wiglet

Billy Wiglet removed his helmet and wiped his forehead. “Er… how far is this going to go, sarge?”
“All the way, Billy.”
“But we took the oath, sarge, and now we’re disobeying orders and helping rebels. Doesn’t seem right, sarge,” said Wiglet, wretchedly.
“You took an oath to uphold the law and defend the citizens without fear or favor,” said Vimes. “And to protect the innocent. That’s all they put in. Maybe they thought those were the important things. nothing in there about orders, even from me. You’re an officer of the law, not a soldier of the government.”

– the important things | Terry Pratchett, Night Watch

On the Glorious 25th May - after the brief but incident filled existence of the People’s Republic of Treacle Mine Road - seven men gave their lives doing the job they didn’t have to do:

John Keel, Dai Dickens, Ned Coates, Billy Wiglet, Horace Nancyball, Cecil Clapman and (sort of) Reg Shoe

How Do They Rise Up

The Glorious Twenty-Fifth of May.

The 25th of May is quietly celebrated by the survivors of the People’s Revolution, which ended the reign of Lord Winder. They wear a sprig of lilac and gather at the Small Gods Cemetery to honour the Watchmen who fell: Cecil Clapman, Ned Coates, Dai Dickins, John Keel, Horace Nancyball, Billy Wiglet, and (albeit temporarily) Reg Shoe.

In the Round world (following Terry Pratchett’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease), Match It For Pratchett has called on fans to wear lilacs on 25 May in support of Terry.

The slogan of the People’s Revolution is “Truth, Justice, Freedom, Reasonably Priced Love, and a Hard-Boiled Egg!”

John Keel, Billy Wiglet, Horace Nancyball, Dai Dickins, Cecil ‘Snouty’ Clapman, Ned Coates and, technically, Reg Shoe. Probably there were no more than twenty people in the city now who knew all the names, because there were no statues, no monuments, nothing written down anywhere. You had to have been there.

– the names | Terry Pratchett, Night Watch

The occupants of these graves had died for something. In the sunset glow, in the rising of the moon, in the taste of the cigar, in the warmth that comes from sheer exhaustion, Vimes saw it.
History finds a way. The nature of events changed, but the nature of the dead had not. It had been a mean, shameful little fight that ended them, a flyspecked footnote of history, but they hadn’t been mean or shameful men. They hadn’t run, and they could have run with honour. They’d stayed, and he wondered if the path had seemed as clear to them then as it did to him now. They’d stayed not because they wanted to be heroes, but because they chose to think of it as their job, and it was in front of them–
‘I’ll be off, then, sir,’ said Reg, shouldering his shovel. He seemed a long way away. ‘Sir?’
'Yeah, right. Right, Reg. Thank you,’ mumbled Vimes, and in the pink glow of the moment watched the corporal march down the darkening path and out into the city.

Probably there were no more than twenty people in the city now who knew all the names, because there were no statues, no monuments, nothing written down anywhere. You had to have been there.
He felt privileged to have been there twice.

This technically belongs as part of a series I am working on involving Young Sam joining the Watch, but The Trouser Legs of Time converged and we landed in the future instead. So yea…this is probably more miserable than I meant for it to be. I promise you, Sam is happy at the end.

The storm rolled in sometime before dawn, blanketing the city in a second night.

Sam Vimes stepped out of the watch house, eyeing the gathering clouds. He wasn’t able to see it, but he could feel the tinge of octarine in the air which signaled the presence of magic. Live on the streets of Ankh-Morpork long enough and you learned to detect all sorts of things, in the same way the ape knows the smell of the tiger without ever having to descend from his tree.

Night Watch, Terry Pratchett

The stricken watchman was Nancyball. His face was blue-white, his mouth opened and shut soundlessly, and blood pooled around his feet. It dripped through the planks.
“Let’s get the bloody thing out–” Wiglet said, grabbing the hook. Vimes pushed him away, as a couple of arrows hummed overhead.
“That could do more damage. Cal up some lads, take him down really carefully and get him to Lawn.” Vimes snatched up Nancyball’s truncheon and brought it down on the helmet of another struggling climber.
“He’s still breathing, sarge!”
“Right, right,” said Vimes. It was amazing how willing people were to see life in the corpse of a friend.

thor and loki aesthetic things id like to see in thor 3 AKA marvel pls could you:

  • sort out loki’s eyebrows aka pluck them and make them match the wig
  • let thor have clean hair in the movie at least once
  • make thor’s wig longer
  • grunge everything up
  • add more black to thor’s outfit
  • tear it up a bit in battles, show some of his skin like in that one comic
  • or just have some badass revealing armour
  • give loki a ponytail maybe
  • give thor different hairstyles, lots of braids
  • show us more of thor’s wardrobe, some casual stuff
  • have them both wear fur at some point

and on a less superficial note:

  • give thor at least 90% of the screentime

thanks
