Ya know what’s really annoying me about the Supergirl fandom? (other than the fact that I guess I’m technically a part of it despite how awful the show is and I don’t actually like it anyway?)
Little sub-point unrelated to the other points: Everything is about the ships. No matter what the ship is, everything is about the ships. That’s all anyone is talking about. “Ah, yes, this character kicked some tail this episode ALSO DID YOU SEE THAT KISS, DID YOU SEE THAT SIDEWAYS LOOK” yes I saw it the first time, yay, and now I’ve seen it three hundred times too many on repeat, thank you superfans.
okay that’s out of the way
1. The complete and total lack of Winn Schott appreciation.
Take this latest episode as only one example: Literally the only thing I’ve seen is “aw Winn and Lyra are cute” which, I mean
they aaarree, but THAT’S IT???
IS NO ONE GOING TO NOTICE THE FACT THAT WINN IS BRILLIANT. Like, literally a genius? Guys, he pulled up the blueprints and innerworkings of a random spaceship in .2 seconds flat and figured out with barely a glance just exactly what Alex needed to do to give him control of the ship so he could land it????! NOT THAT ALEX EVEN TRIED?? Seriously, she hit the button once and it didn’t work, she didn’t even try to see if there was anything else she could do, despite Winn yelling her name to try to get her focus back on the task at hand.
Also, apparently not even the writers appreciate the genius of their creation, as he underwent being physically attacked and having his girlfriend literally ripped away from him and nobody spent any time on it at all - NO ONE EVEN CHECKED IN ON THE CHARACTER FOR THE ENTIRE EPISODE, LIKE NO OTHER SHOW DOES THIS???
YEAH MON-EL HE NEEDS TO BE APPRECIATED THAT’S WHAT HE NEEDS
OR AT THE VERY LEAST JUST WRITTEN LIKE THE AMAZING CHARACTER HE OBVIOUSLY IS RATHER THAN JUST A PLOT DEVICE TO BE TOSSED AROUND AT WILL AND THEN IGNORED BECAUSE HECK, WHETHER OR NOT KARA SHOULD PUBLISH A BLOG POST (which btw, is an aspect of her character that has been completely ignored for like five episodes what the heck, does she ever even go to work??) IS MORE IMPORTANT AND DRAMATIC THAN A CHARACTER HAVING REAL PROBLEMS, LIKE LITERALLY THE ONLY FOCUS ON THIS WAS WHEN HE YELLED AT ALEX ABOUT JEREMIAH AND YEAH THAT WAS TOTALLY OUT OF LINE BUT. GIVE. THE GUY. A BREAK. IT’S NOT LIKE, GEE, ANYONE IS THERE TO SUPPORT HIM TO HELP HIM THROUGH THIS, HOW COULD YOU NOT EXPECT HIM TO BLOW UP???
If this was any other story, there would have been at least one token scene of one of the main characters comforting him, we would have gotten an overused “we’ll get her back it’s going to be ok” speech, and then either a “I will do whatever it takes” bit (which, I can understand, was used up with Alex and Jeremiah) or something along the lines of “I was just getting to know her/I think I’m falling for her” or SOMETHING. Not that I am particularly a fan of any of these cliche tropes and I always hope for better BUT ANY OTHER SHOW WOULD HAVE INCLUDED ONE IF NOT ALL OF THEM and Supergirl is like *picks Winn up off the floor and dusts him off unsympathetically* “nah man, he be fine”
gah, address your characters, please, cw writers. Restore my faith in you. Not that I had much to begin with.
okay I’m done, I just really wish the fandom AND THE WRITERS would learn to appreciate Certain Things and People more often, rather than worrying about who flippin kissed who that’s all
