF by those who like to turn a blind eye to it, but it is exposed WITH WARNING. So again, if some feel as though a scene like this would be a trigger, IT IS ADVISED YOU DO NOT WATCH. Everyone is affected differently and they did not just insert it with no consideration for the affect it could have on those battling the same wars as Hannah.

To say Clay was an easy solution and could have saved Hannah by loving her—no, he could not have saved her by just loving her, that is not what this story is even saying. Hannah does explain at the end of her last tape as she exits the school that some people cared, but she felt it was only mediocre, not enough for her to want to stay and feel NEEDED and truly LOVED. So no, they are not saying Clay could have kept her alive by simply loving her, or that love can save someone, it is much more complex than that. What they are saying is that people can care, but not showing how much they truly care can affect someone in the ways it affected Hannah. It was not just one boy’s love that could have saved her, but the love and care of many people, for them to show that they truly cared about her being alive and DID NOT see her as worthless, an object, just another person on earth. She needed to feel as though they NEEDED her to stay, that they genuinely cared about her as a person and that her life was truly worth something, because she did not feel it was. When Clay says he could have kept her alive if he wasn’t so afraid to tell her he loved her, he simply means he could have given her a sense of hope, a sense of belonging on the earth, that someone truly, whole-heartedly valued her life and her as a human being, not an object.

The actress who plays Jessica also explained that she reached out to a family member who is an actual rape survivor, and she stated that she was pleased that the show was “not shying away from the ugliness” of these scenes because viewers will see what these people really go through–again, another topic that is usually sugarcoated and instead needs to be addressed.

13 Reasons Why is a unique way of telling the story of a teenage girl who committed suicide, and the reasoning for bringing it to screen was MOSTLY to promote awareness and shine light on things that are not talked about enough that the youth suffers every single day, things adults see as “normal teenager struggles,” “small stuff,” “it only feels like the end of the world and really isn’t,” etc. This show is being spread more than even expected, and that is a very good thing for those who are in need of help and have parents or peers that once ignored their problems and will now tend to them.

**an issue cannot be tended to/made aware of/more properly prevented if it is just sugarcoated rather than slapped in people’s faces (those who don’t realize how severe it is) like this show does. it can really change things and leave an impact.

**if you are at risk for triggers and do not feel you are currently healthy enough to watch this show, please take care of yourself and do not watch. or, skip episodes 9, 12, and 13 and read up on them instead. these are the episodes that can be triggers for those at risk, if you weren’t yet aware.

**also feel free to stop by my inbox and talk to me if you need someone to talk to, or just would like to speak more on the subject.

Yes dude, we ship them because Tom’s a guy and it’s gay, not because….

1. They have chemistry

2.  They have ROMANTIC chemistry

3. Marco is the only character who so far knows how to properly handle Tom’s emotions and issues. And his only real supporting friend.

4. They have shared interests and problems.

 5. They sang a dang romantic duet together.

6. One literally raised the dead for the other just to make them happy.

7. Their dynamic is highly interesting and their interactions are fun to watch.

8. The show actually makes these weird hints of a romance between them.

9. THIS, JUST THIS

and 10. THEY HAVE 2  EPISODES TOGETHER, AND ONE WAS AN ENTIRE EPISODE CENTERED AROUND THEIR RELATIONSHIP.

They have a building relationship that the show took time on, they didn’t just become friends right off the bat,  which means it’ll come into play in the future with more episodes.

and that’s without mentioning the fact that gay couples have kissed on this show and that the crew likes this ship as well.

Yes dude, you really nailed us tomco shippers down. -_-

If you wish to respect us for our ship, then calling our ship “Bad” and making assumptions as to why we ship it is not the right way of doing it.

If you wanna know why someone ships something, you ask them, you don’t assume anything.

morning after their ‘i love you’s

They had held each other the entire night. Neither of them had let the other out of their sight… or arms. The warmth and safety that Alec and Magnus had most definitely missed after their most recent dispute, after the attack on the Institute, was now more intense than ever.

Neither had slept a tonne that night. They couldn’t bare the thought of losing each other again. Instead, the night was spent squeezing each other tight, an abundance of kisses, and whisperings of ‘I love you’.

Alec had thrown all caution to the wind when he had confessed his feelings to Magnus, completely unaware whether Magnus felt the same but he couldn’t keep it bottled up. Alec had never known love that intensely before, not even when he believed he was in love with Jace. And Magnus, he couldn’t risk losing such a connection that he had spent over a century avoiding.

Alec stroked Magnus’ face, his thumb grazing over every feature as softly as possible. Magnus traced every rune on Alec’s body, reminding himself that the boy laying just inches from him was here to stay. Alec was about to say something when his phone began to ring. He reached for it past Magnus but stopped when it stopped ringing. Magnus rolled over to look at the screen. “It’s Izzy,” he whispered, reading the message. “She says they need you at the Institute.”

Alec groaned in protest but began to get up. He really should’ve made sure to get some rest. Alec propped himself onto his elbows so he could look at Magnus. They both just smiled at each other, content with where they were. Magnus reached a hand over and curled his fingers around Alec’s naked bicep. “Don’t go…” Magnus whispered against Alec’s arm, leaving a trail of kisses that made Alec weak. Magnus looked up at him and pouted.

Alec brought his hand over to Magnus’ cheek, stroking him and bringing him up to kiss him softly. “I don’t want to either,” he murmured, their lips still brushing against each other. Magnus smiled into the kiss and pulled on Alec’s arm, bringing him closer and onto him. They pulled apart but Alec remained hovering over Magnus. “Can I see them again?” he asked staring straight into Magnus’ eyes.

Magnus felt his stomach churn. Never had someone asked to see his cat eyes willingly before. He blinked once in order to reveal them and stared at Alec’s face with them. He searched the boy’s face for a reaction, any reaction. But all he received was a slight parting of Alec’s lips. Magnus always felt uncomfortable when someone looked straight at them. But Alec made him feel safe, like there was nothing to hide. Still, Magnus hastily blinked away and brought up his glamour once again. “I really wish I could see them more,” Alec said with a small smile. Magnus’ heart ached for him. Alec curled an arm under Magnus’ back and lay back down to rest his head on Magnus’ chest. Their toes played together under the covers. “I love you so much.”

Magnus’ heart, the same that had not felt anything for God knows how long, stammered loudly. Magnus could feel Alec smile against him. “I love you with every fibre of my being, Alexander.”

And now I’m stuck,
You’ve got me stuck.
Hmmm—uh

Just what I wanted.
I still don’t know,
it’s all missing.
You’re picking up

Just leave them alone if you don't like it?

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to open up lenaluthorisgay.tumblr.com. It’s nice of you to visit my little corner of the internet. Now. Please kindly get the fuck away.

Because look. We’ve said it before. We will keep saying it. We will quite literally probably never stop saying it. The story they are telling is offensive, out of character, and quite horrifically disgusting.

There are posts that go into a lot more detail here, and I’ll link them if you actually care, which I’m pretty sure you don’t. But let me give you a summary: Mountain Dew, literal slave owner and self-proclaimed misogynist, has disrespected Kara, gone against her direct wishes in their relationship, and objectified her and emotionally manipulated her not just once but many times.

This isn’t about a ship war. This is about the fact that they took a show that had a strong, incredible female protagonist who was amazing not just because she was a superhero but because she was a good person and turned it into a show where said protagonist literally says “I can give up being who I am if I have you, a boy, in my life.” That’s not healthy. That’s the opposite of healthy. That’s so big of a red flag it is emitting radiation and Kara is going to lose her powers because she’s suddenly near a red sun.

It’s about the fact that people are romanticizing and idolizing an extremely unhealthy relationship because Mountain Dew is a conventionally attractive white guy. It’s about the fact that this show is teaching a generation of young women that this is okay. And you know what? It isn’t.

anyway nu'est have been consistently sabotaged by pledis throughout their entire career. they took a group with a massively successful debut that had a strong anti-bullying message (which BTW is STILL more successful than both exo’s mama and b.a.p’s warrior, their contemporaries) and they let them rot. for 3+ years pledis used them as guinea pigs for their promotional ideas that all ended in failure. they gave them inconsistent and throwaway korean comebacks, let them promote endlessly in Japan which while successful, distanced them from where their fanbase began, they debuted nu'est-m for the chinese market with another member who was never heard from again while the subunit dissolved with absolutely nothing concrete to show for it. THEN, in year 5, they actually invest the time into nu'est, giving them solid comebacks that fit with their overall and unique sound and succeeded in bringing back their fanbase, getting them to 2nd place on a music show which only foreshadowed their long-awaited commercial success should they continue and then THIS MESS happens. this produce 101 mess. 5 years and they take this seasoned group and put them on a survival show to debut alongside trainees for a temporary group I’m so???????? what outcome do they expect from this? the writing is on the wall that all the members who compete are going to be criticized, if not mocked, for being reduced to trainees nearly 6 years after debut. that or being called cheaters for already having a fanbase upon entering. they’re halting nu'est’s promotions, which were finally going right and for what? to separate the group? to make them compete directly against each other? really where does nu'est go from here if some of their members debut in a temporary group? or the alternative, they don’t make the group at all and the separation was for nothing but to hurt the group’s image to suggest that a makeshift group with a 1-year expiration date is more appealing career wise. I literally can’t even dream up a way that this makes sense. part of me wishes nu'est just would have left pledis and whether stayed together or not, given these talented guys a fighting chance for their careers. the kicker? pledis KNOWS how to promote groups, i.e., SVT. They gave them opportunities for years before debut to gain a fanbase, they’re regularly promoted, they participate in variety and reality shows that benefit their careers and gain fans. granted, svt are a self-produced group and really most of the work falls on them, but JEEZ promotionally, we’re comparing successful, thoughtful promotions with a LITERAL mess within the same company. I can’t help but think pledis purposely ran nu'est into the ground to focus on their 13 member supergroup. I mean we can see where their focus is, also letting their girl group after school fade to nothing after the substantial impact they left on the entire music scene AND letting orange caramel go when they too were on the brink of a breakthrough and that’s a tangent but at the crux of it SVT really deserve everything, they’re hardworking and great people and you just want to see them reach the very top but nu'est deserved just the same and anyway I’m bitter.

TLDR: nu'est are actually contestants in pledis’ game called “just how far can we run a successful and talented group straight into the ground?”

The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017)

I don’t even know how or where to start…

I’ll never forget watching the series premiere of The Vampire Diaries back on September 10th, 2009 when I was just 19 years old. I’d heard about the show a few months before it aired and made sure to watch the first episode ever live on TV. And from the second the pilot ended with Elena inviting Stefan into her house with The Fray’s “Never Say Never” playing in the background, I was hooked. Obsessed. And that’s an understatement. I only had a couple hundred followers back then and most of those followers probably don’t even follow me anymore, or have forgotten my obsession with the show, but back then my blog used to be so much TVD it’s crazy. Just thinking back and even now going through my old tags from the show, I remember how much I used to love it. The Vampire Diaries was, in those days, 100% my favourite show on TV. Hands down.

I always thought Stelena was cute and I never hated on them. I get why people loved them, and their relationship was strong & sweet. But yes, I was a Delena shipper through-and-through, basically from day one. I think Damon and Elena were my first ever true “OTP”. Back then that term was so new, it was Tumblr that taught me the meaning of it, and Delena was absolutely my #1 OTP at the time.

The early seasons (1-3) of The Vampire Diaries were obviously the best, and in my opinion, iconic. There are so many epic, unforgettable moments from the earlier years that I wish I could just list off right now, like Katherine’s return to town, Caroline turning into a vampire, Delena’s first official kiss on Elena’s iconic front porch. There’s SO many more countless scenes, and I wish I could explain my love for them all.

I enjoyed Season 4 too, but I will never ever forget episode 4x15. For me, that was the turning point for the show. It was the saddest, darkest episode of television I’d ever watched at the time, and watching Elena’s house go up in flames was devastating. Who else remembers seeing the close-up shots of Elena’s converse shoes burning, and most importantly, seeing her infamous diary being destroyed by the flames? It almost felt like a series finale to me, and I think that’s where it all changed.

I started feeling a little less passionate in Seasons 5 & 6, and then when Nina left the show I just stopped watching it altogether. After she left I only downloaded the new episodes once in a while just to keep track of the general storylines, but TVD lost its magic, and I no longer felt the passion and obsession and love for it that I once did.

That being said though, it has always and will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I don’t feel for the characters as much as I once did, and yeah that’s a little scary to me, but I guess we all grow up and we all move on. I’m 27 now, things have changed. A lot of things. It’s all in the past now, and it hurts. But no matter what, I will always, always love this show and will forever be grateful for it, regardless of the fact that it wasn’t perfect.

The series finale wasn’t the greatest, but I still am 100% satisfied with the ending overall. My general thoughts:

  • Damon and Elena’s reunion was anti-climactic to me, especially since they didn’t have any dialogue with one another. But I also am okay with that I think? Ian & Nina’s break-up obviously caused the show to go downhill (yeah I said it) so I didn’t necessarily need some lovey-dovey romantic speech from them. I’m not sure if it would have felt authentic enough. So I’m okay with just knowing that they ended up being ENDGAME (yaaaas) and living a long and happy life together. If this was 2010 I would have been SO passionate about them being endgame. The amount of times I discussed and debated Delena vs. Stelena back in the day, omfg. I’ve grown up and I don’t feel as passionate anymore about it, but my 20 year old self is still inside me jumping up and down that my ship was endgame (sorry haters).
  • I feel like Katherine didn’t get enough air-time, her story and presence in the last episode felt more forced and rushed rather than cathartic, but I’m still just happy that I got to see her fierce crazy bitch ass one last time. (Even though I kind of always wanted her to end up with Stefan tbh…)
  • Stefan dying was predictable but so depressing. Although tbh seeing him reunited in the afterlife with his bestie Lexi made everything okay.
  • Seeing that letter from Klaus to Caroline made me smile so fucking hard. I still ship it and I hope to god she eventually ends up on The Originals.
  • Bonnie Bennett is QUEEN of everything and all that matters is that she saved the day and got to live a long, happy life after all the bullshit the poor girl had to go through all these years. I’m so happy she’s safe and sound.
  • I loved how they incorporated the “ghosts” of all the characters who’ve died, it gave me so many feelings, especially seeing Sheriff Forbes.
  • The fact that at the end of his long life with Elena, Damon found his way back to Stefan in the afterlife makes me feel so happy and satisfied. But NOTHING compares to the happiness I felt seeing Elena turn towards her old house, to that iconic front porch, and her being reunited with Jenna and her parents. That’s honestly all I could have ever hoped for and more for the ending to this show.

I don’t think I can ever truly explain the love and passion I used to feel for The Vampire Diaries. It may sound stupid to a lot of people, but it meant so much to me and I’m not embarrassed to say it. It breaks my heart that I’ll never get the good old days back again. But I’ll never forget it, ever.

Thank you, The Vampire Diaries, for a bumpy but amazing ride. It’s been epic ;)

some advice

so, you’re joining the hamilton fandom and want to produce content? great!! scared of the unofficial etiquette in this mess? let me help.
(disclaimer: this is an UNOFFICIAL guideline. i’m aware that this fandom is a problematic mess that’s full of discourse and the only adult ones tend to be actual legal adults. don’t fuckin @ me saying that hur durr i’m wrong and should rot in hell. this is based off personal experience.)

-SHIPS
•Most pairings are accepted. The main ones are Hamilton/Laurens, Hamilton/Burr, Hamilton/Eliza, Jefferson/Madison, Jefferson/Hamilton, Washington/Lafayette, Maria/Eliza (or any Schuyler sister rly) and Mulligan/Lafayette. These usually have the most content, but also contain the most discourse. There’s also some major minor character ships out there; Lee/Seabury, Lee/KG3, Seabury/KG3 etc. I found Eacker/Philip H smut once. This fandom is literally the reason why Rule 34 exists. If it exists, there is porn of it.
•Polyamorous ships are widely accepted. I don’t ship any personally, but a few big ones are Hamilton/Eliza/Laurens, Laurens/Hamilton/Lafayette/Mulligan, Hamilton/Jefferson/Madison, etc. Basically, a lot of people like the idea of Hamilton’s cheating being converted into a happy, consensual relationship that’s polygamous, and that’s okay. (Please note I’m not equating cheating with polyamory. Hamilton being a dirty cheater doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with poly ships if you don’t want, but to me it seems particularly common, especially with the ships containing Hamilton and Eliza.)
•And I know you want to ask; what’s not accepted? Hard question. This fandom loves its angst, so there aren’t many ships that seem untouchable. For the love of God, though, don’t write anything that’s incestuous. I’m talking father/son, sibling/sibling. Don’t make any of Hamilton’s kids end up with the characters in the show. No, Washington/Hamilton doesn’t count as incest, although I personally can’t stand it.
•BASICALLY, don’t be a dick. Also, bear in mind that James Reynolds is the Umbridge of this fandom. If you portray his relationship with Maria as anything less than abusive, there will be riots. I’ve yet to see an (educated) James Reynolds apologist.

-CHARACTERS

•In terms of physical appearance, this fandom is a little wishy-washy on guidelines, unofficial or no. Tip: don’t whitewash if you’re drawing/writing them as their musical characters. Just don’t whitewash in general. This fandom seems to be okay with historical-era fanart and fanfic, which usually involves the characters looking like they did historically, but don’t romanticise them. Don’t romanticise them in general, but especially if you’re making them historical-era.
•SPEAKING OF ROMANTICISING, these characters were BAD PEOPLE. Jefferson owned slaves, Burr owned slaves, Washington owned slaves, the Schuylers owned slaves, evidence points to Hamilton owning at least one slave. Don’t let the Alexander apologists fool you; they were bad people historically. Don’t refer to them, ESPECIALLY I HISTORICAL CONTEXT, as ‘cinnamon rolls’. They were misogynists against the rights of women and minorities. Don’t forget that, no matter how much you like their characters. The Jefferson you like is portrayed by a black Jew; the Jefferson in history was a racist with a history of sexual assault and a slavery apologist.
•KEEPING THAT IN MIND, personality-wise, what we get from the musical is a little murky. Peggy is a great example of this. Fanon Peggy is very outspoken, sarcastic and a typical millenial. In the musical, she’s shy, hides behind her older sisters and very cautious. This is because of the fact that a) Peggy’s vocals are only apparent in one song through listening alone and b) historically Peggy was very similar to fanon Peggy. THIS DOESN’T MATTER. PORTRAY THEM HOWEVER YOU THINK SUITS BEST. Don’t let the musical force you to make Eliza’s main trait be ‘nice’. For all you Laurens stans out there, it’s okay to let him have interests other than art, turtles and Hamilton. Feel free to give them depth, complexities, flaws. Not only is it fucking refreshing amongst the collection of bland chatfics and high school AUs that seem to reduce each character to a single trait, it’s good for original character practice as well.
•THE SCHUYLER SISTERS get their own section. If you’re doing something historical, remember that they had other siblings. It’s generally agreed that Angelica and Eliza were closest, but Angelica and Peggy and Eliza and Peggy are shown in the musical as being close too (see Angelica dancing with Peggy and hugging her in Satisfied, and Peggy helping Eliza put away her letters and being dragged along with her in Helpless and The Schuyler Sisters). Sometimes it seems that fics reduce them to plot devices, minor characters or love interests; I won’t go all 'SJW!1!1!1’ on you but they are their own people as well, and flesh them out. (This problem is not as common in artwork, since art of them tends to focus on them either as a trio or Satisfied and Helpless companion pieces starring Angelica and Eliza.) Also, fun fact that this fandom seems to have overlooked - all three of them could play instruments.
-REVOLUTIONARY SET AND DEMOCRATIC REPUBLICANS. Things to remember include Madison and Hamilton being friends before Jefferson showed up, Jefferson and Lafayette being close, Mulligan historically being Hamilton’s biggest hypeman (oh, I wish I was kidding) and Laurens and Lafayette being close friends. As for Burr, he’s traditionally relegated to the strange outsider by the fandom. This is more of a personal view, but Burr started off as a member of the Revolutionary Set, and progressed into a Democratic Republican, and this fandom likes to forget that.
-THEODOSIA JR. Theodosia is never seen, only mentioned, which basically means everything about her is fanon. Literally. The only confirmed thing about her are her parents. This means Theodosia is good for inserting an audience-type character into; she’s an empty vessel, essentially, so anything you do to her involves zero fact checking. BEAR IN MIND that Theodosia is usually shipped with Philip, and that some members of the fandom will have expectations of her. Ignore those people. Theodosia is a shell of an OC, so as long as you don’t murder her in childhood or something, there’s no real discourse you have to be wary of. (Apart from Philip/Theodosia discourse, which is apparently a thing? But there’s discourse in practically every ship, so by all means, ignore that too.)
•UNMENTIONED/UNSEEN CHARACTERS. I’m talking Ben Franklin, John Adams, James Monroe, Governor Clinton, them. John Adams appears to be universally hated, John Jay is often used as a filler or plot device, and the others are just used as names. Don’t bother about continuity with them.

-SOME COMMON AU IDEAS
•High School/College Modern AU. This is a big one. There are flaws in it, namely romanticising too much and relegating major characters to 'minor’ status, but it’s so widely used that it’s good to know if you’re new here.
•Modern Government/Law AU. Another big one. Not as commonly used because ugh, research and maturity, but there’s a massive pro to them - more complex themes and 'child’ characters can be added because the main lot are usually older. My personal favourite.
•Chatroom AU. What it sounds - no real fic, just usernames and text speak. Good for laughs or plain fights, but bad for complex emotion, fluff, angst, or major plot. Also, they clog up the tags of less major ships, especially on AO3.
•Soulmate AU. A variety of soulmate AUs exist, but essentially boil down to having some kind of matching mark, etc. Amazing for angst, fluff, plot and character development, but not so great for humour or multi-chapter fics.
•Domestic AUs. Exactly as they sound. Massive fluff traps, no real substance but they’re amazing if you’ve had a shitty day and need something to cheer you up. Fan favourite.

So there you go! Everything you need to know if you’re entering the Hamilton fandom, give or take a few things. Don’t bash ships, don’t romanticise them too much, and take Ron Chernow’s content with a pinch of salt (he’s known for 'not finding’ easily accessible content regarding the women of the Hamilverse). Good luck!

When Damen laces his hands together, the left thumb is on top. Laurent fixes this detail with a look that is, as it were, a warm-up for the look he’s about to direct at Damen’s face. Damen is perched on the edge of the plush, over-quilted, impeccably white satin bedspread, elbows resting on his spread knees. He is crushing some of the red rose petals. Laurent makes a mental note to send a production assistant in here with fresh ones before they film the individual segments after the cocktail party.

Someone knocks at the closed door and says, “Um, I think–”

No,” snarls Laurent, wasting the first and most icily searing few seconds of his expression on the door. Silence follows.

“All right, what is it?” Laurent demands of Damen. “Is it drugs? Do I need to send someone out for some cocaine? Do you have a fucking headache? Has a soft-hearted AD whom I will summarily fire snuck you your phone, and you’ve found out that your cat’s died?”

“No,” Damen says, apparently to all of the above. After a moment he adds, in a tone that Laurent can’t parse, “I don’t have a cat.”

“Then what the fuck is wrong with you? I’ve seen potato salad with more vivacity than you’re showing out there.”

“It’s all so–staged,” Damen says, with distaste.

Laurent manages not to roll his eyes, but the violence with which he wishes he were rolling his eyes causes dull pain to gather behind them like a stormcloud.

silver-feather  asked:

Since you posted the Samus photo I have a question that I've kind of been too awkward to ask until now :P With costumes that are so form-fitting like Samus, Mara Jade, and Asuka, what do you wear underneath so that lines don't show through?

This is a GREAT question because I wish someone would have told me what to wear under my bodysuits years ago.

Shapewear is a wonderful tool and I recommend it to people of all sizes. Not only does this prevent panty lines from showing, it smooths out all your shapes and keeps potential food babies in check. The “wear your own bra” style is extra great and versatile. Body suits tend to compress your chest, so lots of cosplayers (including me) choose to wear padded push-up bras with them to balance the figure and create a more flattering silhouette.

The shapewear acts like a lining that can be washed frequently, so that the whole bodysuit doesn’t have to be. Unless you’re sweating A LOT or something, the bodysuit stays relatively clean.

Here’s the brand/style I actually use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00284B5G4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

On a related note, here is a very important bodysuit undergarment PSA that can’t be shared enough: If you have a penis and you’re wearing a bodysuit, PLEASE wear a dance belt for the love of god. No one wants to see the sad outline of your flaccid wiener. A dance belt is designed to keep your dick under wraps. Google it if you need to.

Good luck with your bodysuit adventures.

The Only Exception (Part 1)

Summary: AU. Reader is given the task of running a popular love advice internet show when her coworker is fired. Her cynical attitude toward love makes her offer some harsh advice, and more than a few hearts are caught in the aftermath. Will hers be one of them?

Pairing: Bucky Barnes x reader

Word Count: 3,442

Warnings: language, fluff, wishful thinking, hot firemen, sarcasm, cynicism, bad jokes

A/N: Okay, so I saw a movie a long long time ago that was terrible, but it inspired the ‘bad’’ love advice and the firemen. I’ve been dying to have fireman!Bucky in one of my AUs.

And yes, the title comes from the Paramore song. I felt like it’s how reader feels throughout. Hope you guys like it. I had some writer’s block, and some house guests, so this is a little late being posted.

Arya Meme
1/7 Relationships: Sandor Clegane

“Why don’t you just kill me like you did Mycah?” Arya had screamed at him. She was still defiant then, more angry than scared.

He answered by grabbing the front of her tunic and yanking her within an inch of his burned face. “The next time you say that name I’ll beat you so bad you’ll wish I killed you.”

Honestly, I’m 100% not surprised that people are complaining about Maggie’s “You get one, Alex.” line being toxic/abusive tc, lol. Because I feel like people these days are not used to seeing a romance where both characters are their own people, with their own personalities, foibles, shortcomings and self-interests.

I feel like, especially in recent years, media has really shaped romance into this one-sided deal, where you get one relatable and fallible character with a proper backstory (the main character) and then you get the love interest, whose only purposes are to look good, and love the main character unconditionally. They’re a paper thin cutout character, a wish fulfillment of the fantasy that there’s a person out there who’ll love you no matter how terrible or unlovable you get. They might have a tragic backstory to make them more attractive, but it will never inform their decisions or character in any meaningful way. In essence, they are a blank slate that you can slot your dream lover into.

I’ve seen this trope play over and over again in TV shows, YA novels, etc. (I won’t name the popular ships that fall into this trap, because I’m not here to bash ships, just to write out my thoughts on this phenomenon.)

In contrast, Maggie is her own character, underdeveloped as she is in the narrative. There are nuances to her, the most striking one being how emotionally guarded she is. When she lets her guard down for Alex, and then Alex hurts her by dumping her publicly, on the very night after the first time after they had sex, of course Maggie is going to react badly to it. Of course she is going to set appropriate boundaries to ensure that she doesn’t get hurt like that again. It’s called self-preservation. It’s called knowing what a healthy relationship is, and proactively taking steps to ensure the preservation of that healthy relationship.

Except people aren’t used to the love interests having a self-preservation instinct. They’re used to seeing the love interest being willing to throw away everything in order to please the main character. They’re not used to the love interest having an actual personality, or interests of their own, or a life outside of the main character. All they know is that Alex is the main character they love, and identify with, and now Maggie has hurt her. They don’t understand or care - because they’re too overidentified and overinvested in Alex - that Alex hurt Maggie too. So they get mad at Maggie.

Personally, I like that Maggie has a spine. I like that she has a character, and a very relatable emotionally guarded one at that. I like that she stood up for herself. I like that she took steps to ensure that her relationship with Alex would be healthy. Loving someone doesn’t always mean forgiving and forgetting their hurtful actions. Sometimes, loving someone is holding them up to a higher standard, and letting them know that you expect better of them, because you know they are a better person than their previous actions have shown. By setting boundaries, Maggie showed me more clearly that she cares about Alex, than if she had unconditionally forgiven her right on the spot.

Your idol is more than abs.
Your idol is more than a pair of ‘thick’ thighs, or a ‘good-looking’ ass.
Your idol does not deserve to be over-sexualized for every flash of skin they happen to show a camera because of a wardrobe malfunction, or a loose shirt that happens to reveal a bit too much as they are dancing.

Your Idol is a person. Respect them as you wish for people to respect yourself.

1. There are so many people in this world, you just need to find the right ones for you
2. In order to get over someone, you have to want to do it. It won’t happen on its own.
3. Love is infinite. You can make and share as much love as you wish in the world. And that is a beautiful thing.
4. You will never stop loving someone. You will just learn how to love them differently, or learn how to love someone else more.
5. Family is not always blood. Family is the people who would do anything for your happiness.
6. People you met a month ago can become closer to you than people you’ve known your whole life. It’s odd, but wonderful.
7. If people truly care about you, they will make sure to show it.
8. The world is a scary place. And it’s a horrible place at times. But the thing to remember is that everyday the sun comes up, and with it, it brings a million opportunities and chances.
9. Don’t let fear get in the way of living your life. Fear can be great motivation.
10. Life isn’t easy, but I can’t help but think that if you live it the way you want to, life will be worth it.
