Hawaii judge indefinitely blocks Donald Trump’s travel ban

  • A federal judge in Hawaii indefinitely halted President Donald Trump’s travel ban Wednesday, in yet another win for opponents of the ban, CNN reported.
  • Initially, district court Judge Derrick Watson issued a temporary restraining order on enforcing Trump’s travel ban, using the administration’s own words to determine that the ban was meant to discriminate against Muslims, a violation of the Constitution’s establishment clause.

  • On Wednesday, Watson extended the temporary restraining order into a more permanent preliminary injunction — a move requested by the plaintiffs in the case. Read more. (3/30/2017 7:58 AM)

Fox screened the first trailer and character introductions for Murder on The Orient Express in Cinemacon 2017. Sources review it as 'dark and menacing'.

The trailer for Fox’s remake of the 1974 mystery film is not yet available to the public. It opens with Ridley, Dench and Leslie Odom, Jr. sitting in the cafeteria wagon of the Orient Express. It’s lavish and beautiful and full of elegance, and the trailer soon skips to Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer making eyes at each other in the hallway of the train. However, the train soon comes to a screeching halt as it becomes evident there has been a murder on the train — and of course, everyone claims they are innocent.

Revan: “Hey, can we talk?”
Neptune: “Not the best time, Revan.”
Revan: “Is everything okay? You left without a word when I was in the shower and haven’t answered any of my messages since.”
Neptune: “I…everything’s fine. Look, can we talk after the shoot?”
Revan: “If you won’t disappear.”

The doors to the studio flew open and a tall woman with long black hair walked in, apologizing for being late. She halted her step as she saw Revan with a shocked expression on her face. Neptune turned to see that Revan was mirroring it, frozen in place.

Jackie: “Revan? Is that you?”
Revan: You’re the female model?”
Jackie: *Laughs* That’s right. Damn, you haven’t changed a bit.“

She walked closer to him until they were standing face to face, smiling at each other like old friends. Or maybe something more.

Revan: "I didn’t know.”
Jackie: “Aw, come on. You must’ve missed me a little.”
Revan: *Snorts* Very little.“
Jackie: ”…I’ve certainly missed you.“

She scanned his body, drinking in the sight of him. Then she whispered something to him, making him laugh with delight. He grabbed her shoulder and started to lead them to the other end of the room, clearly wanting some privacy.

Why Neptune’s heart sank a little at him ignoring her like that for her? She wasn’t sure. But maybe she deserved it after how she’d treated him.

On this day in music history: March 30, 1977 - “Commodores”, the fifth album by The Commodores is released. Produced by James Anthony Carmichael and The Commodores, it is recorded at Motown Recording Studios in Hollywood, CA from October 1976 - January 1977. Beginning their rise to fame in 1974 with the single and album “Machine Gun”, The Commodores quickly build on that success over the next two years. By late 1976, the band begin work on their fifth album. All six band members contribute, with one of its centerpieces coming about during an impromptu jam. While recording, an equipment malfunction brings the session to a halt. Waiting for the problem to be fixed, drummer and singer Walter “Clyde” Orange shows the others an idea he has. Bassist Ronald LaPread begins improvising a bass line with the others falling in. When producer James Anthony Carmichael overhears, he tells them that they should take that riff and write a full song around it. After putting it down on tape, Orange comes up with some lyrics and a melody. The song is titled “Brick House” (#2 R&B, #5 Pop), a euphemism for a voluptuous and curvy woman from the more risque “she’s built like a brick sh*t house”. Taking a copy of the tape home, guitarist and trumpet player Willam “Wak” King plays it for his wife Shirley before going to sleep. As he’s sleeping, she writes more lyrics gives them to her husband the next morning. The others are unaware of Shirley King’s contribution, and goes uncredited for many years afterward. Also during the sessions, LaPread’s wife Kathy Faye is ill with cancer and passes away during the recording of the album. Wanting to honor her, Lionel Richie and Ronald write the moving ballad “Zoom”, with its lyrics speaking of going to a place where one’s purpose and full potential in life can be realized. Sung by Richie, it is an immediate stand out, and though it isn’t released as a single in the US, it becomes a huge fan favorite and one of The Commodores most popular songs. The band also dedicate the album in memory of Kathy Faye. Another contribution from Lionel is “Easy” (#1 R&B, #4 Pop), writing about the break up of a relationship set against the back drop of Tuskegee, AL where the band hails from. Released in the Spring of 1977, “Commodores” with the one two punch of the laid back “Easy” and ultra funky “Brick House”, becomes their most successful album, earning a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus for “Easy”. Set against a blue sky with clouds, the album cover is the first to feature The Commodores now famed band logo designed by artist Tom Nikosey. The original vinyl pressing album also comes with an over sized poster of the band (the same photo featured on the back of the sleeve). “Commodores” spends eight weeks (non-consecutive) at number one on the Billboard R&B album chart, peaking at number three on the Top 200.

Trump intervened to halt the transfer of a White House aide who later provided Devin Nunes with classified intelligence

One of the two White House aides who helped provide classified intelligence reports to the House Intelligence Committee chairman, according to a Thursday New York Times report, was told days earlier by National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster that he would be removed from his job on the National Security Council.

But President Donald Trump intervened to keep the aide, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, in place, according to a March 14 Politico report. Cohen-Watnick is the senior director for intelligence at the NSC.

McMaster decided after weeks of pressure from CIA officials who were unsure of the operative to move Cohen-Watnick to another job, according to Politico. Cohen-Watnick appealed the decision to White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and senior adviser Jared Kushner, two men he became close with during the transition.

Bannon and Kushner then presented his case to Trump, who overruled McMaster, Politico reported.

Cohen-Watnick had worked for Michael Flynn, the ousted national security adviser whom McMaster replaced, when Flynn was in charge of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

According to The Times, Cohen-Watnick began reviewing the highly classified reports shortly after Trump made his unfounded claim on Twitter in early March that President Barack Obama had wiretapped Trump Tower.

A week after the Politico story was published, the House Intelligence Committee chairman, Devin Nunes, went on White House grounds to view the intelligence reports that he brought to the attention of the press and the president on March 22.

Nunes said the intelligence he was shown proved that information about members of Trump’s transition team, and possibly the president himself, was “incidentally collected” by the intelligence community on “numerous occasions” during the transition period. The intelligence showed that Trump was “monitored,” he said.

Nunes, who was a member of the transition team, added that he believed the intelligence was legally obtained under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and was not related to the FBI’s investigation into Russian meddling in last year’s presidential election — which, he said, made it fair to share with the president.

Nunes’ committee is also investigating Russia’s involvement in the election, and the chairman did not brief his fellow members on the intelligence reports before holding the press conference and meeting with the president.

Trump said the information Nunes provided him “somewhat” vindicated his claim that he was surveilled by Obama’s administration.

Nunes’ first press conference on the intelligence came two days after FBI Director James Comey testified to the House Intelligence Committee that the bureau was looking into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian officials to affect the outcome of the election.

Several Democrats, and even a Republican legislator, have called on Nunes to recuse himself from the House committee’s investigation. Nunes has repeatedly insisted that the events of the past week were not part of a coordinated effort between himself and the White House.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Thursday did not confirm or deny the Times report.

“We’re not as obsessed with the process as with the substance,” Spicer said during the press briefing.
