winny cosplay

My Disney Carousel hat. Heavily inspired by lettiebobettie’s Disney Carousel series and Tokyo Disneyland’s Happiness is Here Parade.

After coming home from my overseas trip back in May, I really wanted to do a big Disney art project. As Comic Con was still several months away at the time, I decided to do a cosplay hat. Let me tell you, my summer felt like it took forever, what with me trying to work on this hat when I wasn’t dead tired from my full-time office job as well as trying to finish it in time for NYCC. But as you can see, success! I am very happy I accomplished this. :)

It was the first cosplay she ever did. After needling her mom to sew her the costume and order her a wig, she spent the next evenings sitting up late, forming a wonky necklace out of clay and too much acrylic paint. When her parents nagged her to go to bed, she just stuck her tongue out, until they threatened to not let her go to the con after all. It wasn’t perfect. But with all the compliments and requests of “can I take your picture?”, it was all she ever wanted.

Kessie’s Katara cosplay is finished…. well, apart from the shoes. Honestly I may just remake the whole outfit, because it turned out I’d left most of my single-coloured cottons at my parents’ so I had to work with the scraps I had. And I had no dark blue satin band for the necklace.

But on the other hand; yay BJD cosplay photoshoot. I’ve always wanted to have one tbh, I’ve just been too lazy to actually make a cosplay outfit. I may do some outdoors sometime later.

It’s my first time working with overlays at all in photoshop, so that was a new experience for sure. I do need a lot of practice, but hey, it was super fun adding all that water still :3

Kessie, like me, is a cosplayer, and like me also, a huge avatar-fan. Even more so, as an Inuit, she rarely sees herself represented in characters in mainstream media, but there was Katara. An amazing, well-written, feminist girl who was just like her. Of course she had to cosplay her! (Honestly though, who DOESN’T love Katara??). So far she has the wig, and the “lenses”, so now she just needs the outfit and shoes.

I’ll be making her outfit sometime this week probably. It depends on whether or not I have the time. I’m traveling to Røros with the Uni folk dance group early Friday for the weekend.

I’m not a good hairstylist. Never have been. I’ll probably re-style this a thousand times more. But for now it works. I could have done any of Katara’s other hairstyles rather easily with this wig, and I still can restyle it to them, but I’ve always preferred her braided hairstyle.

(insta: kestrelohara if you want to follow me there too :3 )

A wig and makeup test for the Winnifred Sanderson costume I’m going to wear for a friend’s birthday party later this month. Our lovely birthday girl is going to be Sarah and our other friend is going to be Mary and there is no UNIVERSE in which I wouldn’t be willing to get into a fist fight over getting to be Bette Midler.

These are DEFINITELY not Winnie’s clothes, but I was only commiting to the face and hair for this test. I’ve got to hide my brows a little better still.

Kingdom Bros: Episode 5 is up! Enjoy! 8D
