Upcycling Vintage Wine Bottles as Lamps

My MiL was ahead of her time. About 40 years ago, she made a pair of lamps out of a lamp kit and the bottles of some very very good wine. (The Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1959 was $50 a pop back then, and today its averaging - what?! - $3k a bottle?)

The lamps still work perfectly today!

Quote Decor Wine Bottles

Here’s an idea for old wine (or really any bottle). Paint it with your favorite color of paint. The picture uses matte but gloss may look better. Once the paint is dry, paint a rectangle of chalkboard paint on the front. Let it dry as well.
Wrap tweed or any string you want around the bottom and top of the bottle. You can use any strong glue to keep it on. Apply glue before you roll it on or as you go.
Write your favorite quote or picture! I’d say throw a flower (fake or not) to add a little more.

Try using different alcohol bottles as some have square bodies that allow for easier writing.

Wine Bottle Lamp

This is really similar to a mason jar lamp I posted not very love ago. What you need is a short string of lights that comfortably fills up an empty wine or beer bottle and a drill.
Drill a hole near the bottom of the wine bottle where you want the “back” to be big enough for the light string to fit through. Fill up the bottle with lights, making sure that the plug sticks out. Plug it in and you’re set!
