My dear friend, Will Hutnick has had a residency at Governor’s Island this whole summer. The work’s on paper and installation he has been creating is my favorite of his work yet. If you have time to check out his work at Governor’s Island it is up until the end of September.
We have a lot to celebrate in our 2013-2014 season. First, it’s our 40th anniversary, and we’re proud to have served Brooklyn and the greater New York City area for so long. Second, we’re proud to announce that it will be our first season as the new artists-in-residence at the Brooklyn Museum. We’re so excited to join the Brooklyn Museum in its mission to deliver culturally rich experiences to its guests.
Before we get to the celebrations though, we need your help. We have expenses for rehearsal space, music rentals and equipment rentals – things that make our five free concerts per year possible. And every year, we rely on the community to fund 10% of our operating budget.
On May 1, the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra is hosting Art for Music’s Sake, a silent art auction featuring local visual artists and small ensembles from the Orchestra itself.
Tickets for the VIP Hour from 6-7p, featuring exclusive artwork, artist interaction, and a tasting menu prepared by Michael McCabe, Head Chef from Park Slope’s Melt, are $75.
