In recognition of women’s history month, we are featuring three trailblazing women who were the first in their field at the BLM: Elaine (Mosher) Pearsons, Lynell Schalk, and Caroline Peters.

 I could tell from the hushed voices and tight jaws of the
Captains that the situation was serious. They gathered in a tight
circle and alternated between spitting Copenhagen in the dirt and
squinting at the sky. My instinct told me that we shouldn’t be there,
and the ice crystals forming in my blood agreed. The flame front was
reaching heights of thirty feet and there was much debate over
whether the clearing we were in was adequate to be considered a
safety zone.
