A/N: Hello everyone! Now I know everyone has been patiently waiting for Mason (Part 6), but I have other requests pending, and I find when I write other prompts or stories, it helps me write about other storylines I have going on as well. Creative juices, right?
This was reqested a while ago and I appologize for the wait! I hope it’s similar to your request, and I do believe this will be another multi-part imagine. Let me know what you think!
Characters: Auston Matthews (Feat. Connor Brown, Morgan Rielly, William Nylander, and Zach Hyman)
Dryad made me want more family fic, but YOUR family fic! How's about a little drabble with Scully nursing William? Thanks, you queen. xoxo
They ventured out to the nearest of the three Starbucks in Scully’s neighborhood, sipping iced coffee in the October sunshine. The cafe table wobbled on the pavement, and Mulder stabilized it with a stack of napkins and two Sweet ‘n’ Lows.
William, at five months, was deeply interested in the expanding world on which he could now focus. He lunged at dogs, flung coffee stirrers, and beseeched pigeons to accept fragments of his mother’s scone. He shrieked in dismay when they scattered. Wailing softly, he began gumming his father’s shoulder.
“Time to open the breastaurant,” Mulder said, peeling William from his shirt.
Scully fumbled under her sweater at her nursing bra, then accepted her grouchy son. She cradled him in her arms, and fondly told him that he was a destructive gremlin. William, unbothered, latched on immediately and began making contented whuffling noises.
“What a life,” Mulder said, dabbing at the saliva on his shoulder with a teddy bear print blanket that Scully loathed. It had been a gift, and was primarily used for wiping up effluvia.
Across from them, a pinch-faced woman glared at Scully with frank disapproval. She made clicking sounds and sucked her teeth every few minutes to ensure that her contempt registered.
“Look at you, Scully,” Mulder said with great amusement. “Just sitting here, tits to the wind, flagrantly using them for their intended purpose. Hussy.”
Scully, expressionless behind her sunglasses, offered a moue in reply.
An immense Husky loped by and William, unable to contain himself, lurched forward to greet it. He squealed like a bald tire, and Scully’s nipple contracted in the sudden chill.
This display proved too much for their nemesis. She shoved her chair back and stalked over. “That is absolutely indecent!” she informed Scully, who had already reattached the baby.
Scully slid her sunglasses down her nose to blink more effectively. Then she pushed them back up.
“Excuse me, but that is unacceptable,” the woman continued, as though either of them had expressed interest. “You could at least use a blanket to cover up.”
“A blanket?” Mulder said, feigning confusion.
“Yes! If you must do…that in public, which you really shouldn’t, you could at least cover up so no one’s offended.”
Mulder cocked his head, considering. Then he rose, removing the teddy bear blanket from his shoulder. He dropped it over the woman’s head.
“There,” he said. “Now you won’t see anything offensive.”

I wake in the morning feeling like train wreck. When I
stumble into the bathroom I’m surprised to see that I can see out of both of my
eyes, though one is completely black and purple. The swelling has seemed to go
down quite a bit from when I went to bed and I breathe a sigh of relief. Not
that I have anyone to look good for, but I don’t exactly want to be scared to
look in the mirror every day.
the hot water from my shower wash off the remaining dried blood and I’ll admit,
a few tears from last night. Nathan had been all over me like a mother hen,
insisting that he stay the night in case something happened and when I in turn
asked him what he thought could possibly happen he couldn’t think of a
scenario. So Rian has shooed both him and Jake off before they could even walk
inside the front door. She had been able to convince me to stay at my parent’s
house with her, saying that she wanted to keep an eye on me but I really knew
it was because she didn’t like staying in the house on her own. Our parents

my car keys and head back to my apartment downtown. I keep my hat down low on
my head when I sneak into my favorite coffee shop and no one gives me a second

lower my eyes to the large table beside us do I realize what she meant. Oh God. I pull the hat down even lower
and drop my eyes back to my empty plate. “Rian, switch back with me,” I plead
in a whisper.
Rian responds, not bothering to look down from the T.V again. “I’m good here.”
I swear to God if you don’t switch with me right now-“

mistake. I can feel the eyes of the table beside us.

to watch him, he doesn’t seem to notice until an arm nudges his side and when I
look over at who the arm belongs to, I meet the eyes of another player, Morgan
Rielly. He nods at me before I can look away and when Will looks in my
direction I flush crimson and stare at my glass. Mortified.

regulate my breathing. I can hear the faint conversation of the boys at the
next table and I reach for my phone. My only distraction. I scroll for a moment

unlock it, he reaches back across for my hand. He gently slides my hand across
the table, pressing my thumb to the home button and I let him. Will opens my
contacts and adds his own in before sliding it back across the table to me.

several times and finally let out the breath I didn’t realize I had been
holding. Rian sits back down across from me, pressing her lips together.
what did I miss?” She asks after a moment and I laugh.
After all this time writing music, playing in a band- checking moment after moment off the bucket list- collecting mistakes, making memories, I wondered what it might be like to write about myself if I wasn’t the one standing in my shoes. Who am I from the other side of the mirror?
I tried to change perspective in my approach to writing and center in on all of the different versions of me that other people might have met over the years, through the ups and the downs, in the public eye and behind closed doors. Would I like this person? Do I like this person? Do I even recognize this person anymore?
I realized that there’s a lot more to me than I’m usually ready to acknowledge, both good and bad. In that realization, I noticed a common thread. We are who we are, even when we try our hardest not to be.
It’s a challenge to accept it sometimes. I gave those other sides of me a persona, and a name– then came the stories like a flood. It was a way for me to confront demons without having to sit at the dinner table with them.
That’s the journey on this record: a story of self-realization. Of growing into your own skin through the eyes of someone watching it all unfold on the big screen, wearing a ‘Frankie Says Relax’ t-shirt. Like watching an old familiar movie, but suddenly you’re Marty McFly.
We tried a lot of new things on this album, all within the context of what we love so much about All Time Low– There’s no denying that we were binge watching Stranger Things at the time, while also reflecting on the loss of some of our favorite musicians; Prince, Bowie, George Michael… I think the influence comes through in the best ways. We all felt pulled to exciting and different places as we searched for inspiration, approaching something that’s become so familiar to us from a new direction.
I truly hope everyone listening enjoys this record as much as I do. It’s been an amazing journey.
The album comes out June 2nd and will be available for pre-order on Friday, Feb 24th. We’ll also be posting some pre-order merch bundles, so stay tuned. Pre-order options will be up on alltimelow.com.
