The third piece in my new “Tokyo at Night” series that I’m currently painting.
This time I used a photo I took while going shopping late at night with Kana. The bright alcohol shop with a lot of plastic crates and a neon sign caught my eye this time.
Also, I always liked the red (and sometimes green) streets and crossroads that you can find everywhere in Japan and wanted to feature it in this series also.
I used some white, opaque paint for the lighting (window lights, streetlight in the middle etc.) and to add some light blue reflections on the wires.

“ I am traveling the world, falling in love with each landscape and capturing birds in its real ecosystem.”
“Diana Beltran Herrera (b. 1987, Colombia) is a designer
and artist that has been working over the past years with ordinary
materials as wire, cardboard, plastic, and paper, the primary medium in
the production of her work. After graduating from her BA degree in
industrial Design at the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University (Bogota,
Colombia) in 2010, Herrera decided to pursue design as an experimental
practice, researching daily about different materials that exist around
us and are present in our everyday lives. For Herrera, there is a
considerable distance in the relationship between human and nature, and
throughout her work, she aims to repair this relation by producing
elements that are constantly removed, altered and forgotten. Her work is
presented as a resistance of time. Her sculptures portray the ideal
state of a thing and also act like a model of representation of a
reality that doesnt suffer any change.”
Thanks to @loquaciousquark being a wizard who can solve all problems instantly (her powers are many and vast), my desktop is up and running! I have 150 Mbps internet on wi-fi! It’s… alarmingly fast!
Unpacking’s been going well, if slowly, and my freezer and overhead light fixture got added to the list of service requests, but everything seems to be working out all right. :) I’ll be grumpy for the next few days, dealing with boxes, but I’m starting to feel vaguely human again.
Largely hand sewn, he is about 35 cm tall to the top of the wings, a bit more if you count his antennae… These and all four wings are poseable and he can even stand on his own. (He is pretty heavy tho so its easier to just let him rest. He needs it anyway.)
it’s a late Late birthday gift to @calament so here he is with his baby evo Hyoimon, wonderful digifake of her design. (And some details about making him under the cut)
Add the tomatoes to a pot along with the diced garlic and water or chicken broth. Allow this to simmer, uncovered, until it is reduced by a third. You could add this to a blender for a really smooth sauce or mash it with a fork for something chunky. Set aside.
Season the pork liberally on both sides with salt and pepper. Feel free to add onion and/ or garlic powder and paprika too but I kept mine simple. Sprinkle the flour on the pork then dip it into the egg and lastly into the Panko. Heat your oil until to about 340° then fry it on both sides until golden brown or for about 3 to 5 minutes each side. This will depend on how thick your pork is. Allow the pork to drain and cool on a wire rack or paper towels for a minute or until you can touch it without burning your fingers. Slice the pork into strips and plate along with a drizzle of the sauce. In the game the pork was served with shredded cabbage but I ate mine with roasted Brussels sprouts. (Fight me cause I love Brussels Sprouts)
-the “stockings” on the fridge
-the tree made of tires
-the “ornaments” (dynamite, frag grenades, the lit bomb that definetly went off seconds after taking this photo)
-junkrat trying to capture santa (the cookies are on his trap)
-the barbed wire bow
-the newspaper wrapping paper
-roadhogs knee pad things are snowmen
-the fact that they put ACTUAL ornaments om the fence instead of on the tree
-they wrapped a cone with barbed wire?? Why???
-is that tire near roadhog supposed to be a wreath or something??
-whered they even get a fridge?
-the very obvious painted nails (take that people who say it’s “radiation poisoning”)
-roadhog’s red pants
Later, when they’re both older and grown, and proper detectives with proper resources, and with some composure and emotional maturity, Jake and Amy will cite the Great Book Hunt of ‘91 as their first case as partners to every new cop to grace their precinct.
(And in both of their wedding vows. And in the scrapbook Jake will make Amy when she finally makes captain. And in their children’s bedtime stories.
Even Charles becomes exasperated by it.)
Their partnership began the morning of the Great Book Hunt, one hot July day, when Nana found Jake sitting in front of the TV for the fourth straight hour.
“Go outside,” she told him.
Which he did, and he spent a full three minutes kicking around a pebble down the street and around a corner before turning around and marching towards the Santiago household.
With eight kids under the age of fifteen and a horde of cousins and friends in the area - not to mention Mr and Mrs Santiago themselves - there was always someone in the yard, or in a window, or, on one occasion, on the roof. Most days, Jake had to only walk up the block before one of the boys called him over.
The Santiago kids were truly a rowdy, welcoming bunch. He met them two months before, when Gina cancelled their plans again and he was hit by a stray spray from a Santiago water gun fight during a lonely walk.
“W-what?” She usually wasn’t one to get shocked so easily but this definitely took her by surprise.
“….it would just be for tonight. I can even sleep here on the kitchen floor if that would make you feel better.” he said, desperate for her to bargain with him. She laughed at him, not trying to conceal her amusement.
“It’s fine. You can stay.” she responded casually.
“…are you sure..?” he asked shyly. She quickly looked up at him to meet his eyes. She smiled widely at him and enthusiastically nodded her head up and down.
“You can ever take the bedroom if you’d like. My sleep schedule is completely flipped around anyways. Nighttime is the only time I can get any work done.” she said nonchalantly.
“I work from home. I type up transcripts for lawyers. I only go in when there’s an emergency.” she answered. He nodded his head in understanding, leaning on the wall beside her.
She finished washing the dishes and dried off her hands, making her way to the closet to get some blankets. He followed her every move like a lost puppy, always on her heels. When he saw that she was going to set up the blankets in her bedroom, he stopped her, Without a word, he pulled the bedding away from her and went to the living room.
“No, really. It’s okay, you can sleep in the bedroom.” she insisted. He spun around, looking down at her. She stumbled backwards, feeling he was a little too close to her while he shook his head from side to side.
“No.” he said firmly. His gaze didn’t falter, making her break eye contact and fidget with her hair. He grinned down at her, realizing his gaze was making her uncomfortable. He turned away from her and started laying the blankets out on the sofa.
“Well, the bathroom’s over there. There’s extra towels in the cabinet and…umm…let me know if there’s anything else.. Like I said, I’ll be up all night so..goodnight.” she said as she clumsily walked away. He heard the bedroom door close and sat down on the sofa, letting out a heavy sigh. It had been a long day. And if it wasn’t for her, he didn’t know what he would’ve done. He shut his eyes, only intending o rest them, but end up dozing off into a deep sleep.
When he woke up, he looked around for the time. He went to the kitchen and found it was already 4:00 am. He had slept for 3 hours. He went to the bathroom to wash up because he had forgotten to do it before he fell asleep. That’s when he heard music playing softly from the bedroom. He walked to the door and pressed his ear to it. It was classical music. He smiled to himself and walked back to the bathroom. He took a shower, got redressed, and dried his hair the best he could. Walking out of the bathroom he realized something; he didn’t even know her name. He turned around on his heel, heading straight towards her room. He knocked on the door gently.
“Yes?” she said behind the door. He opened it and saw she was sitting at her desk. It had a duel monitor with wires and paper everywhere. She reluctantly looked over at him, not wanting to take her eyes away from the screen.
“Sorry, I just realized–” the music stopped suddenly with a click of her mouse.
“I couldn’t hear you.” she said with a smile. He cleared his throat, preparing to begin again.
“Oh, sorry. I just realized I don’t even know your name.” he said. She looked at him blankly, not even realizing it herself. She slightly laughed while standing up and walking over to him.
“I’m Y/N. Nice to meet you, Leo.” she said, outstretching her hand towards him.
He grinned and took her hand into his. He grinned and took her hand into his. Her hands were small and soft while his hands were about twice the size and a little rough in places. Realizing he had been holding her hand for too long, he let go and put it back in his pocket. “How was the shower? Good?” she asked.
“Yes. Thanks… Are you working?” He asked, not wanting to intrude.
“It’s okay. I needed a break anyways.” She went back towards her desk chair and sat down, spinning the chair to face in his direction. He stayed glued to where he was, afraid she might get the wrong idea of him being in her room. Especially at this time of night.
“Do you have a girlfriend?” She asked. He couldn’t get used to how blunt this girl was. She wasn’t scared to say anything.
“W-what? Do I have–? Umm.. no. I don’t.” he sheepishly replied, stumbling over his words.
“Really? Because you’re an idol?”
“Not so much anymore.” he said shaking his head, looking down at the floor.
“Then why? You’re attractive enough.” she said, shamelessly. He was becoming more and more flustered the deeper the conversation got. But strangely, he enjoyed her roundabout compliment. He slowly felt a smile creep onto his face. He looked up at her.
“No particular reason. I want a girlfriend.” he said shrugging his shoulders. She was surprised that he had given her more information than she had asked for. Maybe he was starting to feel comfortable around her.
“Then you should get one. I’m sure you have plenty you can pick from.” she suggested, looking down into her lap.
“What about you?” he asked. She quickly raised her head and looked at him. Was he asking her if she wanted to be his girlfriend? She was thinking too much. She could feel her face suddenly getting hot.
Defensively, she replied, “Me? What about me?? I just said I thought you were attractive, not–” Interrupted by his laughter, she stopped talking. He was so cute, laughing out loud and not being shy. She laughed along with him while enjoying the view of his smile.
“Sorry, I meant do you have a boyfriend?” he clarified, trying to stop his laughing.
“Oh. Well, no. I don’t have a boyfriend. I don’t go out often enough to find one.” she said laughing at herself. “Maybe we should get together.” she thought out loud to herself, mainly joking.
“S-should we?” he asked, not completely opposed to the idea. They both looked at each other. Surprised by their own words. Wondering if the other was serious. Cautiously, he walked into the room towards her and sat down on the bed across from her.
She hadn’t really noticed how tall he was compared to her until he walked over. “It’s not a bad idea.” he said shyly. She smiled at how bashful he became over anything.
“What’s your real name?” she asked. Up this close, she also noticed how his wet hair really made him look alluring without even trying. Unknowingly becoming hypnotized by his gaze,
she cleared her throat,
trying to look away from him but he was looking back at her mysteriously. As if debating with himself whether or not he should tell you his real name.
“Taekwoon.” he said. He brought his gaze down to his feet shyly.
“Taekwoon-ah. Are you usually this shy?” she asked bluntly with a smirk. He became very flustered. First, by how direct she was but mostly by the fact that she was being so casual with him. He was clearly older than her. He brought his hand up, brushing his hair back and scoffing.
“Taekwoon-ah?? Yah… I’m Oppa to you. Why are you speaking so casually?” he said with his voice a little louder than usual. She didn’t even call her older brother Oppa. Why should she call him, a stranger, Oppa? She wasn’t really one to speak so formally to people unless it was in a business setting. She shrugged her shoulders at him, not really caring what he said.
“Shouldn’t I be able to call you what I want since you’re staying on MY sofa?” she rhetorically asked with her arms crossed. He had had enough of her bluntness.
He wanted to see when she would stop being blunt, and when she would start to get flustered. He reached forward and grabbed the arm of the chair, pulling it closer to him. Panicking, she tried to stand up only to be caged in by his arms resting on both of the arm chairs. He leaned closer to her face, examining her reactions. She was definitely more than flustered. But looking at her so closely made him want to kiss her. Her lips looked so plump, as if waiting for him to kiss her. He looked up into her eyes. Still in his trance, he took his hand up to her cheek and gently grazed his thumb across it. “You’re really pretty.” His voice got lower as his eyes slowly made their way back to her lips.
She saw how fixated he was on her lips and said, “Um.. maybe we shouldn’t do this?” Suddenly, he realized what he was doing. He pushed the chair away from him and caught his face in his hands. He didn’t know what had gotten into him. Did he really think she was that pretty that he lost all sense of boundaries? He waited a few seconds then suddenly, he stood up and started walking away as if nothing happened. She stood up and walked in front of him, stopping him from going any further. “Why’d you do that??” she asked in a louder voice than she intended.
“…I’m sorry.” he said, voice back to it’s normal calm self.
“Why’d you act like…like you were…gonna..” For some reason, she was upset. And she didn’t know why.
“I don’t know what I was thinking. Sorry..” he quietly said.
“You can’t just act like you’re going to and then not–” She stopped herself from speaking anymore, realizing she had actually wanted him to kiss her.
“Wait. Are you upset that I didn’t?”
“It’s not that I’m upset. I just– I don’t know..maybe I….am..” she trailed off, avoiding his eye contact. He didn’t need anymore reassurance. He grabbed her chin to look back up at him and slowly leaned in towards her. His face had gotten really close to her and she felt her face flush again as she grabbed his arm that was holding her face. Not to stop him, but just to touch him. He kept leaning in so slowly, she felt like the world had stopped moving.
Finally his lips met hers. His lips were soft yet firm. She wanted to feel more of them. She became impatient as her other hand found its way to the back of his neck and pulled him closer. He parted his lips, allowing her to taste him even more. He brought his free hand up to her lower back and guided her to lie on the bed beside them. He moved his hand from her face to her shoulder and gently pushed her down, hovering on top of her. He never broke the kiss as he let his hands roam freely all over her slim body. Her hands were also touching every part of him that they could, stopping at the hem of his shirt to lift it up off of him. He lifted his arms up and took it off himself, showing off his toned abs and milky, white skin. His broad shoulders and muscles were well defined as she grazed his arms, taking in, what would probably be, the last time she ever saw something so perfect. And that’s exactly what he was; perfect.
He let her take her time exploring his body until she finally looked back up at him. She was beautiful, lying there underneath him. He hadn’t touched another woman’s body in so long. He wanted to do this. But for him, sex wasn’t just a fling. He shut his eyes tightly, knowing he would regret this later on. He let out a heavy sigh and got off of the bed, looking for the shirt he had just thrown.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, confused.
“We shouldn’t do this so easily… don’t you think?” he said. He started walking away, not giving her a chance to answer him. He turned around and saw her sitting on the edge of the bed with furrowed eyebrows. He walked back over to her. “Goodnight.” He softly kissed her then made his way out of the apartment.
He leaned against the closed door behind him, regretting what he just did.
