MY KINGDOM FOR A TV SHOW SET DURING GEORGE AND WINONA AND AMANDA’S ACADEMY YEARS WHERE THEY’RE SUPER BFFS AND GEORGE IS A SWEET SCIENCE NERD BUILT LIKE A BRICK SHITHOUSE AND WINONA IS A LOUD AND ANGRY ENGINEER AND AMANDA CAN SPEAK VULCAN BETTER THAN HALF OF THE LANGUAGE PROFESSORS SO SHE’S PUT IN CHARGE OF LOOKING AFTER THE YOUNG AMBASSADOR SAREK WHO INSTANTLY REGRETS REQUESTING THAT SHE AND HER FRIENDS HELP HIM EXPERIENCE TERRAN CULTURE
there are so few lady characters in aos!star trek that it makes me really really sad when people write winona kirk off as some deadbeat absentee totally 2D character mum when she could be really complex
like maybe a badass engineer who wears her wedding ring on her middle finger because it means she can keep george with her but its less complicated and gives her an excuse to flip the bird at people; who does her best to stay on planet but when your specialism is in warp cores and you have a little boy to support beggars can’t be choosers so she can’t be around the whole time; who maybe isn’t the best mum in the universe but she loves her son with all her soul; who is the one jim got his terrifying intensity and wanderlust and temper from; who, when she’s home, teaches jim crazy maths and takes apart car engines with him and they watch vintage sci-fi together whilst she does her paperwork
winona kirk is a blank canvas with a huge amount of amazing potential and it just breaks my heart when people throw that away okay
no but what if it was winona who jim got his temper and tendency to punch first ask questions later attitude from
like george kirk is this sweet gentle giant who sometimes has to physically carry winona away from arguments so that they don’t turn into fights and this is pretty much the only thing he really puts his foot down on hissing at her WINNY YOU ARE NOT GETTING ARRESTED ON DATE NIGHT AGAIN OKAY COOL IT
Since the Star Trek fandom doesn’t exactly have a great deal of femslash, and often on Ao3 the femslash gets lost among the male/male and male/female works with female/female background pairings, I thought I’d put together a compilation of some of my favorite Star Trek femslash fics I’ve found.
This isn’t a complete list by any means, so if you know of any quality femslash fics I’ve overlooked – particularly if they’re not hosted on Ao3 – don’t hesitate to let me know!
Carol Marcus/Nyota Uhura
Out Here, by yeaka. (17,501 words.) “Uhura discovers a stowaway and somehow winds up using that to both their advantage.” Hot, hot mirrorverse fic. Mmm.
Gold Sky Morning, by boosette. (1,463 words.) “Never believe anyone who tells you it’s going to be a cakewalk, then takes away your lifeline.” Flawlessly perfect Chapel/Gaila.
Not a Standard-Issue Hook-up, by igrockspock. (2,931 words.) “Christine never thought that the easiest thing about her first week in Starfleet would be hooking up with an Orion cadet in the Academy swimming pool.” Ridiculously wonderful and wonderfully hot.
Christine Chapel/Janice Rand
April is Over, by clio_jlh. (27,595 words.) “An AU set among American expats in 1920s Paris. In Janice Rand’s experience, lesbians don’t fall in love, so she puts her passion into her paintings and finds physical comforts where she can. Christine Chapel, a recently divorced socialite and accomplished hostess, hopes to recapture the magic of her first love without its problems. When their best friends become a couple, bringing them much together, the two are forced to confront their assumptions about romance, which leads them to a conclusion neither had anticipated.” Beautiful, and the longest Star Trek f/f fic I’ve seen so far. Features background McKirk, but it’s not the focus.
Girls to Talk To, by clio_jlh. (20,449 words.) “Four young women meet as Radcliffe freshmen in 1959.” Another beautiful and lengthy femslash fic from clio_jlh. Background Spock/Uhura.
Christine Chapel/Nyota Uhura
Hourglass, by tristesses. (2,382 words.) “She’s laced tight and looking good. Tonight, they’re going out on the town.” Corsets and breathplay. Need I say more?
Child’s Play, by tristesses. (2,698 words.) “In which both Gaila and Uhura experiment with each other’s cultures, and Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters are drunk.” Academy era Gaila/Uhura. Drinking and public sex.
The Expenses of Trust, by tristesses. (1,754 words.) “Politics, sex, and violence typically end up in the same bed when played out in the Terran Empire.” Mirrorverse sex. Warning: bloodplay, knifeplay, fearplay. You’ve been warned.
In Foreign Tongues (Been All Over You), by edenfalling. (1,574 words.) “Nyota offered herself as Gaila’s sister when they first met – she greeted Gaila with her name in all openness, the traditional overture to the creation of an in-net – and Gaila has never regretted accepting that gift.” Very hot academy era porn.
Lovely, Dark and Deep, by jane_potter. (13,267 words.) “In a better world, doctors do not need more healing than their patients. Orion women are never mutilated and sold into slavery. They do not grow into sharp, brittle, bitter people with more scars than smiles. This is not that world.” Another beautiful and long Gaila/Uhura fic. I love, love, love this one.
Sunshine on Leith, by Rhi. (4,078 words.) “The turning of a year: what happened to Gaila and Uhura between the fall of Nero and the relaunch of Enterprise.” Flawlessly beautiful. If you only read one Gaila/Uhura fic, read this one.
They Say It’s Your Birthday, by tristesses. (1,731 words.) “Gaila knows exactly what to do to make Uhura’s birthday fantastic. After all, what are friends for?” The obligatory planet-based tentacle porn.
where she’s never gone before, by jessalae. (3,170 words.) “What’s that saying, the eyes are the window to the soul? Eyes aren’t even half as good as fucking, if you actually want to know what someone’s like.” More beautiful academy era Gaila/Uhura.
Fem!James T. Kirk/Fem!Spock
Camera Obscura, by tristesses. (1504 words.) Jamie swears she didn’t take the camera just to take naked pictures of her crew. To prove it, she’ll take some very nice, reasonable pictures of Spock. Absolutely nothing could ever go wrong. Except for a nasty little cultural misunderstanding…“ Kirk and Spock play around with a camera.
Games Like These Should Be For Two, by Bow_Ties. (2,379 words.) ”Jane T. Kirk is just…a little too overconfident in her abilities in poker, and there’s nothing she wants more than to see Spock lose at Strip Poker….Too bad Jane’s the one who ends up losing the worst. To protect Jane’s ego, she ends the game for Uhura and Bones….because who knows, maybe it’s what goes on after the game that’s exciting….“ Space Wives strip poker. What more could you ask for?
A Night in the Cabin, by PepperedPickles. (2,236 words.) ”It’s time for shore leave again and by some miracle of scheduling, Spock and Kirk end up alone in a cabin in the Canadian wilderness for two weeks without McCoy to ease the tension.“ Deliciously hot Space Wives smut.
A Night of Sucky Pool-Playing, by Bow_Ties. (1,465 words.) ”Jane Kirk and Spock are hanging out at a bar playing pool, but Jane wasn’t expecting for an Orion to try and pick her up with cheesy pick-up lines…nor was she expecting a possessive Spock, which she…is not completely adverse to.“ Possessive!Spock is my weakness. Swooooon.
Vanity Mirror, by astudyinperiwinkle. (2,738 words.) ”The ladies (and gentlemen) of the ISS Enterprise traverse the galaxy on their five-year mission of conquering and visit some familiar places.“ Mirrorverse Space Wives. Warning for first person pov, but if that doesn’t bother you, it’s amazing.
Winona Kirk/Nyota Uhura
got my own hell to raise, by mardia. (1668 words.) ”Winona looks back at her, assessing, and then turns back to her drink, saying casually, ‘It’s been a while, so you’ll forgive me for being blunt, Cadet, but are you hitting on me?’“ This isn’t a pairing I’d ever considered before, but this fic totally won me over.
au where winona and amanda were roomies at the academy
amanda muffled her hysterics when winona pressed her fingers into the back of an unfortunate george kirk, hissing in his ear that she had a phaser set to stun so he better fess up as to why barged into their room (he was pranked and incredibly embarrassed. winona asked him out for drinks two weeks later)
winona rolled her eyes as amanda tried to explain the concept of doing things simply for fun to the stuck-up young vulcan ambassador she’d had been put in charge of looking after, who just raised an eyebrow at their “human oddities” (but she made a real effort to be kind when amanda admitted to having a huge crush on him)
