Half Bound Triangle is a major favorite of mine and almost always included in my classes. A deep chest, hamstring and hip opener but also a leg and core strengthener, this pose has got it all. Expect to explore this pose in both my Thursday classes listed below.

Revolved Head to Knee Pose, aka Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana, is a fantastic full body stretch that also stimulates the abdominal organs and helps improve digestion. Join me tonight @sanghayogashala for 7:30pm Vinyasa to open and lengthen after a long work day. Your body and mind will thank you.

Upward Facing Dog, aka Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, is an amazing chest and shoulder opening pose. It also strengthens the legs, arms and wrists, lengthens the spine and opens the fronts of the hips. It can be fun to play around in the pose with shoulder rolls or letting the hips sink lower to get a longer spinal stretch. See what new openings you can discover in your yoga tonight with me in 7:30pm Vinyasa at Sangha Yoga Shala. Expect lots of sweat and smiles.

Floating Half Bound Half Moon is within your reach. When you make your body more compact (by adding the half bind), flex your extended foot and tighten up your core, what looks like an impossible feat becomes easy, as demonstrated by the yogis in my morning class @sanghayogashala. ✨

Ubhaya Padangusthasana is most commonly practiced in Ashtanga as part of Primary Series. This pose strengthens the core (gotta use your abs to balance) stretches the entire back of the legs, lengthens the spine and can be a major help to those suffering from sciatica as it stretches the piriformis. Expect to find yourself in this pose….and many more in my 8am Wednesday class @sanghayogashala. See you there!

Dolphin Pose, aka Forearm Downdog, is amazing shoulder and chest opener. This pose also opens the hamstrings, strengthens the forearms and relaxes the mind. Walking the feet in towards the arms and holding up one leg in downdog split is great prep for Forearm Stand. We will be exploring this pose and more in my classes today and this weekend. Backbends are extremely beneficial in our modern day lives. Sitting at a desk tends to make one hunch over, tightening the hips and chest and encouraging bad posture. Backbends like Cobra (shown above) counter act the daily hours spent at a desk by opening the chest, shoulders and psoas, lengthening the spine and strengthening the back muscles. As tough as it may be, Plank Pose is unbeatable when it comes to strengthening benefits. Not only does this pose strengthen the arms and wrists, it also seriously tones the abs, back and spine. Kicking out through the heels opens the calves and engages the legs to strengthen the quads. Whenever I have a student who is having trouble mastering their Chaturanga, I recommend holding plank for at least a minute a day to help strengthen and thus achieve their goal.
