Revolved Triangle, aka Parivrtta Trikonasana, is an intense hamstring and lower back stretch, which strengthens the legs and core. I love how open my entire backbody feels after coming into this pose. Conquering headstand is always a big milestone for any yogi. I always tell my students that the tough part of this pose is getting into it, not “being” in it, because you have to use your abs to lift your legs up. Therefore, an amazing core exercise, as well as great headstand prep, is to lower and lift your legs from the initial ball shape to hip height with either bent or straight legs. Doing this will strengthen your entire torso and help you learn to stabilize within the shape while your legs are in motion, making headstand a cinch.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I adore Shoulderstand, aka Sarvangasana. It’s truly a yoga super pose as it opens the chest and shoulders, lengthens the spine, brings fresh blood to the thyroid, helps with circulation and very efficiently moves lymph around the body giving you a mega immune system boost. Rarely do I ever teach a class where I leave this amazing pose out. If the chilling cold is making you feel a bit less than healthy, hold it for 2 to 3 minutes and get your lymph nodes buzzing.

Devotional Warrior, aka Humble Warrior, was initially one of my least favorite poses. Although I had plenty of flexibility when I was a beginner, I didn’t have the strength or very good balance, so I would sometimes tip over in this pose. But, many years later, it’s one of my preferred asanas for the intense chest and hip openers as well as all of the leg strength it has helped me build. Join me tonight at 7pm @sanghayogashala for Vinyasa and Wednesday morning at 7:30am for Core Vinyasa and see what this magical pose can do for you.

Revolved Head to Knee Pose, aka Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana, is a fantastic full body stretch that also stimulates the abdominal organs and helps improve digestion. Join me tonight @sanghayogashala for 7:30pm Vinyasa to open and lengthen after a long work day. Your body and mind will thank you.

Parsvottanasana, aka Intense Side Side Stretch Pose, is an intense hamstring and spine lengthener. Adding the reverse prayer helps to open the chest and shoulders as well as strengthen the core and legs as they need to be engaged to hold the balance. This pose helps to calm the mind as it requires full concentration which forces one into the present moment. Join me both Wednesday and Thursday morning for class at the times listed below to start your day feeling present, open and strong. ✨

Half Bound Triangle is a major favorite of mine and almost always included in my classes. A deep chest, hamstring and hip opener but also a leg and core strengthener, this pose has got it all. Expect to explore this pose in both my Thursday classes listed below.

Dolphin Pose, aka Forearm Downdog, is amazing shoulder and chest opener. This pose also opens the hamstrings, strengthens the forearms and relaxes the mind. Walking the feet in towards the arms and holding up one leg in downdog split is great prep for Forearm Stand. We will be exploring this pose and more in my classes today and this weekend.
