January 19, 2233 - Nyota Uhura is Born

Nyota Uhura was born in the United States of Africa on January 19, 2233. As a child, she had an aptitude for mathematics and running, setting a record for the 100-meter dash. Fluent in both Swahili and English, she would develop an interest in languages at an early age. Uhura would enter Starfleet in 2265, beginning down the command track, but switching to operations and ship’s support services shortly after being assigned to the starship USS Enterprise in 2266. A proficient member of Captain James T. Kirk’s senior staff, she would prove reliable at the helm, navigation, transporter, and main science stations, and in one incident in 2269, command of the ship. All of these were ancillary to her most recognizable duty as Chief of Communications, a post that she served aboard two starships Enterprise under three commanders: James Kirk, Willard Decker, and Spock.

Captain Willard Decker, who was going to command the USS Enterprise on her next 5 year mission after her major refit. He was the son of Commodore Matthew Decker, who had commanded the USS Constellation (TOS episode “The Doomsday Machine”). Will Decker relinquished command to Admiral Kirk during the V’Ger Crisis, and would ultimately be killed by the living machine ….

Will Decker was meant to be the Enterprise’s First Officer in the abandoned series, Star Trek: Phase II

Personally, I think they should have kept Decker around, at least in to Star Trek II, and then maybe have him get killed by Khan.

Okay, maybe some Star Trek stans would know something on this. Star Trek: The Motion Picture was on downstairs and I see this guy come on screen. I was amazed by how much he looked like Chris Pine. I looked it up, and saw that it was the same guy that played the dad in Seventh Heaven. Coincidence or, is Chris Pine going to be playing a minister some time in the future?
