why was this so popular

Do you know why Haknyeon is so popular? not to hate just surprise

From what I gather, he’s just really smiley, cheerful, and cute which attracted a lot of kfans before the season even started airing. He had a couple of fancams during the guerrilla meet-the-national-producers event the trainees did before the season started airing that were shared a lot on SNS.

It was very easy for some people to become biased to him when all they had was his personality and visuals to judge him on. This is actually a cognitive bias that every human has- we tend to equate good looks with being a good person. It’s called the physical attractiveness stereotype

Fittingly, the researchers that studied this found that this is most likely to happen in less individualistic cultures AND one pair of researchers even conducted a study with Korean university students. They found that Korean university students were more likely than North American university students to exhibit this bias.

So the phenomenon that is Joo Haknyeon and Park Jihoon and all the other “visual” trainees is very rooted in culture. (The study is here but you need to be part of a university to access it so send me a message if you’re really interested)

Anyway, remember that this all happened BEFORE the season started airing. He already had fans that were ride or die so when the season actually started airing and we saw that he wasn’t ready, those fans were already so in love with him that they disregarded any objection to him. In their eyes, he’s the best, no matter what skills he has or doesn’t have.

It’s interesting to note, though, that his demographic skews young- people in their teens for the most part (based on the demographics on his fancams). This demographic is the most vocal and arguably, the most rabid when it comes to voting and defending him. It also happens that many get a little touchy about him (because, remember, even if it’s misguided, they do love him).

This is actually a very complex happening- but in the end it boils down to: some people like him, so they’re willing to overlook the flaws.

Axl: “Woooahhh! Are you ok?!”

Gia: “That curry was crazy hot! Ouch ouch!”

Axl: “You need to be careful! You’ll turn into a dragon soon!”

Gia: “Thanks! That would be pretty awesome actually. Look, Axl, I have to ask you a question - why are you talking to me?”

Axl: “Uhh…am I not allowed to talk to you?”

Gia: “Your sister hates me. I don’t know why, but she’s pretty mean to me and some of the other girls in her old group…”

Axl: “Yeah…Scarlet said she’s changed. She doesn’t know why she’s become so obsessive about being popular. She’s not much nicer at home, so I wouldn’t take it personally.”

Axl and Gia spend the rest of the evening getting to know each other and by the end of their conversation, he starts to agree with a lot of her comments about Aspyn! What is her problem and why is she so mean to everyone?!

Anon said: I’m a new ARMY so it might just be that I don’t know anything, but why is tae/kook so popular? From what I’ve seen (and as of now, I don’t really have an “ult” ship and I just ship everything), both v/min and ji/kook have A LOT more moments than tae/kook. Tae and JK individually seem to spend more time with Jimin?? Idk tae/kook moments are still cute, but I don’t really understand why they’re so popular in the fandom.

Hi anon! please separate ship names with a ‘/’ or ‘*’ from now on so they don’t go in other ships tags! 😊

And honestly, I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve been an ARMY for 2 years and I still have no idea why people ship tae/kook romantically. Like the friendship, I understand that. But idk how people see tae/kook as anything more than brotherly? Then again, people view ji/kook and v/min as just friendly as well, so I honestly don’t know. It’s just personal preference I guess. Maybe I’m too much of a ji/kook shipper to see what tae/kook shippers do? (might be because a few tae/kook shippers are stuck in 2014 and think that jk hates jimin and that jimin is just an obsessed hyung, at least from what i’ve seen)

Maybe ask a tae/kook stan?? Idk, I would say watch tae/kook videos and you’ll be awakened but you wont.

for real why is junjou romantica still so popular orz

my dude i have NO IDEA

probably because most people’s idea of a mlm relationship is still so fucking toxic that JR is seen as??? decent representation?

literally idk I fucking hate Junjo Romantica and my stupid thirteen year old ass made a FANPAGE FOR IT ON FUCKING FACEBOOK so like now whenever someone lists ‘Junjo Romantica’ in their interests, it pops the fuck up in my email and I am reminded all over of my shame.

(I just tried doing some math because I was like “wait no way was I thirteen. no way someone let a thirteen year old buy that book.” but no. I was definitely thirteen. I was on an overnight middle school band trip to OUR STATE’S CAPITAL and, unwisely, was left completely unsupervised. I walked my stupid queer ass straight into fucking Barnes and Noble and bought myself a Junjo Romantica manga while @aiko-isari laughed at me from the exit. I now live five minutes from that same Barnes and Noble. My shame is eternal.)

Finn : a complexe, well-rounded, loveable black character

Hux : a white guy we saw 3 minutes in the movie, who said 3 lines, so
insignificant I didn’t even remember he was there after seeing the movie

me when i fuck up my whole life and then hope no one notices

can you believe supergirl is so much less popular than superman even though she’s much more interesting as a character, because she remembers krypton and lost her entire world and now she’s getting sidelined on her own show? incredible

are you a dinosaur or dragon person? are you a planets or stars person? are you a shiny or matte person?
