like, my legit best advice for you guys as a writer:
do it for yourself. in some ways, i’m a hypocrite for saying that because i enjoy the attention i get on occasion and the influxes of requests. and many times, i adhere my self-worth to notes, which was something i stubbornly refused to acknowledge.
whether you’re posting on a public forum for original fiction, or even one sites like tumblr for fan-fiction, be sure to drill into your skull that
your skill as a writer and the number of notes do not necessarily correlate. absolutely do not adhere your self-worth to notes as i have, because it’s at a point where when i drop below an expected amount, it will bring down my entire mood.
that isn’t healthy, folks.
it’s fine to want your work acknowledged and admired; any writer would want that. but, before you post for other people (or at least get in your head in the process of posting for others) that some stories are going to bomb hard.
some stories are going to do great.
some stories will be “meh”.
that’s life. it happens.
but, for your sake as a writer; to grow and expand, try your best to work hard for yourself and to be your own cheerleader.
because some fics will gain you an audience cheering for you, while others you’ll be lucky to have a few. the feeling is unfortunate, and it’s hurtful and can make your confidence plummet
you’re strong enough, tho’. i believe in you!!
